God damn, these are handy. Thanks totemo!

Again, my opinion here, but no, we should not. Vanilla minecraft get's boring, and it has its flaws, we need to accept these as facts and find ways to better improve upon it. Vanilla is a boring flavour anyways. Let's not be afraid to at least mix in a few chocolate sprinkles.

I can't see a defined reason to keep the /unenchant command, as smilers plugin effectively does the same thing, with the only requirement being that you are at an enchantment table - perfectly reasonable to me. I have no strong opinions for or against removing the /unenchant command, and as such, would prefer to then see it removed, simply due to it being redundant. Beyond that, I feel Enchantism will be the fix we've always wanted for enchanting. It'll allow for a more direct path to the enchantments you want, drastically cutting out the grind time, and hopefully put more aptly geared players on the field of battle.

personally, I am NOT against 'hopholes' or any other term that they may be called, for a plethora of reasons, most of which have already been brought up. It's a defense made by players, similar to the drop traps in every base on survival. While I understand that many players see it as someone 'bitching out' of a fight, It's still protecting your gear via legitimate means. Beyond that, what'd define a 'hophole' ? Because I can fall in my own front-door drop trap with hoppers, and chest all my stuff via that. It's meant to keep players out, but it'd serve the same purpose. Enforcing a rule such as this effectively would require the elimination of those as well, because they too can be used for that. Players have every right to protect their gear - this methods only a little faster than the "oh shit take everything and chest" method of doing so, and for that, I say nay. I'd prefer not to see em banned.

Survival [AC -> PMC] Organising our modreqs a little better
Draykhar replied to Tharine's topic in The Archives
I know I'd appreciate moderators being able to see the modreq page. I know I field a good chunk of "what was my request for again" questions, making that more accessible would be highly beneficial, and - at worst - we can hide or password protect them if it becomes a serious issue. Denevien covered the points I can think of. -
Unbanned. Welcome back, slug!

I figured it was time to move this over to the forums instead of IRC, we're not oft all on at the same times, so the main function isn't there, and it doesn't really allow for a longer discussion medium. I think it’s fair to say that a large portion of the staff has been on different pages for a while, and I’d like for us to start working towards what I view as community issues. Call me raising hell, rabble-rousing, whatever. I’m not really concerned about that. We need to settle down and reach some sort of agreement. By this point, I think it's well known that there are contentions with the way things are organized at most echelons of the server. Players (myself included) want to know who's doing what, what changes are coming up, and, to put it most directly: what each persons roles in the servers are. They understand that there's separating levels of moderation, but they're largely pushing to see what those do, and how they can be involved in them. I cannot speak for everyone with this, so I'll merely extrapolate on my own contentions a bit, I'd greatly appreciate you all considering my concerns and as peers and go forth from there, be it in open discussion or re evaluating what we consider a ‘community’. To begin, I think we need to better understand the difference between the different types/levels of moderation. I understand that I probably step outside my bounds as a server admin plenty - One recent example is the poll I started on the forums regarding the up/downvote system. it wasn’t my intent to have them immediately removed, but rather to properly channel something many players had mixed opinions on. In retrospect: I'm not a tech, that's not my place. While I try to encourage people to speak up for changes they want, I really ought to have left that to jcll or any other tech that works with the forums - that’s their department, and they can hear what people want just as well as I. We, as players and staff, need a better understanding of what each of us is responsible for. It better allows for an understanding of expectations, be it people overstepping them, or not living up to them. While I understand that we're all players, and we can't /really/ be expected to 'be mods all the time', becoming a member of the staff ought have expectations with it, beyond the typical 'don't abuse your powers'. Becoming part of the moderation crew, even more so for admins, is an expectation that you'll be at least somewhat actively contributing to the betterment of the three servers. Be it something small like moderating the subreddit, or something massive like keeping the servers up to date and running, if we're not doing anything with our abilities, we should re-evaluate why we are part of the staff. I understand that we're not robots, we're not machines, but a lot of the issue that I see with players complaining of either inactivity of moderators or admins stems from the fact that nine out of ten things we do they don’t even see. It’s discussed behind the scenes and then abandoned or implemented accordingly. Players complain that we’re not doing anything, not because they don’t appreciate it, but because they actively have any hand in it. Most of us put a lot of sweat, blood, and tears into these servers, without the fruits of our labors being even noticed. To fix this, we both need to be more open with the community of what we’re doing, be more reciprocal of their suggestions, and moreso, be actively looking for suggestions. We’re only a small majority of the group, albeit a trusted group. We don’t see everything, we don’t have every view on every issue, it’s important to at the very least hear the ideas people bring forth, even if we disagree with, and ultimately dismiss them. In the end, they’re all really just wanting to be more involved in their community. We survival admins have been working towards a middle ground with that, at least for issues regarding survival. We, with massive help by players, have brought forth numerous threads, polls, and are working towards Survival meetings every two weeks. I recognize all of this is causing some grief on some issues, and I’d like to make a point to personally apologize for that. It’s not been my intent, in any channel - Mumble, irc, in-game, forums, etc - to cause grief. I think it’s time that we take the opinions of others more seriously with the changes we've planned. At the very least, this is going to be the way survival is moving with its current administration on board. I was going to post this in modchat public, where I feel it should be. But I feel no one would comment on it, and it’s sort of an overreach on my part. So for now, It’ll be here in Admins. I implore you to reflect on what I’ve said and voice your opinions beyond that.

