  1. I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced within that shorthand description, and perhaps I could never succeed in intelligibly doing so. But I know it when I see it.

     

    Also I don't like the past results of moving away from discretion towards lawyerable rules.

    You were saying that /spawn with a ten second cooldown is similar to logging out. I'm saying the difference is that the admins and players have defined logging out mid engagement as not permitted, but here we are about to permit /spawn with a ten second cooldown for the second time.

  3. 0 hours this rev, but hundreds on previous revs. 3-4 months meaning it should only last past the start of the fifth month if there are technical reasons to, ie tech admins are on holiday, spigot is coming out in a week. I'm not familiar with circle maps, I just care that everything is within easy reach - <40-50m blocks does that. Biomes are tricky - we want oceans for a lot of temples but not much else, swamps for witch huts but not much else. Some biomes like extreme hills and jungles look difficult but are wonderful and popular to build in. Portal numbers - we've had too little in the past, have we had too many? I'd like to see P test out how many is too many, say is one every 2km^2 too many? If cities are 500 blocks wide then there's still 1500 blocks between them where towns and independents can easily not see each other.

  4. I'm saying that with a 10 second cooldown, that leaves plenty of time /spawn if someone is breaking into your base or coming towards you and it isn't on just open land, I'm saying this is similar to logging in the fact that you /spawn to keep your gear inside of having to fight.

     

    The key difference is that this method is what the staff and players separately chose.

  5. But it was meant to be a prize for the previous revision's SAL, which did run for a few matches iirc. Why didn't it get given as a prize as promised?

     

    It might be a damned if they do, damned if they don't situation. If they award the prize for an incomplete league I can imagine genuine complaints, if they don't then you aren't happy. In that case it makes sense to weather the damnation and keep it for next time, hoping for some positivity then.

  6. Possibly to go with a statue as Silversun said, or instead of, or both - dioramas of notable buildings in the lobby or future spawns. Imagine if you saw a mini eye of sauron in the C spawn that housed the portal to S?

Fundraising is a sensitive issue because people thought their donations would keep survival going for the rest of the year, but instead some of that money is being redirected towards projects conceived in private and survival is closing. Have the admin team got any celebrations planned for the end of the rev? I was thinking one thing would be pretty cool in the last few weeks of it would be too put landmark buildings from past S revs into the wilderness and then people can raid or fight over the loot. Alternatively if focusing on the present, how is survival making use of community funds to which it is entitled to do new things and maximise the player count? I lost track of the advertising situation, but there should be paid survival specific ads that maybe also plug whatever steam group is official atm. Any more experimental changes or plugins in the pipeline (are there any?) should get tested sooner rather than later in this rev, even if they can't save S, they could yield something beneficial for the other servers imo.

     

    People thought they were raising money to continue renting the servers. People expect the admins to make fun use of that, not to make use of it only in ways currently publicly known. Last I heard this is an open ended revision so there wouldn't be a date for the end of rev celebrations. Entitled doesn't come into it, ever. Inspiration and motivation are low in plugin creators, better to start on fresh ideas then build something - which seems to be what is planned. IIRC cobracorral came from S but only because someone was motivated to make it.

  8. In the steam sales a few years ago I started putting games in my inventory not my library. I think I can pass them on from the inventory. If people who have (or will start) done this were willing to donate some of those games then no new money will be spent - a little easier to swallow?
