  1. When I was a mod, there was a "suggested punishment" document.  I.E., if player does x, warn on first offense, then ban for y amount of time, if they continue to break the same rule, extend to z amount of time, etc.  Is this still the case?  Making sure everyone follows that document could reduce some of the variability that the OP has a problem with.

  2. I think this is a good idea in theory, but would be unenforceable in practice.  The problem is that "insulting the community" is so subjective.  If someone has legitimate grievances that they air when they leave, for example Tharine, they run the risk of being banned under this rule.  And if a rule like this were implemented, it would likely be enforced by the people with whom they have the grievances, which is inviting a conflict of interest.

  3. I feel that in this case, because the Survival community knows each other so well, whoever wants to be admin should simply step up and say so, and then their peers can choose whether or not they'll be a good fit. You obviously want someone assertive to be your admin so why not see who is really willing to help S go places?

    I'll do it

Too bad I'm persona non grata

  4. Hello everyone!

Thanks for making the Museum Build contest such a success.  We had four really good entries by MasterCommaThe, jdgordon01, stratjeff, and TokenChineseGuy.

Like we said in the announcement thread, there are TWO winners: a popular winner and a host pick.

As you can see from the voting thread,

    MasterCommaThe is the popular choice!

After much discussion, Four_Down and I have chosen

    jdgordon01 as the host choice!

In regards to the prizes:  Apparently steam doesn't sell $25 gift cards (whoops!), but if you PM me your paypal email or bitcoin address or other preferred method of payment, I can just send you the value in cash

We are also looking for build ideas for our next contest.

    Congratulations to our winners!

  5. Now that all the entries are in, it's time to start voting on the Community Pick for the Museum Build Contest.

You will notice that I have made the votes public.  We made this choice in order to avoid vote-stuffing.  Votes from brand-new accounts, alts, etc, will be discounted.

Because of the delay (sorry!) in getting this poll up, voting will last until this Sunday (February 1st).

I'd also like to ask that you vote for the entry that you actually like the best.  Please don't make this a popularity contest.

PLEASE VISIT EVERY BUILD BEFORE VOTING!  Sometimes stuff looks different in-person.

    Good luck everyone!

  6. We actually do have Google Analytics and looking at them, reddit.com is by far the #1 referral we have. I know during last PvE launch we had a post at the top of r/minecraft which I know brought in a LOT of people. PvE was capped at 250 and still more were waiting in the lobby.

Is there any way to subdivide reddit.com?  I think a lot of that might be current players clicking through posts on /r/mcpublic, not actual new traffic.

  7. . . . Plus I wouldn't have to worry about my build interfering with someone's city expansion, as I'm never sure how far out would be okay for me to build. On top of this, there's so many small builds everywhere so it's hard to find a decent area away from people's builds to do a large scale building.

If not, at least, take this into consideration.

As of now - I've spent the past hour or so looking around the map for an area reasonably distanced from people's builds to do another large scale building and so far I've no dice. . .

Another possible solution is just to make the map bigger.  With sprint-flying, teleporting, warps, etc, the map could easily be a lot bigger.  Disk space isn't an issue either, I have a world that is 28,000 blocks on a side, and it only takes up 14 gigs.

  8. Quick question of minutia - with the transfer of rights to copy/use the build, does the original builder keep attribution rights? Also, would you prefer a completely original design for this, or would one modified/expanded from a previously-made build be alright? I just might make a submission.

I don't know what you mean by attribution rights.  Like a sign somewhere saying who built it?  That's acceptable.

You may modify a previous build, as long as you're modifying your own build or have permission from everyone who was involved in building it.

  9. Hello, everyone.  I'd like to announce a build contest on c.nerd.nu, sponsored by Four_Down and me.  We hope this can be a recurring event, depending on how successful the first one is.

This contest will have TWO winners: a community pick, and a host pick.  The community winner will be chosen by a forum poll, and the host winner will be chosen by Four_Down and myself.  The community pick and the host pick could be the same build.

BOTH the host pick and the community pick will be offered a $25 steam gift card in exchange for the rights to copy/use their build as Four and I see fit.  If the host pick and community pick are the same person/build, they will be offered a $50 gift card.  Winning does not obligate you to accept these terms.

This first build is a MUSEUM BUILD.  The guidelines are as follows:

    1.  Be recognizable as a museum.  This most likely means Greco-Roman architecture, but we will accept more modern building styles.
    2.  The build will serve as a "hub" to link to other servers.  In addition to using the build for our own purposes, we would like to use the build to link to old revisions of C/P/S, so each portal would take you to an old revision (so you can reminisce about old builds).  This means that each "viewing/display" area inside the building should have space for a portal.  If anyone is familiar with the server TheAcamadician hosts, exactly like that.

The contest will end on Sunday, January 25th, giving you two weekends to build.  Voting for the community pick will begin immediately afterwards, and will last until the following Friday (Jan 30th), at which point both the Host and Community Picks will be announced.  To enter, just respond to this post with the coordinates of your build (before January 25th). That's it!  Be creative and have fun!

EDIT:  Building in teams is allowed, as long as you say how you would like the prize distributed in your submission post.
