  1. Last time I jumped into the water right before it turned to ice, I got 'caught' in the ice.  Then when the server started up and the ice turned back to water, I didn't join automatically.  So I had to jump out of the water and back in.

The only thing I can think of is another platform above the portal which people spawn on when being transferred to the lobby.  Then when the water switches to ice, the bottom of that platform will fall disappear.

  2. Ya only shitty thing is that if the control pod and the subwoofer are a different PID then none of your Dolby settings will work.  So Stereo x2 and Stereo were the only settings that worked for sets that had different PIDs.

I made my own cable, but I'm sure you can buy one online somewhere specifically for this.   Just be careful since you could fry your control pod if the cable isn't made to do it properly.

  3. Narissis and UNP, I've owned those speakers too and have gotten warranty replacements for various reasons.  This left me with 3 sets of speakers and one control pod.  I ended up making my own splitter for the control pod and ran 3 sets off of one pod.  It was glorious!  If you guys got to keep your speakers from the other set, then I suggest looking into this.  I've now changed to a different set with a bit better SQ but less volume, but I will always remember the ridiculousness of the Z5500.  These speakers also have a great resale value.  I sold them all as a giant set f

  4. Allowing falling sand to be pushed into a region seems like it would allow people to bypass region protections.  Especially in 1.8, with slime blocks allowing you to push infinitely far with pistons.

Very good point!  I didn't even think about slime blocks as that is probable exactly why they added it in.

I was unsure if the entity thing was an issue or not, but given roastnewt's comment, I think it makes sense to leave it the way it is and just make sure all mods are aware of it for protection purposes.

The redstone repeater issue will be fixed in rev15 and I'll do it for rev14 for the few hours we have left tomorrow morning ha. The issue is that WG shuffled a few flags around and added a new flag and it simply took me some digging to figure out. The entities thing I will have to look at, however I recommend any protections for redstone machines should encompass all states. You may need to inform the mod in the modreq (i'll try to inform the mods as well)

Thanks for looking into it so quickly.  I noticed a few repeaters around the CARBON loop have already been messed with. D:  And to make matters worse, logblock doesn't log repeater changes so there was no way to tell who was doing it.

  5. Looks like there are some issues with the new worldguard.

Entities such as falling sand or gravel that are pushed out of a region and then back in break.

Redstone repeater settings are not protected.  This is a huge issue for any redstone circuit that relies heavily on timing, such as CARBON.

  6. I voted 6k by 6k but from looking at the older rev maps, the smaller revs look way more fun and interesting. The bigger they get the less interesting they seem. Everything is just too spread out.

100% this.  Everything in the current map is just too spread out IMO.  Cities aren't working together as much, there is a crazy amount of open land, public transportation is difficult to build, and the map in general is just hard to explore.  Hell, only one of the special spawners has been found this rev.

I'm personally not a big fan of more portals since we'd just have a bunch of portals sitting around without much development by them.  Take for example the West portal which has very little development by it.  It seems that many cities would much rather build by other larger cities than being off on their own at a portal, as evidenced by the Northwest this rev and Southeast last rev.

  7. TF2 would be cool but we'd need community input on what type of server. For instance, I'm a big fan of 24/7 2fort fast respawn servers. Someone above mentioned rotating between different styles which would be pretty cool as well. Also a stat tracker is always fun as long as it doesn't interfere with gameplay or give you unfair advantages. If we decide to do a gmod server, then I can help with any development for it as I have about 7 years of experience doing coding for gamemodes and addons. I'd also be willing to fix up the classic gmod Fortwars gamemode and let nerd host it as I was the lead developer on that for quite a long time. I have no strong opinions on other servers though.

  8. I have been curious about this as well.   Since I head up CARBON for PvE I deal with issues like this often.  We cover a lot of land so I expect that sometimes builds will interfere and for the most part, people are reasonable.  What I have a problem with is when people end up building something butting right up against our platforms or build a path to our platforms.  We work hard to make our platforms mob proof and when people do this it gives a path for the mobs to get to the platform.  Many times, I don't find this for awhile since we cover such a large area.

