  1. "Do you think we need to change how we do donations? Oh btw I can see no reason to give you information on how donations are going and what they're used for." Like, why even bother asking? Is this thread a token gesture or do you actually care about our opinions? I'm trying very hard but I could not imagine Ludeman, Pilot, Draykhar, Denevein, AlcoJew, Skuld, Eustis, forty_two or pretty much *any other head admin* acting this way.
  2. If someone is polling me over fundraising methods I would like to know expenses and how fundraising is going atm... Otherwise we can't give you an informed opinion! Why should roast attempt to answer the questions without information that his answer depends on? Apparently common sense isn't so common... EDIT: wait wat I think I misread the original quote but now I'm not even sure what it's saying
  3. That's not an answer to a "why" question. Who pissed in your cornflakes?
  4. As a moderator of r/unitedkingdom, what is your favoured kickback currency and why is it shekels?
  5. If you could choose any superpower out of the ability to turn your arms into cricket bats, the ability to never feel regret, the ability to shoot kebab meat out of your wrists, the ability to create high-quality knitwear out of thin air and the ability to give people diarrhoea just by touching them, which would it be?
  6. A badge is not a promotion. The idea behind "Reddit Public" is that it is *unranked*. I can join the game as a new player and have *exactly the same abilities* as someone who's played for years and donated huge amounts. This is what we should be proud of, and it contrasts deeply with a huge number of minecraft servers around that have "builder" or "trusted" or "mayor" ranks. Being unranked does not prevent us from giving cosmetic perks to donors. Why should it? They gain no advantage other than recognition for a charitable act. Should we be removing the "recent donors"/"top donors" section on nerd.nu/donate, if we're advocating that all charity should be anonymous? If not, why can't we have forum badges too? And this whole argument seems to be focused on the poorly-defined downsides of cosmetic perks. What about the upsides? All sorts of organisations give cosmetic perks or recognition to donors *because it works*. It will bring in more money. With more money we could run a 4th server, or buy better hardware and not have to worry about lag again. I'd take better gameplay over some supposed incredibly minor weakening of our ethos any day. I'm also enjoying everyone suddenly giving a shit about possibly giving ordinary players the most minor "rank upgrade". While we're here should we talk about the dozens of former staff who've poured scorn on the "becoming a moderator is not a promotion" idea? Shall we talk about the 2 or 3 staff members who've returned this year *because* they were sick of having to explain region changes through /modreq, or waiting hours for their water requests to get filled?
  7. Sounds like a pretty interesting idea actually mumber! However - It sounds like sending a notification to moderators when a player hasn't replaced would be too great a burden on mods - If you're blacklisting blocks for auto-replacement with the intention of preventing/reducing duping, where do you draw the line? There are only a few blocks players would consider almost completely worthless (dirt springs to mind), but everything has some value. I'd be up for the idea tho - sounds more arcade-y and chilled which is more up my street.
  8. iirc the "don't refund items lost due to game glitches" rule exists it's impossible to prove what people lost if they reported after the fact. but if I saw a player accidentally glitch and die, I'd probably TP em back. What's the harm?
  9. What are the other ways to unstick players? give em temporary region access?
  10. Good stuff slide, looking forward to seeing it.
  11. I don't think I've taken fall damage from teleporting to the ground. Is that a thing?
  12. Also lol @ everyone flipping shit over gifs. It was a bad topic to start a gif chain (being an announcement of a meeting that multiple people have asked for and something that requires discussion) but it is **NOT A BIG DEAL**. Just let the posts get deleted and get on with your lives.
  13. My question is whether this will be a repeat of the survival meeting where two meetings were held in different timezones. If it's a follow-up meeting that's at least a few days after the first one, that's fine. If it's the same meeting happening with different players, I'd like to know. If you've got more than one meeting planned you must surely know what the intent of the 2nd meeting is, right? My objection to the timezone-split meetings is that it was impossible to build consensus knowing the discussion has either already started elsewhere, or will be rehashed later.
  14. It's policy to refund players for moderator mistakes. The moderator who tp'd you made a mistake. If you contact a server admin they'll refund you.
  15. Slide mentioned to me last december (I think?) that he was planning a rewrite of the nerd.nu website in PHP. I asked a few admins a couple months ago if they'd heard/knew anything about it, but no-one seemed to know anything. Slide pointedly ignores me unless he needs something, so answer came there none. As a matter of fact he's threatened to veto a community-made website if a certain recording of him is released. He was asking around for renders a little while ago, so perhaps he's restarted the project? I suppose we'll find out soon enough :D
  16. I think we need promotion more than advertising. Social media presence, regular small-scale events, collaborations with other communities.
  17. Roughly how spaced will the two meetings be - are we talking hours or weeks?
  18. If it's urgent to get a workable rev out the door then I'm fine with us reverting to old-style survival *temporarily*. But really we need to find something that's as engaging/new as r26 that doesn't shut quite so many doors.
  19. I think I dug out a couple of old CTF maps in 2012 from war.nerd.nu (~2011). I may still have them... If we do minigames could we come up with an original concept? Also, could we make sure we have maps with building allowed? I almost exclusively play defense on oc.tc and I like to think I'm pretty good at it. Maps without building are boring. We need a good balance of PVP skill (rushing, block spam, etc) and defense skill, which you can get reaaaaaaally in depth with if you like!
  20. Thanks very very much for all the info Mumber, that's great to hear! I think civcraft has been very hit and miss. I enjoy it but realistically I need to find another server which is a bit more peaceful. Loss of old survival has left a bit of a hole. But that's just me. I think you could make it successful provided you don't pretend it's anything like old survival. Market it as a difficult pvp/raiding server, and be sure to market it well. I feel like the next rev is likely to suffer the same fate as this one without a sizable launch event, and regular admin-run events like arenas/tournaments/etc. If you are keen to keep fans of more laid-back survival, I think (and I've mentioned before) that some kind of area protection would be great, if you make it so it's only usable by large groups of people. This would encourage cities where noobs could start off, and would give people to opportunity to do above-ground builds. Thanks again!
  21. I know it's a minority opinion, but I think cosmetic perks for donors are fine. On my favourite music tracker we get a little "piggy bank" icon next to our names on the forum, and badges for other things too.
