  1. Just to note, I believe we had 47-43 players on tonight! That's quite an accomplishment for Creative and is very pleasing to see. Another great aspect of this is that PvE/Survival players are participating, which has made it as great as it is. Can't wait for Friday's builds!

  2. It depends entirely on that subreddit's userbase. If people are interested in your post and are pleased by it, they will likely upvote it. Because reddit has such a broad variety of different characters, getting to the front page can be very hard or easy, usually depending on who sees it. I suggest you lurk the subreddit you want to post in for a bit, to see what the users there generally approve of. Just a tip, this might've been better off being posted on "Off Topic".

Some subreddits with tightly packed communities, like ours, will give upvotes to peers more often. Again, I suggest lurking, it helps a lot. Some users lurk for years before posting anything, but you probably don't want to do that. Familiarize yourself with the entire thing and make sure you aren't reposting, and you should be set.

  3. After reading this thread, I really don't think it should be a rule to leave two behind. Why?

As Denevien said above, they're entities, not blocks. Sure, that may collide with everyone's personal views of what "griefing" is, but I personally believe that grief applies to blocks, not entities.

We're allowed to steal from each-other's chests/inventories, right? Animals are also entities, whether an owner of an animal likes it or not. They're fair game, it shouldn't be otherwise because the owner worked hard for them. We have all been robbed of hard-earned diamond at some point, yes?

That doesn't sound very s.nerd.nu-y to me, leave the protected animals for P. S is supposed to be about fighting for what you want, not having it protected by the rules.

  4. Something that's been bugging me for a while now. Don't get me wrong, but a bunch of upvotes that I see thrown around are given not out of agreement but rather because x person decided to post. Each time I come on these forums I see massive posts raising well thought-out topics with no upvotes, and somewhere in the comments is a useless, single-sentence comment with about 5 upvotes simply because people admire said person. A bunch of us here go with the flow and just agree with whomever has the most upvotes, but that doesn't do much good for anyone at times. It usually takes away from the conversation itself and turns into simply agreeing with a user with many upvotes. Just to clarify, I favour the upvote system but I dislike the way it's used by a bunch of us. It's good to see that the voting system doesn't apply to this section of the forums, it allows us to be more formal and actually raise ideas.

  5. Again, another thread that died down a little too quickly. I'd like to BUMP this thread. I'm also pretty sure we'd like to hear a bit of follow-up to the discussions that were supposedly had in the Admin Chat since it appears that absolutely nothing has come from these posts. (yet again)

    Indeed. Secondary BUMP.

  6. At the start of a revision, getting an adequate supply/storage of food for a clan/yourself can be difficult, as carrots and potatoes only drop from zombies, there're few cows/pigs/chicons to kill, crops grow fairly slowly unless you've a huge farm to compensate for that.

I don't think that crop griefing should be allowed, ever. We reserve that for chaos. Crop griefing is a huge dick move and only serves to piss people off.

However, maybe we could change something about users killing owned animals. Although we probably shouldn't be able to lock them as PvE players can lock their horses, we could perhaps just have a strong policy on keeping two animals left or so.

  7. Just a question, how big will the plots be? If fairly big, the contest could be very successful. I'd aim for about 20x20, it's possible with the recent expansion. It'd be cool to have this on the calendar too, and seen as a big upcoming event just as the previous speedbuild was.

  8. Okay, I understand that I interfered with the arena. However it wasn't intentional. I was walking against the fences and jumping up but not onto the fences. I was also starving at the time and I guess that knocked me over the fence into the arena.

    EDIT: Unbanned.

  9. I agree with nearly all the points in the above post. Also, would it be possible to get word from an admin about going back over the 3M recordings? As I said here:

I believe we should also go back over the 3M recordings and see what we can revive from them. Letting that go to waste is one of the biggest mistakes we've ever made as a community. Would we let that sort of thing go to waste in the old days of C? No, because the Admins would've been pressured to keep Creative as a healthy, up-to-date community. Heck, no-one even seems to know what the 3M meetings were despite all the members attending them. I say we, as a server, go back over them and properly address what we could've done differently. It doesn't call for a vote to decide whether or no we should do this, it's just common sense to go ahead with it.

we really need to bring that back up.

