  1. I'm sorry you feel this way from the interaction. Your modreq was asking about if your horse was buried with intent underground. I asked you to show me where the horse had been "buried" to determine the block logs. At the location there was only evidence of the hole being dug but no immediate blocks straight above the location where you said the horse had been. Be assured, I was keen on helping you, but you decided early on to tell me to "forget it" for whatever reason when I was still trying to determine what blocks had been placed and where. From your own words you say your horse had been wandering freely and there was two natural cave entrances to said shaft, it's very likely that the horse might have wandered in on their own. You didn't give me the chance to investigate it much before you told me to "fuck off" after you for some reason got the impression that I wasn't there to actually help you.

Entity activation range on PvE is pretty low. The minecraft mob AI doesn't allow much movement once the horse has been activated. It was definitely pushed there.

You didn't give me the chance to investigate it much before you told me to "fuck off" after you for some reason got the impression that I wasn't there to actually help you.

How long does it usually take to investigate these things?

I found my horse with hgps. It took my 20 minutes to dig this thing out. The tunnel when I got to it was sealed and I don't remember where the exact blocks were. A horse TP would have saved my mornings worth of Minecraft time.

The level of density exhibited in my interaction with the mod was unbelievable. After I realized they had no intention of helping I asked them to forget it. They then pestered me with questions and reminding me to fix a 1 block break I did on a road when I was digging out of the pit. I was in the middle of digging my horse out. These were closed with a "No way to tell if malicious" OK thanks for nothing. You could have just ended that entire action with a "nothing I can do" instead of pestering me several times about a 1 block break on the surface while I was annoyed.

To this point, the answer is simple: rules lawyers. If there were no players who attempt to bend rules or constantly cry foul at the slightest hint of subjectivity from mods judging how to handle issues on a case-by-case basis, and if there were no players who attempt to game the system by finding loopholes or dancing on the edge of the rules to troll other players, there would be no need for the rules to be made as rigid as they are. Such players do exist, however, so the rules have to be worded and enforced as strictly as possible as a result.

Treating every case as the worst case scenario causes threads like this. It's one of the reasons that caused survival to die.

  2. Fine.

As you know, end dimension is limited to some kind of island.

In 1.9, the portal to the 2nd end dimension can be demolished and never be put back up again. I don't believe that you can even place the portal block once it has been destroyed.

So you need to make it indestructable!!!

Also the 2nd end dimension is unlimited. You should make it limited. Maybe to the same extent as the nether or so, but it's a 4th world to consider.

Also ender dragon resets will need to be disabled or something until the playerbase can set up a contained ender dragon grinder.

You might need to do some editing to make some dungeons for the end. Also make shulkers non-limited.

    Um....

There is no second end dimension. Upon killing the dragon, two portals are generated, the return portal and the end gateway portal. both are not generally destructible unless a second end dragon is spawned, which is caused by the game mechanics. Both portals aren't player destructible or through explosions.

The end gateways don't teleport you to a secondary end world. They teleport you a 1500 or so blocks way from the main end island where multiple end islands with end cities and end ships are generated. That way, people with existing worlds won't need to start over.

Ender dragon respawning is only a placeholder; a new method for respawning the dragon will replace this one at some point before 1.9 is released.

    Shulkers are indeed limited. :D

    ;D ;D ;D

  3. If you launch with 1.9's release, you can "ride the wave" of interest that comes with a new version.  But that would require launching ASAP when 1.9 comes out, which would require being basically done with the revision by then, which would require starting now.

Definitely the case. That's what the large servers have been doing for the past few years, ever since the hey0 days.

Then we know we're missing that wave. We do chaos then because missing the wave has been known for years. All the big servers wait for spigot so there's a wave that we'd be roughly part of.

That's not really the case though, even that wave was missed too.

  4. Are you really gonna do this? Cus it's looks to me like you're not gonna do this. No one has shown any committed enthusiasm for this new survival, why bother?

