  1. Making a forum post as per request. Situation: It was brought up on Mumble when Wondrland was asking if autoclickers were allowed on P(presumably to exploit the new fishing mechanics introduced in 1.7 based on previous discussion with him), and was promptly shot down by tompreuss under the argument of "No use of hacked clients to change or modify gameplay that gives an unfair advantage." However, I feel this argument is ultimately unjust for 2 primary reasons. The first being that it does not in fact change or modify gameplay, only sends a right/left click signal at a constant rate which could be achieved by a normal player without the client. If the rate of clicking were to reach a level higher than what a normal player could achieve then I feel it would be against the rules, however the rate would be so high that the effects would not be useful in survival mode and therefore not give a noticeable advantage. The second being that if such a modification is not allowed, then why the use of say rei's minimap, which allow players information that gives them an advantage over other players by showing an overhead map. There is also a level of automation on Rei's in the deathpoint feature, in which it automatically saves coordinates of where you die at a speed no player could. Moreso, why is the client used most famously by the afk account brews_wane which relogs at grinders upon restarts which the PAdmins are well aware of, not banned for doing the automated task of relogging? Clearly they seem to lie within acceptable bounds, but not autoclickers, which in my opinion conform to the rules equally if not more than the two above examples.
  2. Hello everyone, here's what I have for the new alt banning policy. Alt Account Banning Policy - A minimum of 2 weeks will be added to the original ban length for every account used to evade a ban on any of our servers. Any accounts used to evade a ban will be banned for the same amount of time as the original banned account. Admins reserve the right to add additional time depending on the circumstances, and only appealed bans will be lifted. We decided to give everyone a week to comment and make any changes to the policy before implementing it. However, since there is a holiday this week I decided to not count that day as part of the week, so please comment below if you have anything you would like to add or change by December 1st.
  3. This is more of an informative post rather than a discussion, in response to one of the questions MrLoud posted on the general meetings for how to speed up the process of staff duties. Basically what the PAdmins have recently started trying out is logging every individual encounter we have on the servers that asks questions of policy or server management, and sort them by date. This all goes onto a google docs that we can all access. For example, if a player brings up concerns over how land claims are handled, we log the general gist of the discussion between that player and the points brought up, then we all comment on how we feel it should be handled below the log entry. Our comments are all color coded per individual to allow easy distinction. Then, we have a second voting speadsheet where we list every topic we feel needs to be voted on. Each admin colors the cell background under their name for a particular topic, usually either green or red(yes/no) to represent a vote. Additional info is added via notes appended to that cell to further elaborate. This allows us to quickly gain understanding on how everyone feels on a topic in order to reach consensus and decide what to do. We have a cell on the end of each row for the final decision taken and a link to a public announcement of that decision, if any. We further combine this with discussion ingame and on mumble to help iron out ideas. Ultimately, this both speeds up the process of deciding policy changes as well as keeping everything organized and logged for future reference. We've already been using it to great effect, and I thought it'd be a good idea to share this process with the other admins should they choose to use something similar.
  4. Hi and welcome to my AMA. If any of you were wondering, I've been around since like... 2011. Started off on the original servers, migrated to PvE for a few revisions, erecting many prosperous cities, and then on to survival. Now, I usually switch around on servers, trying to be active on all three. Outside of Minecraft, I am a college student who enjoy sports... specifically basketball, baseball, football, volleyball, and soccer. My favourite TV show is Star Trek: The Original Series, and if I had to choose a favourite school subject, it'd be geography. Feel free to ask me any questions! Thanks!
  5. Hello everyone, We need to have a donation drive sometime soon, so I figured I would start a thread about planning it. The goal of the drive will be to provide funding for the servers for another year, and according to Deaygo we would need $4500 to do that. Here are a few things that we need to discuss before moving forward. What type of event should we have? When should we have the drive? How can we get the word out about the drive? I would like to ask everyone to comment asap so we can get this thing moving.

    PVE Trade Signs

In rev 12 and 13 we had doppelganger trade signs, where you could trade in padmin kills for certain items. Padmins, could we please bring these back, for resources such as sponge? I know this was created to introduce 1.7 items that weren't in 1.6, but sponge is a highly sought after commodity, especially in a world that has a large chunk of water. I can't think of any other blocks that could be included in these trade signs, but maybe there are other items that people want that are very rare. EDIT: Horse armour is another thing I'd like to see.
