  1. As some people know, during rev 24 of Survival DementedM0nkey and I created a lets play of the few days we played before everyone left. We decided not to do rev 25 due to the lack of pvp. We recorded around 2-3 hours, and couldn't find anything interesting to really do, so we abandoned the project. However with UHC and a new rev coming this saturday, we have decided to revive our lets play! Rev 26 will be fully recorded (though we tend to cut out the boring parts such as mining, unless our conversations are interesting) as well as UHC being recorded. Not only that, but we are planning to record any organized fights that want to be recorded and possibly commentated on. We're considering doing tours of cities on PvE, and also going through creative and showing off any builds we find highly entertaining. And finally, we're also interested in recording spleef events/matches possibly adding our own commentary as well. If you are interested in getting your city toured, or your build on C shown off, please message me to let me know and we would be highly interested in doing so :] While we're not going to be a strictly minecraft channel, our focus for the most part (at least at first) is going to be showcasing all the servers on nerd.nu. Our new channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/ScrubismGaming
  2. Today, July 13th @ 5 PM EDT, Survival rev 25 will end, and will turn to chaos mode at 5:30 PM EDT. Obligatory cute puppy

Who won this revisions survival arena league? Will they be getting a statue at spawn next rev?
  4. Hi, dizney here again with another survival server idea because I like to brainstorm ideas Most of my ideas stem off of questions I ask myself about the server. This one comes from the "Why do we have pvp rankings?" Of course the main answer is to know who's the "best" at pvp on the server, but most of the server doesn't really follow them that closely or really care. So then I brainstorm a way to increase players desire to be higher on the rankings and I've come up with this: What if the players have something in game, like on their name, that shows where they are? For example, possibly the player in first has a gold clan tag at the front of his/her name that says "1st", second has a silver one, and 3rd has a bronze one. Then the rest of the top 10 would say "Top10" in a different color. Something like this would see players more then likely want to get higher on the list to have something showing they're "better". Also it could influence an increase in pvp on the server. What do you think? It's not really a big change, and I'm not sure if it's even possible, but I just wanted to throw this out there!
  5. The past few days I have been brain storming about ideas for S, while looking at successful servers and even other games. I wanted to make a separate post from my "State of survival" post because I wanted this thread to focus on the opinions of players on my idea and how it would suit S. I'm not pushing to get this implemented, just merely brain storming to create and experience all players can enjoy. First off I wanted to say that after playing this rev, I truly dislike random spawning. This is because in my opinion, it takes away from pvp, and makes it more about surviving and hiding rather then pvp. Even players who enjoy pvp find it hard to find each other unless fights are organized (which I personally don't find as fun or as thrilling as finding someone randomly). Saying this, my idea is actually based around random spawning. The core of my idea was to find away to improve the server as it is right now instead of changing to something completely new. So without further ado: Goodbye Enchanting: I know what you're thinking. "Oh dizney you've always been against enchants blah blah blah" and yeah you're right, I've always been against enchants. But this is different. I'm not saying get rid of enchants, just enchanting. Remove enchanting tables. Make it so the game doesn't revolve around players sitting in a grinder for three hours to get good armor. Now I know what you're thinking again: "dizneypls you cant have enchants without enchanting tables" and you'd be wrong! Anvils. Using enchanted books, you can enchant your gear (however I suggest taking away the need for levels to do this). But you would need to get enchanted books, and where might we find those enchanted books...? Random Loot Chests: This idea I 100% stole from rust. Sue me. Ok don't sue me I don't have money. But this idea suggests that there are chests that drop random loot. Loot that could be enchanted books. This is the core of the idea. If there is a set area (such as an abandoned town) that has chests that randomly generate a different enchanted book every 10 minutes when there isn't enchanting to begin with, then you have successfully created a pvp area. Players will flock to these locations to try and acquire the loot that other players can't get. It centralizes pvp to a certain area, lessening the need to search for players randomly in the wild. This not only benefits players that pvp, but also players who want to stay far away from the pvp action. With players less likely to hunt far away, players are free to live on the outskirts of the