  1. Please review our Community Interaction Policy before connecting to our servers again- I realize you were just joking around but Doxxing is one of the most serious offenses and the penalty for the next occurrence will be severe. You are unbanned. Have fun on the servers.
  2. I've removed your old ban. Please read our rules at http://nerd.nu/rules before playing on nerd.nu servers as some things have changed in the past years. Have fun!
  3. We got the perms done late last night and this just got overlooked- I've pinged the techs to get it corrected.
  4. Its that time again- time to vote in some new mods. The list of players above was compiled based on nominations and feedback in the Moderator Nominations forum and reviewed by the admin team. Everyone on this list has been contacted and asked if they would like to be included in this vote. A few things to keep mind before you vote: "Yes" means "I am supporting this person, and want to see this person as a moderator." "No" means ""I don't think this person should be a moderator." "Don't know well enough" means "I don't know this person well enough to make a decision." The results are public, so anyone will be able to see who you voted for. As always, if anyone has any concerns about anyone on this list please contact myself or any of the head admins (jchance, MrLoud15, Dumbo52, scherererererererererer, and cyotie911) Voting will end in 1 week on Jan 12, 2015 and new mods will be announced no later than Jan 19, 2015 after voting has ended.
  5. The server (however it ends up) will still be s.nerd.nu and will replace what is currently there. It will still be the nerd.nu Survival (PVP) server. Help me understand exactly where you're going here as this thread is about possible changes and your comments have focused 100% on the name. I'm honestly a little confused about this line of questioning- are you proposing we leave boring broken s.nerd.nu up as it is now and open up a new server? All I have ever heard out of the vocal S players is that S sucks and needs to change, but now that they've done the research and are looking to make some major changes you're focusing on the name?
  6. Your ban is from 2011 for griefing on C. Since it is so old I'll go ahead and unban you, but please read the rules at http://nerd.nu/rules before joining our servers. Have fun!
  7. Bob, please respect other players builds and do not modify things you did not create. You are unbanned- have fun!
  8. You are unbanned. Please read our rules at nerd.nu/rules and have fun!
  9. Jake, we take privacy very seriously at nerd.nu- we don't even allow staff below server admin see IP addresses of players because they can extract a location using a GeoIP lookup. I get it that you were just goofing off and were not being malicious about it. That it was my location that was shared (after I followed your link to see what you were asking players to click on) and its pretty common knowledge where I live is a good thing since if you would have shared a player's location I would have needed to be much more severe. I've set your ban length at 1 week. Please re-apply on Jan 7, 2015 to be unbanned.
  10. I think there is some confusion over your ban reason. Your server ban is for: Ban for bmx20042004 onc.nerd.nu for Continued Pattern of Harassment nerd.nu/appeal by jchance on 2014-12-23T06:11:15.926 (no more bans, no notes) You are not banned for a mumble signature. You are banned for a continued pattern of harassment and trolling of the community on mumble, the forums, and IRC. No, I don't. Being pissed off does not give you free license to abuse other people. I don't know who or what in life taught you this, or if you think it doesn't apply because these people are in a computer and not in your face, but thats not how the real world works. You are always responsible for your own actions. and Since you bring this up, let me share a little example of how you have been "working with me" to improve the servers. On December 19, we had this very productive conversation in IRC. I welcome any and all players to contact me about things they feel need to be addressed, more so if they feel they can't address it with a specific server admin. Thats what heads are for. We talked about a group of S players that wanted to communicate more effectively with S admins, I agreed that in my opinion there is a communication disconnect of some sort between players and admins, and I agreed to help you set up the meeting to the best of my ability: Looks good huh? Except this is what happened the very next day: Not only did you chime right in on a troll post that used a C moderator whom you all have almost zero interaction with as the brunt of your joke, you coordinated it. Notice those purple arrows? They point to your post time stamps. They're all within 4 minutes of each other. That means you all sat in a channel somewhere and planned your replies before hand. Coordination means you all knew exactly what you were doing. This is the thing about your "working with S players and staff"- You immediately revert to coordinated trolling the very next day. I'm sorry, but the good you're trying to do does not outweigh the bad you are succeeding at doing. I'm not sure what you're trying to say here- If you are asking me if the intent of server rules and polices is to get rid of trolls and people that disrupt the community then my answer is a resounding yes- that is exactly what they are designed to to. I have conferred with the other head admins and we agree your ban should be as follows: 90 day ban for continued trolling and harassment of other players on all nerd services including in-game, mumble, IRC, and the forums. You may re-appeal on March 23, 2015.
