I can probably name a couple people who have attempted this in the past and yet they get treated the same way when they come back. Don't act like all of the blame falls on them, part of it falls on the people pointing fingers because "there's no possible way that person has changed". It happens in real life and what happens? The person reverts back to the way they used to be. I would know, it happened to me, and it sucks. I was an outcast because of it, and despite my efforts of showing people I had changed at the time, I still had people pointing fingers at me calling me names. What happened to me? I reverted back to the way I was over time because I just gave up trying to prove them wrong. So yes, while some people need an attitude check, it's the people pointing fingers who need to keep their mouth shut when they come back. It's something that takes effort on both sides.

I'm assuming if the player being accused of imitating is new to the server (as in, just joined and someone's complaining because they have a similar name to them), it wouldn't be considered harassment? I can see how that could go wrong, because anyone can hop on a proxy and an alt and feign innocence, but I'm also assuming this is a case by case thing, no?

I don't know, personally, if I went to a server who had a staff member with a similar name to mine, and I kept being asked to change my name, I'd just leave. I've had my name forever, I've gone by this name for years, why is it any fair for me to be made to change it?

In light of a couple semi-recent bans and a recent post on the subreddit, I'm proposing a few questions to the staff: What will you do when someone with a similar name to a staff member, who's never been on the servers before or even know of the people/server, joins? Are they gonna get banned on the spot? Are you going to tell them to change their name or leave? How is that any fair to the person? While the probability of it actually happening may be low, I am curious as to how this would be handled.

That's because I seem to be the only one to speak up about it publicly. edit: I do take breaks periodically, but I enjoy a lot of people here and I want to help restore the community as much as I can.

This is my point. Wow, rude much? I'm fed up enough to want to leave, but people leaving/being driven away is part of what's killed the community to begin with. Just because he's not part of the servers doesn't mean he's not part of the community. Nerd is much more than Minecraft, IRC, and Mumble.

Why? It's not hurting anybody to have it there. Leave the kid alone, he has to deal with enough shit on here already. I get grouped with people I hang out with simply because I hang out with them, and that in itself is a part of the problem when it shouldn't be. People automatically assume I'm going to act like them when I don't. You can't judge someone fairly by who they hang out with. But then there's the other problem - your "fun" is different from mine, and Mags, and Eehee's, and Four_Down's, and TornadoHorse's, and Tobylane's, and everyone else's. Why the hell should our "fun" be limited to what the a certain group thinks is fun? We're a community, we're gonna have our little groupies, we're all gonna find fun in different things. Yeah, I get that there are times when things cross the lines, but at this point, nobody's willing to compromise so that at least, everyone can be a little bit happy. We get ignored or not taken seriously when we're being serious. It's starting to feel like "conform to us or we ban you". Fuck, I can't even say what I want to half the time because people are overly sensitive and would insist I'm trying to "start drama".

Honestly, it makes them look as bad as the trolls that supposedly drove them off.