  7. Hey all! We've posted on Reddit but not the forum, so let this be your formal invitation to the new far west city of Zephyrus! I’m one of the mayors, along with The_Pagemaster. We’re still small, but have all the resources you could need before an adventure on the western ocean. There are public chests in all three of our farms with wood and food for anyone who needs it. We’re connected by Nether road and rail, the west road, and soon CARBON. We’re actively looking for new members, or people just willing to help us with odd jobs. If you’re interested in either message me here, or join clanchat “fwp”. Here’s a few screenshots of what we’ve got so far: From the live map. The outer ring and random dome are part of phase 2 and are not complete yet. There will be 7 more domes when finished, maybe more. A shot from underwater showing a few of the domes. Enchanting room is center, animal farm to the left, stairs to the right. Our main dome and portal. Our animal farm. Horses are free, just contact The_Pagemaster Our tree farm. Big enough to grow all type of trees to a decient height.
  8. Hello everyone, We will be using marting11's glasses frame, "nu variant," for the new Nerd.nu Gaming Community logo! We will be changing the logo on the subreddit, wiki, forums, etc. over the next few days, so keep an eye out for that. Thanks to everyone who participated in the contest
  9. So, me, and some very helpful volunteers have put significant effort into the wither skeleton farm. I build the farm and for aesthetic purposes cleared everything up to 64 blocks away and rebuilt the lava floor of the nether. This alone too 3 weeks of work. Then to top it off we also added at a minimum 30,000 slabs (probably closer to 60k due to caves, etc) to the surrounding area to ensure spawn rates. Now, all of this is part of the build. Without this, the build would not 1) have the same visual appeal and 2) not function as well. So both are most certainly essential to its use. However, when I tried to get the area protected, I was denied. Now I understand this is a large area, but this area most certainly has more blocks placed than probably any area in the overworld. Also probably more blocks removed. We are talking literal weeks of man hours to get this built. Now I doubt anyone would complain about the work that was done for the farm. It increases spawn rates and makes everyone happier. I also guarantee you that all those who put in hours upon hours of work would want to make sure that said work is protected. Those factors alone should be enough to get the area fully protected. But I will also mention something else, if some individual was to build something over the custom lava lake surrounding the farm, I would obviously modreq that as grief as it is breaking both the visual design of the farm as well as the functional workings of the farm and I doubt any mod in good conscious would deny such a request. And if that is so, that any build in the area would be considered grief of the farm, then it only follows that the area should be able to be protected in the first place. I ask this not because I want to limit the areas that others can build it, but only to protect the hard work that many individuals have put the time and effort into. Sincerely, b00ds
  10. In the 1.8 info thread on reddit it was said villagers would farm. None of the villagers in solace farm, none will accept thrown crops. Are the villagers nerfed/bugged/something? I submitted a modreq but haven't heard anything such as "it's a bug" or "we're looking into it". Would like some info as the farm mechanic is integral to breeding villagers.
  11. For context, I live in Metal Mountains at -1000,-1000. Not very far from us is a plot. A very large one. One day I'm out boating and when not looking I slam into a 1 block wide road going through the water at sea level. Which should be bannable, seriously. I decide, not having any more wood on me, to follow it and see where it goes. Every so often, I see those signs. They all claim a plot area of 550x550 (what the actual fuck) and it's this massive square around an area. It is for a giant funnel in the sky made of stone. Going from sea level all the way to something past y:220. Then I open my map and see what's really going on - his land claim is taking up more room than our entire city will in the revision's lifetime. The other 40 regulars and 100+ semi-active players only have a 5000x5000 map to work with. But here's the issue - he's not in the way. No one is building near him nor plans to because it's mostly in the ocean. Chunk distance is so low that no one will see it unless they approach. I will politely ask him, if he even knows English (has anyone seen him talk?), if he can raise his boundaries to y:65. If he won't, I'll let a mod do it. It's bullshit that you have to interrupt your travel and carry a crafting table just to pass by this soon-to-be behemoth. What really happens with these? Can we actually stop a project in progress just because it's too big for what it accomplishes? PVE isn't going to run out of room. What do you think?
