  1. I believe the whole community should be able to have a say in every decision, and this needs to be written. I do not mean that all players get to vote on who they want to be staff, but they should be able to suggest and comment on who they think would be best for the role. I also believe that they should be able to say if they don't think a player is suitable for a staff position, whether it be mod, admin or head. I think server admins should have equal 'authority' and say to tech admins, if not more. Recently they seem to have had more say in all issues than all players but the heads. Fair enough they should be able to have the final say in technical problems and ideas, but not regarding bans (unless they banned them) or staff promotions. Althought I don't want to take this thread off topic, I will briefly comment on this. Barneygale's original ban was completely deserved, everyone knows that. However his most recent ban appeal and thread on the subreddit were not handled at all well. Petty comments and arguments coming from the staff is the last thing you should expect from players who are thought to be the more 'mature'. Everyone's opinion should be respected, no matter what relationship you have with the player. With contentious bans, there shouldn't be votes from anyone. It should be handled by staff only, however anyone in the community should be able to give their opinions on what they think should happen to the player through private message to the staff handling the appeal. Both parties should be able to give their sides of the argument in the appeal, it shouldn't be closed prematurely before all questions have been answered and a fair decision has been made.
  2. Please stop referring to it as 'we'. Clearly there are many players who care about that post, with almost 200 comments, do you really think we don't care?
  3. I just meant the post shouldn't be ignored. Tolgar mentioned that some people would disregard the post purely because of who it was posted by. The ones responding worst to the post in the comments was a few of the more powerful staff. I didn't phrase it too well, may have seemed as if I'm trying to have a dig at some people, sorry about that.
  4. There are only a few people who will wrongly disregard the post, unfortunately they appear to be the people in power. As graymansnel commented on the subreddit - "if he is barneygale or not, it doesn't matter at all. He made a statement and it needs to be taken as seriously as a head admin saying it. Nerd it corrupt because the individual isn't taken seriously." Everything said in the main post was completely true, had proof and just highlighted how nerd is still going downhill. It doesn't matter who posted it, it needs to be acted on. Whether they had good intentions or not affects nothing. Many very good points were raised and it's clearly something the community feels strongly about.
  5. In the subreddit post, there were a lot of comments from everyone saying what they want to see happen, what they want to see changed. Now I'd like to see the response from the staff and what they're going to do about it.
  6. It wasn't about anyone really, but there have been a few occasions where it's happened. Thanks for answering :)
  7. This must have taken quite a while... Great work, Tharine! :D I won't comment on everything, but here are my opinions on a few of the topics. I think land claims are handled pretty well at the moment, and I haven't seen any circumstances where there should need to be any change. There was an incident where the player who had their land claimed over was unsure of what was going on as it seemed it wasn't clearly explained to them by a member of staff, so maybe this could be worked on in the future? Apart from that, I believe that the current request system works very well. The base camping results are split directly down the middle because it's the base campers vs. those being camped. Basically, people need to grow up and realise when they're overstepping the line. It's true that base camping can occasionally encourage PvP, but in this past revision it has been the case that players have been base camping just to annoy and frustrate another player. We shouldn't be wasting staff time with petty things like this. Players need to be more mature. If it gets to the point where a staff member has to get involved, I think it should be after about 5-10 minutes of camping. Punishments would always start with a warning, and could in extreme circumstances end up with a ban. Enderpearl cooldown also received a split response. Again I believe this is players who use pearls to escape fights vs. players who use them to chase down others. I am in favour for this to be implemented, just a 2-3 second cooldown. It would stop players from spamming pearls to get away from a fight, but still allow you to evade fights if you use them well enough. It would eliminate glitching, although admittedly it hasn't been a problem in the recent revision. Logging in combat has always been a problem, there is no doubt about that. I would be happy to see a plugin implemented, however I can think of a few issues with it that I think should be considered. The biggest problem I can see is lagging out in the middle of a fight. I am probably a little biased about this as I have very bad lag issues, but I don't think it would be fair if a player lagged out in what would have been a fair fight. Another issue would be being hit by a friend (or anyone really) just as you log out without realising, and you lose everything you had on you. This is something that can't really be avoided with a combat logging plugin, but would be a downside. I think having a first-join protection timer would be a great idea. I think 1 hour would be a good amount of time to get people settled without them abusing their protected time. I think that they should be able to terminate their protection with a command. I was going to suggest that their protection be broken if they try to attack someone, however this has it's flaws. For example, the player may not know that it would be terminated if they attack people. I do not think that players need any sort of PvP protection for every respawn. I haven't seen spawn camping be a problem for many revisions, and there are ways that the player can stop it from happening, i.e. leaving spawn a different way.
  8. I agree with you, IDANUB. Something definitely needs to change if we want PvP to continue being a key feature of the Survival server. Minecraft was never designed for PvP, and it seems with every update it has been getting worse and worse. Of course it was not designed with PvP in mind, but that doesn't mean we should abandon all hope of having fun PvP. Many people enjoy it, so we should look in to changes to make it better. An idea brought up a few weeks ago was to put a cap on certain enchantments such as protection, sharpness to make it easier to get armour and make fights fairer. However this probably wouldn't work as well now with the new update (although I have not tested). I really think we need a meeting on mumble discussing changes, even if it's not an official thing. We tried to get something going with the google document but it was forgotten soon after. Edit: Sorry if anything doesn't make sense, wasn't properly concentrating.