Hmm... good point. Enthusiasm should trickle down, and that doesn't really seem to be happening.

  5. 1.9 is certainly worth considering for the gameplayer mechanics and if anyone wants to try out the latest snapshots to get a feel for it or read up on their update notes then the versions and details are listed here. I don't believe that update 1.8 was the issue with our declining survival server, based on the downward trend since September 2014 and with that I feel we can begin putting together some ideas now.

Nobody will stay if there's no feature parity to most of other pvp type servers. That's a fact. and it's the reason for the downward trend.

Most servers nowadays have multiple koth arenas, limits on over powered vanilla enchantments, some sort of base protection, economies, armor kit effect for various tasks. That would be a good starting point.

  6. I'd like to see the "new" survival server focused on PvP. Right now survival is too close to a PvE clone with PvP enabled.

When the servers initially split, they were radically different.

In the past 10 maps, s has essentially become a pve clone with less features. Although pvp is encouraged, it's rarely happens and isn't generally expected.

So for new people joining, they check out both servers, see that nobody is dying on both of them, pve has real builds near spawn, pve has protections, pve has more people on, pve has towns, pve has a rail network, pve has active moderation, and there's a chance of dying on s.

Just by comparing player visible features alone, it's obvious which one is better.

For people that want to pvp, s is a really bad server.

For people that want to pvp occasionally, pve is a much better server than s.

  7. The rules aren't in place arbitrarily, or to deliberately inconvenience people who want to build towns. They are there to protect everyone who plays on our server, whether they're part of a large town or building by themselves in the wilderness.

I don't think mrstone is coming back, man. It's been Three months already. I don't think he cares about his magnum opus of derp build being protected on a server he has decided not to return to 3 months ago. I'm pretty sure he's not coming back his a 81 birch block masterpiece.

The problem I have with "giving the players what they want" is two-fold. One, you and your friends are the only ones who have asked for this, which leads me to think you have your own interests at heart and that any concern for the community is merely a way to get us to agree with you.

Him and his friends have asked for it because it's currently ONLY affecting him and his town mates. That is pretty much the point of the request. He's complaining because of the time that has been spent dealing with this whole thing and that the mods and admins have had very long discussions (according to silver) regarding the 81 block derp shack adjacent to the town. That is pretty much the point of this forum discussion if not 100% of it.

Secondly, giving "the players" what "they" want is not always a good thing when what "they" supposedly want is going to likely erode the experience for other players.

In this case, the experience of other players isn't being erroded because nobody else has been affected by it as of this moment.

Giving players what they want, if it's a reasonable request, is one method of keeping players.

  8. I think this has gotten pretty ridiculous considering the structure in question is pretty much the definition of derp (image attached below). Hint: It's built out of the block you punch to start the game. Total of 81 Birch Wood Planks (About 21 Birch Logs of effort)

It's also pretty ridiculous that in order to reduce drama, the admins have decided to prevent the removal of the derpy structure in order to protect the holy sanctity of structures and the rule of laws on a server which averages this many players. With threats of long bans, too.

I'm pretty sure mrstone isn't coming back and gonna make a big deal out of the removal of his multi block palace. Based on the amount of effort they put, I don't think he's the type that makes mountains - In this case, Mount Everest -  out of molehills.

The "community" has become a parody of itself.

So how do we move past this and make this place an environment that is more receptive for keeping players?

The community has been shrinking for a long time and stuff like this does not help, at all.

Stuff like this is the reason /r/minecraft mods do not like this network and make sure to not recommend when mentioned.

  9. There is nothing illegal about recording people in a publicly opened channel on mumble on a private mumble server by the way. It is not a phone call.

Also even if you were to do it someone would have to 1) press charges and 2) the case would have to be accepted and then acted upon by the police. That won't happen.

Anyway lmk the next time you are going to have a chat

+1. Hopefully the next fireside whatever chat can address the extreme shrinkage of the community considering the game is more popular than ever.

