Mumberthrax
nerd.nu has a rule against disruptive arguments/discussions in global chat. There is a sort of unspoken rule on PvE that "politics" and "religion" are banned topics except in clanchat, relegated to the #politics channel or similar. Is this in fact a policy that staff are supposed to enforce? If so, are there any guidelines or specific criteria for determining whether a given topic or phrase is okay or not? Guest Former Staff
nerd.nu has a rule against disruptive arguments/discussions in global chat. Politics and religion are extremely likely to become discussions that will be heated purely because these tend to go into the core values that people hold close. Personally, I'd prefer if we kept our current stance of asking people to move such conversations to a clanchat or private messages rather than pursue any method of moderating phrases or otherwise. This was means people who want to be involved in discussions about topics like politics and religion can voluntarily participate without us having a blanket 'ban' of discussions anywhere. The rule we currently have in place is merely a heads up that we may ask conversations to be moved out of public chat: No disruptive arguments/discussions in global chat Staff will ask you to take these to private message or clanchat if you wish to continue. We don't use a go-to list of phrases of topics that will trigger us to ask people to move conversations elsewhere. It's mostly from seeing how people are reacting in chat and seeing the warning signs that may be the catalyst for a heated public conversation. TL:DR - It's not our place to want to moderate every word - People are mature enough to have the conversations outside of the public chat.
