  1. School's over so I should be around more.
  2. I agree. It'd be great if this was something that was left to the interpretation of whoever was doing the req, and not some "only things x blocks from player placed blocks can be protected" thing.
  3. The holiday season is here, and we would like YOUR help to make spawn more festive. For the next two weeks we'll be running a contest to make the best gosh darn gingerbread house you can. At the end of the contest we'll pick the top three entries and put them around spawn. Info: -The contest starts now -The contest will end at 11:59pm EST on December 18th -The contest will take place on C at c.nerd.nu -You can reach the contest area by typing /warp gingerbread -You can claim a plot by standing in it and typing /nerdplot claim -The plots are huge, but you can use as much or as little as you like -Feel free to build with friends We can't wait to see what amazing builds everyone comes up with! If you have any questions, post here or ask a CAdmin. -CAdmin Team
  4. edit: i hadn't refreshed the page after reading your first post and didn't see your second one before replying oops. you can probably ignore most of it. i was talking more about game balance than the spawners themselves. part of the problem is that almost any way you do it big towns like rose will have a better chance of getting them. if they're hidden in the ground, towns have more people to dig to find them. if its a lottery, towns have more people to enter it. server rewards almost always reward towns. i'm not sure how to get around that besides intentionally giving spawners to small groups of players or individuals. original post more about game balance that probably isn't related: i do feel pretty qualified to talk about rails and iron, considering i probably crafted and placed more rails than almost anyone the preceding five revs. in 14 i dug my own personal 3x3 tunnel about 3000 blocks and made a two way rail in it using the iron i got from digging. i don't think that took more than a week. maybe two. i had so much ore left over i just ran around throwing diamonds and iron at people the rest of the rev. never used any kind of grinder to get iron (mostly because i didn't know where they were). I probably spent about half of my 12 hours of this rev mining, and the ore distributions seem pretty comparable to that. I've been mining about 700 blocks at a time and coming back with 1.3-1.5 stacks of ingots , which is enough for about 250 blocks of rail. Even if ore distributions are worse this rev, which i don't think they are, I've always personally thought things should be more scarce. In three revs of running smart rails, simply by asking for people's leftover iron we were never in need and after a few weeks could just focus on getting the rails up and ignore mining. Which was nice, but once grinders were up we'd have more iron than we knew what to do with. It's always seemed like there was too much of it. In your post above you said: A big part of survival minecraft is gathering the materials you need for a project. I think its a good thing if that isn't so easy. A lot of people build their thing for the rev then leave and wait for next rev because they get bored. If it takes them a little longer to build and they end up sticking around a bit longer that's a good thing.
  5. if people want more iron for rails just bump the amount of rails you get per batch. that'd encourage rail building while not over-saturating the server with iron. but its like what, two weeks into the rev? not everywhere on the map is supposed to be connected by rail this soon. just get people to coordinate hub cities/stations and draw up a nice map of how to go around on various regional rails. there's no real other reason to need a bunch of iron (except for hoppers for auto sorters which are the devil) so that should take care of the problem. but really, P goes from the "dirt hut barely getting by" phase to the "we're building a utopian metropolis" in about two days. i don't think that needs to happen any faster.
  6. With school ending I've got a lot of work to do. I'll still be around some, just a lot less.
  7. Since you seem to have taken this seriously and have had plenty of time to think about things you are unbanned.
  8. We have begun planning for for Rev 32 and would like your feedback. In addition to the poll above, please answer the following questions: Are there any biomes that there should be more or less (or none) of? What did you like about the current map? What did you dislike about the current map? Are there any rules we should add/change/remove for next rev? If you have any comments about any of the poll questions feel free to include those in your post. General thoughts and comments on how we can improve the server are also welcome. We anticipate Rev 32 to start some in January, and as always we will announce the specific date 1 month in advance. Thanks for your time and input! - The Creative Admin Team
  9. Bard has been working on getting the plots ready and they should be up soon.
  10. This is one of the two plots in question, which I'm assuming was yours because it's next to your other one. As you can see it has no recorded edits which means it hasn't built in for at least a month. Maybe we're talking about different plots?
  11. Avada, if you would like to rewrite your post without all of the passive-aggressive jabs I would be more than happy to respond to it, because as you said "I'm confident that we can work through this issue diplomatically rather than in a passive aggressive fashion." For the record I did read your other replies in this thread. Inactivity for plots follows the same rules as inactivity for regions. Even if you're active on the server, if you don't build in claimed land for one month it's subject to be removed. At the time we looked at those plots, neither plot had anything built in it.