  12. I had an idea that we could just allow TNT to blow up in a region. Like you would make a region and then allow TNT to be blown up in that area. This would be a nice system because it would prevent abuse of TNT, as mods would be able to discern whether or not it's a safe location for the TNT to go off. Leave comments/suggestions below
  13. Only way I know is to break through the nether roof? Do we have a plan for how to deal with that?
  14. It's that time of the Rev again for the Whiteoak End of Rev Event where we get absolutely destroyed! This Thursday at 6PM PST (8PM EST - Time Converter) we will be hosting our Nightoak Event! For those that don't know, Nightoak is an Event we at Whiteoak host at then end of every PvE Rev where we fight endless swarms of Doppelgangers and Withers. For the Event we so far have over 400 Doppelgangers and are gladly taking donations of diamonds so that we can get even more dopples! If you would like to donate please contact SwitchViewz, Ghrey303, or SirLyle. More information about how to get there and about the arena can be found inside this Imgur Album. I hope to see everyone there and hope that your all ready to get absolutely and utterly destroyed!
  15. Spawn is mostly complete, but we figured it would be nice to let some mods help out. Since most of us are slightly mediocre with interiors, we figured some help was required, so now is your opportunity to add your mark to spawn! The theme is an abandoned coastal pirate village. Mainly what needs to be done; Buildings filled and furnished according to their purpose (Which will be marked at their entrance.) Ruinifying spawn. Not too much, but it needs a "worn down" feel Spawn is pretty dark, so maybe some lighting solutions to fit the theme The boat is entirely off limits for editing, but you can look at it. Spawn is blocked off by a close world border, so no exploring. Remember this isn't meant to give you a leg up on the competition! If you would like to help out, post here so I can add you to the whitelist. The server is on 1.8, so you'll need the corresponding client in order to connect. Using [redacted], one of us should be able to /mode you once you join. And remember, anything here, or at spawn is strictly confidential, and shouldn't be shared with anyone else. Added peoples: Switchviewz, Socarch26, StatelyFandango, Wondrland, Silversunet01, pez252, nealsmith
  16. So as you can see below I had to scrap my good iron golem farm due to how hoppers calculate on Spigot. That being said I am working on a 27 village Iron Farm and currently have the middle "tower" completed and is operational as you can see in the picture above. However, I am doing this 95% on my own and am in desperate need of materials... Mainly Glass, Stone Brick, Dirt, and Wood. If you would like to donate I would greatly appreciate it. I have setup donation Chests at the "entrance" to Darklight at -1275 -1500. The best way to get there is using the Ambrosia Nether Portal and then by heading west on the road until you get to Darklight. Thanks to all of those that help out in advance. Currently the Grinder is not setup for public access but will be once I get a few of the other towers done. Sincerely, Blockbuster I have tested multiple different 1.8 Iron Grinder options against the current server constraints and have determined which Iron Grinder I would like to build next revision for my town and the server. It outputs around 1200-1400 iron/hr. The build itself isn't actually that big, but it is a little resource intensive. For those of you that are interested in helping I will be setting up donation chests at COORDS TBD LATER with signs stating how much of each item is still needed. The basic "barebone" item list is listed below meaning this is exactly what i need to make it operational, but not pleasing to the eye: Cobblestone - 4802 ~ 76 Stacks Redstone - 3176 ~ 50 Stacks Wood Logs - 2695 ~ 43 Stacks Iron - 908 ~ 15 Stacks Nether Quartz - 776 ~ 13 Stacks Sand - 591 ~ 10 Stacks Slimeball - 142 ~ 3 Stacks Glowstone - 61 ~ 1 Stack String - 18 ~ 1 Stack The nether quartz is definitely going to be the slowest thing to obtain even though it is plumped and in the overworld. Thank you in advance to anyone that donates and I hope everyone has fun on this upcoming rev LIST OF SUPPORTERS BlockbusterUPDATE #3 - 2/18 1:26 PM EST So I have successfully created the build on single player and also on a local spigot 1.8 server, still am unsure if it will work on PvE with there specific settings though. UPDATE #2 - 2/13 10:42 AM EST So i have been reading through the comments in regard to the difficulties people have been having with replicating this build. A majority of the issues are caused by stupidity, but some have to do with server settings and spigot. I am going to try and talk to a tech admin and see if he can run the world save i have against the pve server build that way I can make sure it will work on the server otherwise i am going to have to scrap the project and look into doing a different one. UPDATE #1 - 2/13 10:39 AM EST If you plan on helping donate materials let me know so i can add you to a list on here and make sure to add your name to the lobby of the build.

