Minecraft pet-peeves thread

Minecraft is a pretty dank video game. With its expansive multiplayer communities featuring servers such as nerd.nu, any online player is bound to bump into dozens, if not hundreds of different players per week! With its simple mechanics and accessible look, Minecraft enables each and every one of these players to have fun and create some swaggin' builds. But alas, with people comes problems. We may not always agree with what others choose to do in-game.

So I created this thread. Express what pisses you off in Minecraft multiplayer in general.

I'll start off with a couple:

  • Blatant inconsistency within group builds. I'm not talking about something being just slightly off, that's fine. But when someone builds in a city that's of a realistic, modern style, mainly 5 blocks per storey, and makes a wood and coal single-storey house that's 12 blocks high, that just grinds my gears.

  • When people say "wanna be friends?" (self explanatory)

Creepy stalker types who do nothing but follow you around.

People who don't read signs and then get upset when something happens (example: big farm that says "no public perms" and then they can't replant)

People who offer a trade and then don't deliver after you have provided your part

People who intentionally build inside/over/under/against your build or marked area

I guess grief in general, but since (on nerd) grief can be rolled back those are the only types that really bother me. Mostly because they show a general lack of respect for other humans. Which is the whole reason for playing on a community.

Lag and the questionable outcomes of it. I was building a half slab platform which has always been a frustrating experience. Usually it just meant I'd drop for a split second then be rubber banded back to the piece I just placed. But recently there seems to have been a change where if you are standing on one half slab you can be occupying the space for one right next to it. This means you can place the block, move onto it, then be in the way of it and the server removes it. I died about once per hundred slabs even going slowly.

People who claim giant swaths of land without building in them.
People who build in the prestine area surrounding my/the current town's builds which makes me want to be a person who claims giant swaths of land without building in them.

Something more legitimate, when a few hundred people get on and mining blocks becomes a strategy game based around how long after breaking a block to keep the button pressed, which blocks to aim at based on predicting which ones are actually broken vs ones that look broken but aren't broken yet server-side, and luck. It's interesting, sure, but it's also a little annoying.

Giant land claims with nothing/very little built in them.

Cults. Cults are a great way to make me hate the everloving shit out of you.

(I'm not going to explain the cult one cause it's extremely personal)

If you build your shit too close to me, I will get irritated.

When kids keep ask people to go see their builds, and keep at it when no one responds/wants to.

When kids tell us not to swear (there is an age/parental advisory agreement for Minecraft, for a reason damnit)

Speaking in another language. Not so much a pet peeve, but it will make me suspicious.

Also religions. No. I'm not fond of fake religions.

These aren't really pet peeves but they do irritate me:

Diamonds spawning right over lava. Of all the hellish things I could ever experience in Minecraft, that's the worst.

OH and creepers. Fuck creepers.

That glitch where your arm sometimes moves up in that weird position I hate it, also titile screen music I don't like that and whatever they did from MC 1.7.10 to 1.8.3 that made it do weird things when minimised and stuff, and also that play icon on the multiplayer menu the sorting arrows are nice, but those should have been on the far right and not on top of the server icon, and then adding that play button on top of it wtf there is a perfectly fine "Connect to server" button. Also adding all that unnecessary stuff to F3, plus hiding all the music and stuff in hidden directories instead of putting it in the usual place like in the minecraft.jar file, plus making it do a file integrity check and re download everything upon launching minecraft, and making that new launcher that uses its own built in JVM instead of the version that is installed on your system, forcing you to use a mojang account to play, and there are more things that I can't remember right now as I need to sleep

Builds that consist only of cobblestone.

One of my pet peeves happens to be people who think they can dictate what you should and should not build your own things out of. I use a texture pack that makes cobblestone look like ACTUAL cobblestone, not that messy fractured stone stuff. It's actually quite attractive. Also, even if that wasn't the case - aesthetic taste is subjective.

One of my pet peeves is people who misconstrue an opinion on aesthetic tastes as an imposition of those tastes upon others.

Nobody is trying to dictate what somebody can build with, they're just pointing out that they have a distaste for cobblestone-exclusive builds.

Not trying to dictate anyone's build, just stating that I personally have a distaste for builds that consist only of cobblestone. "aesthetic taste is subjective" Exactly this. Aesthetically, cobblestone is horrendoussly ugly by itself, and that's just like my opinion, man.

The 1.8 update broke my GUI text.  Now my chat bar appears blank even as I type, and several buttons in the options menu are missing their titles.  I haven't heard of anyone else having this problem either, so it must be some arcane problem with my elderly pizza box laptop.

mmmmmm... pizza

we have a 'public' and 'town' farm, because people kept harvesting our big town farm and not replanting. that's kind of rude. I don't mind sharing, but at least replant.

I just modreq and call it a day. In towns like yours, if a public farm is available, I understand, but there are many small plots in the wilderness where the crops are protected and that just seems counter-productive to me in a PVE environment.