  10. A short summary of what I've gathered so far from this thread:

Creative needs moderators. For that to happen, the voting process needs to change and perhaps even the training methods. We also need advertising to bring in new players to nominate / watch over in the first place, which in itself will take quite some time. If the current mod nomination is disregarded, (which it will be unless action is taken by Head Admins) we're looking at a continuous effort stretching over 4~ months just to get a few players and moderators, getting Creative back on it's feet - it never should've gotten to that in the first place. The main reasons it'd take that long is because of the time in-between nominations, as well as the time needed for the advertisements to affect anyone. This is with a continuous effort on behalf of CAdmins, Head Admins, and to-be moderators of Creative, as well as a whole bunch of Creative's current players. The way I see it, PvE is hoarding mods and should go at least one nomination cycle without getting new moderators.

Survival needs a few mods as well, but the large majority of a mod haul should be for Creative.

  11. On this, what is the current process for mod selection? I believe it is:

Players are nominated - Discussion in private - Heads decide from discussion which names go forward  - Public vote - Heads decide who gets selected

If so, what is the point in the final stage? Why can't the people who get more yes votes than no be selected, rather than having the heads pick through the names again? I'm really curious as to why Magnyus didn't get it last round along with several other players who should've been there. Without meaning to take this too off topic, I don't think it should be ultimately the heads' choice. Allow the final choice to come down to the vote.

Also, think about editing the voting options. Rather than having 'Yes' or 'No' where the no also includes not knowing the player well enough, add a 'Neutral' or 'Don't know player' option. With there being so few mods playing on C, they're unlikely to know the players, so the players will get a straight no, limiting their chances further. I've brought this up with a couple of staff members before and got a mixed response, but I think it'd make the vote fairer and increase the amount of C players getting past the voting stage.

The HAdmins generally, from what I see, pick the players with the best vote scores unless under special circumstances.  I agree fully with the 3rd option idea for voting however.

  12. I do appreciate this thread.  It brings up some issues that I feel need to be addressed.

    Mods

I completely agree that this is an issue.  We don't have ANY active C mods.  Looking through the modreq list, marting and I alone combine for more than 50% of the modreqs.  While we don't require mods to ever do modreqs, it can sometimes get tiresome when you log on to 10 requests and feel the need to do them because they were made 6 hours ago.  The way to solve this is to get new mods.  Unfortunately, our voting process hinders this.  We have 2 maybe 3 mods who play C a couple times a week, and 4 admins.  When a C person is up for nomination, those 6-7 votes aren't nearly enough.  While some people vote yes because they know C needs mods or they know them from another server, it helps, but still C players are easily the lowest on the list for nominations.  I don't have a problem with this, but if you know C barely has mods, why refuse someone such as Magnyus who was a great player and had a good amount of votes?  If we expect everyone to get a certain percentage when 70% of voters don't play on C, it's going to be extremely tough.  Ultimately it is the head admins' choice, but I believe that the distribution of mods and the need of mods should factor in to their decision.

    The community

I think we all can agree that C has a bit of a community problem. In the past, many cures have been discussed such as disabling flying and building large community builds.  I think that the only cure for Creative is the playerbase.  As an admin I do everything I can to promote a better community.  I've really tried to put an emphasis on having things other than the traditional "lets build together".  PVP is new and is a hit, and speedbuilding I hope will be a big success.  But in the end everything myself and the other admins do only goes so far, it is up to the larger community to attend those events, tell people about the servers, and make C a great place.  The community isn't fixed by the efforts of few, it's going to take everyone.

    Lobby

I agree that the lobby needs to change.  It's not my call but waiting for a "contest" to design it could take months.  Just pick a build.

Myself and the other 3 admins are ALWAYS up for suggestions.  Whatever you ideas that you have that you may need help on let us know.  We all care about Creative and are willing to do everything we can to improve it.

Great to see that you guys are still actively supporting these sorts of threads, it really does help. All we need is to act upon them for once.

  13. In regard to moderator selection, I have only this to say: We enlist additional staff members based on a need for them, not just for the sake of doing so. Does one of our servers, which has a minimum 8 staff members on at all times, need more help?

Hint Hint PvE, no it doesn't.

Current moderators, take it upon yourselves to expand outside of your comfort zones, learn the additional rules for the other servers, ones that weren't gone over in your initial mod training. The need for staff on all servers is ever-present. Look for how you can help at all times, not just when help is asked for.

A trait I'm seeing is that PvE mods stop being members of the community, and rather just mods of PvE. They just abandon all other servers and flock to PvE, the other servers forgotten. PvE is the last resort for all mods, and that last resort is fast becoming the only resort.
