  1. I would love to see a more positive involvement from everyone, but quite frankly, removing downvotes is very far down on the list of things that need to change before that happens and it absolutely should not be a priority.

For example, very few new players are going to want to join this community if they come to the forums and see certain Staff Members acting the way they are on some threads. It is awful to see, especially when other Staff Members are putting so much effort into trying to revive the servers, only for it to fail due to the actions of those Staff Members.

I guarantee you I am doing 10000000x more to improve these servers than you are.

Slide, are you actually serious? Like, you want people to "stop using bold color text" and all that other stuff that "derails or distracts the thread" and then you say stuff like this. We're all a team here, staff or not, and if you're mad, this is not the way to go about it. This here, is plain not nice.

From the expectations of staff thread:

"When approached by members of the community, all concerns should be treated as genuine concerns, and not brushed off as trivial or drama. If you find that you can not give an answer to their concern, tell them you will find out the answer, or point them to someone who can."

Come on slide, I like you. Please don't go mad on me.

  2. Ok well a few things have come off this thread, up vote down vote system should it be removed? I would like to say that the question of this thread has been answered by Dumbo and Mrloud, it's been made clear it was a mistake to close it, we all make them. I personally wouldn't reopen the thread as the same question has been asked in more detail in neva's other thread. I feel some of these tangent topics coming off this thread are for another thread, this one seems to have run its course I give permission for it to be closed however I will open another one bringing up the topic of up votes and down votes. Feel free to open up any other threads with your questions. Thanks for the response to my question.

There is a thread about up/down vote system, I think we're waiting on a response from that, as the poll was a few weeks ago (2?)

  3. Yes, I am defending Mrloud. Because of the following image, which is the complete opposite of a "healthy discussion" and honestly it makes me a bit sick, this seems like mob mentality and the community should be better than this.

Yeah, I downvoted because he closed the thread with no explanation. I like that he did explain it and I don't really care about screen caps of the admin log, figure these are trustworthy guys (you know if they're head admins and all) so in hindsight down voting was not the best way to go about it (heck I didn't know anyone would make this thread)

  4. I feel sorry for any pizza man/plumber/electrician that comes over to your house.

one time I was playing bagpipes and the pizza guy knocked on the door. I tried to make it as subtle as possible but the guy was like "...Were you playing bagpipes?"

  5. .Thats fair and I do understand both of your reasonings.  When the head admins asked me if I was okay with a nomination, they accepted when I asked to use this account and the reasons why I don't wish to use KD8. The mods were also notifed by Dumbo52 before the official vote thread was opened.

Must have been one hell of a reason. I honestly don't understand why anyone would want to switch accounts permanently, but I guess if the head admins are ok with it then I am too

  6. And I don't think its right. People will be confused when someone seemingly unknown is suddenly modded. You were nominated as KD8 and I think you should be voted on that account too. It's bad enough when we have already established mods who change their name.

I agree with this. Why do you need to switch your account anyways? I see almost no point in buying another account and then stop using the original one. That would be like me buying the last of us, then turning up the quality and FPS and buying it again for $60, only to never play the original again!

  7. That's what I was thinking. Have two different votes and then have a comparison sort of thing.

I was also thinking of adding a requirement to the apply for mod page. Instead of just a name, you have to put an explanation as to why. so in a way, we'd be able to give our input there as well. That could prevent people from putting in trolls and spamming and such.

This bothers me more than it should.

Why does no requirements bother you? They don't just pick anybody. It's kind of like when the high-ups in the Catholic Church (for example) decide who would become the next pope, they already have somewhat of an idea.

Also, about the spoof forum accounts created simply for polling, you can tell right on their page when people made the account, and IPs on the forums are also trackable. So in theory, if I made the forum account "eosFxx" or something, and voted on who I wanted to become moderator, then there would be sufficient punishment and that vote would not be counted somehow.