What I'm wondering is what can be done about these paths and buildings.  The paths are usually pretty easy to handle, but the buildings usually aren't since they are so large.

  9. I also wont be able to attend but agree with everything Trooper says except for the subreddit flair.  I dont think there should be subreddit flair, but forum badges wouldn't be too bad.   I don't think there should be any special perk in-game, on the subreddit, or on the forums for donating.  Maybe keep a list of all the donors and sort them by total donations, but keep that on the donation page.

As for events. I would love to see more.  The CTF events are some of the best times I've had on MC.  I don't think the other servers should be taken down during the event though.

I personally don't think nerd needs a minigame server.  It might be interesting to try it out, but there are so many out there that it just isn't needed.  The only thing I can think of is a 5k server that has a bunch of different puzzles like that ranging in difficulty.  It would be nice to just log onto a server to do those instead of being stuck at one on PvE.  There were many times during the 5k where I just wanted to take a break from it and work on a project, but I couldn't easily leave without losing my checkpoint.

  10. I thought I posted some of these before on the sub or somewhere else but I couldn't find where I did.

    - Quartz in the overworld.  Quartz is an awesome decorative block but due to how hard it is to get a lot of it, you don't see many people using it.  It would also be nice to have for comparators.

    - Some type of restriction on hopper use.  I'm unsure how much of an effect hoppers have on server lag, but there are some ridiculous automated farms out there that rely way too much on hopper item transportation.

    - A timelimit on horses or something similar.  I remember slide saying that horses caused a decent amount of lag, so I'm not sure if anything could be thought up to reduce the number of horses.

    - Some sort of plugin to protect villagers.  This was discussed a little bit on the subreddit.

  11. People need to post or PM topics. We have very little to go on at the moment. We'd love to have a meeting, but we're not going to call everyone together to talk for 5 to 10 minutes.

Whatever happened to that Google form that asked for suggestions awhile back.  I remember submitting one, but I dont believe there was ever a meeting or discussion about what was all submitted.

As for the smooth slab blocks.  I think it'd be pretty cool to have them, although with a slightly easier recipe.  I think using half slabs makes the most sense, but I think 4 half slabs in a 2x2 grid should give you 2 smooth slab blocks.

  12. I could talk to the gmod community I dev for to see if we could toss one up.  It really wouldn't be too much of a load on the box we have and since I've been a long time developer for gmod, I could make changes as needed.

It would really depend on the demand for it from the nerd.nu community.

  13. It could get confusing for players if the hub is always changing. I don't know how possible it'd be to do this from a tech point of view, either. We could change the hub world every 3 or so months but having different maps any more frequent than that wouldn't be a good idea imo. It's great that there were so many good entries, but that's the point of a competition, to decide the best.

Good point about the confusion.  It would for sure have to be a couple weeks for each lobby design if it was even possible to cycle out lobbies.  I assume it wouldn't be too hard.  Honestly you could just have all the lobbies you want to cycle on a single map, define custom areas for each one, and change the spawn point whenever you want to cycle.

  14. A Couple people on the subreddit mentioned this, but given how good many of the lobbies are, would you consider setting up a rotation of the top 5 or so lobbies?  It'd almost be a waste to only do one and not show off the talent of our players.

  15. Have you guys decided on a Y level for your canals and will they stay at that Y level throughout the server or will they move around?

The reason I ask is due to CARBON planning to be at Y60 for redstone and Y70 for rails.  These Y levels for CARBON are only for the 4 cardinal lines off of spawn and the 600 loop, so if you are going to be outside of the 600 loop then it might not be a big problem.   If you do plan to be around those Y-levels and If you want to, I could work with you on C to figure out a way to design a CARBON/Canal intersection.

