Yes. If you read the original post above, you'll see that I have discovered a method to generate public moderation logs from reddit itself without the need for any third party bot/script/website setups, and the reddit user go1dfish has provided an alternative frontend for veiwing the logs. all that a subreddit moderator has to do in order to set it up is invite the account /u/publicmodlogs to become a moderator of their subreddit, granting it no permissions. if you'd prefer not to read the post text above, I also wrote a post on reddit about this for anyone curious about how it works: https://www.reddit.com/r/publicmodlogs/comments/360amy/so_how_does_this_public_moderation_logs_thing/ That said, this isn't so much a request for it to be done as much as it is seeking input from the community on whether they would like to see this on /r/mcpublic.

No, there's no checkbox for public moderation logs on reddit. The Reddit admins wanted to introduce them as an option a while back, but a handful of mods on large subreddits said they didn't want it to be available as an option since people would clamor for it and it would make them look bad if they said they didn't want it. kind of weird logic, but thats the gist of the argument. They also said it would cause witch hunts against moderators when the mods enforce a rule because the community was too dumb to understand how the rules applied to any given situation. https://www.reddit.com/r/modnews/comments/ov7rt/moderators_feedback_requested_on_enabling_public/ So the admins at the time sided with these mods and chose not to supply the feature natively, allowing workaround options like /r/uncensorship and /r/POLITIC and /r/undelete, and now /u/publicmodlogs to spring up as solutions for those who want them. edit: If the Reddit admins did provide the public log they were talking about years back, then it would be much more feature-rich than what we have currently. It would have the option to tag mod actions with reasons or rules, the options to anonymize the acting moderator, etc. Things which would make things better. But a lack of those features is still better than complete opacity in many cases on reddit, in my opinion. Again, /r/mcpublic might not need this, especially since it's about a set of game servers and not really about the subreddit. But it's my hope that folks here will set it up to lend support for the concept more broadly on reddit.

https://nerd-headadmin.uservoice.com/ also, admins have discussed alternate minecraft servers before. Not all of these discussions have been published, but here's one: https://nerd.nu/forums/topic/2760-discussion-on-alternate-nerdnu-minecraft-servers/ Also there are these: https://nerd-headadmin.uservoice.com/forums/276723-general-suggestions-feedback/suggestions/7340609-set-up-a-cauldron-server-using-nerd-s-bukkit-plugi https://nerd-headadmin.uservoice.com/forums/276723-general-suggestions-feedback/suggestions/7363408-a-nerd-nu-created-modpack-that-includes-all-of-the

Thank you, Barlimore. I agree with the general sentiment you've expressed. As I voted in this poll my interpretation of the question was not necessarily whether it would fully stop abuse of powers on its own (which can manifest in more ways than solely censorship), but whether it would contribute to the process of prevention, whether it would act as a substantial deterrent. If the poll did not already have so many votes i would probably go back and change the wording from "preventing" to "deterring" to be more precise, but I think, at least in my mind, the meaning is essentially the same. I do not ask if public moderation logs will prevent abuse of power with finality, but whether it is a useful tool for that end. I think it can be a very useful tool for transparency, for accountability, and for deterring misconduct. I think it is democratizing. Again, I don't see this as a substantial issue on /r/mcpublic currently - our subreddit has the most developed moderation bureaucracy I've been privileged to be a part of, and our mods are all quite professional. Mistakes happen, but that's life. I believe that with a tool like this, it will only help to contribute that much more to the trust that the community has in its chosen stewards, and to help identify mistakes and correct them with minimal fuss.

