  1. Hey all, The public version of the October Staff Meeting Notes is now available. If you'd like to comment on anything discussed, please feel free to do so below. ~Didy
  2. Hey all, We've been recently discussing changes to the moderator nomination process. We've identified what we consider to be the major goals: The ability to fill gaps in moderation more efficiently. A regular process that is cyclical, but can account for periods of lesser need. More transparency and reliability for players. We've taken into account the following requests from the community meeting: "A more detailed explanation of the process should be publicly available." "Perhaps some server alerts or signs at spawn for 'applyformod'". And the following comments from the community survey (along with all the positives): "The mods are picked via a buddy system." "The staff is largely American and the server favors Americans." "A few more staff [are needed] during the mornings for Europeans." "[improve] the rift between staff and players..." “I was harassed recently by a player when there were no mods/admins on Creative and PvE, so there was nothing I could do other than take it, or leave.” We have also noted each of the indications from the community survey of time-zones that are lacking moderation. With these things in mind, we'd like to suggest this draft process. (see final version here). This process is not too dissimilar to the current process, but we've tried to lay out a plan that will cover each of our goals without becoming too bureaucratic to maintain. If you would like to comment or suggest amendments to this process, we will leave this thread open for one week from today.

  8. Hey all, We've made an amendment to current procedures regarding long-term (perma) bans. In order to get a wider staff viewpoint, we are enacting the following change in process: Appeal is received, and player is notified by head admins to expect a 1 week wait period while information is reviewed. Historical information is gathered by head admins and a post is made in the admin forum requesting feedback. Admins give feedback over a 48 hour period, offering any extra information / links etc. that may have been missed. Post is moved to PMC for comment by all staff (5 days for comment). Head admins use available feedback to make a decision on the appeal and respond to the post accordingly. Essentially this is what we do now, with the addition of the inclusion of all staff in the feedback process. We feel that this would allow us a better range of responses, since there are moderators who may have been around to remember situations and experiences with players appealing longer term/perma bans. Thanks for reading, ~Didy
  9. Yes absolutely - you can add additional people to your plot in the usual way.
  10. Hey all, Since Halloween is just over a month away, the minigames server is launching a themed map making contest! We're looking for your most ghoulish and terrifying maps to play over Halloween weekend - the central theme being "HORROR!". Bear in mind that we might like to keep some of these maps after Halloween in the normal map rotation - so try not to make them too holiday themed if you want them to stick around! Competition winners names and skulls will be placed in a special area of the minigames hub. The details: Access the minigames map building world at /warp mgmaps on the creative server. Plots are 200x200 (you don't need to fill all this space). Competition plots are grey, other plots are red. Red plots can be claimed for minigame map builds unrelated to this competition. Grey competition plots have warp signs set up for easy access from the spawn point. To claim a plot, stand in it and type /nerdplot claim You may build a KOTH or a CTF map: KOTH maps must have two teams, with two spawn points each. The KOTH single claimable point should be represented by a functional vanilla beacon (white). CTF maps must have two teams, with two spawn points each. Each team must have one banner in their team colors that represents their capturable flag. The theme is "horror" and you may interpret this in whichever way you choose, as long as it agrees with general server rules. The closing date for this competition is Sunday 16th October. Good luck and terrified happy building! ~Didy
  11. Thanks for your responses - this survey is now closed. We will provide an overview of feedback shortly.
  12. Reminder to respond to this survey if you haven't done so yet (24 hours left).
  13. Hi all, I'd like to announce the imminent launch of our experimental minigames server! This is something that we will look to keep long term if it proves popular enough, so we'd like your feedback! At launch, you will be able to play instances of CTF (Capture the Flag) and KOTH (King of the Hill), with rotating maps, custom kits and an auto-updating scoreboard in the minigames lobby. Rankings will also be available directly from the nerd.nu website. If all goes well, we'll be adding other gamemodes in the near future. Here are some of the maps that are already available: The server allows for the easy addition of new maps, so you can look out for opportunities to have your own map design added to the rotation! If you're interested in the fine details, this server will be powered by redwall_hp's brand new AthenaGM plugin, and you can find plenty of information on the github page. The Minigames server will launch on Friday 2nd September, at 8pm EDT. You'll be able to access it directly at m.nerd.nu, in game via /minigames or directly via the portal in the lobby. Hope to see you there!
