  1. On a side note, this thread has seriously derailed in to a "why jchance sux" thread, which is fine, but you might want to stay on topic.   You can start a whole new thread why jchance sux if you like.

I provided an example of how staff were condescending/publicly shaming (or seemed to be) in ban appeals. Not my fault people took it and ran.with it.

  2. Since when?

most recently it was abroosky's appeal and jchance's response that was a bit off-putting. https://nerd.nu/forums/topic/3126-abroosky-jchance/#entry24396

Im going to give a play-by-play of the appeal, to show what exactly is wrong.

Abroosky used to play quite a bit, and fell off a while back. Recently he started playing again, and was banned not too long after Gizzletinks was, under the reasoning that they were one and the same person. Jchance proceeded to link to a terrible site with a video that was unrelated about some PvP, and used it as the main defense of the ban, as it somehow reinforces the claim of how abroosky is on a list of evasion accounts. Appeal is locked and moved.

Abroosky reopens an appeal with a search for more information, and gives a proper link to the video on youtube. He refutes the fact that his account is compromised, and gives proof denying jchances entire argument of playing in a certain timeframe using the public logs to prove that he was playing far before the incriminating time. He questions whether or not facts were checked when the ban was made, and closes with a statement of how his friendship with Gizzletinks will probably be the reason for the denial.

Jchance's response to the appeal is as follows: You're right, you won't get unbanned.  Closing appeal.

The amount of work and facts in this appeal showing why Abroosky should be unbanned is thrown out the window by jchance, and all without even a bit of rebuttal to his claims. The disregard to facts and claims is astounding. How quickly it was tossed aside and disregarded should be a wake-up call to just how little people care when they deal with those who are labeled toxic.

Now I know this post is probably going to get removed for "discussing bans in public chat" and I'm going to get warned again for speaking my mind, but it just needed to be put out there.

  4. Things We've Learned ( hopefully):

Toxic is a term that creates separation of groups, and is used to dismiss opinions.

It's overuse by both staff and player alike has created a circlejerk around it.

Some still use it, while being the very thing they vilify.

Being on either end of the word is unacceptable, and some stay by their predispositions towards those labeled by it, despite non-interaction with said players.

Let's try not to use this word as much as we have, while still understanding that some players do indeed fit the mold.

  5. The thing ive seen is that "toxic" is used as a way to disregard people and their opinions. I've been on both sides of the term, and it is never good when someone uses it because of the connotations it has in this community. It's been used and overused so much that the circlejerk around it is an entirely valid point of how it was used to create a "us-vs-them", the "toxic" and the "normals".

  6. HIGHLY recommended to install this game ASAP if you want to play, the tutorial and patching process are somewhat cumbersome.

Also, post your names here, so we can friend each other and squad up quickly once the event starts.

Im d3northway (d3north is my NC profile)

  7. Great googly moogly an admin with a desire for improvement. This is exactly the kind of mindset Sadmins need, and I hope that this sort of drive spreads to all corners of nerd.

Congrats on the promotion, diz. Let's look to a good future.

  8. Won't all those slimeball will be the hardest to find in the beginning of the rev?

Swamps are desirable for citybuilding, flat ground, pre-placed water that if unwanted is shallow enough to fill easily, excess of trees so plenty of lumber, and of course, slime chunks that can be slabbed and lit to create spawners underground.

  9. I know that in some competitive games on steam you can use Group tags, such as in CS:GO or DotA 2, and some others.

I've generally been against clantags in profile names, it clutters and disorganizes friendlists and makes it difficult to find who is who. (I realize I say this as my name for the past six months has been d3north_4K, which was a joke but I liked the look of it and was too lazy to change it back)

Letting people know we are all together isn't always a good thing, and usually gets all of us put in a bad light for stacking teams etc.

Having a public group but having application for clantag usage always seemed a bit snobbish to me, sure you can hang out with us but you never really are part of our group, etc. It creates smaller groups within groups, and that isnt good for a whole host of reasons.

I dunno. I'm not really for clantags, but I see their usefulness.

Its a Multi-stage Missile/Cannon Launcher. Staging keys are 3 2 1, from back to front. Ends up putting the first row of cannons pretty far out for it's size. Meant for .03, has Half-pipe Holders.

  11. Ideas, questions, builds, etc. Post em here.

HOW TO SHARE .BSG FILES VIA PLAINTEXT

    1. Get Notepad++ or equivalent.

    2. Open .bsg and copy the entire file.

    3. Paste into preferred text box.

    4. To use other's machines, copy their code, and paste into Notepad++ or equivalent.

    5. Save the file as a .bsg, not a .txt. (having all the code on a single line is ok, the spacings are just for readability)

    6. Open Besiege and select your new machine to load, and enjoy.

    Optional, yet recommended:

Update to most recent build, or state if the machine is intended for older builds.

State any custom keybinds for parts.

    State intended goal of machine.

  12. What if we are split very evenly

demand for more options to vote on

we would need a solid mindset on going in.

Do we want to say the vote is final?

A two-thirds vote or thirty people is required to stay. If neither are reached then the revision will end.

No other options will be added. More moving parts means more things break. Keep it solid and final, and little-to-no trouble will be had.

Fifteen week revisions, split into three parts of five weeks each. The vote for another five weeks begins with the last five weeks of the official revision, and lasts until the final week, with results announced across the board the following day. Should the extension vote pass, a five week period will be appended to the current revision, with no possibility of extension for any reason.

Make this a Public, Visible vote, and allow comments and discussion in it's thread. A vote for extending requires a reason to be posted in the thread, be it more building time or simply enjoyment of local terrain etc. A vote for extension without a reason is removed, and fraudulent votes are removed as well.

This system gives a reasonably long amount of time to build, and the extension for those who wish to complete their build. I believe that this would work great, as it gives everyone a specific date instead of realizing interest has vanished and then a few weeks to prepare a new revision. It gives even periods of five weeks for review of server statistics and a proper deadline for admins to prepare new revisions, and techs to update plugins.

Im just looking for ways to improve the system, to make it more concrete and actually possible.

  13. As I stated before, and some people are alluding to, a defined end of rev is necessary.

I put forward a fifteen week plan, about three and a half months. This is a nice round number, and can be extended another five weeks if player interest in the map and revision is high.

With the fifteen weeks, you can split them into five week sections, and review and plan around each one. It makes deadlines easier, and not having a month-based system offers up a rotationary system for revisions (i.e. preventing things like Christmas occurs end of rev, or summer break is beginning of rev).

The five week extension is a non-repeatable item, and will be voted on by the players and staff via the forum polls, with publicly viewable votes. This prevents ballot stuffing, and opens up discussion for and against the extension.

Any ideas that could improve this?