I recently had a discussion with a user on Reddit named go1dfish who maintains the /r/uncensorship, /r/POLITIC, and /r/ModerationLog subreddits, and I shared with him a method I discovered to easily generate public moderation logs for subreddits who wish for transparency and accountability. Being the awesome guy that he is, go1dfish whipped up a website to make the logs easy on the eyes, and helped set up a wiki page on my /r/publicmodlogs subreddit to make it super simple to add new subreddits. Long story short, it's easier than ever for a community on Reddit to have transparency and accountability, and all you have to do is have a moderator send an invite to /u/publicmodlogs to become a moderator of a subreddit, granting it NO permissions (so that all the account can do is view the moderation logs). Then anyone can view the log of subreddit actions taken at https://modlog.github.io, or viewing an RSS feed generated by reddit itself. Example here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Morrowind/about/log/.rss?feed=c7b83b457469643f1912d5fee30e18dba808f351&user=publicmodlogs As a moderator on the /r/mcpublic subreddit, I can attest that not much really happens there in the logs of any significance to the public - occasionally someone tries to advertise a server, or someone posts a personal attack that gets removed - basic rule violations. I must admit my belief is not that /r/mcpublic absolutely needs this, and my intention here is not really to promote drama or to rabblerouse, but moreso to promote the notion of and adoption of public moderator logs more broadly on Reddit, with /r/mcpublic and nerd.nu standing firm with the principles of transparency and accountability, to lead other communities by example in the hopes of strengthening online communities everywhere. So, what do you, the nerd.nu community, think about this? edit: subreddit post that links to this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/mcpublic/comments/35wcg3/transparency_and_accountability_what_does_the/ edit2: I've written up a fairly complete explanation of how the process go1dfish and I have setup works on /r/publicmodlogs here: https://www.reddit.com/r/publicmodlogs/comments/360amy/so_how_does_this_public_moderation_logs_thing/ for anyone who is interested in the details.

Noticed that some posts were moved to the archives last night. Thanks! Here's what remains on my list:

Mildly relevant discussion recently published from the admin forum: https://nerd.nu/forums/topic/2772-alt-account-banning-policy/ Still waiting to see the posts I made about mass ban amnesty, and the standalone ban policy overhaul post, as well as the admin meeting notes/comments discussing these subjects (including the discussions that it would be trivial to set up a CommandHelper script to handle temp bans and the plan to set that up as an interim solution until mcbouncer rolls out temp bans themselves).

I am Mumberthrax. Feel free to Ask Me Anything.
Mumberthrax replied to Mumberthrax's topic in The Archives
Let me see if I understand what you are asking... If there were a poison gas applied by mumbling, would "mumberthrax" sound like it? Or are you asking if "mumberthrax" sounds like a word that might be used to refer to such a gas? Well I don't know what this hypothetical gas would sound like, as I've never heard the sounds that gases like that make. I have heard sounds that other gases make under certain circumstances, not neccesarily poisonous ones (and definitely none that are applied through the process of mumbling), so if I assume that this poison gas sounds much like other gases, then i guess I have something to work from. Knowing this, I decided to review some sounds gases made on various youtube videos, just to have a sort of baseline for comparison. Here's what I found: Hearing all of these, I feel i have at least some basis on which I can imagine what a poison gas like what you describe would sound like under various circumstances. Since you ask about the gas itself, and not the process through which it is delivered/applied (namely, mumbling), I imagine that I don't have to take into account the sound of that delivery process in my assessment, so I haven't looked up the sounds of mumbling on youtube or elsewhere, nor overlaid them using that youtubedoubler site like i did with the first two videos. So now back to the question, would such a poison gas sound like "mumberthrax"? Well, when I say aloud the word "mumberthrax", it is something quite unlike most of the gas sounds in any of the videos I found. The closest would probably be the morgan freeman helium gas video, where morgan expelled the gas through his mouth, speaking as he did so. Helium on its own, like many gases, is toxic in sufficient quantities (run everyone, he said the T word!), so I suppose that video is a pretty good one to focus on. Not once did morgan say the word "mumberthrax" or anything quite similar to it. So based on all of this research and sophisticated logic, by my first interpretation of your question I would have to say in response: generally no. By my second interpretation of your question, I could see someone using such a word to describe a gas and delivery method you describe in fiction, like comic books or some other slightly silly literature. I wouldn't consider a particularly good word for the gas, nor particularly funny. But it would be a better term than, for example, "Susan" or "otorhinolaryngology" in my opinion. As for your second question, well, I guess you mean the best name for a poison gas delivered by mumbling? I would think "mumblethrax" would be superior, or babblegas or something. Mumber isn't mumble, the "-er-" part sticks out badly in that context. -
Alright, I can understand that. I guess for me it feels like an injustice was committed, and that you're just trying to cover it up. Like, I feel betrayed, if that makes any sense. The notion of it all being laid out for public accountability is appealing to me for those reasons. I'm not sure how we can have accountability without the potential for drama. I think mistakes were made, and it disappoints me greatly that there is no apology or acknowledgment of those mistakes, or explanation for how they even came to be. Perhaps this is a personal issue that I will have to accept there is no restitution for, and from which to move on. I guess everyone involved will just have to be accountable to their own conscience and integrity. In any case, I hope that you will release the other forum posts as well for the benefit of the community. I don't recall any personal or private information on any of the ones I mentioned in my list, except maybe one or two banned users being mentioned in the ban evasion discussion. It should not take over a month to look through a few posts and see if there's anything that ought to be removed, and if not then toss them one-by-one into the archives.