  12. If you didn't know, we have a command called /suggestion-box that lets users anonymously submit suggestions that the admins can then read. We recently had a CAdmin meeting and here are our responses to the suggestions that were in the box by that date (10/22). The suggestion will be bolded, and our response to it after. /op ppgome - After much discussion, we decided not to op ppgome at this time. bigger nether >_< - The nether radius has been increased to 500 Allow spectator mode for players working underground - We're going to say no to this for a few reasons. Anything like a secret or maze would be pointless if people could just fly through walls. There's also similar potential for abuse as with invisibility potions. remove motd code that disables cave mapping in client map mods for underground build - Challenger is going to look into figuring out where this is blocked. Will update on this later. have an /afk command. indicate afk-status on the tab-menu (opt-in) - Challenger has written us an afk plugin that marks on the user list when someone is AFK. It will be enabled after a certain time afk, or can be done manually with /afk. make standmaster allow fine-tuned placement, for off-center stands - We can ask the person who made this about it, however there'd be issues making sure people couldn't move stands that weren't theirs, and making sure they can't move stands into regions they aren't on. Will update on this later. realized it isn't the creative motd script blocking cave mapping, its the lobby - This relates to 4. Will update on this later. please make a clanchat version of /ignore - Clanchats are opt in only. If you don't want someone in your clan chat make a private one and don't invite them. We don't want to put extra work on techs to solve something that is already solvable other ways. Disable Elytra flights during speedbuild inside Speedbuild Arena, please thank you - It's not possible to disable the elytra flying plugin at certain places or for certain users. We're looking into reducing the radius the sound goes out in so that you'd only hear your own elytra, or one that flew right next to you. /clanchat ignore <player> - Responded to in 8. add cloth:razzeh - lol add a /discord command, like /mumble and /irc - This is a thing now! There's an alert about it, too. allow compass usage in the spawn region - We're going to continue to deny compass use in spawn, both to protect spawn secrets and to encourage new joins to fly by the rules and hopefully read them. put the suggest a mod page in the daily announcements so the public is more aware - Alert about nerd.nu/applyformod has been added. make item frames available without the use of a modreq - While item frames are better about lag now than they used to be, we still don't feel they're to a point where we feel comfortable letting them be placed freely. We looked into whether it'd be possible to let them be placed in regions someone was on, but unfortunately its not. when somebody joins 1 minute before a restart, they should get an alert about it - We feel that the current notification at one minute and the ten second countdown are enough. There's always /nextrestart if you're worried about when the next restart is. Those were all the suggestions in the box at the time when we had our meeting. If you've submitted one since then it will be replied to at a future date. Replied to suggestions will be removed from the box to clean it up, but this record of requests and responses will remain here. If you have any questions or comments feel free to post them here or in another /suggestion-box.
  13. Those plots were removed from you because, by your own admission, you have five plots that are "yours," which is three more than allowed by the rules, and three more than any other user has. They were removed from the other users for being inactive for long enough that their claim could be removed per our inactive claim policy. Those players are more than welcome to claim their plots back and build in them but they will not be given to you. The purpose of Spawn City as I understand it is to showcase builds from a variety of players close to spawn. To help ensure that anyone who wants to has a chance to build there we keep the limit low at the start of the rev so one or two people don't take all the plots. Raising the limit is something we can have a conversation about, and is perhaps overdue this far into the rev. However, you went about bringing this up entirely the wrong way. Instead of seeing a rule in place that you wanted to change and making a thread like this to talk about it you took it upon yourself to bypass the rule, only making this thread when you got called out on it. While I agree with your idea that the plot limit should be raised, I take issue with some of the things you said in your post. On September 19th you had a user who doesn't play on our server use an alt account to join for the first time, claim a plot for you, and then leave never to be seen again. I can provide the logs for this if requested. To me this shows that you were just trying to get around the limit however you could and is basically the definition of abuse. I don't see how those two things are related, but regardless that isn't what we think. We're fine with raising the limit, just as far as I know no one's asked. There was one person who asked a month into the rev but we weren't ready to raise it then. If someone had asked since then we probably would have done it. Like I said earlier, the two per person rule is there for the start of the rev to give everyone who wants to the chance to build, and we're totally fine with raising it after the rev has been around for a while. No cadmin has more than the allowed number of plots, most of us have less. I'm not really sure why you would said something that just isn't true. I have one suburb plot, Hollifer has one downtown and one suburb, Bard has two downtown and one suburb, Toker has one suburb plot, and even if you include Challenger he has only one suburb plot. For the record three cadmins were online at the time that conversation was happening and we all agreed on that. Like I said above a few times, we do want people to build in spawn, which is why we have a limit at the start of the rev to give everyone a chance to build. What you want Spawn City to be and what it is are two different things. If you want it to be a place where anyone can build as much as they want that's a conversation we can have, but that's not how it is now. They don't count as part of your total. We gave you that land as a way to encourage you to build there instead of bypassing the plot limit, but in a place that was still "in" the Spawn City area. A lot of new users are only used to plotted servers, so having land available for them to claim might make it more likely they'll stay. If its not completely full half way through the rev its not the end of the world. I think the rule is clear, don't claim more plots then you're allowed to. They perhaps could be more flexible, which is something we can talk about. Those two players are more then welcome to go claim their plots back if they want to build in them. tl;dr If you want a rule to change then ask about it, don't break it then get upset when you get called out.
