  1. We're making progress. Before it was just "here's our idea live with it". Now it's "here's our idea, got any tips on improving it?" We need to reach a stage where we can be like "ey yo yo let's come up with policies together then make them better".

I agree, the community funds the servers, so the community should be entitled to transparency. When I first joined, everything was very transparent, if one had an issue, you could always go to ludeman84 and he would get it resolved without issue and post a forum post about it. A lot of players nowadays feel like any criticism will get them labeled "toxic" or grouped with other players that have criticized the servers as if there was some sort of #conspiracy to destroy the server.

    just sayin'

  2. When players become a staff member they have to be willing to put aside there differences with other players and act maturely when preforming there duties. This of course includes discussing new moderators and then voting on them. Staff members have to put aside personal bias and grudges they hold and legitimately vote on whether or not they think this person will be a good staff member. If a player can not do this then they do not deserve to be on staff.

Do you honestly believe people have ever done this in the history of the election system.

If you think there is bias in staff when our job is not to be bias, how can you expect there to be even less bias in an entire community?

    wat.

  3. While I'm all for this server, I don't really see why /r/minecraft should stick its neck out for us. They are the subreddit for general minecraft, and to be honest I don't really see why they should specifically recommend us. Sure we still call ourselves the "official reddit minecraft servers," but really how true is that anymore?

Yeah, if we provided more content for them, I would see the connection, but really, both communities have diverged greatly. Joining both communities again would cause a lot of drama considering their no-advertising rule. It would make them look like hypocrites to their community. For this reason, I don't see any benefit for them allowing the nerd.nu servers back into their ecosystem without tarnishing their reputation.

  4. Sounds great! How would it be for someone like me who wouldn't ally with or provoke anyone?

A few people that play using your play style have had their bases be "randomly" found. So you need a team effort to if you want to effectively protect your base against grief like that using obsidian blocks that are reinforced with diamond.

The above only applies to casual players which are the majority of the player base.

Both on the subreddit and on the forums, I've been told that you would only need to mine for a few hours to get a reasonable protection, without realizing that most players don't have the patience to do a specific thing for a few hours. Most players are casual players that are playing for fun and not for extreme domination.

Edit: My second base was also suspiciously found.

  5. The Obvious Solution:

Install an actual channel chat plugin. This whole issue could be avoided if an actual fully working chat plugin was installed. Clanchat is not a plugin, it is a script for CommandHelper, it doesn't have nearly as many features as every single channel chat plugin on bukkit dev or the spigot resources page.

Servers with hundreds of simultaneous players don't have these types of discussions because they have actual full featured chat plugins.

Some of us speak other languages other than English 95% of the day, and some of us don't want to read or hear other languages in chat. So having a channel for other languages seems like the absolute best solution.

In my personal case, I speak mostly Spanish with English used occasionally and on the internet.

These are 2 plugins that I found within 30 seconds to 1 minute of searching on dev.bukkit.org. Right off the bat, they have more features than clanchat.

  6. I have heard rumors of players planning to purposefully try to break the coming rev, to exploit any loophole as much as possible, and honestly, it makes me sad to see players planning on trying to destroy Survival, a server that I love and care about. That attitude will do nothing to help the server long term or short.

Who? The most I've heard is Randomdoor saying he was gonna "wreck the rev", but that was an obvious metaphor meaning that he was gonna enjoy it completely and thoroughly. Other than that, I've only seen comments from players stating that they will play the game the way it is designed to be played.

  7. I read the mcpublic Reddit everyday however and did not see the post relating to the server discussions. If I had perhaps I would have taken part and had my ideas ignored there also. Ha. Nah just kidding. I'm sure my points would have been listened too and thoughtfully considered..

  8. The thing is, a lot of these new plugins and features were tested and are being introduced because of discussions and meetings, many of which said server vets participated in.

So you're saying said server vets were for it before they were against it or that they were in the same mumble channel while these changes were being discussed?

The ultimate measure of success of s.nerd.nu MUST be player numbers.  The ultimate survival of Reddit Public depends on the appreciation of the gaming public, because the server owes its continued existence to appreciative donors.

If S transforms into something different from what it has been in the past, that is perfectly fine, as long as people have fun, stay around and enjoy the game enough to support the server financially.

I totally agree, the servers do need more players and a variation of the current game mode to bring players in.  I think we can all agree the reason that vanilla is boring is because it requires a ton of continuous grinding to be end up losing fights quickly or have pyrrhic victories against other people who do the same until they are bored and leave. That explains the immense success of mcmmo+factions plugin based servers and their communities. On those servers, one joins with a very simple survival kit, and players are able to find suitable building areas and expand their factions by forging alliances and building with old friends and new.

Are we really starting with this again? Judging by last revs online stats, I'm more of a survival player than you or PeteLucas. Perhaps if we stopped trying to exclude people, more people would want to play.

I agree, we shouldn't exclude casual players like PeteLucas from the type of players that should play on survival. If things were changed to allow casual players like HCF, more people would want to play.

Survival will die completely if we continue with vanilla. It's a tiny niche that gets smaller every day.

But, the thing is, up until the upcoming map revision, vanilla features like liquid flow were completely disabled. It was a niche made even smaller by the reduction of important vanilla features.
