2020 Fundraiser - Island Superlative Voting

The nominations are in! Voting will last for just shy of 3 hours - plenty of time to visit the nominees! Next to each island's name are directions to their warp sign so that you can pay a visit. Some categories only had one nominee, so the vote is for whether you feel they deserve the title.

Islands may continue building right up until the end time, so you may want to wait until it's closer to the end time to vote.

This is the thread for island owners to nominate their island for an Island Superlative. When posting your island, please submit the following information:

-Plot Number (found by typing /rg i on your island) and Warp Sign Block letter
-Plot Owner's username
-Whether you are a group island or an individual
-Island Name (If none is given, it will simply be labeled (Owner)'s Island.
-Category they wished to be judged under. (You may only choose one)
-The available categories to choose from are:

-Prettiest Island
-Most Useful Island
-Spookiest Island

More categories may be added upon popular demand.

This thread will open for posting at roughly 11am EST on Saturday, December 12th, and close at 5pm EST on Sunday, December 13th. Afterward, a public voting thread will open for at least 4 hours. The winners in each category will be announced after the close of the event.

The 2019 Nerd.Nu Fundraiser Approaches, Help Us Pick the Date!

Greetings fellow nerds!

It's time for our annual fundraiser! For the newer users out there, this is a weekend-long event where we close down the other servers and hold a big party. (And if you so choose, you can even donate to help with our server costs for the upcoming year.)

In order to make it the best event it can be, we'd like input from you, the community, on when you can make it. The poll above shows the weekends we're considering; please vote for the dates that work for you (you can choose multiple weekends). The poll will close this Monday, August 19th, shortly after 10PM Eastern Time. [EDIT: Due to constant ties, the poll has been extended an extra day]

I know you're all itching for some details, so here's a little taste before the big post: In honor of our community's 10th anniversary, we're going with a Museum theme! Expect to build, fight, and play your way through the spawns of many of our previous maps. More to come Soon™!

Creative Speed Build Arena Contest

We are pleased to announce the first contest of Revision 34! The current /warp SpeedBuild is going to be retired soon and we need your help building a unique arena to facilitate our bi-weekly Speed Build competitions!

We've got some requirements and guidelines for the arena to work to it's fullest potential, so please read carefully.

GUIDELINES:

You will have a 300x300 plot of building space!
Any theme you want is okay.
If you build SQUARE plots they must have a minimum size of 25x25.
If you build CIRCULAR plots they must have a minimum diameter of 30.
Plots must have FULL vertical clearance (nothing blocking potentially tall builds).
Plots must be at least 7 blocks deep from ground level (for any builds that require digging).
The arena must have a minimum of 18 plots. More is fine.

(If your arena wins and does not meet these guidelines, it may be subject to modifications. If it cannot be modified, the 2nd place arena may be chosen in it's place.)

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

The contest will take place on c.nerd.nu
Enter the contest with /warp SBAContest or /mv tp speedbuild_contest
Find and stand in a plot, then type /nerdplot claim
You can use World Edit in your plot.
You may add other players to your plot with /rg addowner.

DURATION:

Begins: January 26th 2019

Ends: February 23rd 2019

Public voting will be held upon completion of contest.

Mayan Group Build

This Friday at 6pm - 8pm EDT there will be a group build with the theme Mayan taking place on the creative server. Take a look at some Mayan buildings and structures, here are a few examples. For some of the older players, you may want to watch the film Apocalypto for some ideas (awesome movie). The location for the event can be seen here.

All server rules apply. You will have access to world edit. The event officially ends at 8pm EDT, however, if you still want to continue building afterwards that is up to you.

We hope to see you all there, and hopefully we can have a pretty amazing event!

Lobby Contest Voting!

It's finally time to vote on the lobby contest! We're going to do things a little differently this time. I think voting on pictures of builds sucks, so the voting is going to be done in-game. (Thanks to Dumbo52 for rewriting our voting plugin for this.)

Go to Creative and type /warp lobbycontest. There you will see six warp signs that go to the builds that were finished enough to be voted on. Type /vote to see the poll. Go around and take a look at the builds. When you're ready you can vote for your top three choices by doing /vote . If you mess up or change your mind just vote again and it will update your vote.

Example: If your favorite was build 1, second favorite was build 2, and third favorite was build 3, you would do /vote 1 2 3.

Voting will last for one week and will close October 24th at 11:59pm EST.

Zombie Apocalypse 2.0

Welcome to the Zombie Apocalypse 2.0!

This Halloween event is taking place on the Event server at e.nerd.nu, and will last from its launch tonight until November 1st. Quite a few people asked for more time in the Zombie Apocalypse gamemode and here it is! Though unlike the fundraiser, all other nerd servers will remain up during this event.