A time to reflect and re-adjust based on our position.

  10. I have a crazy conspiracy theory. There is a person who has subtle influence over members of the admin team, who plots and nudges people in the direction of his/her preference. This person likes playing cs:go more than garry's mod or tf2. Like, a few hundred hours-worth more.

This person may or may not have influenced other *unusual* decisions in the past from members of the admin team.

Like I said, crazy. Probably not worth paying attention to.

    Inconceivable!

  11. I love the idea of a role play server, people act out their roles in their own little towns, some form of NPCs maybe?

Isn't that already pve, minus the NPC's?

It would actually be a great idea to add quest NPC's to the PVE Server.

PVP could come from warring factions in this RP world. Probably no grief (unless a system to breach castle walls was made)

That's what s currently aims to be.

I think it would be very interesting to have players mold their own world.

    That already happens.

... but I'm sure with the combined ideas of the community it could turn out to be a unique server that sets us apart from any other community.

Depends. If you take ideas from people who have no intention to play, that may lead to a high signal-to-noise ratio, which will lead to a thread like this being created in the future.

  12.

Texas, thank you for your feedback. At the moment I'm in the process of gathering all constructive criticism and ideas from the past few months to-date that the survival community have put forward. I'm glad to see you all have such passion and still encourage you to contribute ideas.

In regards to your plea and concerns about the short notice change of launch I want to be clear that delaying a launch just two to three days away from the announced date was necessary as one of the key components in bringing this revision to life, LadyRavenOwl would have been effectively unable to work with our tech admins for the launch period. Both Rtr69 and MrGauthier34 will be stepping down / returning to a moderator role as per their request once the new revision has launched.

I don't mean to detract from the launch news by hijacking this topic with my post but that last line of my second paragraph is one of the reasons I'm very interested in gathering feedback from the survival community, so much so that I'll be around on the revision somewhere near spawn (building and surviving, not standing around like a lemon).

Yeah, it's the same criticism from the past few years to date to be honest.

Also from what I've heard on the survival skype chat, this is as far from vanilla the s admins can go due to poor head/tech communication. Certain former/current s admins complained about head/tech admins taking weeks-months to reply to any questions and help. It explains why the majority of the changes done in rev 29 have been existing features of the Kitchen Sink plugin for a long time. Good on LadyRavenOwl for trying her best with these constraints. Hopefully s can get new tech admins that are willing to allow the s community to actually grow or at the very least stop hemorrhaging players (for example: c45y got a lot of rev 29 functionality work done the moment he was given access to the server )

  13. How small will the map be?

Will increasing the grind through nerfing beds, pearls, the nether and XP have an improved payoff for investing more time? Expand on how this form of the economy plus minor tweaks like notice boards and buffer zones  will incentivise PVP or confront the elephant in the room which is ironically enough our vanishingly tiny playerbase.

It's good to get an update, but these sound more like the kind of things I'd want to see on a PVE rev than a survival one.

It'll increase pvp in a way we've never seen or thought of before. It'll have more players interested in it than factions and every other pvp game mode combined!

  14. To sum it up a little better, we plan on having a set cooldown for money to be received when killing someone. For example if player 1 kills player 2, then player 1 won't receive money for armor killing player 2 again for a set amount of time. The rule is in place however, because we know players have alts, and we know some have many alts. Because of this, we don't want players lining their alts up in a row and killing them to abuse the system. This is why the rule is required, even if we never have to use it. We would rather let people know this is against the rules early rather than have players abuse it and have to fix this later because we know this WOULD be abused.

The reason the system itself is in place is because we want PvP to feel more rewarding. This is one of the best systems we discussed where players can actually feel rewarded for winning fights, and can do whatever you please with your winnings instead of getting a broken suit of armor and a few empty bottles.

Why allow for the system to be obviously exploitable in the first place?
