1. Is there meant to be cobblestone on the mountains? I thought either it's supposed to be smooth stone, or would be substituted for team wool later.

The cobble on the mountains is a "feature" of WorldPainter that can easily be removed if we want to.

2. Wheat grass/ferns come in clusters. Again, not a big deal, just something weird.

3. Any chance of adding forests? It's always nice to sneak around the map to the enemy's base. And I guess we might need them for crafting stuffz,

The vegetation isn't in its final state yet. We're just genning it mostly naked right now to get a feel for the terrain. Normal grass distribution and other features like forests will most definitely be in the final copy.

4. Where would the bases be placed? I explored it assuming they would be at the opposite ends of the border of grass and lava. I'm worried the space between the bases might be too small, if that is the case. I sprinted from one end to the other, (flying over the mountains since teams will dig tunnels through them pretty quickly, so the time was about the same) and it look me about 3 minutes to cross the circle. I know a lot of people said the last map was too big, but a smaller map and easier to traverse terrain might be too much. If the bases are in opposite corners of the map in the lava sections then the distance would probably be fair.

This CTF will be using a different map setup than we've done in the past, it's not really one large contiguous space. We'll be using slide's fancy new lobby system to run the event on multiple "servers." Each team will get its own map. So the map on slide's server would be blue team's map. The center of the map is editable only by blue team. The second ring is where the flag is located, and will contain the pre built flag stands and can not be edited by anyone. At present we're thinking there will be 4 flag spawn locations, the flag will respawn randomly at one of the 4 spots, this will hopefully reduce camping. The outer most portion of the map is wilderness and can be edited by either team. On the edge of the map (no mans land) players will be able to build portals. These portals will teleport you over to the edge of the other team's map. So, basically, there will be two of these maps, with players able to build portals and teleport between them as they battle.

A twist on zombie survival-its starts off with a random selection of people on one team (probably a percentage of the people that are on at the given start time) and every time they kill someone that person becomes a zombie and hunts with them.  For people that joined midgame there would be a drop-zone where it is the surviving populaces job to safely escort them to bases and yaddha yaddha yaddha.  This would allow interaction between incoming players and those currently in.  The game ends either at a time limit or when a percantage of survivors remain (of course this is because a new player could join very late and it would keep going and going).  Of course there would also be rules for both zombies and survivors that would make sure neither side has an advantage (it wouldnt be fun if all the survivors were in high towers with one hit kill bows and what not).  Some suggestions I would have potentially are speed buffs for zombies or permanent night vision.  Anyways im just tryin to throw out stuff in my head.  Thanks for reading.  Tl;dr The zombies are PLAYERS not mobs increasing number by killing survivors.

Alright, so in my quest to find something to do while the staff meeting is going on, I have compiled the list of people who have volunteered to help build the bases and map environment. The current names are as follows:

-AvengerOfThings

-kitcatbar

-Tharine

-buzzinbee

-MasterCommaThe

-schererererer

-cab417

-ROCKONN

-brianherman

-TheRandomnatrix

-Mrloud15

I'd like to get moving on the planning and maybe get a meeting setup for all of us, including Steve and slide, to talk about what environment we want. I believe this will be the best way for us to finalize our building ideas. I am willing to head up that meeting and this part of the planning process if people so wish.

EDIT: Added Mrloud15.

For the record I'm drafting up a design for an outer wall, assuming the base design is outer wall, flags, inner wall, base like last CTF. I'll post a screen shot by the end of the day. I'm just getting one side of the wall done in case I'm totally off.

So here is my rough draft of a outer base wall. It's 93 blocks wide at its widest section, and in my opinion should probably be widened. As explained in the album, that can be done easily. I only did one side of the wall, so feel free to go at it with criticisms. I just did this in a couple hours, it's not like I put days of work into this thing.

Can you make a diagonal section of wall? That way we could make this an octagon and more closely fit the circle.

The lobby and blue server are live at event.nerd.nu, if you aren't whitelisted on either, ask an admin or leave me a msg somewhere lol

So things that need to be done on the lobby map:

* Spleef arena created

* KOTH created

* Maze created/copied in

* Bridges to the platforms made

* Shit prettied up lol

Things that need to be done on the team map:

* Forests created

* Walls around flag area, make sure there are plenty of entrances/exist, maybe dirt piled up against at some places?

