  1. I thought s.nerd.nu already had a jail system

I think some of the spawns had them, but I've only seen a jail used once.

What I proposed is an automated system for minor rule violations. For example, if a new player griefed some crops, they would be jailed and forced to input a number for the rule they broke to be released. This would help retain new players and would only be used for minor violations. Many people leave and never come back if they have to make a forum account and request to be unbanned for something minor. It can take over 2 days for a mod respond to a ban appeal. Somone looking for a server to play would rather go to another server than wait two days to possibly get unbanned.

  2. What about a jail system? Player gets jailed and must provided the number for the rule that they broke to be released. This system would work for most minor bans and would force the player to read the rules. It could be done easily with a plugin.

    Here is an example:

"You have been jailed by [modname] for racism, please use the /unjail [number] command with the number for the rule you broke to be released"

This would show new players that they are not permbanned and would save them the trouble of having to go through the lengthy appeal process.

  3. It also seems that there isnt much pvp happening on S at the moment. I haven't been on in a week, yet it's showing that I am still 12th on the "rankings" page (which is interesting because when I left I thought I was 13th..). Has anything been discussed in terms of improving the amount of pvp on the server?

PvP is hard to find without roads or a central spawn. No roads and random spawns was a cool idea, but I don't think it can work with the number of players on S.

  4. This looks pretty good to me, however having a meeting planned at 3am seems pretty ridiculous to me. Which time zone is that aiming to include? It'd seem more logical to have a evening meeting on the friday and then a midday one on the saturday since generally that's when Americans aren't working/at school.

I agree. Friday would be a better day for a meeting.

  5. The grinders are a huge factor.  There's really no risk to going out it full God gear if all it takes to replace the set, is to spend a few minutes in the grinder.  Players would be much less likely to spam potions and ender pearls (a source of much debate) if these things required actual work to obtain, instead of a few minutes at the End grinder, the Blaze grinder, etc.  Suddenly, PVP becomes a risky business, which forces players to be more strategic, making the game more involving, and more fun.  Those who wanted more arena-like PVP could find a server for that.

Making gear/potions/pearls harder to obtain would discourage players from gearing up on a regular basis. It is already hard to find armored pvp.

  6. We discussed killstreaks during the meeting, but didn't come to any solid conclusion on them.

    • Currently killstreaks are at only 5 and 10. Do you think there should be more killstreaks? (e.g. 10, 20, 50, 100)

Yes! Once a player gets a killstreak going the message in chat should display a custom message for every 10 kills. I think at one point S had a plugin that did something similar.

  7. Eh, I don't really see a point in adding a rule for this. It doesn't happen very often, and when it does the person killed usually only has a few crops to replant. If a player takes the risk to clear out an entire farm at once, they have the responsibility to replace it if they get killed. The best way to avoid this is to only farm a few crops at a time.

A new rule for this needs to be defined. We currently have a similar one for "breaking-and-entering" to gain access for exploration or PvP. Basically whoever ends up with the griefed blocks is responsible for fixing the PvP edit. I definitely think the same should responsibility should be applied to crops.

The current rule doesn't say that.

    Players are allowed to make a small number of temporary edits for the purpose of gaining access to other players’ bases, such as for PvP or exploration. However, all such edits must be fixed immediately;

  8. This is derpy. I do not understand why people do this. Yes I live in a desert, no you should not destroy it.

Players would get upset if I came in their forest and destroyed all the trees without replanting, or if I went next to their city and removed all the grass and dirt. Why is this allowed?

It is not that hard to put in a cobble layer and place sand to make the desert look normal.

In your original post you stated that both the forest and city were claimed by a player. Breaking trees on someones plot, and editing the landscape of a city can both be considered grief.

Building in a desert does not mean that you own the entire desert. Your plot is defined by what you have protected or marked out. If a player came and removed all the sand in your marked claim it would be considered grief, just like if I built on a mountain and a player removed the mountain from under my house. If you want to keep it, include it in your claim, if not it should be considered a public resource.

  9. I think it's a great idea. Just one suggestion...why not make it a proper blog instead of using Google Docs? You could plunk down a Jekyll blog on GitHub Pages or use WordPress.com or something. It would be more visible and easier to read.

A section on the forums would also be a good place for admin logs.