  16. Just saw this and figured that I should probably respond to a few things.

Overall, I think CARBON this revision was mainly a learning experience.  There were many mistakes made but it also shows that CARBON can work on this large of a scale.  IMO, here are the main issues that were encountered this rev

    - It took a long time for CARBON to get up and running.  I will take some blame for this as I focused on the Argoth line in the beginning instead of the network.  Next revision, I plan to hand off the Argoth rail duties to someone else so I can focus on CARBON.  (Sorry Argoth)

    - Due to it taking a long time, a lot of the lines have to weave around quite a bit.  This made it near impossible to protect everything.  As Random mentioned, the issues that arise on a day-to-day basis are 99% of the time caused by grief.  Getting the network up and running ASAP will be key for next revision

    - Very little standardization.  I plan to standardize as much of the network as possible which should hopefully reduce inconsistencies that cause problems with the system.  From working on it so much this revision, it is clear that standards are needed for the network.

    - Spawn station was a mess.  Multiple times I went over to the spawn station to try and figure out how it could be salvaged and would always walk away.  One day i just decided that I'd go all out and remove what was there and start over.  It took quite awhile to come up with a good design, but it seems to be working well.  Being that spawn is a main connection people want to make right away, the fact that the spawn CARBON station wasn't up early in the rev, I think was a big reason people avoided it.

    - Many unexpected issues cropped up.  I dont think anyone knew how much of a problem the CW/CCW routing system would cause as well as routing off the loop to multiple cities while utilizing the same line (ex: rose/manta connection).  There was also an initial plan to have 4 Cardinal stations, but that ended up being scrapped.  Just overall, a lot of things that were unexpected due to it being new for this rev.

    - Cities don't seem motivated to use rails.  I'm not sure if this is due to horses being introduces or if people prefer portals, but some of the major cities don't even have a rail station or any outbound rails.

I enjoy working on CARBON quite a bit, even though it can be stressful at times, so I would like to handle the spawn station next revision although any help would be greatly appreciated.  I also plan to focus primarily on CARBON, so can help a lot form the start.  Usually, the main hold ups are gathering enough materials, mostly redstone, so donations usually drive how quickly the network is put together.   I am more than willing to help cities out with their station or the lines if they need help and I know many others are willing to help as well.

  17. Are we required to build it on nerd on the event server? I mean I MAY have one that is for sure within the size limit, but its currently on a personal world. Just curious.

^  I believe many people, including myself, have created a lobby already in single player or on creative in preparation for this event.  I don't see any reason why a person can't provide a schematic of their build to have imported in given that we can use many world edit commands anyways.

  18.

I just ran the /lbrb command which undoes your edits for a certain time period (a couple of weeks), and then redid edits that destroyed ores (e.g. diamonds, iron, etc).  This is what happens when you xray.  You were told about this at spawn.

Out of curiosity, given that I've been on the server since the beginning of the rev and pretty well established at this point and really didn't need any new materials in the past few weeks, then why wouldn't you wipe everything I did.  Seems odd you'd do just a few weeks.   I feel it should be an all or nothing sort of thing.  If you think I got ores in an illegitimate way  and then used that to get more and more and build up my area, then wipe everything I did as it is all not legit.   Otherwise by only doing a few weeks you are essentially saying you believe this was a one time offense and if that is the case then only wipe that time period.

  19. It is standard practice to roll back all a players edits in the world.  However, it is totally up to the server admins if they want to redo some of the edits of the player.  If some of his edits have been rolled back then one of the server admins have rolled them back.

All of them?!?! Wait seriously?  I have put a ton of time into creating stuff for Argoth as well as into other combined effort projects.  I just asked my buddy to check out a few items and he said my house is still there but a project I was working on with him was rolled back leaving a mess of missing blocks, a lot of the local rail system I set up has been wiped, the automatic farm I setup with skydaddy is flooded and a mess, among other things just randomly missing.   Not too sure about the other rail stuff I did, but if that is all rolled back, then Argoth just lost 90% of their rail system.

Was it really necessary to rollback everything?  Just look at my mining history on the server and it should be 100% clear that this is the only incident.
