Hello everyone,

We have been keeping an eye on this post in Server Discussion, and we were hoping that people would bring up specific topics they would like to be discussed in a general meeting. This did not happen, so we have decided to create a google form, similar to the one we had for the survival meeting, where people can submit things they would like to be discussed. You can find the form by clicking here

As of right now, we have not decided on a date for a meeting. If we do, we will make sure to give everyone plenty of notice.

Going to post here to try and generate some discussion, then we could hammer out details

1. Status of the new nerd.nu website, now approaching 2 years overdue. I have a website partially coded up already. If the rumoured PHP one is no further along than mine, can we finish mine and run it? It had an overwhelmingly positive response from everyone who saw it in action.

2. I suggest we open donations year-round

3. I suggest we give players cosmetic perks for donating - a badge on their (new) profile, possibly custom welcome messages, coloured asterisk next to name (like "<*barneygale>")

4. I suggest we give players badges on their profiles detailing what events and competitions they've entered, and special badges for winners and runner-ups.

5. I propose a more formal partnership between developers within the community and the tech admins, and more encouragement from the admins for technically-minded people to contribute their skills and time.

6. The tech admins could run a "changelog blog" where they'd occasionally post about changes going into the servers.

7. In the meeting, I'd like to debate adding dedicated subforums (on the same level as General Discussion) for creative, survival and pve, as we had on the old forums. If we could allow each side a few minutes to lay out their case and then have a straw poll at the end, that would be ideal.

8. In general I'd love for us to talk about how to make progress faster. Do we need specific people to take responsibility for different projects? Currently I feel power-sharing is giving everyone an excuse to do nothing, because it's never solely your responsibility to get X or Y done. I'm not sure I have any particular suggestions for solving this but I'd love to hear anyone else's. I think a lot of servers really benefit from having one person in charge, and we did well under Nat. The same could be applied to individual servers (i.e. have a "lead" c admin, but they needn't take an unfair portion of the work).

9. Would be good to hear what the survival admins have been up to, and what's been decided so far

1.) Would love to hear what the status on this is, it's been to long.

2.) I think this a decent idea. We only run a donation event once a year and if you want to donate you have to go looking for the page. I think something as simple as a donate button somewhere like the homepage would get it more noticeable.

3.) I am against any sort of custom welcome message, colored asterisk, or even an asterisk at a. We pride ourselves on not having a rank system, and while it is only a asterisk you are still seperating the donators from the non-donators with it.

4.) I think subreddit flair or maybe even some sort of forum flair to show that you got first place in a contest is a good idea. Some players have subreddit flair but it seems kind of random what events give you flair.

6.) I like this idea a bit although I wouldn't want them to spend to much time on it as I don't want to take much time away from doing tech stuff.. I've always wondered with so many techs what exactly does each one do and how do they contribute? I know slide has been very busy with CTF and various other things but what about the other techs?

I think "rank" to most people means actual gameplay ability, e.g. guest/player/builder/mayor/etc. That's what it's always meant to me - that the moment you join you have the same abilities as all the players who've been there for years. Purely cosmetic (not gameplay-altering and not too intrusive) wouldn't be a violation of that IMHO.

I agree with all this, especially the year-round donations and asterisk ideas, but the asterisk could be abused by people donating small amounts of money entirely for the asterisk, not the server. Perhaps something like /donorcheck (playername) would be nice to implement instead.

I don't think you can really abuse donations. Maybe a tier or something, people donating smaller amounts will have a less fancy looking thing on their name than someone who donates more if you wanted a solution for that. I'm not keen on this fix too much though since it's really people with essentially more money getting nicer looking things than those who can't donate as much - any size donation helps.

I'll second this.  Money matters are typically not a subject for normal conversation; putting a constant reminder of it next to every chat message or on every login would not be a good thing.  Things like subreddit flairs for in-game achievements or distinctions, however, are something I can support (being one of those lucky few Switch mentioned--I have a pickaxe next to my name).  The only thing those would incentivize is further participation in the community, which we want to encourage openly anyway.

I've already submitted an idea via MrLoud's Google form, but since you brought it up here...

I was thinking that perhaps MCPublic's advertising efforts could be concentrated in some kind of position or committee, someone people would know they could go to with their ideas and who would have the community-invested authority to go ahead and post (subreddits, youtube, twitter, PMC, etc.) without having to wait for HAdmin or whatever go-ahead.  Our current ad system is pretty much spread thinly across the entire admin team, which, as you mentioned, doesn't produce much, since it's more of a side project compared to the usual admin duties.  And we do need to advertise, the server's "heyday" that everyone keeps rose-tinting was a result of people knowing about the server and logging in.  Besides, just try to tell me you can read the word AdAdmin and not smile.  ;)

2) nerd.nu/donate is open year round, and does accept donations at any time.

3) I'm still leaning to no on this, but willing to hear cases for it.