    PvE Map Poll

Greetings nerd.nu! As you may have noticed now, we are well past three months into the PvE rev, and it’s about time to look forward to the next one - somewhat.* Specifically, we are looking for feedback on a good PvE map - what biomes there should be, what features should be on it, how big it should be, questions like that. So with that being said, here’s a poll with some of these questions and more - and if there’s anything you’d like to mention that’s not in the poll questions, comment down below. Our goal is to build an interesting and enjoyable map, and the results of this poll will definitely influence how the map is created. *Padmins retain official word regarding the end of the rev and such announcements will be posted visibly; any comments to the contrary are pure speculation and should be taken with grains of salt.
  18. So with the rev nearing an end(SoonTM), and with several recent threads bringing up the concept of player retention on PvE, I figured I'd make a post. Please keep in mind that this does not reflect the official PAdmins' opinions as a whole, though we'll certainly pay attention to any ideas/thoughts presented. I also recognize some of these ideas could potentially be controversial, so please keep an open mind. So with that out of the way, is long term player retention over the rev something that should be looked into, and how are ways that we could possibly go about that? Or are people fine with the general status quo of huge spike at the start that then balances out to 40-60ish 'regulars'? It's no surprise that many players join for the initial rush of land, which then teeters off once infrastructure is quickly built up due to minecraft's horribly simple progression system. Would using artificial means(plugins/map design) to slow down this progression(such as is done on servers like CivCraft for example) be something that would encourage people to stick around more? This begs the question of how vanilla we wish to be. There has also been some thought towards random custom dungeons being spread out to give players incentive to explore, as well as providing challenge beyond minecraft's simple concept of PvE. Another concept brought up here and here was that players don't have things to do as the rev goes on. Would players be fine with for example admin endorsed community projects that give players something to do, or other means the PAdmins could provide more longterm stimulus other than an event like a 5k/holiday event/ect? Or would that take away from the spirit of the server in that everything outside of spawn is 100% player run? Lastly, there's the hot topic of rev ends, and whether they should be longer/shorter, or given specific dates of ending. That also ties into player retention as revs and maps can become stale for many, which is something to look out for. However on the other side of the coin making revs too short prevents the massive infrastructure and town buildup that makes our server so great. This has been discussed many times in the past, and I'm not sure if there really is a right or wrong answer, but it can certainly bear discussing.
  19. Hey, I'm Pyr0, an old player from Rev 4/5. I came back looking for a user by the name of "TH" who played at the same time, though I haven't been able to find him so far (partly because I don't think 2-letter names are allowed in the game anymore). So, here I am. I frequently run into game derps, do some redstone work, ect, so welcome to the topic! For today's session, have a baby zombie. These two are trapped in an epic battle with a chest and a fencepost. But really, this is...um........hi? itsstaringatmemakeitstop Next up, a happy scene of me standing on the Oasis bridge! The uh...side of the bridge to be exact. Nothing to see here. Last but not least, a cart. This happens a lot. Stay tuned for the next edition!
