Hello all, Recently there was a discussion about about a player with IRL issues with child pornography. Though there was no accusation of inappropriate behavior on the server, we decided that it was necessary to issue a ban across nerd platforms. While we think the risk of harm was low, if an on-server issue did arise it would have caused more harm to the community to not be proactive. We also determined we needed a consistent policy for taking action in the future. A few players expressed, in #pve discord channel, their concern that this ban took too long to enact and wanted to see clear action in the future. We believe that this policy will enable faster action in the future. To that end, the following two statements have been drafted to be included in the general "All Service" Nerd.Nu rules. As with all rules these will need to be evaluated and handled on a case-by-case basis, but having a policy in place should allow for quick and consistent enforcement. Please review and provide feedback and/or suggested edits. Thanks -pez Outside Conduct Policy We do not want to police people's lives and actions outside the server, but some outside issues can spill over into the community and have high enough potential to cause irreparable harm to our player base and community. This written policy is needed to mitigate that risk. Anyone found to have a conviction for, admission of, or credible evidence of having committed the following will be banned from all Nerd.Nu platforms: Financial, physical, sexual, or other types of abuse of children, dependent adults, or elders. This list is modeled after real world mandatory-reporting requirements. Any crime where a conviction results in a restriction on a person's participation in public spaces, or requires notification of proximity/participation, in all applicable jurisdictions. Violations of other Nerd.Nu rules directed towards Nerd.Nu players such as doxxing, harassment, racism, etc. Why this policy is needed Nerd.Nu staff has historically avoided bans for outside conduct, but as people's online lives and offline lives become more and more intertwined we feel that the risk to the Nerd.Nu community of inappropriate real-world actions by community members has increased. It is no longer possible to completely separate online/offline personas. Knowledge of any of these real-world concerns and failure to act by Nerd.Nu staff may be construed by those unfamiliar with our existing rules as tacit approval of their actions and result in damage to the community.

Back when the modern incarnation of the chaos snapshot server started, the following warning was given: "We give no guarantees that the map will remain functional from one week to the next. We may reset the map as necessary." To date it has not been necessary to reset the map, though there's been some discussions about how, when, and if we should reset. One of the primary goals of the snapshot server has been to allow people to try out the new features as soon as they're released. Resetting means any new blocks, structures, or terrain generation will be closer to spawn, but it also means that everyone starts from scratch which can make it more difficult to hop on chaos only occasionally check out new features. As something of a compromise we'd like to try using MCA Selector to filter unused chunks based on InhabitedTime. After some test runs using the chaos map data 1 hour of InhabitedTime plus those within a 6 chunk radius gets most of the "builds" that are visible on the map, plus 2 * render distance around them. This will let people keep their semi-established bases, and their inventory so they can quickly get going with new content, but at the possible expense of some ... abrupt transitions between chunks. To get rough idea of the density of chunks in the ~2000 blocks near spawn, here is PvE rev24 with the same filter applied, but the InhabitedTime requirement cranked up much higher to give a rough feel for what the selection would look like. In this example, everything highlighted would be preserved and the surrounding chunks would be deleted so they could regenerate with whatever world generation changes may have been implemented.

Appeals are not a place for a banned person to hear arguments in favor of a ban, pass judgment upon the ban, and decide if they will allow themselves to be banned. The appeals process exists so people can argue in favor of returning to the community. Acknowledging the issue, and stating what you will do to avoid the issue in the future is a good start. You acknowledged the issue (good!) and then tried to justify your calls for violence(bad!) by mentioning two groups you believe are deserving of violence. Your initial appeal gave no indication that you would hesitate to make similar statements in the future. Your reply is no better. Rule 1 is "be respectful and civil toward your fellow players" and we have reminded you of this more times than we should have needed to. You've required a disproportionate amount of our time to moderate. Hi Greg_TheTurtle, Here are the edits near your, and Povril's deaths in lava: It looks like Povril only created the 1 sandstone block. Expanding the search 5 blocks farther still only shows Povril as having created the sandstone block. I did find the following when trying to collect evidence of Povril killing you: Povril seems to have been in a 1x1 hole and you filled it in with sand leading to a suffocation death. Please read the rules and confirm you have understood them. If you want to PvP on PvE please create a PvP arena. These can be as large as 200x200 and once built, and fully enclosed, the walls can be replaced with barrier blocks for a natural look. Thanks -pez