map. Now players could be saying to themselves "well dizney, wouldn't the players who receive better enchants be at an advantage?". No. Because if a player has enchanted armor, that's rare. And players love rare items. Meaning they will try and kill the players wearing the armor to receive the loot (ayyy more pvp). "well why would they do that if they're just going to lose their armor" well armor isn't hard to find, and with iron grinders a thing, irons value has dropped alot this rev. Meaning why not risk a little to get a lot? So going back to the locations, how will the players find out where these.. lets say 4 locations that spawn loot are...? BRING BACK THE ROAD: Reread that. It says road. Not roads. I dont want cardinal directions. I want one, small road that makes a circle (or some weird shape) that goes around the map and goes through the 4 locations. This again creates a focal point for pvp. Take the roads to the other locations to find loot? Boom, you meet up with someone else. Do you run, fight or try and make peace? You decide. This can also help newer players with finding people, and can help players who want to avoid pvp by letting them know to not go that way. So with all of this said, a few smaller things have been brought up that I added to this idea: -Make a map. I want a map like PvE's map, however without players being on it. This helps the players know where these locations are, find the roads easier and all around just a nice thing to have. -This next one I'm quoting straight from the other thread: "Static things placed over the map that provide buffs of some form that can be captured and controlled. The buffs would be relatively minor so you don't become a PvP god if you manage to capture them all, but still helpful enough to where you want to go after them. They could serve as attractors to bring people to an area and encourage PvP, and be protected with a decently sized region to discourage building bases around them to make it impossible for others to cap them. " - TheRandomnatrix. I think this a great idea and can be implemented into the four areas. -The End Portal is at 0,0. No more hiding the end somewhere. Why is this a big deal? Because then anyone can go for the dragon, creating more teams, and more enemies as you try to deal with fighting what is supposed to be the hardest boss in the game. I get it, it's a great achievment finding the end and end dragon, but honestly the players who don't care, still aren't going to care in the long run. UNLESS -> -The End Dragon drops good loot. Good enchanted books such as prot IV or sharp V. This encourages everyone to try and fight the dragon, and then creates a tense end when players fight with each other to try and claim the god books. Muahahaha I'm evil. Oh but players who aren't on the first night won't get the chance to fight the dragon. True. UNLESS-> -The End Dragon RESPAWNS. Randomly. Anytime between 24 and 48 hours after being killed. This creates more reason to go to the end and try and farm god books off of the dragon, even though it can only be done once every 1 or 2 days. Well that's about it. I know it's a lot, but I hope I made it entertaining enough for you. Please leave your thoughts and opinions, both positive ad negative. This isn't for me, but for the server that I only want to see improve. -dizney07
  6. I haven't been around the past week, and it seems the development log hasn't been updated in almost two weeks. Are we going to get an update on what is happening behind the scenes at all, such as information on rev 26? It also seems that there isnt much pvp happening on S at the moment. I haven't been on in a week, yet it's showing that I am still 12th on the "rankings" page (which is interesting because when I left I thought I was 13th..). Has anything been discussed in terms of improving the amount of pvp on the server?
  7. So I'm wanting to do a post-rev UHC event, similar to the style of the Mindcrack UHC series. I'm looking for feedback on what y'all would most like it to be. My original idea was this: 5 teams of 3 players 1000x1000 vanilla world that becomes smaller as the event goes on Each team would be randomly spawned together in the world on start I was thinking for team selection, you could submit a team and your combined ranking in the Survival Leaderboards would determine entry. Using the leaderboards to me adds the secondary effect of encouraging PvP during rev. Obviously the leaderboards aren't perfect, but it would remove any partiality. We could potentially stop people from just killing their teammates by excluding those kills from the final leaderboard we use to do the rankings for the event. You can submit just yourself or yourself and a friend as a team and others will be matched up to try to get the highest ranked teams. Each team has 1 player live stream so that everyone can watch I'm not locked into any of these choices so let me know what you think! We could just allow everyone in, and essentially have a large kill off at the beginning. Doing that though I think it'd be harder to get everyone to stream though. Alternate team selection methods: Random, get a committee together and 'craft' the teams to maximize fairness, and everyone plays.