Protections on Survival. Shut up and read it first >.<
Draykhar replied to c45y's topic in Minecraft General
Brought up forever ago via the subreddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/mcpublic/comments/1bjr37/a_neat_idea_i_had_regarding_pvp/ As i said then, I'd be very happy to give it a try, but it'd probably be much different than what I suggested there, and probably for the better. -
Hello monfmonf. I'll be finishing up this ban appeal. Tharines been busy with worlds of other stuff currently planning for the upcoming rev. Regardless, your ban appeal needs to be handled quickly and efficiently. For that I apologize. As you well know, we can only ban by observation. Totemo and Tharine both have viewed these edits as xray, and after viewing them for myself, I stand behind their opinion: These diamonds were not obtained legitimately. Your hacks after that only enunciated it. You are banned for four weeks for the xray. All of your edits within such immediate time as logblock allows have been rolled back, the diamonds you once found demolished, and your inventory now cleared. For your blatant disregard of the 'no hacks' rule you have been given a further week.Myself, Tharine, and 1-2 other mods all viewed it. You've seen the screenshots and admitted to it yourself, I don't see a reason to go beyond that. You know better than that. I don't feel that logging to avoid combat, or a few other things you did, play substantially into this ban, so I'd like to give you a polite reminder on both points: Pestering moderation about your ban appeal via Mumble (or any medium other than the ban appeal itself) is not okay, and will result in a kick/ban from there as well. Furthermore, logging to avoid combat is not permissible. To bring it in: Ban for monfmonf on c.nerd.nu for Xray; Extensive hacked client usage; Logging to avoid combat nerd.nu/appeal by Tharine on 2013-06-10 06:04:01 Time set to: 1 Month, 1 Week. Please reappeal no sooner than July 15th and we'll see that you are unbanned. I'll leave this post open until about this time tomorrow for any closing words for anyone involved.

Matthew 16:18 - And I say also unto thee, That thou art Steve, and upon this rock I will build my Carrot; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Noticed a lot of people complaining about the upvote/downvote system on here, and how it doesn't really set up for apt discussion, largely for the same reasons the subreddit does. Figured I'd do a little crowd polling and better see what peoples opinions of it are.

