  1. I'll be gone with no access to a computer from March 3rd to March 7th.
  2. Can we get "The Better AFK Channel" renamed back to "Dota 2"? EDIT: Fixed
  3. Iron grinders: They need to be limited in some way. There's way too much iron out there. Couple ideas: Increase the cost of each upgrade Decrease the spawn rate at all levels Only allow upgrades after a certain period of time The nether: Nether is pretty neat. Custom flora: It'd be nice if the logs were more connected so that cutting down a tree isn't a scavenger hunt Portals: Seem pretty good so far. Would have liked if they weren't placed until a week in instead of not activated until a week in. Ore distributions: Nerf diamonds just a little. Feels like its way too easy to get a bunch of them. Would also help balance golem spawners. MapWorld: Yes. Maybe add a doublechest that's one below surface level in each plot so users have a place to store materials in it. If it's one below ground you could only access it if you're on the plot which would mean no extra work when assigning plots. Terrain: I really like the change considering the last three revs were really flat and uninteresting. The volcano and Titty Mountains are really neat, it'd be cool to see more unique stuff like that spread out across the map. Maybe a bit less ocean. Spawn: Spawn was pretty good. Like the secrets, food was good, bit smaller than last rev. Lets go for even smaller next rev! (At least in the x and z directions) Custom mobs: Custom mobs are cool. It'd be nice if eventually every mob had a rare custom type. Friendly mobs could have some too. Cows that you use bottles on and get a potion, chickens where if you kill the special one you get swarmed by chickens a la Zelda, sheep you can sheer for full durability chainmail gear, etc. I would like to see Dr Cuddles changed in some way. Right now its like getting facedstabbed by an invisible Spy. Let his name be seen from farther away, add a short fuse, have it do just enough damage to kill anything less than full diamond armor. Something to allow some sort of counterplay. /help: Everything in /help should be available on a webpage for easier browsing. Would also allow for more in-depth explanations for things that need it.
  4. I'm glad that you realize that what's appropriate around your friends might not be appropriate on the server. Since that's the main thing I wanted to hear from you I'll go ahead and unban you. Just make sure you think before you sign in the future.
  5. One thing I do like about this change is that you can't move the portals, so wherever you find it is where you have to build.
  6. Honestly I think its time we ditch Mojang's portal system and write one of our own. I understand that writing a plugin takes time and effort, so we wouldn't have it for this next rev, but Mojang's way of doing portals doesn't work well with the kind of server we have and it'd be good for the server in the long run to have more control over it. Some ideas for custom portals: Cooldowns, where on exiting the nether you can't reenter for a period of time Sacrificing xp/items to enter the nether Being able to enter the nether from any portal but only exit from certain ones, or the other way around, can exit from any but only enter from a few Different types of portals, e.g. portals where you can only exit through the portal you entered from, portals that let you enter the nether but not exit, portals where if you enter you can only exit from one of the same type, portals that automatically return you to the overworld after a period of time It'd also be nice to adjust the nether ratio to something not as dramatic as 1/8, which would give people who use the nether for resources more of them and give people who like doing roads/rails in the overworld meaning still. It'd also discourage short hops to the next town over via the nether but still make it worth it for longer trips.
