  1. I think of official as meaning something much weaker than a lot of naysayers do. Also, we're the official servers of the minecraft subreddit, as decided by their head mod. That phrase doesn't claim any sort of status given by Conde Nest (reddit's owners).

The subreddit is the one thing that can't be as easily redirected as the others. Domains, for websites and ingame, can redirect.

  2. Can I get any sort of clarification on why this post is here? Are the admins actually supporting this or is it just a random selection of "Players who I think should be mod"

It's a repost of the vote in mod-chat. This poll is open to members of the forum, by a member, where the results will only be used by members.

  3. If we do go 8k by 8k, would it be possible to have more than 8 portals? 12 or even 16 would encourage builds to be more evenly spread out across the map and give a chance to smaller cities which would otherwise be without portals.

With sufficient mathswork by the users, portals can be very close together, less than 128 blocks. It gets messy quick with all the stairs and ladders, an ugly compact version of Shady Oaks.

One every 1k square is what we were told was the safe minimum once. If the world started at 4k with one portal per 1k^2 and expanded to 6k then 8k that's spawn plus 15, then 40 more, then 56 more. That's a lot, but the later 100 won't be used for anything major, just access to fresh biomes, late-rev activity, wilderness homes, independent builds. A 32-station CARBON would be able to reach the initial 16 portals plus 6 farms/POIs and 10 expansion portals.

  4. Why can't we pick a map size larger than 8k by 8k?

Because even 8k is a questionable stretch on resources of the server and the player's travel options. I think it's too much, 4-5k leaves more than enough room while not scaring people off overworld rails.

I believe thrawn's wilder maps involved intended areas for each city. With that note I entirely agree with Totemo.

edit: Now that the 'temperature' of the biome usually matches its neighbours, a town in two different biomes is better off than before that change. Small biomes might work now, though I guess care would be needed with swamps.

  5. Mildly disagree, would follow any strong feelings by tech admins.

I agree with the reasoning, but I don't think it applies in any great quantity. I think what may work better is that each tech admin does whatever they feel interested in, capable of, or whatever else motivates them. That's a loose, informal version of your suggestion, as it doesn't pin a person to a server but they will generally solve the same problems either way.

  6. How about an overhaul of the admin system. We've had the same system in place since 2011 and it's clearly no longer effective. Admins used to chose players who they knew well but knew were very active in what they do.

Let's talk in general admin nominating. The system should be from an outside party? The community perhaps! You run the risk of more popularity contests but it's a very good start for finding the best candidate. How about the head admins? They don't step foot in game enough sometimes but it could be possible. Perhaps the mods? I personally wouldn't feel comfortable voting in the new sadmin because I'll admit I don't know everyone who's most active and helpful on survival. So now we go back to the community.

Tornadohorse and Avada and many other S dedicated players have spent more time on there than any admins. So despite it being a different ballgame they would be the ones to know what is best.

Can you explain in more detail how players would find people suitable for admin positions, suitable to co-lead Nerd, the necessity to carefully pick their actions and have access  to all that is necessary for their job? Why is it worth the risk, if others not on your side, say me, think it'll be a popularity contest from the start. What if P players colluded? A large active city, say Rose, might outnumber you.

  7. -Disclaimer: Nothing said here is a shot at TheAcademician. I will reiterate that she as a player and a person is wonderful, and she is also an amazing tech-

This response is not satisfactory in my opinion. How is creating pve cities in two revs considered to be a good history as a survival player? Furthermore how is having a good history on S something to be taken into account? Plenty of players have a good "history" on S, but I thought we weren't looking at the past and only trying to move forward towards the present? Maybe I misunderstood your post in THIS thread stating that this gameplay is now boring and that we should find some new way of creating S, thus going against our history.

As a heavy player in both revs of these cities, and constructing a lot of what you saw in Sanctuary, I can assure you that these were not pvp hot spots. The locations of the cities were not given out most of the time due to wanting to avoid pvp. Not only that, but these cities were built far away to avoid pvp interaction. Because of this, it's clear these cities were made with a more PvE mindset, which went against what S was in previous revisions.

Now to address the last part, this criteria seems to be a borderline popularity contest. Who will work best with the team? A friend. Who can we trust to do their duties? A friend. It also seems that rev planning would go a lot smoother if everyone was on board with the same ideas. Generally it seems that players tend to stick with players that have the same ideas as them. In short, a friend. Becoming admin should not be who has more friends on the current admin team, it should be someone who is very passionate about the server, and wants to see it succeed far beyond what it was in the past. With 0 hours put in, it's clear the passion just isn't there.

Lastly I just want to say that it's hard to accept a player as an admin who was so quick to leave due to the player base. If someone didn't like the player base in the past, what's changed now to make them come back aside from just an admin role?

Why is building cities not suitable experience? No true survival player? You quoted an answer that was only needed because of your questions, so the admins are looking back to deal with the question and not brush it off.

I saw the friend part addressed very well somewhere else. Its because they've been made very nervous of your future reactions and any new staff member surprising them. That's human nature, and I'd love to hear a way around it because it would be helpful world wide.

If I were in their place I'd think that someone who is capable of being an admin on a dying server, who played in a slightly different way to most players, they would be ideal for helping the server not die. Is living in a city really a bad different? It's a communal form of what everyone does, have a far away hidden base. The pvp hotspots as far as I know (which is little, please update me) are the spawn exits and roads, and crossroads.

  8. Team Fortress Two.

It's one of the most popular games when I look at the members list of the official and unofficial groups. It has constant updates and cross platform multiplayer. It's free, hosts 32 people in a game, has its own voice system and voting/commands.

I would prefer there to be one nerd tf2 server that rotates through different types of servers - eg Monday 24h dustbowl, Tues-Thur steam maps, Fri event/holiday maps, Sat-Sun custom maps.

edit: The game has a good system for the players voting for a map, and there's an alternative. I'd back them too.

  9. The fact we arent "officially" the server for /r/minecraft is that mods in it are against an "official" server, but as AllNaturalx is top mod and creator of r/minecraft and r/mcpublic, the sidebar links stays.

So for the time being we are still the official servers of reddit. A low number of people come into IRC and C and say they are from /r/minecraft, I suspect you can get better data from P.

I don't see the harm that you see, but I see slurs/fools from the community. The worst of anywhere acts the same.

  10. Fyi it's not invite only. It's a group that we are putting together to address issues. I made a skype group that people can join if they would like, main reason it's skype is because if people get trolly and out of hand they will be removed.

I'd like to join, my skype name is live:tobylane_3. I was called a troll yesterday for asking four down some details, am I at risk of being removed for asking for details of your plan?