Hello slug. As you well know, editing other players builds on Survival is only permissible to do temporary modifications to other players builds during pvp, and must be replaced afterwords. Anything else is considered grief. Putting slug eyes on multiple peoples bases, regardless of whether or not you thought they'd be okay with it, is NOT okay. It constitutes as grief. You know full well better than that, and quite honestly I'm fucking ashamed to have to ban you for this. I understand that you wanted a reprieve from the servers, and felt a study ban wouldn't have been enough. Next time: ask for a study ban, we can arrange a length before hand if you're uncomfortable being able to terminate your ban with a simple request. I was going to give you a day per eye, but as it's been already beyond the 12 or so I found, please quote which rule you broke from the rules page (http://www.redditpublic.com/wiki/Rules) and quote back here with which one(s) you've broken. I'll see you're unbanned tonight. Ban for slugfrompluto on c.nerd.nu for editing other players Builds on S nerd.nu/appeal by draykhar on 2013-06-02 01:36:49 (no more bans, no notes)

To clarify, you pvp logged on a few people for this one. In two separate instances from what I understand. The one I noticed:You were below crouched in a cave, after a chase from four, N00ble. Tornado, and Tharine, Four and n00ble cut off, but Tharine and tornado were still within ~20 blocks of you. during one of those instances, tornado logs out, and immediately back in, Seems to be a lag issue, but I can understand you logging out with that, under the assumption you didn't realize you still had other people looking for you. I'm willing to reconsider this one as a warning, in cases of further bans. This one was going to be a week anyways, and it's been past that. Unbanned. Welcome back.

draykhar here with another rule he's not quite happy with, but will settle for an re-explanation of it for now. "don't be a dick" This rule is oft misquoted as a rule that a player cries to whenever someone (or something) is treating them unfairly, whether it be a grinder in the end, a base blocking theirs, or the current situation of some other rules (i.e. killing someone via certain circumstances on S). "You're being a dick, you can be banned for that you know" This is not the case with that rule. I'd like to extrapolate on it. The 'don't be dick' rule is there to cover things that are not already covered in the rules. That's not to say that you're going to be banned for whatever reason we think of, but rather that all lists of rules, laws and regulations are fallible, and don't foresee every circumstance - particularly more so when they're rarely modified. I'm not asking for an update on the rules here, but a better understanding of the 'don't be a dick' rule (at least as I've understood it) would be: Discuss.

There's a lot in here, I'm going to try and compile my opinions in a reply and get back to you.

What if we combine these two, and invert the problem? What if beds came back in full effect? and if you're killed at/near your bed within a certain amount of time upon spawning / amount of times It throws you to spawn instead? Takes out spawncamping from both potential ends, and takes out the 'randomization' of spawning somewhere unknown in the over world. I like the idea of bringing beds back on Survival. Feel free to add whatever opinions you have of that and what it would look like, but try and keep focus on 'spawn camping' , what it is, and how the rule should properly represent it -- If beds were to be implemented, this is the one rule that would likely need the most serious rework.
-
Spawn campings been a rarely brought up issue, but a legitimate concern on S. Not being able to leave spawn is frustrating and essentially leaves you unable to play. You can't get home, you can't get items. What can you do about being spawn camped? Most players make a modreq, or log off. Usually both. In entirety, the rule for no spawn camping states: No spawn camping. It leaves a lot up to the imagination to discern what constitutes as spawn camping. It leaves the even more undescriptive 'Don't be a dick' rule in the dust by a word(but alas, different rule for a different thread). How long is considered 'camping'? Can I kill you once, then let you pass? Three times? Never? Once at one drop, once at another? What if I wait at the edges of whatever area, and kill you there? And for that matter, where is it considered 'spawn'? We can assume it's not the areas where you physically cannot hit people, but somewhere beyond the first drop. is it right below them, or that whole island? Or is it the second drops? Maybe the whole center square? I'd like to open this rule up to the community for criticism. What do you think this rule means - feel free to tear it apart -, and how can we better phrase this rule?

Thank you, I appreciate you responding in a timely manner. Unbanned.

