  1. If all the cards fall in place we'll likely have an announcement to make regarding the end of the current revision and the future of S this weekend.

So since the cards obviously didn't fall in place, is there a new time we can be looking at for an update?

  2. Personally, I think that this is a horrible idea.  I think that any modifications should remain server side only.  You can still do a lot of changes server side while maintaining a vanilla client.

I don't lean either way of this, but I'm curious as to why you think it's a horrible idea? I assume we'd have the modpack available somewhere on our forums, which could easily be accompanied by a step by step walk through video of how to install the mods. I get that some feel we should always be vanilla, but I also understand there are some things that plug ins can't do compared to mods.

  3. I find it odd that we are spending most of the time arguing over what to call a server, when we haven't even decided what direction to take it.

Perhaps we can stop arguing over the minute details and come together towards a productive discussion of what direction to take the server.

The time for a discussion about what to call a server would be better served once we know more about what the server will look like.

Arguing? I'm purely curious. From the above form it clearly shows we're moving in a direction of change. I am happy. I want change. I'm not upset, concerned, angry or any other emotion that would push me to argue something. Though I do agree, it's something to discuss later.

Moving on, I didn't realize this was a place for said discussions? I would love to be apart of any discussions extended towards S as you and the other sadmins probably know all too well, though I didn't think this was the place. Maybe we could start a genuine discussion thread in the private mod chat discussing some of the ideas that are voted on heavily and how to make them work?

  4. I'm actually curious as well and have the same question Torn has. I'm not against changes, I'm a heavy advocate of change and moving on from what seems to not be working anymore. However I believe if we do change, it would be better for our server to advertise said changes straight from the title. Saying that this is Rev 28 of Survival is odd because in my opinion it won't so much be survival anymore. We all knew S was fun for its time, but now that's grown stale, I think a rename or starting back at Rev 1 and letting people remember S for its good things is a better way to go. Everyone who was here would know that S is different, and new players would jump at the chance to start from scratch and build a new community with us. Of course this is all just my opinion.

  5. Smash brothers. I have a Wii U and there aren't any tourneys in the northeast region that I'm aware of, so I'm looking to destroy some nerds.

HAHAHAHA is this a challange m8. Add me: mdizney

But on topic I think it would be better to start with the more popular games in our community and then work into the less popular.

  6. So does this mean that Survival is currently your 1st priority, or that your PvE town comes first? If the latter, I guarantee you that any of the other possible candiates for SAdmin would be able to commit far more time and effort to Survival purely because it's their first priority. Unless you're some superbeing able to somehow put in the standard level of effort/time into Survival whilst the PvE town remains your top priority, I very strongly doubt that you'll be able to compare to what the other possible candidates would've been able to accomplish.

Did you not read her post? She said her first priority is sadmin responsibilities, then the P city, THEN being a player on S. That seems pretty fair, since she did commit to the city in the past.

  7. I play a lot, but don't pvp that much(working on changing that) but I'm currently 6 in time played. I feel like the current "core" pvpers are too immature to be leaders of the community. Until they "grow up" I don't feel any of them are ready for that kind of responsibility. So in theory it should be someone who plays often, but in practice it would probably turn out pretty badly.

Most of the players that were considered for admin (as I think is what you're addressing) tend to be immature to each other because that's how we've been conditioned on survival. Almost 95% of what we say are joking around with each other. But if you directly talked to any of our staff in game, we should show signs of professionalism and maturity to answer any questions or help in ways we can.

  8. I don't think that this or anything related to this will help things to be honest.  That ship has sailed a while ago.

The current chatter going on feels more like a struggle for control of the survival server than a lack of communication or anything else.

As for how to fix it, I'm really not sure.

I think a better topic would be more "How can we all work together to give survival the best chance of success?"  And this has nothing to do with game mechanics, but more how can everyone work with people that they may not like or agree with.

There's a level of frustration on all sides I think.  It would be great if all parties could ponder "How can I act and deal with people in a way that makes them and I less frustrated with the situation and more likely to get a successful survival server going?"  And finger pointing is not it ;)

I don't mean this to be a personal attack to Dizney & Co or anyone else.  This is an outsider's view of the situation, and this is the only thing that I can see that would help.

    g.

Well I didn't mean for this to focus on S, Aca's post just gave me the thought that this would be cool if every server admin did this. I know the S situation is different, but I'm discussing the rest of the time as well. Even if a player is really well liked and is added in with full praise, I think it would be cool to read their initial thoughts going into being an admin.

  9. One idea I thought of was to start something new for server admins, an inauguration post. Basically when a player gets elevated to an admin position, the new server admin would prepare a post (short or lengthy) about what expectations the community should have for them, what some of their plans are as admin, they're past on the server, etc. I think if server admins did this it would show more publicly their care for the server they'll be admin of, and possibly assist in keeping the community content. Also in the process, this should alleviate some of the tension between the player community and staff by keeping everyone connected through direct communication.

    Thoughts?

  10. -Disclaimer: Nothing said here is a shot at TheAcademician. I will reiterate that she as a player and a person is wonderful, and she is also an amazing tech-

Honestly I'm disappointed in the sadmin team for their failure to give us a solid response on any point in this thread. As Mumber does a good job of taking the focus off Aca in his post in this thread, I will be addressing the statements made here: https://nerd.nu/forums/topic/2871-please-welcome-our-newest-survival-admin/?p=22175

"Hello everyone. We Sadmins noticed there is a flurry of activity in response to our decision to invite TheAcademician to join the Sadmin team. We'd like to clear a few things up about this decision.