7) I'm willing to take the side of not splitting them. My idea (which can be implemented immediately) is to add some hyperlinks under Server Discussion on the main page that leads to the filtered pages (like this, and this, and this). This solves the problem of people that are interested in seeing information on all the servers not having to check separate sub forums, but those who want to see specific server information can see just what they want.

Modded servers...people wonder where a lot of the players on nerd have been disappearing off too and as it is evident in tons of other servers, it seems they all rush to mod pack servers. It would be cool to have some sort of modded server where the community could expand and retain players who like a different style gameplay to others. Of course, and im sure a staff member could attest to this, we would need mods/admins familiar with modpacks to make sure that things would run smoothly.

Bumping, it's now been 5 weeks since the thread was started and over 3 weeks since the last post, I figure we may as well come to a set date with an agenda or perhaps not have a meeting at all, but I figure we need to decide what's going to actually happen.

Admins, are you still looking into this or was it forgotten?

I have been meaning to get an agenda together. I will try to get one going in the next few days and then we can go from there.

So when was the meeting?

Not sure yet. I have been busy with the new rev and have only gotten a rough agenda together. Once I get that done I will work on setting a time.

I would like to take this chance to ask everyone if there are any new topics that you would like to see discussed in a general meeting?

Yes,

The HAdmin problem.

What's the HAdmin problem?

Quoting from another thread:

"I find this an opportune time to mention the Head Admins. Don't get me wrong here, I have nothing against the Heads, but this has been an issue for a long time and no-one's brought it up.
None of the Heads are active on the servers on a regular basis, and most often they pop in once a week or when the need arises. It's a bit strange to type in /seen (Head Admin) and get the response of (Head Admin) has not been seen before. I hardly think that's keeping up to the standard we had back in the Beta days, where our Admins were considered as players, not (from a new player's perspective) an unknown bunch of people that apparently oversee the servers and are never engaged in discussion outside of the forums/subreddit. Most of the work on nerd.nu is being handed down to the Survival Admins, but there's far less input than I'd expect at a time of need like this. I'd like to see this addressed, because frankly I'm not seeing anything getting done. The Techs do a decent amount of work, the Creative Admins are managing Creative just fine, the PvE Admins are managing the biggest third of nerd.nu, but what about the Heads?
Jump on the servers and run /seen commands for each of the Heads, you'll see what I mean.
I'm not blaming the Heads for any issues they have in real life that're keeping them away from nerd, but that doesn't indicate that we should drop the topic and make do with an inactive Head team. I'd love some answers from them about this or a discussion."

In general I'm referring to their inactivity over the last half a year or so, give or take.

What's the HAdmin problem?

As EeHee said, the Head Admin Problem is the fact that most of them are nowhere to be found.  The fact that this network-wide meeting is being organized by a survival admin instead of a head admin further illustrates that.

This issue is already being addressed and will show results in a short time.

Any news?

Any news on this either?

I put together a agenda and asked if anyone had anything else to add. Agenda is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KJyOWVhnQshGIvh0KYuBhcbRSkk5V6MNRqoNtSiQBSE/pub

I'll talk to Mrloud about getting some times set up.

Edit: In case anyone can't view the google doc, here is the proposed agenda:

Meeting #1

Discussion on new nerd.nun website

  • What is the status of it?
  • How much longer do we have to wait for it?
  • Suggestions for the new site?

Donating

  • Should we add some sort of badges on the forums for donators?
  • Should we add something in game to distinguish donators?
  • How else could we encourage donating?
  • Should we have more donation drives/events?

Forum Badges/Subreddit Flair

  • Should we add some sort of forum award/badge system, and then when players win events they can have a badge/flair added to there account?
  • Should we give players that win events a special subreddit flair?

How can we make the flow of progress faster?

  • Right now it seems staff members do things in there own time and seem to randomly work on things. How can we make it so that we have a better system for completing jobs?
  • We have recently moved moderators to inactive moderators, but what about Head Admins and Tech Admins? Some haven't been seen in forever, why are they still in those positions?

Modded Servers/Mini Games

  • Should we expand our current servers to more then just vanilla minecraft? Such as FTB or minigames?

Meeting #2

  • What is the current status on advertisement?
  • How much donations are being used on advertisement?
  • Who is in charge of making sure that we are getting advertisements out there?

Twitter/Youtube

  • What is the current status on our Twitter and YouTube pages?
  • What can we do to expand them more?

Server Events

  • Why don't we have more specific server events? Such as PvE Arena Night, or Creative Speed Building?
  • What other events could we add?
  • Should we have more CTF events or other similar events?

Expanding to other games

  • A lot of players play other games, should we consider expanding to other games besides minecraft?

LogBlock Changes

  • Why can't players /lb themselves and find out how much progress they have made?

Server Restarts

  • Could we adjust Server Restart messages to be a different color then the regular server messages?
  • Could we expand server restart messages to also tell people to stop trading with villagers/moving things in there inventory in public chat?
  • Could we we also maybe adjust the font size or type of server restart messages to make them more noticeable?
  • Could we finally move to a 6 hour restart schedule? Why are we sill doing every 2 hours if the servers are much more stable now?