This is a joint-post by Draykhar and Tharine. [Tharines bit] There's actually quite a bit that went into issuing this ban, but rest assured that this by no means suggests that it will be a lengthy one. The most recent event that pushed things over the edge and warranted us issuing this ban was the house that you recently made in the nether. You had initially made a modreq to inquire as to whether you could claim the land, and the response was a curt and wholly appropriate "You've read the rules on Land claiming. use your own judgement.". This is one of several instances over the course of the past week where either of the Survival admins have had to remind you about the guidelines surrounding land claiming, and that making modreqs is not necessary when the land is empty. For this particular incident, you had mined out a portion of the netherrack and apparently happened upon an ender chest. Taking a look at this [http://i.imgur.com/z9qpFeS.png] (where the glass represents what blocks would have been unedited prior to your own), it's clear that the ender chest was visible both directly from above (perhaps missed at a glance), and/or when you first mined out that area. Instead of stopping to inquire about how to proceed once finding something that belonged to another player, you continued editing and eventually made your entire house around that ender chest, finally making a modreq to say: "This isnt my E-Chest, May i have it? or does the owner need to come get it.". It should be clear that you cannot claim other players' items like this, same as how you cannot claim other players' bases as your own. It's gotten to the point where myself and draykhar are having to near-constantly monitor or respond to your actions on the server, and it's draining both time-wise and mentally to have to deal with this sort of thing on such a frequent basis. [Draykhars bit] On that, your actions over the last week have merited us pulling you aside and having this discussion. You need to get a grasp on the rules. Within the past week you've gotten two notes: Note #31610 for graymansnel on c.nerd.nu: Further warned that rule breaking in the absence of moderators is still not allowed (warned via mumble) by Tharine on 2013-05-30 20:49:19 Note #31848 for graymansnel on c.nerd.nu: Extensively warned about rules at length. Do not tolerate any rule breaking from this user. by Tharine on 2013-06-06 02:59:08 Those notes portray, over the period of a week, what accumulates to hours of discussion with you about the rules, going in depth over the same rules repeatedly. We've had discussions with you what land you can and cannot claim on survival, and then have had issue with you breaking that at least twice this week. On both instances, you claimed land, broke ground, found things placed by others/ other peoples builds, and then continued building. As we've said plenty of times in mumble: If someone else has built there, you are not to build there - that's what land claims boil down to. In the future, if you are beginning to build on a plot and find something that isn't yours: STOP, make a modreq, and leave that plot of land alone until it's handled. We'd like to think everyone on S put's wholly visible borders on their builds, be it underground redstone, a base in the sky, or a chest in the nether, but that is not always the case. We've had to further explain the rules with you because others put into your mind that breaking the rules when a moderator isn't around or it isn't traceable is A-okay. That's a nonsensical idea. We expect each player to raise themselves up to the standard of rules we have set, regardless of whether someones looking over there shoulder at their every move. We've had to dispel constant rumours flared up by you that 'S is resetting in a week'. S is not resetting in a week, as we told you every time you brought it up, and saying such doesn't expedite the process in any way. All it does is put unnecessary stress on the people working towards the new Rev. We've had to warn you to be more appropriate in mumble on nearly a daily basis. I'm all for being silly and having a good time, but a line has to be drawn somewhere. We've warned you that you've crossed that line repeatedly, both casually and formally. Many players have complained and even moved channels to get away from the often uncomfortable dialogue you bring to mumble. If you've been warned repeatedly, and people are moving specifically to avoid such conversation, it is apparent that something needs to change. To bring this all to a point: It's exhaustive to deal with this. We've got far more productive shit to do with our time than re-read you the rules every time you're confused/out of line. It's frustrating to explain the rules to a player repetitively and them still not get it. We appreciate you coming to us with your concerns, but at the same time most of them can be covered by reading the rules. As such, please read the rules (nerd.nu/rules). Read them very well. I'd like you to post back here stating that you understand them, and can better adhere to them from here on out. After you do such, we'll see that you are unbanned. Thanks, Draykhar and Tharine

I appreciate your honesty, Mathew170. Unbanned