  11. Because of the contentious nature of this ban and what I can only assume will be widespread scrutiny by some members of the server community I'd like to make a brief statement- As a head admin I am one of a team of admins responsible for the overall welfare of the community and resolving issues between players and staff. While many take the job and actions of head admins personally, I do not. My only focus is on improving the community. You are banned from Mumble, in-game, and after your actions last night, IRC for an ongoing pattern of harassment. In IRC, you have stated that you were never warned before you were banned. This is not true. You received a warning from another admin on the forums on December 14: There was not a time limit on that warning or any other. There is not a "You get warned for every incident of harassment rule" in place for any nerd.nu service. That was your warning, and it came from the admin on the server that you often claim to represent. I am now going to outline a pattern of harassment toward other players and staff in the nerd.nu community. Each incident, taken on its own, does not warrant a ban. However, when a pattern emerges it is my job as a community leader who looks out for the welfare of the community to take action. First, IRC encounters: Incident 1: In this incident you: Insultingly refers to other characters, players, nerd.nu staff, or groups of people, be they in-game or external. Repeated minor insults intended to harass or annoy another player or staff for an extended period Are Trolling: to post inflammatory or inappropriate messages or comments on (the Internet, especially a message board) for the purpose of upsetting other users and provoking a response. Incident 2: In this incident you: Insultingly refers to other characters, players, nerd.nu staff, or groups of people, be they in-game or external. Repeated minor insults intended to harass or annoy another player or staff for an extended period Are Trolling: to post inflammatory or inappropriate messages or comments on (the Internet, especially a message board) for the purpose of upsetting other users and provoking a response. Continued to discuss your ban in IRC, even though there is a designated channel to contest a ban (appeal), and you were asked nicely four times (3 by me, 1 by MrLoud) to stop discussing your ban in IRC. Forum Issues: (In reference to https://nerd.nu/forums/topic/2043-bmx20042004-mumble-ban-redwall-hp/) In these forum posts you: Insultingly refers to other characters, players, nerd.nu staff, or groups of people, be they in-game or external. Repeated minor insults intended to harass or annoy another player or staff for an extended period Are Trolling: to post inflammatory or inappropriate messages or comments on (the Internet, especially a message board) for the purpose of upsetting other users and provoking a response. Mumble Incidents: I have received numerous complaints that you troll in mumble. As there are no mumble logs I can't provide them here. However, the fact that they have come from several players (and have been reported to several admins) lends to their crediblity. The straw that broke the camels back last night was this mumble comment: This shows that you: Insultingly refers to other characters, players, nerd.nu staff, or groups of people, be they in-game or external. That there are so many incidents to refer to clearly shows that this is ongoing harassment and general disregard for the community. Taken one on their own each incident is relatively minor. However, when they are all put in one place it is clear there is a pattern. You have repeatedly targeted specific players with your comments, including nerd.nu staff. At every chance you attempt to undermine nerd.nu staff and raise discontent among players. This is the relevant policy: The fact that there are so many incidents above is the very definition of this policy: Based on all of the above it is clear that you are clear and constant determent to the community. You have shown a pattern of harassment of specific players and staff, and you constantly try to undermine the server community at every chance.
