  1. Next revision I'm hoping to be able to plan some community events toward the start of the rev, such as Speedbuild, Spleef, perhaps some PvP tournaments, but I can't promise anything.

I have jack-shit clue about where to start, but if it's pulled off well enough we could get some serious player participation and, y'know, give players a reason to stay.

If you want any help I'd be happy to lend a hand! I don't think these events should be daily, however, since there's a risk of them losing their novelty factor and we don't want the C server to be all about the events, players have to have time for their own builds too.

  2. A Couple people on the subreddit mentioned this, but given how good many of the lobbies are, would you consider setting up a rotation of the top 5 or so lobbies?  It'd almost be a waste to only do one and not show off the talent of our players.

It could get confusing for players if the hub is always changing. I don't know how possible it'd be to do this from a tech point of view, either. We could change the hub world every 3 or so months but having different maps any more frequent than that wouldn't be a good idea imo. It's great that there were so many good entries, but that's the point of a competition, to decide the best.

  3. For almost every revision that I can remember there has been some form of public arena on Survival. This map we have used it more than others due to it being more practical than the designated events arena. We received a mixed reaction at the start of the map when a public arena wasn't included but since then we've made use of the several public arenas build by Unce and Mrloud. How would you like to see Public Arenas made in the new revision?

  4. Guys i downvoted u as youre not thinking this through

    think about it.. guns man.

Yo, don't be like that. It might be a cool novelty to have something like that, but it'd become stale very quickly. It wouldn't provide any real positive for creative, and would probably cause more problems than it solves. We're always open for new ideas but you've gotta be prepared for some criticism. Use that criticism to build on your idea, don't be bitter about it :)

  5. Apparently I was logged into this and in the DJ wait list for a couple of days without my knowledge. Whoops. I'll make sure that doesn't happen next time.

Yeah, I think you have to manually leave the DJ list when you close the page, too. I accidentally stayed there playing the same song for about 5 hours. Wooooops :P

  6. If you feel you're being bullied or players are being excessively disruptive, contact a member of staff via /modreq or /msg'ing them if they're online. If you need to cooldown and be away from it for a moment, take a break. Have some time to chill off so you don't get yourself in trouble by responding negatively. Hopefully circumstances like this won't occur in the future, but if they do then do the things that I mentioned above and we'll be able to handle the situation appropriately. :)

  7. I don't think it should be anything formal like a ban appeal. That's just adding a whole new process that could probably done without imo. What is the purpose of a note? My understanding of it is that it's not as a warning to the player, but a reference for us to know what they've done in the past to aid us in how we deal with future circumstances. Getting rid of recent notes seems to me like it eliminates the purpose of a note. What about after a certain amount of time has passed (6+ months?) that the note can be removed providing that sort of behaviour hasn't been repeated?

  8. Hullo!

Recently on Survival I've heard of quite a few people successfully trying to get their notes removed. I've checked through the rules page and couldn't see anything on adding or removing notes, is there an unwritten policy on this?

The circumstances where I've seen this happen have been with fairly high profile players with 6+ notes. The majority of their notes have been legitimate, and without them it takes a lot longer to find out who has done what. A player came to me today asking whether they'd be able to have some of their notes removed due to them being from when they very first joined the server, the notes for minor things such as "minor grief on S - cauldron". I don't think there's too much harm in removing notes like this, however I don't think that important notes should really ever be removed.

What do you all think about this?

  9. Survival already lacks PvP almost entirely not including arenas, in my opinion. Making potions and ender pearls difficult to obtain would fully eliminate PvP. Not to mention the countless players that would quit.

Before we had plugins such as enchantism and XP plump gear for PvP was a lot more difficult to get, it was a huge grind to even get 1 set to fight with. There was a lot less PvP because usually you'd be risking everything you had (armour etc.). To counteract we added plugins that cut out a huge chunk of the grind to get armour, we felt since everyone would have easier access to the best armour that it might spark some life back into PvP.

Please hear me out as I'm not trying to be short or rude, but a large fraction of the player base on Survival prefer PvP heavily. This server has always been PvP heavy/oriented. MCPublic hosts a server that sounds much more like your style, PvE. The severe altering or changing of the Survival to cater to the type that prefers minimal PvP has been the source of many past conflicts. In fact, PvE was created for those types of players.

Survival hasn't always been focused on PvP. When this server was very new it was a mix between PvE and Survival, with PvE zones iirc. Shortly after that when the PvE server came up we became more like a true Survival server, but there definitely wasn't any aim to be a PvP server. It was only until around revisions 13-14 that we began to take a greater interest in PvP due to 2 reasons, the SAdmins at the time and how more of the playerbase were interested in PvP, things like killstreaks and a PvP leaderboard were added. We are known as the PvP server because we have PvP enabled, not because that's all that happens here. We are a Survival server and I don't think we're too heavily PvP based at all. The 2 plugins that were added, enchantism and XP plump, give an advantage to everyone on the server, not just PvPers. I think that goes the same for the majority of the plugins we add since we don't want to change the server just to suit someone's taste.

  10. Decapitation adds no value whatsoever for someone who simply mines and farms, not really going out of their way to get into trouble.

