  1. Something I have always wondered is if we are trying to promote PvP why is the map so large? PvE is 5000x5000 with a player count that far exceeds Survival, yet S is 4000x4000. Has shrinking the map size been given much thought? I would think with a smaller map size people would be closer together allowing for more PvP.

I'm glad you brought this up, it was something I meant to put in my post. If the map was smaller, random spawns would certainly work. The overall density of the players would go up and most likely lead to more PvP.

  2. I actually enjoy the random spawns. However, it does seem to hamper PvP. I'm not convinced it is the sole problem though. Grinding has become tedious again without an xp plump and not everyone has easy access to grinding in the end.

It would be nice to get a little update on how things are coming along though. I haven't heard anything since the beginning of this rev.

  3. I think instead of banning people for combat logging so they have to appeal, just set up the plugin so they're banned for maybe 30 minutes or an hour.

I don't think roastnewt is talking about combat logging. Besides, the player is usually warned a couple times before becoming banned.

I like the idea of some sort of consequence for dying. I definitely agree with there being no incentive to wear armor at the moment.

I think there should be a small deathban only applied during PVP. Maybe 1-5 minutes long? What are other peoples opinion on this?

This sounds good to me. Some sort of consequence just annoying enough to motivate users to not die. Would it be good to have it long be long enough for their items to disappear or short enough to give them a chance? I am leaning towards long enough for the items to disappear.

  4. I think it'd be great to keep up on our youtube channel. Maybe we could designate some volunteers to curate that?

Also, a lot of schools will be getting out soon, so if we can get some advertisements going, we have the potential to get a lot of summer users.

  5. From reading over all the posts, it seems this issue had nothing to do with the players speaking a foreign language. They were spamming chat, English or not, and that is what it comes down to. If they were unwilling to use another method of communicating, it could have been handled by a mod. I don't see any point in making this a rule.

  6. I would like too see nerd look into some of the solutions Mumberthrax provided. Our best option would be to make the language barrier less noticeable rather than fix an issue by eradication.

I still do not think excluding other languages from global chat is a good idea. Yes, on the moderation side, it does create difficulties if you cannot understand what they are saying. However, banning or warning users for not using English in global chat and forcing them to use clan chat seems a bit excessive. As far as I know, we do not get a lot of users who speak languages other than English anyway. Most users from foreign countries, especially Sweden, have studied the English language and should be able to effectively communicate to moderators if need be.

My view on it is that being a primarily English server, something spoken in a different language is going to come off as incomprehensible to well over 90% of the people playing, which I don't really see as any different than spam.

Just because we cannot fully understand something does not mean it is spam. Even in a different language than English, it would still be easy to discern spam from normal conversation based on the speed and repetitiveness of the messages.

  7. Chaos will become stale too, and you'll ask for the next rev to come sooner. If that isn't substantially different from this rev it'll become stale too, and have low player numbers. Maybe it would be better to enjoy this part of the rev, and see if people stick around because you're enjoying it?

The reason chaos is being brought up is because the rev has gone stale. Hop onto S sometime and check it out for yourself. Rarely are there over 5 people on at any given time. Rotating through old chaos maps will keep things fresh. It is always exciting to revisit past builds.

  8. I see the "Don't know" vote as a throwaway vote. It brings some balance to the system. There are players nominated that only play on one of our three servers, and you cannot expect someone you have not interacted with to trust you enough to give a solid yes. Even if you disregard what server they play on the majority of time, it can still be hard to meet every mod due to time differences.

As far as how it should be weighted toward the final decision, I'm not sure. I don't necessarily view it as a negative vote towards a player and it also gives them the opportunity to reach out to other parts of the community and get to know more users.

I trust the staff to make informed, well thought out decisions on who is responsible enough to handle modship.  I encourage that those that do 'no' under this 3 vote system provide additional information to supplement their reasoning, probably in a private setting as is typically done.

I am not sure how the current system handles "No" votes, but I agree that it should come with some sort of feedback. If there is a reason a mod is voting "No", it is important enough for the rest of the staff to be informed of as well. Of course, this is assuming no one is voting "No" just because they personally dislike the candidate.

  9. Every time I'm in mumble or talk to any S player all I hear are complaints about the sadmins and how they're screwing up the server, whereas the sadmins are doing what they can to create the community the players want. It just seems like that effort is never good enough for a select group of players, who seem to be able to find negativity in everything.

I've been bringing friends of mine over from P now that things are winding down to play on S to try and boost the community, but honestly I don't know why I'm trying when all I'm bringing them to is a bitter and jaded server. The community was screwed up way before I posted a comment on the forums, so don't try to pin it on me.

