  1. Please add your vote by the end of Saturday 13th May. If a staff member votes 'no', it is expected that their accompanying comments have been previously made known either within the feedback thread or directly to head admins. If not, we will get in contact with the staff member to get more detailed reasoning. If this vote is successful: We will contact the player to ensure they would like to join staff. If they would: We will contact techs to update player permissions in game, and update forum, slack etc. permissions across our services. We will arrange basic training and inform server admins when new moderators are ready for additional server-specific training. We will move this voting post to public mod forums, and inform the playerbase via the Head Admin changelog. If this vote is unsuccessful, or the player declines, we will inform staff within the post, and move it to the private closed nomination forum.

  4. Hey all, I'd like to encourage you all to use this forum a bit more. We're on the lookout for some more moderators, and we can't find those people without your help! Anyone can nominate a player. Anyone can pull a name from the 'applyformod' list posted regularly here. It just has to be someone you think would make a good moderator - other people may have a different opinion, but they might also agree with you! We don't know, if you don't nominate. Don't be afraid to throw names in the ring. And if someone nominates a player that you don't know that well, please do look out for them in game and try to get an impression of them to share here too. Thanks for your help! ~Didy

  6. Hi PumpkinFoxx, You were banned for extensive grief on our Creative server. It's been more than long enough since your account was banned, and we're happy to unban you at this time. However, since you don't recall having played on our servers before, this could mean your account is compromised. Please ensure you have changed your password to help keep your account safe. You can find the rules and other useful information about our servers here. Good luck!
  7. geb_ has rejoined the moderating team and permissions have been updated accordingly.

  13. Hey guys, We're looking to gather your thoughts and opinions about this year's fundraiser. In particular, your vision of how you think things should be structured, and which sort of event(s) should be run. Some questions to prompt you: Do you still want to run the regular CTF event, or would you like to see something else? Do you think it should be PvP orientated, or different? Throw out some ideas if you have them! Do you want one big event over a weekend, or smaller events? Multiple events running at once? Maybe you prefer a fundraising week? Do you think we should take our main servers down and run a special event, or run events on our main servers? Or some combination? Should the overarching ethos be one of competition between teams, working together toward some goal, or anything else inbetween? What time of year do you think we should run it (given that we are funded through December). Do you prefer summer fundraisers or do you think another time would be better? How do you feel about getting players involved in parts of the building work? We're thinking about how we can do something to allow people to feel involved and invested in the event. We spoke about the fundraiser during the staff meeting, but we want any ideas or suggestions that you have, so please do reply here if you have anything to contribute. Thanks! ~Didy
  14. Hey all, Please take 5 minutes to complete the January nerd.nu community survey! We'd like to get some detailed responses from players as to how you feel the servers are running, what's going well, what you think needs to improve and what you'd like to see in the future. We'll be running this survey for two weeks from today, after which we will collate the feedback and provide an overview of players' collective thoughts and opinions. Please note, you are not required to provide your username and are free to fill in this survey with complete anonymity. Thank you for taking time to help make our community an even better place, and we look forward to hearing your thoughts and opinions. ~Didy
  15. Tharine has been moved to the inactive moderators list, upon request. Perms have been updated accordingly.
  16. Please find below our proposed process for dealing with inactivity within our staff team. This process has undergone an initial discussion period amongst all staff, and is now appearing in the Public Mod Forum for a final review. If there are no requested amendments, we will enact this as it stands, in one week. Proposed Staff Inactivity Process 1. Determine definitively inactive staff members using the current metrics and move them to the inactive list, as we do now. Ensure short-term absence is accounted for by checking the inactivity thread in the Public Mod Forum. 2. Create a follow-up list of staff that don’t appear to be keeping pace with their peers, given the evidence available, including admin staff (who should be active in an admin capacity relevant to their role). 3. Contact these staff members individually to ensure there are no barriers to their activity. 4. Arrange to remove these barriers where possible. For example, a staff member may need training to complete specific types of modreqs. Where barriers are insurmountable (such as long term commitments in real life) arrange to move the staff member to inactive. 5. Re-evaluate the relevant staff members at the next activity window (8 weeks): a. Moderators with little or no perceived change in activity levels: Head admins will create a post in the admin forum asking for viewpoints, and any additional information on the staff member (other admins may know more about work done in other areas, such as dev servers, and including the whole admin team allows a more assured sense of fair-play for moderators). Leave a week for comment, then where there is no comment, or corroborating comments for a staff member, move them to inactive. Staff members with further supporting information from other admins move into an additional period of review. b. Admins with little or no perceived change in activity levels: Head admins will contact the relevant admin team and ask for viewpoints and additional information, then proceed as is appropriate to the situation. Where this is a head admin, it is the duty of other head admins to follow this procedure, and where that is not demonstrably taking place, it is the duty of any admin to instead make an activity post in the admin forums, in line with moderator procedure above. This allows approximately eight weeks to gauge activity (as it is now), then eight weeks for a staff member under review to assess and adapt their situation if they so choose. Thanks for reading, ~Didy

