  1. I've already expressed my views in the meeting and at more length in Slack, but I'll reiterate here for anyone who wasn't around for either:

My current view is that Slack seems like the best option. Consolidation of Staff/Player chat back into one application not only promotes more communication between the two but also saves staff having to run/check/use two chat apps. I admit I was skeptical about Slack at first (change is scary), but I've come to like it and if allowing people to invite themselves is as easy as it currently seems, then I see no reason not to push forward with it.

I'm certainly not against other options, but I would like to see staff chat also move to whatever is chosen, ideally.

  2. Maybe we ought to make the map available with CTF plugins disabled and free, unlimited-fuel jetpacks (or simply flying enabled) as sort of a "museum" server to allow players who missed the event or want a second look to explore it.

I second this. While we usually only have rev maps available for download, I think the CTF map qualifies as a worthy exception.

  3. I enjoyed the event. I thought its biggest strength was all the great stuff people had built around the map. The ships, meteors, etc were a lot of fun to explore.

For next CTF I'd really like to see something ground based make a comeback (the jetpacks were great fun but mid-air combat was near impossible). But, I think it'd be really cool to have a heavily customised & themed map featuring explorable builds again.

Thanks to all those who worked on the project and to everyone who took part. :)

  4. A big problem, as I see it, is that even if TNT is only enabled in certain regions, there are still ways to cause destruction in neighbouring areas if you try hard enough. Whenever C does chaos, spawn ends up getting nuked despite still having TNT disabled in its region.

  5. the challenge I am seeing with imposing set percentage splits is enforcement. I don't know of a good way to measure this, short of being required to inspect every grinder on the map.

That's a good point, but I don't think it would require inspecting every grinder, simply investigating them in cases where people have complained (such as the one Zom is referencing), would probably suffice.

  6. I have an issue with any type of grinder with such an imbalanced split of drops. While it's certainly a bigger issue when it's a unique or rare spawner, I believe all grinders should have a roughly even split of drops. If a particular grinder ends up being 60/40 in favour of the builder then that is not a big deal, but I do not believe a 90/10 split (if indeed it is that) is in the spirit of the server. There is also no reason a public chest cannot be emptied by a member of that region when nobody else is using the grinder. And any time anyone uses the public portion of the grinder, they are helping to contribute to the private chest too by keeping chunks loaded, so it's not like the builder isn't profiting from their work with the 50/50 split.

Temples may not be so few in number this rev, but they aren't especially common either, compared to skele spawners and the like. Even if I did agree with allowing a skele spawner to be imbalanced, I still don't think I would support the same rule for temples.

I think in this particular case, the grinder should be assessed to verify its output split and if it is as imbalanced as people have claimed, then they should be asked to amend the design to solve the issue.

  7. I don't think we need less plumping or a smaller map. Both of those ideas are a fantastic way to reduce late rev server population, not maintain it.. Last rev a big complaint by new players was that there wasn't enough space inbetween builds late rev to found a city and one of my biggest complaints when I started playing on P (before ore plumping) was that the ores were almost all but gone by the time I started playing. I couldn't get a meaningful amount of gold or dia etc because I was constantly finding large branch mines that were picked clean, no matter where I dug. New, late rev players simply won't stick around if they feel like they're left with scraps.

I think the more events idea is a good one. If/when people run out of things to work on, it gives them a reason to log on.