This version of the apocalypse takes place in the Spawn City of Creative Rev 26. There are lots of great builds to explore and some interesting secrets to find. The map also has natural ore and cave generation so you can mine if you feel like it, though the zombies will definitely follow you down.

We are largely using the balancing from the end of the fundraiser event, though the gun drop rates have been raised slightly. Check the Apocalypse section of the fundraiser wiki page and this balance update post for more info. Drop rates may be changed as the event goes on.

Wither skulls have been hidden around the map. Combine them with soul sand drops from zombies to fight a wither and make a beacon for your base! Some other goodies have been hidden around and more will occasionally be added.

VillagerRescue is back! Find villagers around the map and return them to the inner courtyard in spawn to get prizes.

Spawn is the only thing that is protected, all the other premade buildings are fair game to harvest for materials or turn into a base. We will not be doing protections, though LWC is enabled to keep your stuff safe.

SafeBuckets is disabled! Which means you can place flowing lava and water.

If you think something is broken please make a /modreq and we will look into it.

Finally, a big thanks to Dumbo52 for updating and fixing plugins and getting things running.

Spleef Event Details

Tonight we kick off our first official Spleef event. We'll be doing Spleef on Creative every other Saturday night at 8pm Central (with Speed Build on the other Saturdays). We've talked about how we want to run it and here's what we've decided:

To get to the arena type /warp Spleef

To start we'll have everyone who wants to participate gather underneath the Spleef play area (big snowy floor). In there we'll assign teams. For now, we will not let you pick teams, they'll simply be assigned randomly. You will go to the dressing room for the team you're assigned to and put on your team uniform, then head to the starting gate and wait for the countdown!

We'll have 3 rounds of normal elimination, and the last man standing wins for his team and earns a spot in the Spleef Hall of Fame! Teams will not be reassigned each round.

After the 3 rounds are over, we'll have 1 or 2 rounds of Free For All (every man for himself, no teams).

An actual list of official rules has not been established yet but once we have one I'll edit them into this post.

In the future the rules and the way we play MAY change, like we may start using actual brackets, or start letting you pick teams, or other changes. For now we're experimenting since it's so new.

We hope to see you all there, whether it be to watch or play! Please give us your feedback here in this thread about what you liked/disliked, or any suggestions for how we can run it differently!

Lobby Contest!!

While there's a while to go on our current lobby and we have one more after that, its nice to have a long time to build and not be in a rush. So today starts the new lobby contest! Head on over to c.nerd.nu and type /warp LobbyContest to be taken to the contest world. The plots are 300x300 so there's plenty of space to get creative. You can build by yourself or with as many friends as you want. There are only two real requirements for the lobbies:

There must be four portals (for PvE, Creative, Minigames, and Event)
Follow all global nerd.nu rules

Other than that let your imaginations run wild! The contest starts right now and will run until October 8th at 11:59 pm. Following that we will run a community vote to determine our next set of lobbies. If you have any questions feel free to ask here or contact me.

Nerd.nu presents Zombie Apocalypse 2: Creative Boogaloo. Coming to an Event server near you October 26th - November 1st.

Lots of people asked for another, longer zombie event. So we're going to make that happen. It will run on the event server from October 26th through November 1st. The map is going to be Creative Rev 26's Spawn City with some minor cleanup and editing. The other servers will not be shutting down during this event. More information will be posted at a later date.

August 2017 Community Meeting

Greetings all!

We would like to invite everyone to participate in a Community Meeting. This is your chance to discuss matters involving our servers: how things are going, how things can be improved, and other questions, comments, or concerns you may have about Nerd.Nu in general.

The meeting will be held on Mumble at 6 p.m. on 19 August 2017. Click here to convert to your time zone.

Feel free to post agenda items below or PM a head admin directly to remain anonymous. There's no guarantee we'll get to everything (some of us DO have lives and no one likes 5-hour-long meetings) but we'll do our best to address everyone's concerns.

We can also address feedback from the Community Survey that was submitted before the 16th of August.

It's about that time again! A new Creative revision is around the corner, which means we'll be in need of a brand new Speed Build Arena. The contest winner's arena will be used for our weekly Speed Build contests at /warp speedbuild for all of rev 33. The contest will be ongoing till 1 week before the end of the rev (TBA). That one week will be used for community voting, where you'll all be able to vote on your favorite arena!

A Visitor

A friendly merchant, Ivan Longnose, has recently joined to map and has a variety of goods he will trade for Lost Temple Certificates. If you have a certificate, Ivan can be found on the 3rd floor of spawn, in the East Wing. If you do not yet have a certificate try to find the hidden sign in all 20 temples, place all the items and maps you receive in a chest and modreq that you have found all 20 temples. A Padmin will verify the items and in return you will receive a certificate.