  12. Preface: The aim of this policy is to: Remove ambiguity in what is not allowed on nerd.nu services and classify them by severity Specifically outline a policy that deals with patterns of problem behavior Specify penalties and how the warning system will be used on the forums. This policy does not create any new rules. It does not give mods or admins any new power or tools- it only more clearly defines what is acceptable community interaction with easy to understand, concise rules. It also outlines how the warning system will be used when this policy is violated. Community Interaction Policy This policy serves to outline what is acceptable interaction between players and staff using nerd.nu services, including but not limited to: nerd.nu forums nerd.nu IRC channels the /r/mcpublic subreddit mumble wiki nerd.nu Steam groups nerd.nu server chat (including public, clan chat, private messages, and /mail) For the remainder of this policy, all of the above may be referred to “Nerd.nu Services” or just “Services.” Below are guidelines to help determine whether certain language or community interaction is appropriate while using Nerd.nu Services. We tried to encompass all manner of barred language below, but there may be inappropriate language that does not fit into any of these categories. We reserve the right to evaluate each incident on a case-by-case basis. In extreme cases, we may take action beyond what is detailed here. Real-Life Information and Threats (Doxxing) This category includes both clear and masked language and images / memes which: Refers to violence in any capacity that is not directly related to the game world. Releases any real life information about other players or nerd.nu staff. Any player found in violation of this policy may receive, depending on severity as determined by nerd.nu staff: A lengthy suspension from the game or service in which the infraction occurred on the first occurrence. A global ban on all nerd.nu services including but not limited to games, forum, and mumble. A permenent ban on all nerd.nu services with no right to appeal. Note: In cases where we feel that there is a legitimate threat to individuals or property, Nerd.nu staff may contact appropriate local, state, or national authorities, depending on the severity of the threat, to ensure a safe and complete resolution for all involved parties. If you ever feel that you are personally threatened on a nerd.nu service, please report the issue to admins@nerd.nu immediately. Highly Inappropriate The categories below detail language deemed to be highly inappropriate: Racial or Ethnic This category includes both clear and masked language and images / memes which: Promotes racial/ethnic hatred. Is recognized as a racial/ethnic slur. Alludes to symbols of racial/ethnic hatred. Language that sounds like racial hatred or racism and is used in an attempt to by-pass this policy. Extreme Sexuality or Violence This category includes both clear and masked language and images / memes which: Refers to extreme and/or violent sexual acts. Refers to extremely violent real life actions. Refers to sexual acts with other players. National Hatred This category includes both clear and masked language and images / memes which: Promotes national hatred. Is recognized as a national slur. Alludes to symbols of national hatred. Sexual Orientation This category includes both clear and masked language and images / memes which: Insultingly refers to any aspect of sexual orientation pertaining to themselves or other players. Harassing or Defamatory This category includes both clear and masked language and images / memes which: Insultingly refers to other characters, players, nerd.nu staff, or groups of people, be they in-game or external. Repeated minor insults intended to harass or annoy another player or staff for an extended period Are Trolling: to post inflammatory or inappropriate messages or comments for the purpose of upsetting other users and provoking a response. Any player found in violation of the above policy may receive, depending on the severity as determined by nerd.nu staff: A warning and note added to their account. An immediate temporary ban from the one or all nerd.nu services without warning. A Final Warning, with any further violations resulting in permenent ban. Inappropriate The categories below detail language deemed to be inappropriate: Chat Disruption This category includes language and/or actions intended to disturb groups of players or areas of the world, such as: Disruption of player events or gatherings. Excessive use of in-game chat, commands, or join/part spam. Spamming gifs or any other image type in threads without additional content. Excessively communicating the same phrase, similar phrases, or pure gibberish. Repetition of the same phrase more than once in a period of 30 seconds. Obscene or Vulgar This category includes both clear and masked language which: Is an inappropriate reference to human anatomy or bodily functions. Is pornographic in nature. Religions or Religious Figures This category includes both clear and masked language which: Negatively portrays religions or religious figures with the intent to cause anger or elicit a negative response. Advertising This category includes advertisement of any link, server, or resource that does not benefit the players or community. Any non-beneficial, non-nerd.nu server, YouTube channel, Twitch.tv account, organizations, or websites. Any player found in violation of this policy may receive: A warning A temporary suspension from nerd.nu services. A reoccuring pattern of violating this policy may lead to lengthy bans both in game and gloablly on all nerd.nu services. Special Cases These factors act as modifiers for the severity of a violation: Ongoing Harassment