* Flag podiums, 4 @ (0, 128), (0, -128), (128, 0), and (-128, 0)

* Lava cleaned up around no mans land

MaterCommaThe, there is a half sphere that is marked for the maze. It is 67 block across and that includes a 1 block wide outline of bedrock, so it's 65 blocks of stone and 2 blocks of bedrock across.

Here are a few pictures of the half sphere.

Edit: No need to make another replay for this.

I have a spleef arena that should work for this event.

Here is what it looks like.

Hey everyone! Sorry for such a short notice, but since the map is up now I would like to have a quick meeting tonight on mumble. Some where around 8PM CDT (9 EDT, 6 PDT). We'll just talk about what exactly we need to get up and how we want it to look. I understand that people may not be able to attend because of time zones or short notice. I'll try and record it and get it up here along with all that we've discussed. Also will try to get a board up on the server. Let others know please! See you then!

Just giving my notice that i'll be stepping back from helping out with the preparation side of things, as well as holding my punt event. I've been under a lot of strain recently and I know I won't have the time to commit to helping out with this, and I don't want to leave people hanging about my involvement. Providing nothing comes up, i'll be available on the day. Being that i'll be one of the few certainly available in the Australian peak time, i'll ensure i'm available during that time to moderate anything that comes up. Will we be running a modreq queue for this event like we did the last? I feel that might beneficial to have again.

I know you had your meeting in mumble earlier on, but if you've not already begun work on the KOTH arena, some tips from someone who enjoys building them:

- Build it with the goal in mind that the king's position is not easily defensible. Getting to the top should reward you with the buffs, but not a cosy position that you can easily snipe down attackers from.

- Make several routes to the top, as opposed to just one that can be easily camped. There should be a mixture of both (mostly) straightforward and parkour routes, typically with the parkour routes being the ones to take when you want to sneak your way to the top.

- Give some spaces for people to step behind and defend themselves (and regain hunger), but try to make them points that you wouldn't be able to safely take shots from. Being that the game is made of blocks, this might not be so easy to achieve.

- We've usually had a layer of water at the bottom to cushion the fall and give people a second chance at climbing up to the top, but depending on how difficult you want to make it, you might prefer not to include something like this.

- If you can add in any kind of cool redstone/piston machinery to make things more interesting, I would definitely recommend it.

- Consider having mob spawner rooms on standby for if you might like to make it a little more difficult to obtain KOTH status at your choosing.

- Include an easy escape route for players to kill themselves if they decide to stop defending the hill. Usually I just put fire or lava in each of the corners.

I'd also suggest considering combat logging as against the rules during the CTF event. I feel like that brought down server morale a great deal to know that people were fine to get away with such things, and it was a great issue to tackle initially because it had slipped our minds to consider prior to the event. I'd recommend taking from Survival's rules regarding PvP and applying them to the event as well. Spawn camping shouldn't be possible if we set up regions similar to last time, base camping is well, the point of the game really so ignore that one. Give me a poke on IRC or in Mumble if you need any more input on the PvP side of things, i'll try to be as available as possible in that regard.

Thanks, my maze is too large for the island. I think my max dimension is around 160.

After fiddling with it for half an hour or so, it looks like my charger port finally gave out. Just writing out things to know for CTF in case this isn't a quick fix.

When world editing, the outer wall should go tower, 7 normal sections, entrance, 11 normal sections, entrance, 7 normal sections, tower for each side. Last night I marked the edges of where it should go. Start with the towers in the corners. The widest part of the tower wall, not the trim or roof, should be flushed with the lapis pillar I put up as a marker. I explained to tompreuss what I meant if that doesn't make sense.

The lobby has a floor now, but I didn't get to build anything else for it. Feel free to take that over or change the floor as you need to. Someone else might need to make the inner wall design. I'm waiting for my dad to come home to see if soldering the charger into the port will fix this, or if it's past that. We have another laptop in the house that I could use, but it's painful to just get Firefox to open on it. Not sure how it would run Minecraft.

I can still get on the forums/subreddit/mumble through my phone if anything needs to ask about something I did on the map. Hopefully this is completely unnecessary and this laptop will be back to normal by the end of the day, but better to be safe I guess. Now back to backing up my shit and shutting this down. =P