A New Challenge

The National Institution of Turning Wittiness Into Treasure Society has been hard at work setting up a new hunt for the Adventurers guild. The NITWITS strive to stump you with riddles, codes, and hunts to test your wordplay repartee. The hunt will begin on Sunday, July 2nd. New clues will be added periodically, but all starting clues will be kept up so the hunt can be done at your own pace. Each hunt will be in three parts. Part one a riddle - will be posted on a sign located in the Adventurers Guild. Name a piece of paper with the correct answer and you will be given coordinates. Take the item from the riddle to this location where you will earn some loot and find Part two a code - break the code and you will be led to an area of the map. Part three a hunt - explore that area for the NITWITS iconic sculpture to earn your prize!

PvE Special Event - Creeper Hunters

The Creeper Hunters a.k.a. The Padmins will be making an appearance on Saturday, July 1 at 7pm EDT for approximately one hour. They will be ready and willing to help the community search high and low, across the map, for the elusive and rare spawning area of the creeper.

All those interested in learning about the creepers and their spawning grounds should be online at the time and listen carefully to the wise words of . . .

St. Patrick's Day(weekend) on PvE

Come one, come all! Try your luck on PvE this weekend during our St. Patrick's day event!

This weekend [Friday Evening ET 17th - Sunday Morning ET 19th March] we're running a St Patrick's Day themed texture pack on PvE, made by Zaliek.

Leprechauns will be roaming PvE, armed with enchanted shillelaghs and shamrocks. I suggest you armour up and pack a water bucket or some fire-resistance potions; some of the shillelaghs are quite nasty. Death messages are 27% greener and custom mobs with very special loot!

The leprechauns drop gold and alcoholic beverages, and occasionally they drop treasure maps. A looting sword will work in your favour.

If you run to the coordinates on the treasure map, you will find a pot of gold under a fractured rainbow that may contain various valuable gold items.

But you need to be quick, or the pot of gold will disappear before you find it!

2017 Fundraiser Planning!

Hey everyone!

It's about that time of year again where we start planning for the next fundraiser event! We want to ensure that we're running our fundraiser in a way that best fits our community, and for that we need your help!

Please comment below with your thoughts for how you envision the fundraiser. Do you want to keep the weekend-long CTF that we normally run? Try something different? Should we keep one long event or try to break it into shorter events over the weekend? What style of play should we cover (pvp? survival? creative?) etc. Should we keep it as a summertime fundraiser?

Remember, this is your chance to help shape the fundraiser. Comments that derail the conversation or devolve into utter insanity may be removed to keep discussion on track - we want to has as much constructive feedback as possible from everyone please give us your thoughts!

February Community Meeting!

Creative Revision 32 Speed Build Arena Contest

New things are always nice, so with the new rev we'd like to have a new Speed Build Arena (even though the current one is great).

Contest Details:

- The contest will run from right now until 11:59pm EST on January ~~24th~~ 31st. Voting will be on the 25th and 26th.

- The community will vote for their favorites during the final days of the current revision and the winning arena will be revealed in Rev 32!

How to Participate:

- Contest will take place on c.nerd.nu

- Enter the contest with /warp sbacontest

- Find and stand in an empty plot and type /nerdplot claim

- You may use World Edit within your plot.

- You may add other players to your plot with /rg addowner

Building Guidelines:

- Arena plots are 250 x 250

- Your arena must have at LEAST 16 plots. More is fine.

- The arena building plots must be at LEAST 25 x 25. Larger is fine.

- Can be any theme you want.

- All server rules apply, of course.

Christmas Speed Build!

Hello! As you all know, Speed Build takes place on Creative every Saturday night at 9pm EDT. Christmas is coming. So, just like last year, we'll be having TWO weekends of Christmas themed Speed Builds!

WHEN- Saturday, December 17th AND Saturday, December 24th at 9pm EDT (regular time).
WHERE- Creative server at /warp speedbuild.
RULES- Originally, we let the winners of the rounds pick the themes for the next round. Since this is a special event, we'll have the categories for each round pre-planned. Also, there will be 3 10min rounds like usual, and then a 15 minute bonus round (4 rounds total). All other rules will stay the same.
HOW TO ENTER- When you get to the arena, fly to a plot and just stand in it to claim it. When the round is over, you might want to see if someone else who hasn't played wants to join the next round since we're limited in plots. Sharing is caring!.

Hope to see you all there on the 17th and 24th! It'll be lots of fun.