This is not entirely accurate. You and the other head admins stated that we were no longer to be sadmins, seemingly out of the blue, and relegated us to a sort of limbo admin position. It was after this that I requested Slide remove my staff permissions in protest of the way we were treated. Mrloud reached out to us after this speaking unofficially and invited us to return as sadmins, and TheAcademician and I accepted the terms - which were almost the exact same as the situation we had before you announced to us we would be removed. the only question was whether the other head admins would agree. You all decided you did not want us as sadmins, and mrloud informed me of this. I respect that you must attempt to save face, but it is dishonorable to bend the truth in this manner. I'm sorry. I hope that you'll forgive me if I say this seems at least partially disingenuous. Perhaps you would consider releasing the discussions to myself and Aca privately, and we can determine if publishing the information would be preferable? I particularly would like to see the post(s) about the matter created *after* we no longer had staff permissions. I just remembered I'd like to add another item to my request list: The post I made regarding a mass ban amnesty in the admin forum. If you'd add that one in there, I'd appreciate it.

So I was looking at the process that the Freedom of Information legislation in the US stipulates, and it sounds like in the case of interacting with federal agencies the FOI requests are generally expected to be as specific as possible about which documents/files are sought. Bearing this in mind, I've decided to be more specific about the forum posts I'd like to see made public. I'd like the full contents of the following posts, as well as all comments made on them to be made public: The posts announcing admin meetings, and delineating the agendas of admin meetings since December, including the comments before the meetings and the comments after the meetings. The post scherererer made relating to alternate minecraft servers, specifically minigame server, modded minecraft server, and "adventure" server, including all comments made on that post. The post TheAcademician made about land claim policy on PvE in the admin forum The post that I made about seeking admin input regarding suggestions made to the sadmins for revising S The post TheAcademician made seeking moderator input on suggestions and ideas for revising S Any and all posts relating to the matter of the removal of myself as sadmin The post created by mrloud (if i recall correctly) regarding policy for bans for ban evasion using alt accounts The post I created about an overhaul of ban policy Any posts which discuss any of the suggestions submitted to the head admin uservoice page The Mass Ban Amnesty post that I created in the admin forum. Hopefully having this list will make the process of releasing posts publicly to be more simple and swift. edit: added mass ban amnesty post to the list

I usually have a web browser, video game, or file browser open on my screen. It's rare for me to even view my desktop background. When i want system information, i open sysinternals process explorer and view it there. edit: that said, yours does look pretty neat! Did you design that or was it a configuration you found online?

Separate Sub-Forums for P, S, and C?
Mumberthrax replied to Blockbuster's topic in Minecraft General
There is the search page here: https://nerd.nu/forums/index.php?app=core&module=search&search_in=forums where you can type "survival" or "pve" or "creative" or "events" or "policy" or "notice" or "other" into the tag field, and it will return posts filtered by those tags. It is not the most user friendly interface compared to having separate forum sections for those seeking to view only those specific filtered posts. -
Blockbuster's NERDPack Technic Modpack - Survival Edition
Mumberthrax replied to Blockbuster's topic in Minecraft General
Here is the current official list of mods that are approved or disallowed on survival: http://www.redditpublic.com/wiki/List_of_approved_client_mods I found that ingameinfomxml, journeymap fairplay edition, optifine, schematica, playerAPI + togglesneak (the one from the hcfactions subreddit) were pretty handy for playing on S. as a moderator, I also used watson and worldeditCUI. I still use watson for the highlighting feature so i can see when my name is mentioned in chat if I'm not paying close attention. With watson installed if i recall correctly it can conflict with one of the keybinds for togglesneak on the default settings, so if that's still an issue it probably needs tweaking. previously i used status effect HUD and armorstatusHUD, but the features from those are now performed by ingameinfoxml. The one change from default I would recommend for ingameinfoxml is to move the player's name from the top center to somewhere else, since it gets in the way of the text from a wither or dragon health bar, which is sometimes used to convey information to players on some servers. edit: notenoughitems is handy for looking up recipes in-game, but its one of those things you don't use that often in vanilla - just for rarely used things like tripwire hooks. edit2: if there are other mods that anyone knows about that would be good to permit on S. i encourage you to mention them here and to post about it in the survival suggestion thread or the uservoice page that few people ever visit because it's off on another site, or message a few of the sadmins. -

