robr
a little too late for this rev, i would make the suggestion that once we have announced the next rev, we allow people modreq for protection of their entire existing claims so they can remove the claim fences (which are ugly as hell 95% of the time) without worry of grief/squatting in the last month or so of the rev. This way the save won't have as many of those random fences around, at least not around the nicer builds that care about being complete.. ? Guest Former Staff
This sounds like a good idea that we can consider towards the end of the following revision!
Guest Former Staff
Hello, we’re checking in again, having recently reviewed this topic on request in our latest padmin meeting. The short response is that we will not be looking to implement this idea for the reasoning which follows. Initially the three of us started the discussion in favour of the idea. We see the importance of protecting structures and land developments which are underway or built. When we began talking about how this would work practically, we discovered a can of worms waiting to be opened. From what we have seen, the culture on P has many nuances which despite our efforts so far, only a limited number of people are fully aware of. In an attempt to avoid protection policies changing towards the end of a revision, potentially causing confusion among staff as well as individuals when that policy expires for the following revision, we’d prefer to see this change not implemented at all. We envisioned a scenario where individuals could aggressively create claim fences anywhere around the map to get them protected and locked away. Alternatively, we imagined a more difficult scenario, in trying to protect the many non-rectangular claims set up. Instead, what we should see naturally throughout the progress of a revision is for settlements and individuals to naturally build up and request protections for their builds. We currently see roughly 18-20% of all our modreqs coming in, to be protection requests. If individuals continue to create protection requests as they build more, then as a revision progresses and we reach the end, all of their structures should have received protection by that final month. While we’re not looking to change protection policies to allow for this particular request, the underlying concern about removing fence claims should resolve itself by the late rev, as if individuals or settlements have used up all the space in the claim, then fences can be safely removed. We do advertise the reset date a month out too, which should allow for enough time to coordinate and remove fences in preparation for the final save.