  14. Reminder to respond to this survey if you haven't done so yet (one week left).
  15. Thanks for the info - just to let you know, I've added this to the tech trello, and let Challenger2 know via our slack team.
  16. Hello GrayCountertop, Thank you for taking the time to contact us. Unfortunately after gathering feedback from the admin team, we are not able to unban you at this time. Whilst we recognise that you continue to cause no issues on our forums and subreddit, there are still a number of staff who are, given your history, against allowing you back onto our servers. This, for you, is a situation that only time will resolve. Therefore you are welcome to appeal again, once a similar amount of time has lapsed.
  17. Hey all, Please take 5 minutes to complete the nerd.nu community survey! We'd like to get some detailed responses from players as to how you feel the servers are running, what's going well, what you think needs to improve and what you'd like to see in the future. We'll be running this survey for two weeks from today, after which we will collate the feedback and provide an overview of players' collective thoughts and opinions. Please note, you are not required to provide your username and are free to fill in this survey with complete anonymity. Thank you for taking time to help make our community an even better place, and we look forward to hearing your thoughts and opinions. ~Didy
  18. Alright guys, thanks for the feedback. There's no responses here that seem to object to an experimental run of this server, so we're happy to move forward with this idea. More details will follow.
  19. Last call for feedback - we'll be closing this topic 24 hours from this post.
  20. Hello GrayCountertop, Just to let you know that we have seen this appeal and will respond in due course. Since this is currently a long-term ban, it may take a little longer than usual, as we will need to gather responses from the admin team before reaching a decision. We will get back to you as soon as we are able - thanks for your patience.
  21. Hey all, I was recently reminded that we haven’t had a great deal of discussion with the staff team around the potential of opening an experimental mini-games server on nerd.nu. With redwall’s development proceeding well, we feel it’s important that any concerns or queries, positive or negative can be aired here. We want to make sure there is majority support from the current moderating team for this idea, before thinking about rolling it out for an open test in the near future. Essentially the goal of this server concept would be to provide an easily accessible set of ongoing mini-games of various types, whilst being very low on moderation needs. Players join a small lobby which contains leader boards etc. and can jump through portals to various game types. There is the scope to add any new map very easily, meaning we could begin to engage players in the creation of their own server content (maps would generally be around 100-400 blocks across). This is the kind of server we would expect players to dip in and out of, potentially extended the amount of time current players stay on the nerd servers as a whole, and bringing in newer players who then may transition to the longer term server types. The head team have discussed this at length, but we’d be interested to hear your thoughts, as it’s important to look at things from as many different angles as possible. If there is an overwhelming dislike for this idea then we will go back to the drawing board, but we’re hopeful that this is different enough from P and C that you’d be willing to trial it. If you’re still not clear on details, redwall will be keeping an eye on this post in order to answer any questions you may have. Here’s a short video that’s been put together to give you a bit of a flavour of how it looks at the moment. For those who haven’t visited the test server recently (or at all), you can access the latest incarnation at /server minigames-dev (it’s running on 1.10). If we're going to trial this, we'd like to get the ball rolling fairly soon - so a quick response would be appreciated. Thanks! ~Didy
  22. Hi all, Quick note to say that the CTF space map is now accessible from the lobby should you want to take a tour of it. You have creative fly, and access to warps and the compass to get yourself around. Type /warps to see the available warps, and /warp <name> to go there. Right or left click with the compass to get through walls and obstacles (note that the old CTF warp signage won't work any longer). The custom resource pack is still on, and you'll need to relog to remove it when you leave. Hope you enjoy :) ~Didy