  18. Hello vishnash17, Your banning moderator is away for a short time at the moment, so I'll handle this on his behalf. Thank you for your apology - please take the time to familarize yourself with our rules if you haven't done so already. Since your ban is over a week old, and you've reconsidered your actions, I'll go ahead and unban you now.
  19. Hey new players! Welcome to the nerd.nu servers – you’ve made a great choice and we’re glad you decided to join us! Here’s a quick run-down of what we offer: PvE Server (address: p.nerd.nu) [Guide] This is our “player vs. environment” server. You need only worry about the dangers in the environment, as your fellow players cannot harm you (except in specially designed PvP arenas). It’s a mostly vanilla survival experience, with a few tweaks to gameplay. Head out into the wilderness and start your own homestead, or join one of our player-run towns and cities. Your builds can be protected from grief, and staff are always around to help! Creative Server (address: c.nerd.nu) [Guide] Our creative server is for players who want to create with blocks, without the worry of being exploded by a creeper! Access almost every block available in vanilla creative mode, and build to your heart’s content. There are plots in our spawn city, but the majority of the server is open freebuild land. Flying is enabled, and you can get your builds grief-protected easily. With build protection also comes the option of using WorldEdit – a plugin that adds many helpful commands to your toolbox, such as block replacement, copying patterns or creating spheres. Minigames Server (address: m.nerd.nu) This is our newest server and is still under development. Right now, you can join with friends and play instant games of Capture the Flag or King of the Hill. Try to get to the top of the leaderboard, or simply play for fun! Each game-type automatically rotates through various maps, and all our maps are created by staff and players. Once you’ve chosen a gametype from the minigames hub, join a team by typing /aj (autojoin). Games will automatically start once there is a player on each team. Quick tips to get you started! Read the rules – it really helps! Switch between servers with these commands, from anywhere on nerd.nu: /lobby /pve /creative /minigames Type /list to see all the players online on your server, and which are moderators and admins. Don't be afraid to ask questions in chat - our players are generally very friendly and willing to help out anyone who needs it! If you need help from a staff member, just type /modreq <your question> e.g. /modreq How do I get my house protected? Privately message other players or staff members with /msg <playername> <your message>. For example, /msg Sir_Didymus Hello! You can reply to someone who has messaged you with /r. For example, /r Hello back! Handy Links! Hey all, This situation has arisen due to an admin implementing an alias that they felt would be a bit of fun and amusement for all concerned. Unfortunately it has proved to be more incendiary than expected. I’d like to start by apologising to anyone who has felt personally targeted, as this was not in any way the intention of the admin in question. In addition, I’d like to add that this alias, which was not ever going to be a permanent addition to the servers, will be removed as soon as it can be arranged. In regards to your worry over how future situations are handled; sometimes people misread situations, or make mistakes. I’m not about to promise you that every player and staff member will always be perfect. However, my belief of our current team is that they are, by and large, the best moderation team of any server, anywhere. I believe this is a reflection of our strong community, as we draw our staff members straight from the player-base. Now and again, issues may be raised - we’ll listen, and where it’s viable, we’ll solve it together. This was an action by one person, who did not anticipate this response, and has been rectified. You can take that as indication of how any future situations may be handled. Rokku, I’d like to assure you and anyone else, that you are welcome to contact head or server admins with any concern that you feel is within their purview, and please do feel free to contact me if you feel this particular issue has not been handled correctly. Thanks everyone, ~Didy
  21. Hey all, The public version of the November Staff Meeting Notes is now available. If you'd like to comment on anything discussed, please feel free to do so below. Staff Nomination Information There was one new moderator brought on during this cycle:aMossyLog One nomination was made via applyformod. No nominations were made by staff. One previous nomination was closed. One previous nomination was held over until the next cycle. No nominations were moved to voting. In the next four weeks, it was decided our priority nominations would be: Players from a Creative server background (any time zone). If you know someone who meets or partially meets this criteria, please feel free to nominate them via nerd.nu/applyformod. ~Didy
  22. Thanks to all who have given input during this discussion. Finalised version of the moderator process document can be found here. Moderators will also find it linked alongside other staff information on the forums. This process will begin properly during the next staff meeting on November 19th, but in the meantime any player looking to make a genuine nomination should do so at nerd.nu/applyformod. Nominating players before that date will ensure they are included in the next list of potential candidates.
  23. This topic will be closed in 24 hours. Please feel free to add any further comments before our nomination process is finalised.
  24. It is clearly mentioned in the graphic, but not so clear in the notes below, so I will amend that in the final version. I would suggest an interval of no less than 3 months, but open to interpretation depending on the reason for denial in the initial nomination. For example, if the reason was "a good player, but needs some time to mature" then 3 months would likely be too short a time. If there are no objections to this basic limit, I can include it in the final document. As silver says, there isn't really a way to cover every possible permutation for why someone might be denied. An example might be that someone is banned from our servers during the course of a nomination process where comments had, up until that time, been positive. Final decisions to appoint new moderators do rest with Head Admins (I will try to re-write this section to make it a little clearer for you), and as indicated within the document we will close each denied nomination with our specific reasons for doing so. ~Didy
