  1. Yes, I am saying that *just because* they run so and so plugin, or allow so and so, gives absolutely 0 weight on us allowing them. Now if you want to weigh the actual benefits vs cons, that is fine. But simply saying that they have said feature is absolutely meaningless.

  2. Could you please tell me why you think I mentioned that other servers managed this, and how "we're not other servers" is in any way a rebuttal to this?

Because if others servers do it or not has no bearing on the situation. You can literally use that argument for almost anything, finding some server that does it that way to support your claim, and that in no way is an argument for doing or not doing something.

  3.

This really is one of the weakest things I've heard a staff member say since JA said essentially the same thing, i.e. "we can learn nothing from other servers". What makes MCPublic such a special snowflake that it has to change vanilla gameplay, to the detriment of regular players, where other servers make do just fine?

Where exactly did I say any of that? Again you are trying to fit reality to your own opinions. You stated other servers do things, I stated we aren't those servers. At no point did I make any claims about anything else in regards to being special.

  4. CTF is not representative of regular server play.

In terms of griefing with water/lava, it is exactly like normal game play.

Most other servers, including much larger ones, do not put restrictions on flowing liquids.

    We aren't most other servers.

SafeBuckets was implemented mostly because LogBlock's recording of fluid destruction was weak. It's now much better.

It's still fairly weak and rollbacks are no where near perfect. Griefing large rail sections behind hubs can be extremely hard to correct as the rails don't always come back in their original orientation.

Anyone who says otherwise either has a short memory or is ignorant of the realities.

You like to ignore the reality and substitute your own.

  5. I've gone ahead and kicked off a full update of the live map. In regards to DynMap actually being able to track and update from the WorldEdit and LogBlock. At the moment it doesn't look to be feasible so perhaps a workable solution would be to simply schedule a full update once every week or so.

  6. I'm writing a plugin specifically to log our chat as 1) text log files suck for searching through 2) logblocks chat logging is very basic and 3) to accommodate our setups needs

I suppose private messages and mail could be opt in, but I don't see the reason to add the complexity to that. Clan Chat I imagine should be configurable per channel though.

  7. How would y'all feel about linking the servers chat together? I'm trying to think of the best way to do this and need some feedback.

    1) "Global"/Server Chat - Each server would retain its own "Global" chat which is limited to that servers players.

    2) Private Messages, Mail - Would  work across servers

    3) Clan Chat - Would be configurable per channel?

    4) Tab List - The player list that shows up when you press tab can be made to show either the server you are on, or everyone, I was thinking this could be made toggle-able in game

  8. Just out of interest what would happen if the server you wanted to go to was full? would it just say server full or send you to the lobby?

Once this gets fully setup for the public: it will send you to the lobby server if you are just connected and if you are switching servers you will simply stay on your current server with a message saying its full.

  9. All staff now have access to the new /server command, this will allow you to switch from one server to another without having to disconnect. Currently it is limited to just staff in order to gauge what kind off impact it will have on the servers.

There is also a new lobby server which is currently setup with portals to the other servers. The plan is that when a server restarts or goes down, you are automatically moved to the lobby server and will be able to go through the portal once the server comes back up. This will help to lessen the jarring of restarts as well as prevent the forced disconnects during Mojang auth server failure.

In regards to modding this kind of setup once it goes public, running /server is the exact same thing as if you disconnected from your current server and reconnected to the new one. So combat logging will be handled the exact same way (s admins can clarify at will)

Please test this and let me know of any problems.

    Usage:

    /server lobby|creative|pve|survival

  10. You specific ban is for the following line:

<msunc> fuck yeah im 10 years old you fucking faggot fight me irl

We have a strict "No racism and homophobic language" policy.  Please be aware of this for future times.  I will go ahead and unban as soon as you refresh yourself with the rules at http://nerd.nu/rules and reply back here stating that you understand and will abide by them from now on.  Understand that future instances of this will have a longer ban length attached to it.

  11. Yea, the failed CTF event was supposed to be a test of the lobby system. We still want to implement it, we just need to do another test sometime. What I'm thinking right now is we could either wait until a 1.7 spigot/BungeeCord initial releases and upgrade chaos and add a lobby into it. If that proves to be stable migrate the p and c over to it when they get the upgrade. Or I could potentially setup a small "event" server or something with a lobby for a short period to test it out. Seeing as we have no idea when any 1.7 releases will happen, I'm leaning towards the latter option.

  12. Ban for Protoxyn on c.nerd.nu for rail grief on P nerd.nu/appeal by tompreuss on 2013-05-13 19:55:58 (no more bans, no notes)

Please wait for your banning moderator to respond to your appeal. In the mean time, I recommend that you read our rules. If your banning moderator does not respond within 48 hours, feel free to bump your appeal.

  13. I would like to announce that live maps are now available for both Creative and PvE!

    Creative - Live, Cartograph, Snapshots1

PvE has players hidden by default, to enable simply run: "/dynmap show", to hide yourself again "/dynmap hide"

The regular isometric cartography will still be generated nightly, along with the snapshot images.

1 Apparently the program c10t, used to render the snapshots, doesn't like clay?