Harassment takes many forms and the intent behind the communication is important. Repeatedly targeting a specific player with harassment, either physical or verbal, can lead to more severe action. Cases of ongoing harassment will be handled by a head admin. Situational Factors The action we take may be more lenient or more severe than those listed for each category. When deciding what action to take, we also consider the number of people who may view the offending language. We have broken this factor up into three categories: Public This group includes: Comments made in game chat. Comments made in public forum sections Comments made on public wiki pages Comments (including verbal, text, and images) made over Mumble Since comments in these forums are visible to the largest number of players, we take harassment in these channels very seriously. Abuse in these channels will receive at least the penalty listed above, if not additional repercussions. One-to-One or One-to-Few This group includes: Comments made via private messages on the forum, in game, or Mumble /mail messages Other small group communications such as official IRC channels, group messages on the forums, etc. Though we enforce all rules in these channels, the number of people affected and the behavior of all involved parties will be taken into consideration and penalties may not be as harsh as stated above. However, repeated harassment via private messages will be dealt with severely. Clan Chat Because of the voluntary nature of Clan Chat participation, we take a much more lenient stance in Clan Chat channels. Only the most severe harassment (i.e. Doxxing, Racial/Ethnic, Extreme Sexual/Violence, Real-life Threats) will be considered. Repeated Violations Repeatedly violating any area of this policy, including the areas detailed above, will often result in temporary ban from the game or other nerd.nu services as appropriate. Repeated violations or a clear pattern of disruption may result in an extended or permanent ban from Nerd.nu services. Any appeals to punitive actions taken as a result of policy violation should be handled in accodance with the Nerd.nu Appeal Policy posted on our forums. The Forum Warning System The forums have a built in warning system. This warning system serves to notify posters that they have violated community rules and, at higher warning levels, restrict their ability to post or reply to topics. The warning levels are as follows: no penalty no penalty no penalty 1 day readonly 2 day readonly 7 day readonly 14 day readonly 30 day readonly 90 day readonly Extended or Permanent Ban TBD by head admins. Issuing Warning Points: Warning points are issued by Server Admins and Head Admins. You can receive one warning per post. Warning points fall off automatically after 14 days. The number of points that are issued for a violation of policy is based on the class of infraction from the list above: Highly Inappropriate Content: 2 Warning Points Inappropriate Content: 1 Warning Point IF you feel you have been unfairly warned you may contact the head admins at admins@nerd.nu, through IRC, or any other available method (/mail in game, pm in game, direct message, etc.)
  13. I agree for the most part with this post. I've always been big on admin transparency (which is why I started the changelog thing for C that all other servers have followed suit) and at the last admin meeting, which we have once a month, I urged the other admins to communicate with mods and players more. However, I can tell you that there have only been 2 new threads in the head admin forum and 8 new threads in the admin forum this month so its not like an incredible amount of discussion is happening on the forums. The vast majority of discussion happens in other threads throughout the forums and in IRC where we discuss what people are suggesting in threads, personnel issues, technical issues and requests for tech admins, and if we need to take action in a scenario, etc. I think the real problem with having policy discussions in the most public venue available is that the signal to noise ratio gets dramatically worse- you go from 5 or 6 opinions of admins to 30 opinions of mods with cross talk and banter mixed in and it takes 3 pages to get to some sort of conclusion, if ever. If you try to do that in IRC it becomes an impossible to follow wall of text where nobody can really tell what is going on in the end. I'm not sure what the best solution to that problem is.
  14. Its been my experience on C that there are 5 people that really like the CTA and the rest of the players that think its a complete pain in the ass (myself included). There are 2 CTA lines running through Chanceville and I've seen grand total of 3 people using it the entire rev. They're both attractive, and the builder worked with me to work them in to the city design, but they've gone largely unused since you can fly or ride a horse faster. Just my two cents.
  15. Damn son, somebody stepped the toaster game up. BRB, going to Amazon.com
  16. NOT A TOASTER. Man, you guys are really bad at this. Its a common object found in nearly every home.
  17. I call it the Ferrari Toastarosa.
  18. First, MrLoud is not the only active head. I think there is some confusion about how head admins factor in to the server admin selection process. Head admins don't pick server admins, we only hold veto power. Traditionally existing server admins pick new admins for their server. This is because nobody knows their own server better than the server admins. The Sadmins picked Aca and the head admins only involvement is to review their choice to see if there are any strong objections. The S admins will need to comment on their choice- we as heads are not privy to their entire reasoning and discussion on the matter.
