  1. I entirely agree with the first two parts.

The activity page tells me something different. I'd like to at least hear from more people once - telling us that you speak for them, or that they don't want to use the forums.

Toby, this thread was created by gsand to get an idea of changes users would like to see for the next survival revision. Please try to keep your posts inline with what the thread is about.

  2. 'Nerdpaper', oh man I love it already!

That looks like a great start there as well, maybe you can just make a picture perfect layout first as the template and then save it as a pdf or powerpoint or whatevers easiest so if someone else needed to make edits, it's already set for them and when the new issue comes out, it's easier to make instead of having to redraw lines and stuff.

Yeah, I was going to work on figuring out some sort of template. Adjusting it really isnt hard or time consuming though. I'd still like to be flexible with it, depending on how much or little content is there. I was planning on working with pdf's, I think they are easier to read and people can just download it to read whenever.

  3. Just from listening to everyone on the subreddit and forums, its pretty clear to me that we all want a reason to PvP. Even though there are wildly different opinions of where S should be going, the majority of them revolve around generating PvP. Though this rev we aren't trying anything drastically new, there are a few more arena events that should be taking place. Hopefully we can keep up on the arenas this rev, rather than letting them fall apart. I know I will be trying to keep up on them.

As far as changes....I would like to try some unique gameplay ideas. I know a few people have been submitting them. I would also like to see the PvP rebalanced, and I think Gizzletinks has posted a few times about a potion/armor set up that helps balance that.

  4. Not trying to sound like a bother but perhaps make this thread public to allow for community input? As for myself, I'd be willing to assist you with printing if need be.

Is there a way to just move this whole thing over, or do I make a second post?

I've actually been ruminating a bit on an idea like this myself, MCPublic could definitely benefit from a regular newsletter.

Running it would require a lot of effort and collaboration, so hopefully this is something people would be committed to long-term.  Articles, editorials, quotes-of-the-week or something, staff/admin public notices, even comics, etc. are all things the community could contribute, but there would have to be someone prodding everyone for this information and putting it all together.

This is something I would gladly dedicate time to each week. I am working on a sort of layout, and was thinking it could be distributed through a pdf. These files are generally easy to read. If there are people willing to gather up stories and such, that would be really helpful.

Edit: I will post a sample of what I was thinking when its complete

  5. Nope, I didnt miss that! I really enjoyed reading that and thought it was a great idea. I don't mean to step on your toes here. I just thought it'd be nice to have one update for everything, but I definitely don't want to compete with the Taco Tribune.

  6. Hello all,

I'd like to start a sort of newspaper for the nerd community.

Basically, the motivation for this idea is to make sure we keep everyone updated on the stuff going on around here. Its hard for staff that are busy with other things, like setting up revs, to keep everyone informed. So this would hopefully fix that issue.

What I would need from you (admins, techs, staff, community members even) is just a short update (screen shots too!) on what you're working on. It doesn't matter what server its from, as I'd like this to be for all of them, events included. Im willing to do all the work compiling and writing up the stories and posting it in a newspaper type format.

    Any opinions on this idea?

  7. I think that would work alright. I mean, we are banning the player and not the account. Hence why alt accounts are immediately banned and disallowed. So after we have unbanned the player, why is there a point in keeping the alt accounts banned? The player is already back on the servers and I don't see why it matters what account that player is using. However, since alts are generally used for ban evasion, I think it is just to add on extra time until those accounts will be unbanned.

  8. I'm going to have to say I am against this.

There is still a good chance for survival. There are a few really great and unique gameplay ideas out there that we need to try first. Unfortunately, in our first effort to change, we just copied Civcraft. Which was really fun for the first couple weeks, but copying a successful servers game style just isnt going to work. It was also obvious it wasn't going to be a sustainable play style for us, just based off no one being on the server for the last half of the rev. You can argue all you want about it being "successful", but it just was not. Was it a good first step in Survival branching out and trying this new? Absolutely. I know it seems as though this upcoming revision we are just going backwards again, but hopefully this bides us some time to put a real effort into S and try out some of the ideas players have brought to the table.

  9. Unfortunately, they have stated that they are removing "some pvp enchantments" next revision, so it sounds like that part of your suggestion is getting implemented.

Well my idea wasn't to remove them, but to make them more difficult to get and make it so you have to take a risk to get them. It would create pvp and would pro long revisions as players would have to play more to get higher level enchants.

This idea still has enchanting, but instead of using a table, its turned into random loot. Like diz said, its designed to encourage people to play and make hot zones for pvp; Two things that have been severely lacking lately.

  10.

I say this because while I respect the heads, they often forget that even the worst situation can still be openly discussed and worked through, rather than discussed without others ears and then finalized to whatever resolution they find best.  You're a bit new here Dj8 so I wouldn't expect you to know all of the past drama, nor the ways they were solved.  I am simply hoping for some kind of open agreement between the other parties of this issue and find a "peaceful" resolution to say the least.

I may be newer to the staff side of things, but I've been kicking around nerd since S rev 13, so I've been around a while, as well as involved in a revision well known for the massive amount of drama it caused. I dont mean to start a pissing contest here, just clearing things up.

Anyway, I am glad someone has come forth and addressed this publicly and I agree with what you are trying to accomplish here. My point about the "behind the scenes" stuff was that I think a private meeting between the members of this disagreement and a head or two is a good first step. But hey, if this cuts down the drama faster, I'm all for it.
