  1. I guess inadvertently proving a point was the humorous part.  Nothing more or less.

I didn't inadvertently prove a point. I made it very clear in my post that the community is not dying. The community is very much alive, it is our servers that we need to improve to expand our community in-game.

  2. Meanwhile, 90% of players are having fun on the servers not aware of any of these "issues". Our servers are still full of people and none of them seem to be on the verge of leaving. So no. The community isnt dying...

I'd say that we've lost a very large portion of our players. There was a time where we had an average of 150+ players across our network. Look at it now:

    Reddit Creative Server, Rev 26 (1.7.9): [5/150] | Reddit PvE Rev 13 (1.7.9): [25/150] | Reddit Survival Rev 26 (1.7.9): [5/150] | Mumble: [25/200] | MCBouncer: Up!

I know that we are near the end of a revison for both S and PvE, but even at launch the numbers were low. It is clear that we are losing players, don't say that we aren't.

Instead of saying "everything is fine, don't complain," we need to work together as a community to improve the servers.

  3. What happens when you post while driving... So you can stop insisting that most of our community is out of game cause we both know that is rubbish. I felt four was implying most of our community is in the forums or IRC or something.

A large portion of our community is out of game though. Many of us have played on these servers for years and made good friends within the commuinty. Over time minecraft becomes boring or something that we don't have time for anymore. A large portion of these members stay active in mumble, irc, steam, and the forums to keep in touch with friends they've made on the Nerd servers.

There are over 60 members in irc, over 350 members in our steam group, and about 40-80 players in game. Together we make up the mcpublic community.

I think what Four was saying is that there is a ton of members of the community that are no longer active in game, and that it wouldn't be right to exclude them from the community.

  4. If it is a tag that appears in chat, I am against it. As shown with the clan tags, having extra stuff in the chat makes it hard to read. If it is something that simply appears next to a players name in game, it could be worth looking into and might encourage more PvP

How does a tag before a name make chat hard to read? I didn't mind the clan tag thing, it looked like most players were using the feature when the plugin was enabled. I'd be for bringing this feature back.

I wouldn't want to see rankings in chat either, they might seem a bit irrelevant to a new player joining (unlike clan tags since that's a widely used feature). I like the idea of redesigning the leaderboard page, both in how the rankings are calculated and how the page looks. As suggested before, I think we should take note of how other servers record player rankings and statistics - looks appealing and is very informative.

What about showing rank on the [tab] player list?

    Edit: Like this

  5.

In a perfect world that may be what the downvotes are used for, but around here they more frequently get used because someone dissagrees with a contributing post or simply doesn't like the player posting. If you look through the threads (especially some of the more recent ones) the use of downvotes just spurs butthurt "y u downvote me brah" posts and other drama that really only hurts the discussion.

I rarely see downvotes misused. If a post is negative, it is usually a shitty or unrelated post. If the post is constructive the up/down votes will even out or go positive.

If you don't like the votes, ignore them. They really don't affect anything negatively, I don't understand the complaints.

I agree with this.  Some people need to step back and remember that this forum is for a video game server. No need to take a few 'internet points' so seriously. :p

  6. I don't see what the problem is with up/down votes. Up votes show that you agree or support an idea without having to make a seperate post to show support. Downvotes show that someone made a shitpost or that they are not contributing to the thread.

The only people that seem to be complaining are the ones that have been downvoted for making shitposts or posts that do not contribute to the discussion.
