  1. Regarding Subreddit/Mumble/IRC:

Changing the subreddit name would most likely not be an option, since we can't migrate everyone over. IRC is similar, but would be easier to handle, maybe a reroute? -I don't know how things work-

As for mumble I don't see any reason for it to not be changed, but again, I don't know the technical limitations

/r/nerdnu is already claimed by Deaygo as a placeholder, so moving to it would be trivial. Not sure about IRC.

The bigger issue is with the fact that we've ALWAYS been at /r/mcpublic and #RedditMC. It's typically not a good idea to go away from a branding you've used for a long, long time. But it's really short term losses that are the killers there, people who were looking for us at the location we used to be and not finding us. As long as there's some kind of redirect, there shouldn't be too much of an issue on that score.

  2. Whilst I agree with Narissis in general in his above post, it's important to note that not all staff are able to vote properly. For example, a past admin once voted 'no' on literally everyone that wasn't from their 'home' server despite there being an "I don't know this player well enough" option - however for the most part the current voting round seems to be in order.

To be fair, having a "Don't know well enough" option is fairly recent, like the last 2-3 mod votes, IIRC. "No" used to mean either "No" or "I don't know them well enough". That's why the options were separated.

  3. Hello, shoobox. Please wait for your banning moderator, Trooprm32, to get back to you regarding your ban. If that has not happened within two days, please bump your appeal.

  4. Hi, skiflea, thanks for appealing.

You were banned for trapping two players and spawning doppelgangers, which killed them repeatedly without their consent.

    aFDTLKV.png

The dark blue markers show where you placed lapis blocks, preventing the other players' escapes. The light blue markers are where you spawned two doppelgangers. This incident alone was enough to warrant a ban, but you had also been warned numerous times over the previous few days about spawning wild doppels that could kill people.

The standard ban length for illegal PvP is one month. Please reappeal no sooner than November 28, 2014, quoting the rule that you broke in your post.

  5. I actually personally kind of like the general concept. I can see how the culture clash could be a problem - perhaps something like a multiverse with multiple pvp and pve worlds would allow more aggressive/passive (or competitive/collaborative) cultures to find distinct niches in a broader system. Having richer resources in the pvp enabled world, including relative ore plumping, unique mob spawners, etc. would incentivize development in the pvp areas and thus encourage the risk of pvp for the ambitious and adventurous (rather than just gathering resources in pve zones to battle in pvp zones without any stakes). The very casual players could still spend most of their time in the pve zones and only venture out when they feel like it, but would naturally miss out on the advantages of working in the more dangerous and lucrative environment.

That kind of reminds me a bit of how EVE Online handles PvP areas. There are many solar systems, each with a security level, 0.0 to 1.0. The lower the security level, the more at risk you are for attacks by other players (there is an NPC security force that shows up if you attack in the higher level systems.)

It sort of gives me an idea where different areas could have different PvP levels, say 1-5. Level 1 would be normal PvP, level 5 would be PvE. 2-4 would be areas where PvP is possible, but it takes longer/has less effect. Say I hit someone with a diamond sword in a level 2 area. It does, let's say, 4 hearts of damage. In a level 4 area, it could do 1 heart.

Just an idea, it's late and I'm tired, so I apologize if it's terrible/hard to understand.

  6. We could also maybe get some input from admins of other large creative servers that allow worldedit. Keralis' server springs to mind. I know they have it, but I don't think they have any real issues with grief. You do have to apply to build on there, though, so that's probably a barrier. We don't do that so we have to be careful.

  7. Hello, Maroonbass. Thanks for appealing.

I banned you after a player reported grief of a beacon pyramid. I investigated and saw that you and your friend had removed a good number of the blocks from the pyramid, mostly from the inside, leaving the outside intact. This is grief, and is against our rules.

    Past appeals:

    November 2011 (Griefing)

    December 2011 (Homophobia)

    February 2012 (Griefing)

September 2012 (Xray, length extended for ban evasion)

May 2013 (Xray, given permanent ban)

    December 2013 (Xray, appeal denied)

    June 2014 (Xray, appeal denied)

  10. I like the idea of rescinding bans more than a year old (with exceptions for the toxic players and intentional griefers, etc.), but I'm not sure it's something that should be announced, at least explicitly. A lot of the ban appeals from older than a year are from people who were banned but weren't even aware of it until they tried to play again. This would allow them to play without announcing to every griefer out there, "Hey, you're all unbanned, come fuck our shit up!" I feel like it would be better to just amnesty the bans, then address questions if anyone asks.

I also think we need to have a clear criteria for what kind of ban would be eligible for amnesty. Anything with the word "minor" in it would probably be a good candidate, for example. Things like crop grief as well, as while it's against the rules and bannable, it's not that big of a deal a rev or two later.

  13. One thing I'd like to see is a large area, maybe a quarter of the map or so, be set aside for a specific theme. The community could vote on the theme before the rev starts, then reserve the NE quadrant of the map for that purpose. Say the theme is "Ancient Rome", the area would be built up completely to look like a Roman city and countryside. The rest of the map would be the usual builds.

The main problem I have with playing on C is just because there's no real goal. I don't feel like I'm working towards an end like I do on P, and something like that would make it a lot more fun to play on C.