  8. Hello Everyone! I've been thinking that Survival would benefit from adding a consequence to dying. If there were a consequence to dying, then: 1. People would be motivated to wear armor. At the moment, it's better to not wear armor than to risk losing it, if you can just respawn at your bed next to where you died. In fact, wearing Protection 3+ armor at the moment is "punished" by making it so that you can lose your head. 2. Adding bounties (which has been discussed) would make more sense. If we added bounties to the server as it currently exists, then if someone ever sets a bounty on you, you can just have your friends kill you, and split the bounty. If there were a consequence to dying, it would prevent this. 3. You'd actually have to make farms, instead of committing suicide to refill your hunger bar. 4. People wouldn't abuse the random spawns to fast travel (killing yourself over and over until you're close to where you want to be). I thought I'd make this thread to see if people agreed with this idea, and maybe had some ideas about what the consequence could be.
  9. Survival's nether has been replaced with a Terrain Control generated one based on this config! The new nether features 5 different biomes and many new buildings! Not all new biomes and building are shown here.
  10. Arena #1 When: Saturday June 14th - 6:00 pm EDT Where: s.nerd.nu The Survival Arena League is a series of weekly arena nights on s.nerd.nu to encourage top-tier PVP, all the time. In addition to the usual prizes given out for arena fights, we'll be keeping score throughout the revision. The top-scoring players at the end of the revision win fabulous prizes: Top scorer gets a monument built in their honor in the next S spawn! SAL leaderboard will be displayed in game after each arena There will be four different types of fights that you can earn points in: 1v1 (duels) 1v1v1v1 (4-ways) Free-for-alls Mob free-for-alls We will not be supplying any gear for these fights, so you must bring any items you would like to use (you will have access to an enderchest). For information about the rules and scoring, check out the SAL spreadsheet. Can't wait to see you guys there!
  11. Survival Rev 25 will launch after the CTF event, approximately Sunday at 6:00 pm EDT This rev will feature some minor changes to S, and will also serve as a test rev for new plugins. Plugins might be added or removed at anytime. We will try to give everyone a notice before any plugins are added or removed. However, situations may occur where this does not happen, so to stay up to date about any changes, keep an eye on the Survival Development log. General Details The map is 4000 x 4000, but might be expanded to 6000 x 6000 later in the rev. There are no pre-built roads. There will be portals randomly placed throughout the map. Gameplay Changes / Plugins netherratiofix - Allows us to change the ratio between the over world and nether. It will be set at a 1-1 ratio. PwnPvpBalance - Attempts to balance pvp. PearlNerf - Attempts to limit the potential abuse of enderpearl during pvp. Random Spawn - Will spawn players in random locations. Packed ice exists on this map, but if it gets all mined out we may enable a crafting recipe for it. PlumpXP has been removed. Edit: The nether and end may be reset at any time. Things That Will be Returning Beds - die within 10 meters of your bed and your spawn is reset to the original spawn point. Locking Clan Chests - Players can make a modreq for a 1x1x1 region to be created with a name of their choosing (will be denied if inappropriate). This region can be used to lock chest to a large group of players with one command. For unlocked chest, /cprivate r:<region name> , and for locked chest you would use /cmodify r:<region name>. (Please note that anyone with permissions to a region can access any chests locked to that region) Combat Tag - to deter using logout as a function of PvP, CombatTag causes an NPC to spawn if you logout shortly after engaging in combat. Please keep in mind that using login/logout as a function of combat, regardless of whether you've been tagged, is against the rules. If you aren't sure if it's safe to log out, wait maybe 30 seconds or so. You should be fine. CobraCorral - Allows players to lock horses to keep them safe when not in use. See here for more information. Enchantism - We will be keeping the same configuration as last rev. Books - These will still only require 3 paper to be crafted. Armored head drops will continue to be in effect. Crafting recipes for Horse Armor, Mossy Stone Bricks, Chiseled Stone Bricks, and Mossy Cobblestone will remain the same. Survival Arena League (SAL) Started in rev 21 by Ludeman84, this series of weekly arena nights will be making a return for rev 25! A more detailed post will be made in the next few days (someone poke me if it's not out by Monday!). Rules The rules have recently been updated. Please make sure to read through them. End of Rev / Future Changes Survival Rev 25 will end 6 weeks from the start, July 13th. Major changes to Survival's gameplay will be made in rev 26. Keep up to date with the development of these changes here. Keep an eye open for posts regarding the future of Survival! These posts may involve asking for opinions, suggestions, or help developing plugins. Suggestions / Feedback Have any suggestions or feedback about the Survival? Let us know here or here! Want to discuss something in person? You can contact redwall_hp, Mumberthrax, or myself (Mrloud15) on IRC, Reddit, forums, or in game .