Well there have been a lot of additions I wanted for S that haven't been implemented for one reason or another - though I don't know that it was feasibility that prevented them, nor a lack of time. Back when I was first made sadmin I wanted to add in some pre-generated dungeons using the Roguelike dungeons mod to generate them. The other sadmins were unconvinced, and we never did it. When i returned from my hiatus and talked with the sadmins at the time, we agreed then that adding custom dungeons would be desirable, and had planned to add them in rev 28 but with redwall moving to tech and TheAcademician and I being removed as Sadmins, that sadly did not happen. There were many other really fun changes that we had in store for rev 28 that I would have loved to have seen happen on S, but que sera sera. Egreth, by far. It was a lot of fun showing people that a city could work on S. It didn't turn out as ideally as I had hoped, but it was really cool. Many people have begged me to work toward building it again but it isn't something that I really have had time for. My favorite aspect of that project was the sheer number of people who supported it, who helped out with building, supplies, constructing their own buildings in the city, and allying with us. We had a board where we added the names of as many people as we could who were friends of Egreth and its people, and when i load up the map and look at that board, it really makes me happy to remember the kindness and friendship that was present at that time. Mostly places here in Texas. I think my favorite backpacking trip was at Lake Texoma. If I recall correctly we hiked about 9 miles. Camped out at someplace called dragon ridge or something like that. Another time I went backpacking at Dinosaur Valley state park, near Glen Rose, Tx. That one was less fun, but still pretty awesome. It's been a while since I actually went camping, much less backpacking, and that makes me a bit sad. But I do enjoy it a great deal. I used to go just about once each month with my boy scout troop to camp at various places, scout ranches, state parks, a few times at the national guard armory where we'd do our flour war. Nowadays I don't have those connections, so it's not as easy to find places to go. All of them! For not responding to Aca's post in the admin forums about land claim issues on P! For not making the super simple changes to the rule about pvp areas that I suggested in the uservoice thing yet (stemmed from denial of my lei tai platform arena last P rev :( )! For being better organized than I ever was as an admin! For not having normal speed hoppers when i made a sorting machine two revs ago only to have to demolish it since the timing was fucky! For being handsome devils! I could go on, but i will stop myself here! :O In seriousness though, I don't have a desire to ban any padmins. All of you guys are cool. -

huh. Well that's certainly better than the airhorn version. The video seems a bit silly. Now that I've seen that and re-watched the one you initially linked, I assume that it's just random shitty memes put together. -

Not as far as I am aware. Mumberthrax is the name of a character from the lore of a computer game series called Zork. here's probably the most that's ever been written about him in one spot: http://www.thezorklibrary.com/history/flathead_mumberthrax.html the tl;dr of it is that generally known as Mumberthrax The Insignificant, he is really notable only for the fact that he sired a ton of kids who were quite accomplished in the kingdom/empire, one of whom was basically responsible for pissing off a wizard who cursed the entire family and the kingdom to destruction. Zork was a series of interactive fiction games (also called text adventures sometimes), that is, zero or minimal graphics, primarily a text prompt interface with commands like "go north" or "take the white rabbit" or "steal the jester's nose". It's a woefully undervalued genre in my opinion, and some modern interactive fiction is really quite nice, and writing it is pretty easy with one of the compilers called Inform7 whose code reads like a modified form of english statements. Of the zork series of games, I really only liked Zork Zero and Beyond Zork; zork 1,2 and 3 were not that attention-holding for me.
