Yes from my knowledge of this server's history this server was up during Minecraft Alpha, and it has always been called MCPublic, so it was public and I doubt that this server wasn't freeIs it true that we're the oldest free, public minecraft server? If so, I can add that to my pitch when I reply to [Wanted] threads in /r/mcservers.
Edit: Nerd.Nu also had a minecraft classic server back in early 2011 because that's what everyone played when they wanted minecraft multiplayer back then

Since this is a discussion about the banning policies, I would like to ask if we could get the ability to send larger pictures to channels in mumble? If i recalled the picture limit size limit was recently added because of one situation between a group of players. I think just because there was 1 accident like this between players it is a little unfair to remove this privilege from every other user.
Yes, people have crashed other peoples mumble clients including mine by posting large pictures, and then the size limit was put in place. I'm wondering if this size limit can be disabled on 1 channel so people can post pictures and have a laugh, but keep the size limit in place for other channels, like PvE, Creative, Tech Stuff, etc. Anyway that's just my thought on that

Another thing i would like to discuss: I think the ban appeal system is way too public. If a player is banned and would like to appeal their banned it should only be between the banning admin and player in a private thread. It is almost like public shaming a player for what they did wrong to get banned.
Edit: I don't support that idea anymore

Pulling away from that, if we were to implement a chat-filter system, I'd be pleased if saying a banned word also placed a note on the player attempting to say bad things. That way, we can keep track of repeat offenders that could otherwise keep coming back after their temp-bans/jailings.
What would saying a banned word do if this were implemented, I know you suggested it placed a MCBouncer note on them, but would it kick them, tempban them? The only chat filter systems that I've seen on minecraft servers censor cuss words, like someone says f*ck and it gets replaced with that minecraft special random character text.

I actually quite like that idea unce!
Yeah I think something like this, to improve on what we used to have on Survival would work out great. It would be like handling a ban appeal in game
-
What about a jail system? Player gets jailed and must provided the number for the rule that they broke to be released. This system would work for most minor bans and would force the player to read the rules. It could be done easily with a plugin.
Here is an example:
"You have been jailed by [modname] for racism, please use the /unjail [number] command with the number for the rule you broke to be released"
This would show new players that they are not permbanned and would save them the trouble of having to go through the lengthy appeal process.
I thought s.nerd.nu already had a jail system
-
I think that if we keep the current banning system, and add this new tempban option for mods to choose to use if they see fit would work out, like /tempban [Player Name Here] [Time Limit] [Message].So, uh
Regardless of all that,
I think having the ability to make players "cool off" or "sit in time-out" with a tempban, without having to go through a whole ban/appeal rigamarole would be a nice tool for mods to have.

They removed some of those vague rules, like don't be or build a dickThere are a number of vague rules that are completely open to mod / admin interpretation.
I have never seen the rules manipulated to get someone banned before, and I don't think I ever willThe rules are twisted and turned to fit their selected narrative so they can be banned in certain situations.

My solution to this would be to change the ban message and make it say "To get unbanned visit nerd.nu/appeal" or something like that so they do not think that their ban is permanent, although I still think nerd.nu/appeal is enoughThe issue that I spoke about was the fact that this system is almost entirely unique to nerd, and new players don't KNOW that's how it works. They think the ban is permanent, and that the appeals process is like the appeals process in a court of law, i.e., a place to argue their innocence. Like I said,

Some players claim they haven't read the rules at all, which I find ridiculous since they get a free rule book upon joining each server, and can get it again by /rulebook. In some cases they get banned for something they didn't know existed, and then they make an appeal stating that they don't know what they did.Denevien, I think what gsand is getting at is players spend the time to make a forum account, post a ban appeal, and wait for the admin to reply to tell them what they already know.
Even if we explained how appealing a ban works, those people who did get banned and say they didn't know the rules obviously threw that rulebook away when they got it.
I am not sure if here is already a [server] alert saying this but if not, on S, C and P we could put a message saying "Make sure to read the rules before playing, they are avalible at nerd.nu/rules."
Also someone could outline the banning and appeal procedure too and put it in the rulebook, or change the wording of the message you see when you get banned, like "You have been banned, nerd.nu/appeal to bet unbanned!" So they don't think they are permabanned

No it isn't
Yeah 25 bans per page x 4009 pages = 100,225 as you and marting11 said, I spoke too soon

Well I will be back around more now. Unfortunately, due recent health issues and a few hospital visits I have been out of the picture for a little bit. However, I'm back in mostly working condition and should be around now.
I apologize to the community for my lack of activity.
I hope you get well soon Cyotie911!

It's always been there. It doesn't show up when you aren't logged in, once you log in mod chat shows up. Don't worry, it's not a bug or anything like that

What a silly way of dealing with things
It's actually not silly at all, it's a tactic that is used in lots of occasions, if someone is abusing something, like this to get personal information about others, the feature is temporarily disabled until better control over that information is added

Usage stats give me a 403 forbidden error

I agree that user IP's should be hidden from the user login log for security purposes, as I can see problems with that

Thank you, and i'll be playing on creative too, I totally forgot about that

I never originally intended to make a post like this, but now I am just so people don't think i've left and am not coming back.
I have a couple tests coming up that I have to study for and therefore I haven't been able to play minecraft that often. I'll be able to play again in about 2 weeks, then i'll be free to play PvE, Survival, Garry's Mod, and be apart of Whiteoak.

Never heard of "HeartBleed", most of the sites I go to use Microsoft's IIS SSL, so that's probably why

nerd.nu/forum does redirect, next time you go to that page, just hit shift+f5
Thanks, that got it to redirect. Also I just bookmarked it now, thanks for reminding me EeHee