  19. When I was cadmin I asked Token to a) Stop asking new players to wear bear skins when they joined and b) Move his "ted" talk to clan chat. Since making head I still play on C every day and from what I have observed he has done what I've asked him nicely to do. I don't really think a public poll dragging him through the dirt is the right way to get him to stop, or whatever the goal of this is. If anyone has some actual cases of harassment over the ted thing then please take screenshots and note the time and provide them to a cadmin. They can review the server logs and see if there is an actual issue of harassment instead of antidotal evidence and he-said she-said.
  20. Avada- You're unbanned- welcome back.
  21. Updated Ban Appeal Policy to remove ambiguity and specifically outline what to do if you have information relevant to an appeal. https://nerd.nu/forums/topic/2865-ban-appeal-policy/#entry21999
  22. This policy covers appeals for bans and notes on Nerd.nu servers, websites, and services. Posting Your Appeal: We treat bans and appeals seriously. This is not the place to play games or impress your friends. Please do not post more than one appeal. Please treat your appeal seriously or it will be denied. Jokes, memes, gifs, and other forms of spam in appeals will result in them being closed. Please be civil in your appeal. Appeals that contain trolling, personal attacks, or inflammatory statements will be closed. Bumping Appeals: If the banning moderator has not responded to your appeal after 48 hours you may make a post (bump) in your appeal to bring attention to it. At this point (48 hours of no response), any staff member may attempt to contact the banning moderator and if no response is received in 24 hours, said staff member may take over to expedite the appeal. For bans, if the banning moderator is not available another moderator or admin may handle your appeal. For notes, if the moderator in question is not available, a head admin will take over your appeal. Further Note Appeal Details: Similar to ban appeals, once a note has been added to you then you're welcome to appeal this if / when you wish. Where the notes are deemed valid and end up staying on your account for the meantime, please consider allowing a few weeks / months before re-appealing. Each note appeal will be handled by the staff member who issued them, provided they are active. Otherwise should that staff member be inactive / no longer on staff then if the note directly refers to activity on a specific server then a respective server admin can handle the note appeal. The head admin team will aim to oversee all note appeals issued from inactive / past staff. For the staff member handling the note appeal, we would ask that you are fair. Please consider the length of time that the note has been active for and whether the note still reflects the behaviour of that individual. Where possible, we do not want to see notes remain for lengthy periods of time. Should anyone experience issues with the outcome of their note appeal then you are welcome to approach a head admin. Provided the staff member has followed the guideline in the above paragraph then we will support their decision. Note appeals have been amended In this post. Posting in Others Appeals: Please do not post in others appeals. If you have information as a player (or moderator) that you feel is relevant to the appeal, please contact the banning moderator via message on the forums, in game, or in IRC. If you are unable to contact a moderator or feel that an admin should review the information please contact a head admin or email admins[at]nerd.nu. Escalating Your Appeal: Players may request an admin to review their appeal. The banning moderator (or admin) will still have an opportunity to post their collected evidence for your ban. An admin or head admin will review the evidence and decide an outcome of the appeal. Please note: As there are significantly fewer admins and head admins than there are moderators this may extend the time it takes to resolve your appeal. Changing Your Name After Being Banned: Please reply in your appeal if you change your name, as when we unban your original username it won't actually remove your ban, and it'll help us to speed up your ban removal. Appealing to Hide Your Old Appeal: Head admins do case-by-case evaluations whether an old appeal could be hidden or not, but not for light reasons. Contact the head admins via private message or other means to discuss this.
  23. I've started posting regularly to /r/mcservers (every 2 weeks, as Avada said I could- he's a mod there) and I've listed C on several MC server lists. Advertising was a discussion point in the last admin meeting. I've also started an admin discussion thread on advertising in the Admins forum to get the ball rolling. Four, I've sent you a PM on IRC about your ideas for advertising but I didn't get a reply. (November 21st)