  7. >calling seneca a city http://imgur.com/a/6LBek I'm going to refer to the portals by their clock positions: 1 - Very low levels of activity; small town build 2 - Probably the most built up zodiac town; active corner of the map 3 - Not built in since the first week of the rev; no activity 4 - Second most built up zodiac town/area; decent activity 5 - Low to zero levels of activity; hardly anything built 6 - Low levels of activity; small build 7 - I've never been there, but doesn't seem to have changed at all since the build was finish early in the rev 8 - Decent sized town; can't comment on activity 9 - Very little built; no activity 10 - Very little built; low to no activity 11 - Small build; little activity 12 - Decent sized build; little activity In addition out of the four always-on portals only Rose has any real activity, not that they need the portal to help them with that. Even if all the active cities on the server that weren't at portals moved to portals there wouldn't be enough to fill up all of them. And then with every town at a portal, why bother building roads or rails? General thoughts about portals, roads, etc: I think of portals like airplanes; they're for long distance travel. You wouldn't fly a plane to go to the next town over from you, you'd drive or take the train (if you're lucky enough to have one.) At least on our server, I think portals should be reserved for traveling very large distances to encourage a good system of roads and rails. Roads between places are very important because they create places where people will travel along and thing "hey it'd be neat to build something here," just like towns IRL spring up on routes between two major destinations. It also encourages people to stop at builds along the way if they see something neat they want to check out. If they really like what they see maybe they'll join that town. Overland rails serve a similar purpose, in addition to also providing a fast mode of automatic travel between two locations and allowing people to go to places without needing to know the location of where they're going. I don't think portals should be along the cardinals. Cardinal roads will always get built and they're the main way people go out of spawn after joining the server. Any town along the cardinal should get a boost in prospective players just from that, they don't need the portals as well. The portals should be in an X shape instead of a + shape, our far away from the cardinals to encourage growth in those areas. Four portals is a good amount. Maybe 6 but not more than that. It'd be nice if the portals were more towards the edge of the map, or at least no closer than half the map radius. The north and east portals are both 800 blocks from spawn, which is a very easy distance to walk even as a fresh join. It'd also be cool to try not having a spawn portal. Combining that with making the portals fewer and farther away would encourage having more roads and rails to get around places. Before the rev starts the admins could come up with the general areas they want to place a portal, but not actually place them until two weeks in, preferably putting them as far away from any builds in that area as possible. That get rids of the portal rush and encourage building in biomes/locations that people actually want to build in instead of just "we want a portal."
  8. Agree with this. I like both of these. If we can't or don't want to do temp bans I think doing appeals like in #2 this would be much better than the way they're done now. Please no i don't want to spend the first 5 minutes of the rev not being able to look at anything but rules thanks. We can just replace the huge walls of signs of rules in spawn with 2: "Punch this to read the rules" which opens a link to a nicely formatted webpage with the server rules. "I read and agree to follow the rules" which plops you into the world. Like the rules room this rev you'd only have to do that on first join. There could be a slightly different room you get sent to on your first join after a ban which says "make sure to reread the rules so you don't get banned again." General thoughts: I think in general ban lengths should be shorter, like on the scale of hours and days instead of weeks and months. If someone joins just to troll its usually pretty obvious, they'll start spamming racial slurs or server advertisements in chat right away, or have almost entirely grief edits. I think for these people the current system works good. However, if someone actually wants to be a contributing member of the community, just seeing that they're banned will make them think "Gee, I should probably follow the rules so I don't get banned because I want to play on this server. I did a bad thing and I won't do it again." These people don't need any sort of appeal process and a temp ban that automatically expires would be better. Having that private appeal link barney mentioned would be nice for this. It could have what rule the player broke, how they broke it, and maybe a brief statement from the banning mod if the ban length differs from the guidelines i.e. "I banned you for x days instead of y days because of z." I agree with the general idea behind rollbacks, that you shouldn't profit from cheating. I think inventory wipes should stay for everyone. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like most x-rayers are solo players who get caught pretty quickly. Its fine to do the rollback for them, just make the ban length shorter so if they want to come back and play legit its not so discouraging. Four weeks is a long time on the internet. I'd say make it a few days. Either they'll come back and play legit, which means everything's cool, or they'll keep cheating, which means we can be pretty confident in making an indefinite ban that requires an appeal. Personally I feel if you're part of a city/project that you actually care about you should realize that if you x-ray and get caught it's going to fuck things up for the people you're working with, so you shouldn't do it. However, I can also see how much it'd suck to see half your town gone because someone you thought you could trust was cheating. Chasing villagers around is a pain in the ass. So there should be some middle ground. An idea I had was that the other people involved with the build that will be effected are given a list of the materials that will be rolled back, and if they can mine those materials legit and put them in a chest or something, those edits won't be rolled back and the materials get deleted. I don't think there needs to be any set time limit for that as long as it seems like there's an honest effort to get the materials together, that way a town isn't forced to stop everything else they want to do to go mine 30,000 smooth stone. I'm sure someone can come up with a better solution, but I feel like not rewarding the cheating while not unfairly burdening the people who weren't cheating will be the core idea of the best solution.