  8. If you honestly think that, then you are niave. The staff is VERY biased whether you see it or not.

    1. And you're* basing that off of ONE thread.

    2. I am a regular at several different forums online, and one in particular had the community vote on who THEY want to see represent them. That one particular place was one of the most friendliest and welcoming places I've ever been to, because THE COMMUNITY MADE THE DECISIONS. We made the final decision. We got the occasional asshole, but they're kicked fairly quickly. Honestly, the more I think about it, the more those types of communities are the best.

    3. Because we vote the mods in, we know they will do things in honest interest of the community. And yes, while we do get power hungry people on occasion, I'd say overall it's an awesome community. Essentially the mods would pick people THEY think would be a good mod, along with and explanation as to WHY. If we feel there is someone who we think would be a good mod, we'd put their name in the blank space when voting and provide our reason as to why we chose that person.

    4. If you don't think that we, as a community, can actually provide a good opinion on something, then that just tells us what you really think of the people below you. We are not mods, therefore we cannot make adequate decisions. That's EXACTLY what you're saying, and frankly, I don't want someone who doesn't believe in the community to be a moderator.

edit: I would also like to add something to this.

    5. I have a friend who is generally hated by mods. Except, he's hated by the mods who DON'T KNOW HIM. The mods/staff that do know him? They know he's a very reasonable guy and that, if it ever came down to it, he'd make a great moderator. However, the other staff won't dare look at him as a potential selection. They turn their heads away. This is the kind of bias I won't stand for. What if we as the community want this person as a moderator because we took the time to get to know him, and we know that if it came down to it, he'd be a good mod? Part of our problem here is that the staff doesn't trust the community. Why should we act "mature" and such if we don't get a say in who gets to represent us?

    6. By not letting us vote, it'd be like letting politicians vote who they want as politicians.

Also, I guarantee you if Neva made the votes transparent, people who voted yes/no would've voted otherwise due to what their peers voted.

    ---

I propose this - You need to state why you said yes/no for the people you vote for, and provide examples/logical reasoning as to why you came to said conclusion.

    1. The thread was used as an example, there are certainly more threads than those where bickering and such occurred.

    2. I'd say nerd is a pretty welcoming place, but I do agree that the regular players should be involved in the nomination somehow.

    3. We do the same thing - if the mods/admins vote yes on a moderator, they have the option to explain why. Not many do it anymore but it's there.

    4. I don't think he's saying that we can't make adequate decisions. Also this particular player (IMO) has a strong hold on what the community is. Moderators do not have special powers over regular players outside of modreqs. They are not "above" us and we are not "below" them. They don't get any special blocks to use in-game outside of mod requests.

    5. I'm sorry that player can't become moderator like you want, but you are a fairly new player if memory serves me well, and the people who are able to withhold such positions (or at least part of the reason why they are chosen by staff) is because they put a consistent amount of time into the servers for a long period of time.

    6. Politicians have a say in the voting of other politicians, at least in the United States... it's not like they're barred from voting simply because they work for the government? That's like saying when I start working for the FDA in a few years I won't be able to eat FDA approved food or something.

  9. I don't think this what he meant. If I'm wrong, please correct me. I'm understand this to be the case of a team of people who get into a base through the use of xray. The thing is that only one person on the team is actually xraying and the others just follow him in. Should they all be rolled back? Just the xrayer? Etc.

In my opinion, they should all be rolled back, since the gains were made through the use of hacking, regardless of who was actually xraying.

I believe this is the case, as multiple people have been banned from (knowingly) using items gained through illegal means. Leaving out names here.

  10. I don't care if the admins are slow to update the list provided they don't start grant exceptions to individual players in the meantime.

This is a good point. Isn't one of our key values that no one is really at an advantage over anyone else? I've pointed this out before but mods/admins really only have powers for modreqs and other business that a normal player would not be trusted with. e.g. They don't get special blocks and the player with the most hours doesn't spawn in with diamonds the next rev, and so on.

    Edit: accidentally downvoted the post

  11. Quick idea: when new players join, send something like:

"Welcome to s.nerd.nu! Can you tell us how you found us? Type /found <where you came from>"

Might be handy to know, right?

I like this one actually, good for data collection n stuff. I was also thinking having a command like /playtime so one can see it in-game (but keep the website too)
