  1. Yes, because the community at large behaving in an exclusive and insular fashion is SURE to improve the general morale of the playerbase.

You know the word general means everybody right? Not like 12 people in a forum? Most people atm are enjoying the new revs, moral seems to be pretty high. Ik I'm having fun with the new P and C rev personally.

    But i digress.

(also just a disclaimer, when i say 12 people in a forum I don't mean the people posting and being productive by planning events, rallying for builds, showing off towns etc.)

  2. I think the real problem here is people who turn these "potentially productive" posts to shitfests.

I read the first page of these posts and it already descended into "Fuck you and Fuck this and We hate (name here)" and people emphasizing points that the main player base hasn't even given an opinion on or cares about. It doesn't take a mathmatition to figure out that the people who post on the forums are not the entire player base/express their opinions in anyway. Not to say all people who post here are not productive, what I'm getting at is it just turns into text box warfare and people arguing about a block game. A little sad. So many posts are being made about a crumbling community and why its crumbling, but the reasons are just different every day (if they are right or wrong). People hate staff members for various things etc. etc. Whats the point, why even make posts like this and pretend act like "mature adults" because fact is, most of these posts are just grudge matches. Its one thing to be mature and have an actual conversation, its another to pretend your being mature and telling people to be when your not being anywhere close yourself.

TLDR: if you have a problem with the community or think your being discriminated any way, you may leave if you would like. Not that hard, plenty of communities around.

Oh and the clash of C, P, and S is a little petty and not widespread among players just a certain few, although I would probably guess exactly the individuals would argue against that. I would like to remind everyone who thinks different that the IPs are:

    C.nerd.nu S.nerd.nu and P.nerd.nu

Log on using those, and come have a good time instead of arguing in the forums.

  3. One town, called Anvar, was built on the revision 8 volcano. http://redditpublic.com/carto/pve/p08/carto/index.html#/-2425/64/-188/-3/0/0 I visited it at the time, and while it was epic it was very much like the nether.

Anvar appears to be Verros's solo work. I know we have new people and old people with new ideas, it's hardly a poor use of space anyway.

that volcano was a bit extreme. if one where to be put in the map, it defiantly shouldn't be made of netherrack entirely

  4. I heard some complaints from the people building links between cities this rev that it was too far and too repetitive. Do you have a number on what is big enough?

I would say personally between 4k to 6k

but of course it all depends on opinion on what is big enough

  5. I don't know who these people are who were afraid of building around a volcano. I'd build the fuck out of a volcano mountain. Awesome forges that redirect lava into huge furnaces, bridges soaring above the flows.... hnnngh.

    This guy. This fucking guy.

    All hail this guy

  6. I think player retention has to do with long term goals and events. After the first month, everything is built up, the terrain is conquered with roads, and the rev ultimately slows down. I think in future, have a map thats big enough and detailed enough so exploring and developing takes longer, but not a HUGE map where everything is spread out and it becomes way too much repetitive work. Another thing that could help would be the encouragement of community based events. The staff run events are always fun and bring people back, but the community events also bring in extra creativity and different perspectives and angles. Building an event takes devotion (that keeping players in alone) and the fact that there will always be something new to do always helps. Shorter revs are good too, not short as in 2-3 months but shorter then 7-8. Long revs get very repetitive as people start to trickle out. So short to keep the attention span but not long enough to make it feel old and endless.

  7. Tobylane ill go over some things you said one by one.

    1. In the past i have seen towns in valleys and never once have i seen someone building a city to just be like, "oh no a mountain, better stop." City building is supposed to be a challenge and is supposed to overcome obstacles. Where is the fun in flat cities? (also the valleys i was thinking of would be massive more like canyons)

    2. The large caves in rev11 where visited all the time, there where multiple cities and active members who lived and worked in them. Myself included.

    3. When it comes to rivers, cities normally look to build near them/over them. I could easily say that with the manpower even a small city has, moving a river isn't difficult. Most cities love having rivers through them, for docks or bridge projects. Most mayors wouldn't be burdened by a river, they would just make bridges and make it a part of their town.

Now of course for the volcano and jungle thing, i agree, but that was just a spitball idea, but i like mountainous areas for people to explore with said mountains being on the far reaches of the map. Hopefully also making large cities stay closer to the middle of the map in the flatlands.

  8. I would really like to see a map with extra amplified terrain to make areas like this:

    • Mountainous area with a volcano or two as the centerpiece (hard to scale, but awesome community road/bridge building ops)
    • Large ocean with detailed ocean floor (cliffs, mountains, valleys, coral reef with guardian "fun"geon as the center piece)
    • Vast flat valleys with overlooking mountain ranges
    • Large jungle for exploring
    • Large Forest areas dotted around the map
    • Don't forget spooky dark oak forests
    • Huge underground caverns like the ones in rev11 to make underground a land in itself
    • Large rivers for towns to spring up along and to feed water from oceans to the flatland valleys.

The idea behind what i came up with is for both amazing adventures and exploring, to amazing cities built on cliffsides or in awesome terrain that would take a tenacious player to devise. Also, what brings in players and keeps them like an amazing map with expanding opportunities around every corner.

    Also repetitive land is boring.

  9. This is why we couldn't do this on PvE. If players didn't have access to everything PvE has to offer in the PvE area, players would leave. If players DID have access to everything PvE has to offer in the PvE areas, players wouldn't leave the PvE area.

Don't get me wrong, the idea of having a PvE area, or something along those lines, is interesting to me, but I can't see us tampering with P just because S isn't working at the moment.

I play P for the PVE aspect, personally i dont want to have PVP areas everywhere and have the need to go into the areas for more ore..

Why not just have the whole server PVP with protected houses people cant get in (/s)...its practically no different.

  10. Eh, it wouldn't really be scrapping PvE. If I understand the idea correctly, people who don't want to involve themselves in the new content could stay in the "PvE" area of the map. Essentially, they could play "classic pve" within the new map.

Trying the idea out on p.nerd.nu would work out best because it already has a large player base to experiment with the new features. New players are more likely to join and play on a server that already has an established community.

There is new people coming to PVE everyday, they wont stay if they log on during an experement. I don't think its a great idea to risk loosing massive amounts of players due to testing. Along with that, over 80% of the players i see online i have never seen on the forums, so being misinformed could lead people to abandon ship. Maybe that might not happen, but i wouldn't risk it.

  11. If everything was posted there it would be easy for things to get buried in the thread. I was suggesting a separate area on the forums for organizing games on the main page.

Well the idea would be to discuss games in the thread and then if an event was to be scheduled, for that to happen through one of the two steam groups.

  12. Lots of fun new games have been coming out, and many of us have been hopping on mumble or skype to play them.

Have a game your intrested in or want to find some friends with the same game? This is the thread for you!

Feel free to discuss development of new games, or reminisce about old games.

  13. From what i have seen, P is doing well with population and everyone seems to be having fun, why scrap it for this?

Having a new server, or even better, a trial run on the event server would be the best way to go about making this happen. (if it where too)

I remember this much excitement and this many ideas for the chaos server...but fact is, it may seem like a great idea but it doesn't last long.

I mean how many times have we had a chaos server that got scrapped, but each time, the discussion was similar with great ideas and aspirations.

  14. Well, one of the reasons could possibly be minecraft mods. They have always been popular but they seem to be booming right now. Also, many of our "regulars" have been playing loads of different games other then minecraft, so that draws a few away. Those seem to be the two main reasons in my mind.