  9. Some staff have been biased against certain groups of players. They're not setting a good example as a staff members, what will be done about it? I don't want to use names or go full depth here, but if this were happening, what would be done? (Copy and paste from the meeting)
  10. I'd like to see new people given a chance if it's only a minor offence. If someone breaks a rule, I've always thought it be better to speak to them about it first if it is something like griefing. If it does come to banning a player, that the banning staff member tells them what they've done wrong. I saw an appeal a few days ago where the player was unbanned straight away, even though they stated that they didn't know what they had done wrong. However, this shouldn't excuse new people from breaking the rules. They should read them and abide by them just like anyone else, but we shouldn't try to drive them away. Any player can be a good player.
  11. If a player is doing everything they can to kill the person leaving spawn, then that is spawn camping. If they have been killed a few times whilst trying to lure or tempt the killer in anyway, it is not spawn camping imo, as happened yesterday with you, teddy.
  12. I'm not really sure of the point of this thread. If you're asking for armour and effect HUDs to be allowed, I believe they already are. Other than that, I think that all of the mods that are and aren't allowed are pretty clearly stated, and there is no need to change them. I don't think we need to look at every mod made to say whether it should or shouldn't be allowed. However, if you are unsure whether the mod(s) you are using are allowed, always check first. It's pretty simple, and far less hassle and work than it seems you are making it.
  13. Although what you say is true, Luke, there are always way to make it better. Minecraft isn't a game for designed for PvP, but people enjoy it anyway. And there are some things that haven't been tried yet. Realistically, we'll never have the presence that we once had, nor will we have the amount of players that we did in the earlier revisions of Survival. You raise some very good points about not really having a specific aim of what we want to be, and I think that really needs to be figured out for any real progress to be made. This is going to have to happen eventually if we want the Survival server to stay. We shouldn't jump straight in and become, for example, a factions server, but I think we need to start pulling away from vanilla minecraft.
  14. Righto, so there was some good feedback from that poll that was posted (thanks!) and now that we've established what the main problems are, we need to find out how we're going to solve them. As expected, lag had the most votes and is the main problem. There's been a bit of lag around for ages, but I think just recently it has been far worse. I'm no fountain of knowledge, so I don't know what could help this right now, but I'm fairly certain that if there were to be a donation drive (to help raise funds towards better server hosting) then that could help towards stopping the lag which so many are experiencing across all servers. The second most voted for was advertising. There are already some good steps being taken towards this, with the new server promo video, but that won't bring in enough players alone. If people would be willing to, I think that there could be some good PvP montages made by the community. So if you have any recordings of PvP, then maybe we could arrange something to make it into a neat video of some of the best fights on this server? There will need to be other means of advertising apart from videos, but this is a good start. Staff and moderation was voted pretty highly too. When I put this option in, I was thinking about having Survival staff to know what they're looking for when someone is accused of PvP hacks, whether it's aimbot, radar etc. There was quite a bit of drama with PvP this revision and accusations, and I feel that if the staff knew exactly what they were looking for, then it could have been stopped early on. I think it would also help if more of the staff went PvPing more often. They'd probably experience the hacking instead of just watching it, so that they know who to look out for. As an additional note, I think staff should be trusted more. There have been several occasions where a mod has seen someone log in combat, for example, but only been allowed to add a note. I think the rules need to be updated too. There are a few that need to be made clearer, especially the 'Don't be a dick' and doxing rules. I think they are the two that I have seen be misunderstood be players, and if they were remade, then some of the unnecessary drama would be stopped. Clans and enchantments were the two that had fewest votes. Despite this, I think that some changes here could be good. There has been an idea passed around to have a cap on protection on armour. The highest protection would be II, and swords, bows and potions (and anything else that directly effects PvP) would be nerfed accordingly. I think this could work really nicely for many reasons. Gear would be easier to get, it would level the playing field allowing anyone to PvP for little cost. You're not risking too much, which is what many people are afraid of. You can regain your lost items relatively easily and you won't have to spend hours re-enchanting at the highest level. That's just my overview of what should change. If you could follow to format below (just for ease of comparing results) that would be wicked! :D 1) What do you want to see changed about the lag, and how should we go about it? 2) What steps do you want to take to advertise the servers? 3) What do you think should be changed with staff and moderation, and how do you think we should go about it? 4) What rules would do you think should be changed, added or removed? Why? 5) Is there anything you want to change about clans? Why? 6) Is there anything you want to change about enchantments? Why? Any additional notes are welcome! But yeah, discuss! Thanks a lot, TornadoHorse :)
  15. Isn't that all fighting is in any game, trying to hit the other person without trying to be hit? Blatantly minecraft wasn't build with PvP in mind, but people still enjoy doing it and there is plenty that we can do to make that experience better. If we were to get rid of lag, advertise to bring in a few more players, I reckon the server would have around 40-50 people on at all times. What is the point if you're not striving to improve?
  16. Instead of making suggestions for next revision, we should first figure out what the things are that we want to change. Then we can think of what needs to be changed and go about it in a far more organised way. I added a few areas in the poll, but if you have any other ideas, feel free to comment with them :)
  17. What's the furthest distance you've ever gone on you bike in one trip? What's been your favourite route on your bike? Is there a particular ride that you wish to do at some point? (I love biking too, so I'd be interested to hear anything you have to say about it!)