  12. Have any suggestions or feedback about Survival? Let us know in this post or here!
  13. It's Thursday and we haven't gotten a specific time Chaos is starting. It'd be nice to know exactly when it's gonna happen so we can prepare for it. Any word on when it's happening?
  14. Hello everyone, We have been keeping an eye on this post in Server Discussion, and we were hoping that people would bring up specific topics they would like to be discussed in a general meeting. This did not happen, so we have decided to create a google form, similar to the one we had for the survival meeting, where people can submit things they would like to be discussed. You can find the form by clicking here. As of right now, we have not decided on a date for a meeting. If we do, we will make sure to give everyone plenty of notice.
  15. Essentially, an idea that we find very interesting and possibly implementable for next rev is as follows: You get randomized drops. Instead of what the dying player is wearing or carrying (armor / weapons /blocks) being dropped, all of those items would be instantly converted into points (differing for each item), and then the loot that would be dropped would be randomized items of those on the "drop table" totaling up to those points (after being depreciated a bit to make farming within friends inefficient) that also take up 3/4th's the inventory space's taken pre-death. This is where you guys come in, we need your opinions on the point value for each item, the depreciation rate, and which items should be on the drop table. This is a very interesting opportunity for you to help shape the server you love. We have created a template for you, you can download as- any file you'd like, re-upload it, and if all goes well at the end of the week (6/8/14) we'll be able to average out the legitimate responses and use that table as the final table. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QN2wiFIjTNBFuGkbcbax2pKsz9n2BO-0ddRj35_ZGwM/edit#gid=0
  16. On June 5th, Survival will switch over to chaos mode and Rev 24 will draw to a close. Chaos will run until the 7th, with a new map to come shortly after. (Stay tuned for further details.)
  17. It's quite clear that there is some tension regarding the way things are and I believe that the time has come for us to sit down in a mumble channel, and figure out where things are and most definitely where we want them to go. In a civilised manner, of course. So, I would like to formally request that the Head Admins and Server Admins begin to plan for another meeting (especially since it's been a year since the last one). I would also like to ask that the other players and moderators give their support and gather as much information as they can (comments, concerns, questions) to make the admin's jobs a little easier during this process. Any input can be provided below.
  18. Hello everyone, unfortunately we have not come up a final plan or timeline for survival at this time. So in order to keep everyone in the loop on what’s going on, we have created and will be updating this log with the progress being made. A Survival admin will edit this document with the steps we have taken as they happen. Click Here for the Log
  19. I think while we're waiting on the outcome of the server meeting it would be best not to let S idle in its current state. We should switch over to chaos at the earliest possible opportunity. I'm aware that the enjoyment of chaos on our current map would run out before anything like a version of civcraft (or other substantial changes :P) could be implemented. But we could also rotate in old revs to play on which have the potential for months of use. This would provide a short term boost in player numbers, help sustain the interest in survival and give many players the chance to revel in their nostalgia and give the old S a fitting send off. Thoughts?
