  2. Alright, wrote up a little thing about how I was thinking about implementing it. You can find that here. Please comment there on it, I don't really have anything else setup for ideas for MCB. I have the subreddit currently as protected, but you should be able to reply to it.

I have it already implemented in the database, and the new API is written, I am currently working on the plugin side of things which is a complete rewrite due to the API being completely different and all of the things that need to be supported plugin wise (Sponge, Spigot, BungeeCord, etc). And I can't give you a date due to not knowing when I am able to actually work on it and I don't want to give you a date and have people be upset when I am not able to complete it by then.   5. No, we've had a second box for a while. It is being used to host redditpublic wiki, and some other webservices. We were running too many things on our primary box. I have been paying for it, and will continue to do so (it is in my budget) until we run a donation drive under the premise that I will get most of it back at that point, but I can't start paying for a 3rd machine out of pocket. We will need to wait until we do a donation drive for that. Action plan $70 would be quite substantial to run a few servers. Management I think that having divisions would make sense, and if the person is heavily active in both games, then I think that they could be made a mod on both, but I wouldn't do it automatically due to training requirements. IRC Gamesurge is kind of terrible, and doesn't follow a lot of the normal stuff with IRC (username ownership, etc) and depending on the server we'd be able to get something for IRC bots to get going again. Steam I think that we would have a separate forum for the community manager stuff. The one concern people had with that position was them getting access to admin chat and stuff that goes on in there.

  7. I think that another thing we could start doing potentially is reviewing games, showing some gameplay if people are interested in that. Maybe start off with just game play videos, some fun stuff in different games.
  8. We definitely need to lay out a plan for moving forward. I've been busy with real life, as well as MCBouncer so things haven't moved as forward as quickly as I had wanted. Essentially we will need to wait until we have funds before moving forward. At this current time I am covering our second box out of pocket. And couldn't afford to do so for a second box. So deciding on the couple games we are going to start with will be a good start. And then determining when we are going to do an official launch I think that it should be something like what you mentioned. TF Mod, admin, etc. First off, I just created the Nerd.nu Gaming Community channel on YouTube. Perhaps we want to create another one as well for user submitted content? But I think that actively adding content would be good and I can add managers to the youtube account without giving out the credentials to the account. I have r/nerdnu which I think that we could use for general nerdnu stuff and perhaps keep r/mcpublic for minecraft stuff. With IRC, if we were to move, we would want to have an announcement kind of thing in the channel whenever someone joined to tell them that it has moved. And if we do decide to change the IRC channel name, we should also consider just switching networks as well. It has been discussed before, but with that channel being where we have always been it has always just fallen to abyss. Mumble is an easy change. I definitely think that we need to try to start and keep the steam group active. I think that it would be beneficial to find a couple people who want to be the "steam community managers" - essentially they would be responsible for setting up and running events on steam. Maybe some tournaments, etc.
  9. slide didn't create the new group, I did. And I put out an announcement on the old group which shows to all of the members.
  10. the whole steam thing was kicked off in 2011. I would be happy to consider it, but it would be something that we would have to sit down and discuss. I don't know d3north all that well, so I can't just say "sure, no problem let's do that". And I think that it would be more than just one person, would need to be a couple people otherwise people will get burnt out and things will fall to the wayward side again.
  11. I would be fine bringing on other people to help manage the steam group. My issue is the fact that there was no (as far as I am aware) co-ordination with nerd.nu on d3north creating this group before just deciding to do it. I've already said, getting the ball rolling should have been a "hey, what is the plan for the steam group? Mind if I get started on it if none of you are able to"
  12. I think that it would be a good idea to have some people that are essentially steam community managers. Plan some pickup games, maybe some tournaments, etc. This is just my opinions, but I don't think that there would be any complaints from the heads, or other staff. We could arrange resources for planning things like tournaments, etc as needed. I really do wanna work together with the community on all of this, but I would like to see the group run by staff, trying to ensure the same rules are followed, etc.
  13. One request for you Pyr0, perhaps make the border on the "Gaming Community" a little more there. It is a little hard to read, if the border was a little more like the Nerd.nu part, that would be awesome.
  14. Hahaha. Sorry, but this whole thing is laughable. You say "why don't you just use what exists and go with it" and yet, instead of going and saying, hey... let's try and improve the existing steam group, let's create a new one... that'll show 'em. Instead you could have tried garnering interest in the group that already existed. What would have made more sense would have been a "hey, was there any plans on changing the group on Steam? You can't change the name so a new group would have to be created if you wanted to change the name. If staff aren't going to do this would you mind if I took lead on it?" This here to me sounds like a hostage thing. "Once I have received blah, then I will hand it over." Right at the bottom of the announcement of saying that we are changing names, it was said "hey, we would like community contributions for a new logo". And yes, I have said that we should expand beyond MC and I also asked the community what other games they would like to see us run.
  15. We can't change the name of the steam group, you are required to create a new group if you wish to have a different name. You can change the short url, but not the name of the group itself.
  16. Wow, seriously? I for one will not endorse a group that isn't run by the staff of nerd.nu. To me it seems like you are trying to undermine the staff here.
  17. I've gone and created a poll based off of this topic. You can go ahead and fill it in here. All of the results are public (but anonymous) and can be seen here.
  18. Alright, so I want to sum up things a bit. Some of these games are a good idea to try to get people together and play, but aren't really feasible to run a server of. But here is the list of things that I think would be feasible to get a server running for. TF2 Garry's Mod (TTT, Prop Hunt, DarkRP, plain build server, etc) Just Cause 2 (Could do some fun mods for this, it is all via lua scripting) Starbound Rust (Currently an experimental server only for linux) Counter Strike (GO, Source, otherwise) GTA V (Not really a running server thing, but we can have a crew. I have gone ahead and setup a crew for GTA V). If you have suggestions for the level titles we will set something up as a suggestion for that. Terraria - While there is a modable server for Terraria, it might not be feasible to run terraria with a lot of things being client side. I will look into this more to see what options there are. I will create a poll in a bit to get some actual numbers in a bit.
  19. I am in agreement with Sir_Walmsley on this, if there are concerns with people that have been nominated, bring it up with the head admins on what your concerns are. There is no indication as to reasoning of votes here. I would suggest if you have issues, bring it to the heads. This seems like a frivolous thread.

Because we're either A) relying on an external modpack to not have a backdoor in it and B) if we do one ourselves then we have to deal with people saying that we have a backdoor in it, blah blah. And if something doesn't work, then who is going to diagnose it? If someone can't install it properly, or something like that, then what? We are also forcing someone who may have heard about the server from someone else in passing to not be able to just connect off the bat, they would be kicked with "Outdated client" or similar, and not know what's going on.
  21. Personally, I think that this is a horrible idea. I think that any modifications should remain server side only. You can still do a lot of changes server side while maintaining a vanilla client.
  22. If I am reading the sheets right, we have about $1000 left at the moment, so we will need to do something within 4 months. I have been covering the costs of our secondary server and will continue to do so until the time that a donation drive has been done with the understanding that the funds will eventually be paid back to me. To date that is about $280.