  20. In light of the recent events, mostly regarding the position TheAcademician has decided to take. It got me thinking, especially since people have been longing for a change, why don't we implement Server Tech Admins? It's clear that players would like their server admins to spend a little more time in-game, and being a more solid part of the community, but when it comes down to it, things need to get done. While the server admins are busy resolving player disputes and organising events, talking with players, etc, the server techs can be busy working on new plugins or fixing bugs, whatever it is techs do when it comes to doing things for a specific server. Doing so would make it easier for each server to run on it's own, because it would let those in charge focus on what needs to be done that way the Nerd tech admins can work on bigger things that apply to all the servers, for example, Nerd techs can work on optimising the newest version of KitchenSink, meanwhile the Creative techs work on the latest version of WorldEdit. One of the things that we recently discussed was the desire for more active admins, and I believe that this would definitely help that problem. The players that do dedicate a lot of their time to moderating and being a part of the server can be the server admins meanwhile working in tandem with the ones in the background that want to help out by giving us more fun things to work with. Of course doing so would be a big undertaking and not one that would happen overnight, but I am certain that implementing it would help nerd take a step in the right direction. -Magnyus
  21. Tomorrow, December 16th, Event will be opening for the Winter Holiday maze! Enjoy snow filled adventures with murderous snowballs and killer snow golems, mazes of awesome, parkour, and more! In the center of the maze you will find a Christmas Tree. slide23 wrote an awesome plug in that allows the community to help decorate it! You can place any one block; place carefully though because you won't be able to break it after! I've included a list of different heads for you all to use in case you don't want to use your own. :D There is also a scavenger hunt on this Event round! I've hidden 26 heads around the map with easy-signs to hit for points (you must hit the sign for credit). Those who find all the heads will be credited flair and possible forum tags. Many thanks to everyone who helped make this Event possible and dealing with my controlling anal retentive...... awesomeness. A special thanks to the following: Mrgauthier34, without him half the things on Event wouldn't have been constructed. He's a true trooper and has probably dealt with my controlling shenanigans more than anyone on here (besides meebs slide23). He's been a bau5 at getting things done in a timely fashion as well. cab417 and rtr69, also badasses. Thank you so much for helping myself and MrG out. You've been awesome and great to work with. JudgeDread, beautiful build as always. Denevien and redwall_hp, you two are awesome. The plugins you two wrote for this are amazing and you're not even tech admins. :D smiler100 and slide23, both of you are equally awesome. The adjustments and plugins that were written to make this Event even better are so awesome and Event wouldn't be nearly as amazing without them. SirTacoface, thank you for building a brilliant parkour course for everyone to enjoy and adding a new depth to the map. :D xkittypuppetx, the Christmas Tree that you built for the center of the maze is wonderful and I greatly appreciate your work on it. It looks great and I really enjoyed working with you on Event. SwitchViewz, though you occasionally freak me out, (:P), a lovely spawn as usual. Thank you for making the time with school and your life to make it for me. Also a special thanks to my two speed build arena winners, Segadude20000 and ultrahub. You guys are great. :D
  22. Hello everyone, long time lurker ultrahub here with an idea that has been rattling around my head for some time now. Based on recent discussions that have come up, I feel now would be an appropriate time to put my idea out. The Idea I would like to see some sort of battle server for organized pvp and possibly minigames, I'm thinking hunger games, capture the flag, team deathmatch, and other game modes. This server would run separate to the others, so no major changes would be needed for any existing server. The idea is to have a server that everyone else on the other servers can hop to and from at their leisure to participate in the games. Maybe have some sort of command that let's you queue for the next round of something while building or hunting down your enemies. Then, once it's time you are transported to the battle server for a quick battle, and once it's done you are taken back to a lobby. From there you can go into another game or take a portal back to the server you were previously on. Why I Think It Will Help I believe that we can solve a few of our issues with a server like this, namely bringing in new players. Admitably I think Nerd is falling behind a little when it comes to some other servers I have played on, however no other server has the same attitude and community feel. I think by having a more direct pvp environment, it will attract a lot of "tourists" if you will, then those people would be more inclined to explore the other servers once they had their fun on the battle server. This will undoubtedly draw a lot of pvpers, and many may stick around on S. The reason I think this is simple, people want action immediately. Not everyone wants to start from scratch when it comes to a survival pvp server, as most servers offer a "starter kit". However people will be more inclined to stay and explore our existing servers if they have a direct way of getting to some action. I also think this would be a great compromise for the rest of our servers as well, as I know many people who like to pvp but don't want to play on S, myself included. I feel this may be the closest we can get to pleasing new and old players alike, without drastically chainging our existing servers. End Comments I don't know how possible this would be, and I don't know jack about plugins or the inner workings of the server hardware, but I really do believe this would be a great help to our servers. I know we pride ourselves on being as close to vanilla minecraft as we can, but I think we can't fall too far behind other servers. I'm not saying we should change our ways, but adding in something new as a separate entity to spice things up in addition to our current setup may be just what we need. We could even take this a step farther and have community made maps for our games, I would be more than willing to make a few if needed. I think our community could make a battle server like this stand out from the rest with our... "charm"... or whatever you would call it. Thanks for reading my wall of text, would love to hear constructive comments and suggestions, ultrahub out.
