  1. I will be hosting a full week of nightly (Edit: 9pm Central) Speed Building Contests from January 25th - January 31st on c.nerd.nu. There will be at least 3 rounds each night that will take place in the official Creative Speed Build Arena. The prize is that the winning builds will be featured in a "trophy room" (until someone donates something else).

I am accepting ideas for the topics for each round, please post your ideas for my consideration in the comments below!

Edit: The final Theme on Friday will be "Redstone".

  2. The topic of "quick clicking" mouse macros (changing your scroll wheel input to left clicks) has been visited on C before and so long as they didn't exceed the NoCheat limits, were allowed by admins at the time. This was particularly important to C miners before the advent of /mode. Now not so much.

I personally think we need a cross server concurrence from head admins on whether we want to continue allowing this. I personally am in favor of allowing auto-clickers under the same justification as Rei's or previously the quick clicking macros. The justification would be the player has not altered the code of the game in any way and the advantage comes from their hardware, which naturally differs from player to player.

  3. My plan is not to delete completed arenas at all, only to create new ones based on a model. I'd plan to make a line of plots to copy, then pasta the selected length the correct number of times for the number of people present to participate. I'd only plan to have these powers while I'm one of the mods responsible for hosting regularly scheduled events. Of course the Admins could do this themselves, but my understanding is that they don't have the manpower or desire to run this event regularly on C. I'm hoping that by granting specific mods this power, we could tap into the larger population of moderators in order to run the event consistently.

To conserve space, arenas will be stacked vertically according to how many sessions the hosting moderator wants to run (I suggest there be 4 sessions an hour, and the length will depend on how frequently we host the events).

  4. I'm considering volunteering my time to run a regularly scheduled 10-minute build contest league on C. How frequent it happens will depend a lot on how much prep work is required to run it. With WE copy and paste commands I could set it up 4 arenas to run in 15 minutes before the contest starts, without it I'm looking at possibly an hour or two of setup. The difference between these is running it weekly vs. bi-monthly for the time I'm willing to put in. Normally WE is Admin only, is there anyway we could modify our policy for moderators running events?

  5. I'm not saying that we're ready to commit the time to running a weekly 10-minute Build Contest League, but if I were considering it, what time during the week would be best for each of you? (Check all that apply.)

Right now I'm considering running a 1 hour contest up to once a week. During the week players can suggest topics, and the topics will be selected by the hosting moderator (for simplicity). There will be 10 minutes for each build with 5 minutes for judging. Let me know if you think there are any critical problems with these general details.

  6. I'm not aware of any specific reason players aren't allowed to use a compass on C. So why not let them have it if they want?

The reason is either some tech stuff I'm unaware of, or more likely that it is a holdover from the old days when players weren't even allowed to fly. I can see there might be some arguments against this as it would prevent players from being able to make private structures, but to that I have to ask why those people are playing on a public server?

  7. I find the rule as written to be amusing and effective. I have enforced this rule in several circumstances.

I could agree to a less controversially stated version of this rule as "Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated." or "Don't do or say anything you wouldn't in front of your mother. Subject to the ideal image of a mother and not your particular mother who may in fact be a total #$%@."

  8. Does it need more redstone (rhetorical question)?

I would be interested in adding a fancy redstone door to the existing area as a foyer, with something bigger to happen behind the door (a multistoried hall with a huge statue of John and various dedications to her on each floor perhaps?). The larger hall would give everyone room to contribute something. Would that be okay with everyone?

  9. To help organize the Redstone Towers players are asked to place their builds within certain categories. Every so often (i.e. every day) players place builds in the wrong categories (e.g. a basic piston door in the AND Gate category ). I would like to ask moderators protecting builds within the Redstone Towers to ensure builds are in their appropriate categories prior to protecting them.

If you encounter a non-compliant build please either contact the player and ask them to move their build to the appropriate category, or feel free to /mail me and I will take care of the move request. Thank you!

  10. Please review the rules here before playing, I may quiz you if I see you in game. Your time waiting to appeal is longer than any punishment I would ascribe to your prior actions and so I will process your unbanning today. Please note that destruction of other players builds and asking for exclusive build rights to another players build are disruptive and will not be tolerated. Thank you!