    I'm usually the one who's trying to calm everyone down, but the petty complaining about everything is wearing a bit thin. How about instead of complaining about times which work for ALL involved and not just America, everyone just calms their farms and concentrate on getting their voices heard? The behaviour I've personally witnessed is counter-productive.;

First off, there was no place for your original post in this thread. It is completely off-topic and hindering what is trying to be done here.

I was not trying to pin every community issue on you, however, just because the community is "screwed up" does not mean you have to contribute negatively to it. I have played on S since I started playing on nerd. There are plenty of us that care about S and would like to see it flourish. Posts directed negatively towards S and its community, like yours, are based off a generalization that has been spread. Are there players that are not nice? Yes. Can they be annoying and disruptive? Yes. Should you use those players, who are in the minority, to generalize about the whole servers community? No. You may not have started this, but you certainly are not doing anything to lessen the rift between each server community.

I am not sure why you are claiming that we are trying to ostracize players who are not in the United States. The whole point of different meeting times is to try and include as many users as possible. In fact, to my knowledge, the user that brought up the time concern is not even from the USA.

In no way am I trying to discourage you from taking part in this meeting. It is an open meeting for everyone, and hearing opinions from everyone can help find solutions to these issues. I am only asking that if you chose to be involved in this discussion, you do it in a matter that is productive and not insulting to those trying to work out these issues.

In order to keep this thread on its intended topic, I would like to ask you to pm me any further responses. I am happy to continue this discussion with you if need be, and I do hope you are not taking my comments as a personal attack.

  10. Really? You guys need to get your shit together and stop bitching about everything.

There really is no reason for this comment at all. MrLoud has organized this meeting so we can DISCUSS changes and such towards Survival. I do not know what motivated you to reply to this topic and insult every active user that cares about Survival. This is the type of inter-community behavior that is hurting every nerd.nu server.

    Now, back on topic.

The list looks well represented in all issues brought up. With so many issues present and (hopefully) lots of opinions from users being brought up, will the meeting have time restrictions for each topic or segment?

  11. If my name changed to djtpls, how many diamonds could I expect from you on a monthly basis?

When do you play on S?

Do you think negative connotations (e.g. "toxic", "shantyclones") towards Survival spread around by the nerd.nu community have hurt its player base?

What is your favorite type of taco?

On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate my 'stache? 10 being excellent, 1 being scrubby.

  12. Thanks for the replies everyone!

First off, I'd like to say I'm not bashing our current set up. I do enjoy Enchantism, but I feel like we may have become too spoiled. Hopefully it doesn't seem like I'm trying to force feed you my ideas, I'm just looking for discussion :)

Thank you roastnewt for explaining the new 1.8 system. I had completely forgotten about the changes they are making to enchanting. I agree that we should wait until 1.8 to consider tweaking our current enchanting setup. It sounds as though this could allow for a middle ground between the current vanilla system and enchantism.

Tobylane, while most of what you said is true, most of the users on S never have to set up a grinder. A few people will set up one in the end and within a week or less, its fully functional. Even before the xp plump and the max level was down to 30, end grinders have been extremely fast. They are also kept accessible for all players. Also, you are able to enchant books and combine those enchants with armor/weapons/tools with an anvil, and not wasting any ores.

Elephant_Parade, taking away plugins on the server will not make it more hostile to play on. It is the attitude of the joining users and the attitude of the the community towards them that creates a hostile environment. We can give away diamonds to everyone, but that wont make it a fun and happy place.

Tharine, I do have to agree with your argument. As someone who played alone last revision, enchantism was a great help. In my pre-enchantism experiences on nerd, I was never part of a large clan (unless 3-4 people counts). I do remember the lengths it took to get decent gear. However, we now have anvils to allow us to combine enchantments. We can also enchant books, so our weapons/armor/tools are not stuck with bad enchantments on our diamond items. As roastnewt pointed out, 1.8 may provide us with a nice middle ground.

  13. For a bit now, enchanting on survival has been extremely easy. It started out with xp plumps, then /unenchant and now Enchantism.

These are all great things, but how would everyone feel about reverting to a vanilla enchant system? This would get rid of /unenchant and Enchantism. Having these plugins allows for everyone to create perfect armor, weapons and tools much faster. This was implemented to level the playing field for all users. However, I think we have gotten to a point where it may be too level and far too easy. With the vanilla system, getting perfect gear was a challenge and took time, keeping users on the server longer. Now we are able to create "god" gear in under 10 minutes and I think this is hurting the overall game play.

    Any other thoughts?
