  1. For that jungle tree competition - someone from Wellspring took part but didn't get one. Somewhere nearby, probably Darco (brom), gave us a sapling they had generated and we spent some time in the dug out hole for the village hall trying to grow our own excess saplings with little success. Portals are a bit different. I'd like to see some requirement put on portal owners, say that within a month they have to have started on a rail station near the portal. It can be underground, or even further away with a rail line to near the portal.

  2. I don't think that'd work because we request such large regions justifiably that if only one or two people abandon their big plot it is really obvious. We could have a 'spawn city' with nothing done to the land since generation/worldpainter/spawn paste-in, but the mods only give out regions up to 100x100 in the spawn city area, say up to 300m from spawn. Last few times I saw that it looks pretty terrible because of the height people built to. Maybe have the regions given out within 50m of the edge of spawn are 50x50 and only up to y100.

    And more.

Can any current or recent (lets say trained in 2015) staff talk about what was missing from training, if any? The closest thing to a comment on this I've seen so far seemed to be someone saying they didn't get all their training.

  4. We haven't had the fallout of someone being promoted too quickly. Please talk about the potential downsides, eg Nerd's reputation (and don't say it couldn't get lower, thats just a dumb move), with less subjectivity than you'd use to argue your side of a point.

  5. I believe the limitations on PvP arenas on P have relaxed once or twice, and didn't go too far because they didn't want to encroach on S's thing. Is that still a limitation, or can we go for bigger, wilder PvP zones on P?

To put it another way, what benefit is there to do this on a new server rather than modify what P players can modreq for?

  6. I don't like this argument. You can say the same thing about ANY issue. People that stopped playing may have stopped playing BECAUSE of issues they saw with the servers. If you only take the opinions of people that play all the time, then you're going to get a self-selecting group of people who are okay with the status-quo (or at least, okay enough for them to be able to continue playing).

Show us, or better bring them. For all we know so far you invented this for improving your argument. We have enough people who are spending effort arguing for change in specific directions, so it'd be nice to have some different types of people.

edit: Misunderstood roast's reply to twix, thought he was saying he knew of a group that would add numbers to his side without only being put off Nerd because of being banned/bad beef with staff.

  7. I don't see that I am being reactionary, I don't see that anyone not subject to a Nerd ban calls them harsh. If we have too many people calling them harsh then we have too many people who tested the rules without any tact or delicacy. I don't agree with ban appeals being weird, but I don't go seeking to be unbanned in endless places. We're all agreed on that ending anyway, tempbans as soon as possible.

It could be considered reactionary to only start a discussion about rule changes when you were personally affected, which by my count has happened twice in this discussion. But I'd rather leave the mud in the ground not in the air/faces. We're agreeing in small areas and lets keep that ball rolling.

  8. I disagree and think it should receive some very overdue reform.

What's the motivation for that? Saving one or two players you like doesn't objectively matter. Saving a few good players that may or may not exist in the sea of first time xray offenders doesn't appear to be worth it. Could you show us how it could be worth it, rather than just claim it? Can you think about the downsides from the admins perspective?

  9. How this discussion went in the past is that there are current PVE players who want what they have now - safety plus pvp arenas, and Survival players who want no safety outside of spawn. Any sort of compromise is undesirable to both. It's impossible to appeal to both, or at least to appeal to the vocal minority of S and the visible consensus of P.

I believe the best chance for overlap is what Junction were planning, which I think was one strip of PVP taking up the middle third of the map and two strips of pve either side of it. Use the tag plugin used now for logging to keep fights ongoing into the pve area, and a few other things like that. There's planning documents somewhere. PvE has their safe towns and wilderness, PvP has its towns and wilderness, and they have the PvE people crossing to the other side. It could still easily be preferred by one type of people and they'd lose out by not having the other type around. I still don't think this should be tried.

  10. Just use common sense. I struggle why it's considered so hard to just set xray ban lengths. If Forzaire logs on immediately xrays + lavas someone's base, ban him for a few more months. If a noob logs on and immediately xrays 10 diamond then PM them and tempban them for a day or two. If they don't get the message then ban them some more.

That's hindsight. That's no good with first time offenders.

  11. I'm yet to be convinced on waiting to see "if they don't get the message then ban more".

I'm also yet to be convinced that some people will accept common sense, as common sense is the same thing as discretion.

To put it another way: who are we giving the benefit of the doubt to for their gain, and who for our gain. I give it to people who take crops without replanting, or take three iron for their first pick. I don't give it to someone who seeks to offend others, or who installs a mod that is clearly for bad purposes. A slap on the wrist for those who have the benefit of the doubt of that mod, and a ban (temp ban when we can) for those who do not deserve the benefit of the doubt.