  14. The winners of the contest were Haiku, Kimbana, and Dumbo52. Their pumpkins are currently right outside spawn.
  15. Try //g, which apparently has been enabled this whole time but nobody knew.
  16. Contest is closed. Thanks for everyone who built. Winners will be announced at Speedbuild this weekend.
  17. Since some people were still building we're extending the contest until Wednesday night.
  18. I plan on being there as long as the hurricane doesn't knock out power or internet, but I won't know if that's going to happen until it does.
  19. To answer your statement, I don't have a problem with you coming to the community meeting as long as you're not disruptive in any way.
  20. This isn't the first time you've been in trouble for this. You have a previous warn for harassment in all-chat eight months ago, as well as this recent ban appeal for harassment among other things. You were banned this time for harassing another user in chat from the moment they logged in until they left because they didn't want to deal with you anymore. There are two things that really bothered me about this, even though the actual harassment wasn't anything particularly harsh. One is that the user you were harassing was much younger than you. You started in on them thinking they were 4 years old, then when it turned out to be their older (but still much younger than you) brother on the account you continued. The second thing is that you seemed to take pride in harassing him and other younger users on C, which you bragged about in genchat and clanchat. You also fell back on your habit of trying to police the server, accusing the user of griefing and ban evasion in general chat. In your previous appeal you agreed to the following two terms: You will not respond to things that annoy you with extreme anger, threats, insults or harassing behaviour, and if you feel yourself getting angry you will log off to calm down. You will not try to police the server, players or staff and will instead stick to creating, building and having fun. Both of these things you did in this situation, and by your own admission you've been harassing other users as well. Harassing other users to the point they don't want to play is not "the way things work." The rules apply equally to everyone and you can't pick and choose which ones you want to follow. I could ask you to type out that you know what you did was wrong, but we've been through that before. It hasn't worked, and it doesn't seem like you think you did anything wrong so I don't see the point. I just really want you to take some time away from Nerd to think about your behavior and the way you treat others. Your ban is set at 10 days. Reapply on the 13th and you will be unbanned. Any future harassment or anything similar will result in a ban length of a minimum of one month.
  21. I just wanted to let you know that I've seen this and will post my reply tomorrow.
  22. My original post is below this paragraph, but I wanted to clear up what I think may be a misconception. The way I interpret allowing both Discord and Mumble for voice is that we would try both at the same time, see which people like more, then fully go with that one whichever it is. Its like when we switched staff stuff from IRC to Slack. A lot more people used Slack than IRC, so we officially switched. If we had the same low usage on Slack that we had on IRC then it wouldn't have been worth it to switch. In this situation if more people use Discord than use Mumble currently (which honestly is pretty dead most of the time) then we'd switch. If we have similar numbers then we won't switch. I agree that having both on long term is a bad idea that would split the community. It's perceived as useless because, from the point of view of someone not on staff, we've disabled what's pretty much the core functionality of Discord for seemingly no reason. I think this might be one of those things that staff is out of touch with the playerbase on. I've never heard a player say "I'm glad voice is disabled on Discord because I really love mumble," just responses somewhere between "That's dumb" and "I guess that makes sense." Here are the three reasons main I've heard other staff telling players why we're not trying Discord voice: 1. There's no Linux app, so they can't use global PTT 2. Discord has no long-term financial plan and could just disappear one day 3. Older players get on mumble sometimes 3 honestly isn't worth talking about because we should be focusing on our current and future players, not waiting around for the twenty minutes a year some old staff member decides to show up again. 2 is a legitimate concern, but couldn't we always just boot up the mumble server again if Discord goes away? IT's not like mumble stops existing if we try discord. 1 is also a legitimate concern, though I'm assuming the percentage of players that use Linux is small, and there is a Discord Linux app in the works. I don't use Linux so I couldn't say how well it works. If someone who does wanted to try it out and let us know (specifically about global PTT) that'd be great. I don't see why we wouldn't at least try Discord to see what kind of engagement we get. Letting our boners for "the way things have always been" get in the way of potentially increased player interaction (keeping in mind that more player interaction leads to more player retention) would be stupid. One other note. If we really want people to use discord for text then we as staff need to stop using Slack for general talk and use Discord. We should get rid of #genera, and use Slack for staff questions/comments/discussions that shouldn't be public. EDIT: Another thing that was mentioned in the staff meeting (I think) was that we have a ton of channels on Discord and the discussion is really spread out. Maybe we could do a cleanup?
  23. Regardless of what we as staff think, though most of us seem to be for or indifferent toward it, there's been a ton of people who have said something along the lines of "No voice enabled on discord? Then what's the point of having it." If its something users want and would possibly actually use, I think we should at least give it a go. Preferably sooner than later, before people just associate discord with being "useless."
  24. What about them would you like brought up as far as what to do about them?