It doesn't take away anything from those kinds of players, either. What would you suggest to solve this, if it even is a problem?

Killstreak rewards mean non-PVPers cannot even run away while trying to get to a portal.

Personally I'm not bothered about the killstreaks buffs we have. They don't offer enough of an advantage to be worthwhile, I'd much rather see killstreaks go back to how they used to be with just a message in chat. There aren't too many players that go around killing anything they see, if there are, avoid them. You get a speed boost for a few seconds. Unless you're actively being hunted down and you're a few blocks away from the attacker, this provides no advantage.

Pearl cooldown, again, hinders players even when they are trying to espace a fall, or a lake of lava (a fraction of a second delay is all it takes when you're dealing with lava, and you miss your first shot).

This has not been enabled yet and is still in the discussion phase. The first discussion thread can be found here, however this thread will soon be locked. There is a second poll up here that you can vote on and give your opinion.

Players enjoy PvPing. Those who don't are not forced to, but are presented with the opportunity to be able to do so. The few plugins that we do have that change PvP enhance the experience with little to no difference for players who don't want to be affected. If you feel things are unbalanced offer a solution to balance it back out, we're always open to discuss new ideas.

  11. Okay, 1 week has passed since this was setup and this is what the voting tells us:

    • Opinions are pretty balanced but with a few more in favour of having a enderpearl cooldown than not.
    • The length of the cooldown is also very evenly balanced, so if we went ahead with this that would need some more discussion.
    • Good points have been presented for both the pros and cons of enabling a cooldown.

What do you think about having a short trial period where we enable a cooldown?

  12. Welcome to nerd.nu! If you connect to nerd.nu in game then you'll be sent to our lobby. From there you can go through any of the 4 portals open: Creative, Event, PvE and Survival.

Creative: Creative mode is enabled, it's a completely open world with no plots so you can build whatever you want (that abides by the rules) at pretty much any scale you want. There's been a few changes to creative recently which can be found here.

Event: This server won't be up all of the time, as the name suggests it'll only be used for special events such as fund raising weeks or occasional server contests. Currently we're hosting a lobby map contest, details can be found here.

PvE: An incredibly friendly and welcoming server, here you'll be in survival mode but with PvP disabled (there are some PvP zones though). You could join a city and become part of a really great community.

Survival: PvP enabled in survival mode. Build huge bases to defend yourself from opponents or gather, mine and brew PvP supplies to attack! But it's not all about the fighting. You're not obliged to attack anyone, but watch out for people coming to attack you!

Whatever server you choose, make sure you've read the rules. Enjoy it, respect everyone, have fun! :D

    • Not having the plugin does make it harder for someone to track where the last pearl landed, but its not impossible.
    • It doesn't "stop" you per se, but it does hinder you from using pearls normally. If I throw a bad pearl and hit a side of a tall object i'm gong to have 3+ second delay before I can throw my second pearl and stop my fall to my death. Also in PvP I can throw a pearl to eat/refill bar with pots if I make a bad throw here and end up close to my opponent with hunger bar lowered and no health pots on the bar I'm very much likely to lose the fight.
    • Adding a plugin to prevent people from pearling away from a fight, but also have it so you can pearl away from a fight? This plugin just makes it easier to kill someone, giving an advantage to a player who already has the upper hand in the fight and a disadvantage to the other.
    • This is a Survival server, the objective should be to survive.

We want this plugin to be implemented so you can't just spam pearls in every direction making it impossible to track you down. You'll still be able to pearl away from the fight without being followed, it'll just be a bit harder.

2 That's a fair point, but that's why I think that having a 3 second delay would be good. In all likelihood you'll still be able to throw a second pearl as most of the 3 seconds is taken up whilst the first pearl is travelling.

It's not to prevent pearling away from a fight, just to prevent enderpearl spam so the opponent has a chance of following you.

4 I'm not sure what this has to do with the suggested plugin.

  13. More WE capabilities? (outlining circles)

    Flyspeed?

Allowing Roleplay back in general chat

Flowing water being available to all players

    Arrows being enabled for pvp

I agree with all of these except all players being able to place flowing water. I'm on the fence about this since it's be easy to grief as you have unlimited water. I can't think of a case where you need the water to be flowing immediately on C, so I don't think it'd matter too much if players can only place static water as long as there are active moderators around. I agree with all the other points you made since the pros outweigh the cons in all of them imo.

  14. In the most recent Survival Mumble Meeting the idea of an enderpearl cooldown was brought up. Everyone present agreed that a cooldown shouldn't be implemented to stop people pearling to and away from fights since that'd be taking away a big part of PvP, but would rather implement a shorter cooldown of around 3-5 seconds to prevent players from spamming enderpearls to get away from fights so easily.

    • It gives you a chance to see where the player has thrown the pearl and allows you to chase
    • It doesn't stop you from using pearls in general play or PvP
    • You're still able to pearl away from fights, just not spamming pearls

This is an example of an Enderpearl Cooldown plugin that could be used. After 7 days the results from this poll will be counted and we can go from there to see if we want to add a plugin like this.
