  1. There has been some interest from the community to expand out from just running minecraft servers. A more general poll was created by @Barlimore here, but we would like to know what kinds of games you would like to see run in an official role by NerdNu.

It would be preferred to run servers that have the ability to support large number of people so that a bunch of people could enjoy playing at once, this is not to say that other types of games that don't have this kind of server would be rejected.

We would like to hear about the games that people would like to see hosted, and after a week or so I will close this thread and open up a vote and go with the top couple games and move forward from there. Following that, we will need to raise some money as a starter to setup another box that will be used to run these servers.

I would ask that everything be kept civil in this thread, no bashing other people's suggestions.

  2. So, you really aren't providing us much to go on here.  I looked at the logs and I don't see any bans for the two usernames that I have seen you log in as, nor have I seen a ban added to the IP that you connected from.  Can you provide me with what username you tried to join the IRC room as?  Can you try again, and if you still have issues can you join #llama so that I can see the hostmask that you are connecting from to see who/why/when the ban was added.

  3. There has been a lot of chaos over the past few weeks in regards to the state of Minecraft and Bukkit.

    First of all, Bukkit.

The software that we currently use on the servers is spigot, which is a derivation from CraftBukkit with a few changes for performance. A few weeks ago, the project lead of Bukkit made a post to talk about the decay in interest from the developers of CraftBukkit to continue the update for Minecraft 1.8. Following that there was the big reveal that Mojang acquired Bukkit two years prior when it acquired the primary Bukkit team. This lead to a bunch of controversy, and ultimately the CraftBukkit code was taken down by a DMCA from a Bukkit developer. And since then many of the Bukkit team have stepped down.

    Secondly, the Microsoft acquisition

Yesterday it was announced that Microsoft has acquired Mojang for $2.5 billion and again there has been a lot of people who dislike this and have left the Minecraft community. Things will continue to be updated.

    Current state of affairs

Since the essential halt of Bukkit, and with no way to move forward, several projects have popped up. Spigot is switching the way that it does its deployment, which will download and patch an existing minecraft_server.jar. There is also Sponge which will be tacking onto Forge in order to provide an API in a similar fashion to Bukkit which would allow plugins to work from version to version of minecraft easily.

    The future of nerd.nu

As it stands, we will continue to move forward and run the servers. For the time being we will have to stick with Minecraft 1.7 until something viable for 1.8 is out. I personally am watching Sponge, and will hope to get involved with that. All of the techs and I will have to decide what route we wish to take going forward with the server software, but we will try to keep everyone in the loop, but we do plan on continuing on with the servers.

  4. Again, the "no" votes aren't meant to be a negative.   They are just a "I'm not 100%" and if there are issues with the person, contact the head admins about it.  The only thing separating out into the different servers would do would segregate the mods.   If they feel like they are classed as an S mod, they might not even bother looking at the P and C nominations.  Also, how do you decide which server the person should be modded for?  It couldn't just be determined by number of hours on each server.  What if they are just as active on multiple servers?  Should they be nominated in all of them separately?  I think that this would add a whole bunch of bureaucracy that is not needed.  A mod should just be a mod in general.

  5. You are more than welcome to help with appeals of old moderators, and those that have been open a while with no response.  If you have any questions, feel free to ask an admin :)

Cyotie has been around on IRC in the last day or so talking, so perhaps he is just busy.

  6. I've been thinking this morning about plugins for CTF like stuff.  I'll be taking a shot at refactoring the CutePVP code to generalise some of the ideas in there (for example, giving different wool colours different effects).  I also have a couple of other ideas I'd like to play with like special arrows (exploding or cobweb nets, for example).  Also wondering whether it's possible for players to battle each other as mobs, with creature type determining special abilities.  I have no idea if that is even possible.

slide and I have been discussing a rewrite of the CutePVP plugin, it has caused some issues in the past, and with our experiences from the last events we should be able to cover a lot more of the issues that were experienced.   What do you mean by giving different wool colours different effects?  Like the different teams?    It is technically possible to have players battle as mobs, there is a plugin called MobDisguise (I believe) that does this.