We chose TheAcademician as our next Survival admin for several reasons. She has a good history as a Survival player, having played and moderated here for quite awhile before gravitating more toward PvE in recent months. Some of you who have played on Survival in the past may recognize her as the architect of Sanctuary and Egreth (which were quite a magnet for PvP during revs 20 and 21). She also made the CobraCorral plugin that Survival has been using for a few revs.

TheAcademician was chosen for the reason we choose any admin: we think she will work well with the team, handle the responsibilities we're trusting her with well, and be an asset in planning and developing future revs. We're looking forward to working with her to produce a fun serve r to play blocks on. :)"

This response is not satisfactory in my opinion. How is creating pve cities in two revs considered to be a good history as a survival player? Furthermore how is having a good history on S something to be taken into account? Plenty of players have a good "history" on S, but I thought we weren't looking at the past and only trying to move forward towards the present? Maybe I misunderstood your post in THIS thread stating that this gameplay is now boring and that we should find some new way of creating S, thus going against our history.

As a heavy player in both revs of these cities, and constructing a lot of what you saw in Sanctuary, I can assure you that these were not pvp hot spots. The locations of the cities were not given out most of the time due to wanting to avoid pvp. Not only that, but these cities were built far away to avoid pvp interaction. Because of this, it's clear these cities were made with a more PvE mindset, which went against what S was in previous revisions.

Now to address the last part, this criteria seems to be a borderline popularity contest. Who will work best with the team? A friend. Who can we trust to do their duties? A friend. It also seems that rev planning would go a lot smoother if everyone was on board with the same ideas. Generally it seems that players tend to stick with players that have the same ideas as them. In short, a friend. Becoming admin should not be who has more friends on the current admin team, it should be someone who is very passionate about the server, and wants to see it succeed far beyond what it was in the past. With 0 hours put in, it's clear the passion just isn't there.

Lastly I just want to say that it's hard to accept a player as an admin who was so quick to leave due to the player base. If someone didn't like the player base in the past, what's changed now to make them come back aside from just an admin role?

  11. I guess I'm slightly confused, what is the group for? I like the idea, but are the admins involved or this a "we'll take what we have to them" after kind of thing? Because what if the group spends weeks planning something just to have it ignored (I know this can happen from experience)? I don't want to say it sounds pointless because I really do like the idea and want to be added, but without admin recognition I don't know how far it's going to go based on the past.

  12. The Sadmins picked Aca and the head admins only involvement is to review their choice to see if there are any strong objections.

So there were no objections on the activity of the player? As heads who have to deal with quite a lot of heckling because of activity, not a single head thought of this as an issue? Nine admins looked at someone who hasn't set foot in S this revision (about 7 weeks) and decided that this would be our standard for the server admins?

I understand, aca is a wonderful person and a great tech, but based on usage she's a P player. The entire reason people have been arguing for new sadmins is due to activity on S.

  13. Why is your self esteem so low?

Because Flo-Rida once told me to get low low low low low so I did everywhere :-)

Is it true that EeHee2000 has called you a 'twat' on the forums at least once, you twat?

Why are you such a twat?

...I dont recall a time when that happened

  14. If you could be any one of the sloths in your picture, which one would it be?

What is the moon really made out of?

If the moon was made out of cheese, do you think it would be edible? Or does moon cheese never go bad?

If djt offered you a taco in his van, would you take the right path of politely turning it down or would you say yes and learn the hard way never to take anything from djt?

Why do Aliens abduct Humans if we are an inferior race?

If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself, is it considered a hostage situation?

Would a fly without wings be called a walk?

How do you know when you have run out of invisible ink?

How long is a piece of string?

Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food?

Instead of wasting time hunting and cooking, why don't hunters just use flame-throwers?

If your car says Dodge on the front of it, do you really need a horn?

If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

Why is it considered necessary to nail down the lid of a coffin?

Why is a boxing ring square?

If rabbits' feet are so lucky, then what happened to the rabbit?

If the #2 pencil is the most popular, why is it still #2?

Why do they make scented toilet paper?

Why do they call it quicksand when it sucks you down slowly?

  15. Everything wouldn't be available in the PvE area. Players who want to experiment with new content would go explore the PvP area.

This is why we couldn't do this on PvE. If players didn't have access to everything PvE has to offer in the PvE area, players would leave. If players DID have access to everything PvE has to offer in the PvE areas, players wouldn't leave the PvE area.

Don't get me wrong, the idea of having a PvE area, or something along those lines, is interesting to me, but I can't see us tampering with P just because S isn't working at the moment.

  16. Why don't you think they would stay? It would be just like a new PvE rev but with more features. Players who enjoy the current PvE server would not be forced to go out into the new PvP area if they decide that they don't enjoy the new content.

But then whats the point of going into the pvp zones if everything is already available in the pve area?

  17. I agree with Tornado completely. This rev has proven to be exactly what everyone thought it would be. I don't get on because there's nothing for me to do. The problem isn't pvp mechanics, it's that there's no reason/gain to pvp. Without pvp, why not just play on P with more players and more chances at making friends? I've tried to give this rev a chance, but there's just nothing for me to do anymore