  20. Hello everyone, It has been about two weeks since we asked for your suggestions, and since then we received over 30 of them! We have gone through all of the suggestions and put together an agenda for the meeting, which you can find below. There will probably be a few changes made to the agenda before the actual meetings, but any changes would be minor. As for the meetings, they will be open meetings in mumble where anyone may speak. However, the meeting should only be to discuss what is on the agenda, and new suggestions should try not to be brought up. If there are enough new suggestions, we can always have another meeting, but I would like to avoid the long unorganized meetings we have had in the past. The point of this meeting is to allow everyone to voice their opinions and discuss the possible changes, so no decisions about changes will be made during the meetings. The meetings will take place on Saturday the 17th at 3:00 am EDT and 6:00 pm EDT. Both meetings will use the same agenda below, and they will be recorded and posted for those who can’t attend. Start Meeting Intro What would you enjoy S being? Should S be more difficult or less? More PvP-oriented? Less? Radically different gameplay? Or mostly vanilla? (see: Major Changes) PvP - oriented Survival - oriented Factions Civcraft Ultra hardcore Mixture Something entirely different Minor Changes Ore plumping All ores or only specific ones Different plumped ores for different biomes Enchanting Enchantism Vanilla Remove some enchants Beds Reduce damage for specific weapons Reducing effects for specific potions Simpleclans or similar features Top of nether access Protect mobs Protect redstone repeaters and comparators Major Changes Unique maps w/ some PvE areas, altered ore gen, buffs, etc. Encouraging Large Cities PvE areas (with combattag-like cooldown) under some circumstances Spawn plots - divided/assigned, or stricter rules near spawn Warps/teleporting Economy plugin Block reinforcement plugin Auto rollback plugin Community involvement, communication Greater community involvement in server planning Better ways to connect the community to each other Player conduct Policy and rules NCP tweaks Set end dates for revs Advertisement Ban lengths Final thoughts End Meeting Here is all of the suggestions we received. There is a lot there, but I would suggest that you read through all of the them before the meeting to get a better idea of what is being discussed.
  21. Perhaps on the wiki so that regular users can have a reference list of all the commands that we're allowed to use.
  22. When: Saturday at 7:30 EDT Where: Survival (s.nerd.nu) What kind of fights: Players vs Mobs! 1 vs 1 - All types of armor! FFA! (Free For All) 1 vs 1 - On horses! (You must provide your own horse) [insert your idea here!] I will be trying something a little different with this arena by holding two lotteries during the arena. All you need to enter the first one is be around in the arena when I decide to draw for it. I will not be releasing the time for the drawing to help avoid people only logging in for the drawing. The second one will take a little more work, but it should be more fun. To be entered into the second lottery, all you need to do is participate in an armored fight, it does not matter if you win or lose. The process for drawing the winner will be the same for each lottery. I will assign each eligible players a number and then pick a winner using a random number generator. The prizes will different for each lottery, and the prize for the second lottery will be better. So even if you don't feel like fighting, come to watch some exciting pvp and have the chance to win some free items!
  23. Title basically says it all. Seems to have stopped updating on the 6th of this month.
  24. Hello everyone, We would like to have a meeting with everyone, staff and non-staff, about the future of survival. Survival needs to make some major changes, and we would like to hear from you guys what kind of changes should be made. Now this is going to be setup in a different way than previous suggestions threads. Instead of posting your suggestions here, I would like for you to make the suggestions here by May 9th. The reason for the is that we will be having an open meeting where anyone may participate around May16th to discuss these ideas. After May 9th, I will compile all of the responses into one list, and at the same time I will create an agenda for the meeting. The list of suggestions and agenda will be posted about a week before the meeting, so everyone has a chance to look into the suggestions and contribute to the meeting. A little information about the meeting, the specific time and date will be released with the list and agenda. It will be an open meeting in mumble where anyone may speak; however, the meeting should only be to discuss what is on the agenda, and new suggestions should try not to be brought up. If there are enough new suggestions, we can always have another meeting, but I would like to avoid the long unorganized meetings we have had in the past. Another thing that will be a little different about this meeting is that it will happen twice. I plan to hold two meetings with the same agenda, but at different times since there is not a time that will work for everyone. I hope this will allow everyone to voice their opinions. You may suggest anything and everything like new plugins, adding or removing items, changes to the rules, or a completely new style of gameplay. However, I would like ask that you try to be serious with your suggestions. Here are a few examples of what I would consider serious and not serious suggestions. Not serious: Suggesting that we give away free diamonds. Serious: Suggesting that we plump diamond ore. Not serious: Suggesting that we should give everyone access to creative mode. Serious: Suggesting that we try to emulate a play style of a x type of server. If you are having trouble coming up with suggestions, here are a few questions that might help you out. If you have any questions, please leave a comment below and I will try to find you an answer.
  25. Survival Arena Saturday at 1pm EDT, hope to see you there!
