I had a non-speed building contest twice about 18 months ago, but players could build anything in a plot and I couldn't get it moved if it wasn't a relevant build. Has the policy on that changed, can we get non-criteria builds moved out of the way?

How pure do you want the community to be? Some people who are active in and/or out of game are busy with their own server (open or not), or who want to be involved but are banned. I consider them all part of the community.
-
We're nerds, let us use assembly instructions in Minecraft. Better yet, butterflies > disturbance ripples > eddy currants > high pressure > cosmic ray lens > bit flip. It couldn't be simpler!
I'm the guy sitting down, I love nano.

P is about to restart, with lots of people and many plans. S is trying out new things to be fresh, let's not pre-judge that progress. C is small, but a mighty amount of work is done.
Out of Minecraft there's renewed interested in various Steam games, IRC and Mumble are active and there's a great amount of debate and off topic talk on the forums.
Most other communities would be envious of all that, please don't take it for granted.

Roads + spawn: I believe the aim of a random spawn is to give everyone a chance of a quiet first day, and that the point of a central spawn andor roads are to have a place for PvP. If those are widely believed then it would make sense to have random spawns, and roads to the centre of the map. I would like the centre of the map to not be claimable, buildable or an arena (like current), but I guess that's another discussion.
Safebuckets: What if people could request a region (that will always have the build:all flag), so that, with the safebuckets plugin I'm thinking of by Elliot, the region members could have flowing liquids in it, and other people have static liquids both in the region, and their liquids that flow into the region.
I'm not entirely sure what nerdbounty without prisonpearls would be, but it sounds interesting. Same for nerfed vanilla enchantments.

There's your downvote. You can dislike posts all you want, but Instead of blindly clicking a button, your expected to make a counter argument. The only reason this post has become "circle jerky" is because some people seem to just want to down vote and not say why...
If someone wants to downvote and not say why then they shouldn't get to tell other people that they think negatively of a post. Technology can't change that, it's a culture thing.
I approve this post because we keep using this disagree downvote logic
We tried following reddiquette when we first had the ability for voting. Short of an ignorable popup box like in certain subreddits, that's also not a technical issue.
-
You're trusting your votes to the forum software. Just like the voting itself, the system itself doesn't dictate how its used but the community does.

Is Clippy the part of you that is a fan of the Microsoft Word help tool?

Voting is an idea of a system, nothing in it dictates how it will be used. We have to do that ourselves. We tried following redditiquete, so I'd suggest something a bit more general. Maybe it's something like don't be afraid of posting short but constructive replies, try to ignore who the poster is, and try to find new reasoning and allies at every opportunity.

I'd love this. I often look at the steam group list of members for Team Fortress. Brom people led some L4D2 games last year, and there's several popular Garrys Mod games that appeal to minecrafters.

you try to hard
Holy shit, this thread is getting intense.
Please stop with the "US vs Them" mentality, folks.
It's ridiculous.

So.. seven downvotes for quickly trying something different. It's intense because we're going over the same ground as before, where there was no answer some people were happy with.

I think the current system is considerably more than the lesser of any evil options. If we switched to public voting by anyone then we could never change back. If we switched I think we'd be bouncing between different implementations with no real difference between them, nothing stopping anger and gaming the system building up. The current system is out of our hands. By not feeling in control of this, we don't feel in control of a million things that follow on from mod nominations, the tasks those mods do. It is better that way, there's already so much discussion over what happens just when the admins offer us some options. I'd like the admins to reign in what the playerbase thinks the playerbase is in control of. It would make the fewer discussions better and calmer, because we can only feel in control of less. I wouldn't like to see changes go through based on comparing ideals of one person's idea with the reality of the current setup. The reality of the idea is just as messy, if not worse. Some people say - ideal communism > ideal democracy > real world democracy > real world communism. I'm trying to be mildly radical because a new group of ideas that comes out of one spark can be very beneficial, but it does require seeing the idea for itself, not who said it.

But it's a different style of server, s players would join s and the players that like the style of server that is up now will join that, I don't see where anyone loses in that. That's like saying we should never have split off from just being a creative server to having pvp and pve because it would split off the c players. (obviously not that extreme but still.)
They are different gamemodes. The difference between normal survival and current survival is something, but not big enough for Nerd to cater to each separately. Current survival is very close to chaos, which in the past has never sustained numbers due to the few differences, such as world borders. I believe splitting the community should be ruled out. The whole community will not be pleased by any one option, so we shouldn't keep saying no to ideas as if that shuts them off entirely. Creative has moved slightly towards PvE by allowing users to change into survival mode (without being able to pick up items, but can damage each other). That didn't do any harm to either server.

I really can't agree with the PvE ideas, Survival is PvP based and more importantly, it's Survival - not what it used to be crossed with PvE.
If this were to ever be considered, I'd wait for a Mumble meeting to discuss it in properly.
Chaos used to be a different game type, now survival is most of the way to being converted to chaos. I'm not actively suggesting moving towards PvE any more, but I still think it will work. Look at how many people you got by being more like chaos, you'll get an even greater number of new players when you are more like PvE.

Yes, the chaos server was constantly on back in 2011? (Possibly 2012?) and I believe was turned off because of how similar it was to S. Honestly I for one would love to have the server on again for a possible fundraiser, but I suppose that's another thread heh.
In that case it's usually called the event server, and added to the sidebar up to and during that event.

There should not have been any attacks in the first place. It is highly inappropriate for you to ask for this to continue.
I can agree with that, but as the topic was created with the same intent, then four replied before me I saw this as an already dirtied thread.

You did nothing today. Mal just said that he had dirt on two people but only wanted to dish on one. If wanting to know all the facts is unwelcome, then I wish to be unwelcome.
I re-read it and still see it. The two paragraphs before [removed image].

It's more disappointing when these attacking threads attack one person (four) and hold back on another (roast). Please give us all the truth about all the players. Holding back evidence on a friend while concentrating on an enemy makes the whole thing look worse, and makes the server look bad because there's an accusation that won't be finished off.

Sounds great! How would it be for someone like me who wouldn't ally with or provoke anyone?
-
Such as? I cant think of any "survival veterans" who would think any of the changes make any logical sense at all. All of the do nothing but discourage player interaction. Citadel? Hidden underground bases. No end chest? Less traveling. Prison pearl? Not useful at all for a PVP server. Random spawns? because fuck logical center of the map spawn points.
I feel like if these changes stay S will turn into PVE
I was very surprised by how much those ideas were accepted in the mumble meeting. I believe you were banned at the time, there should be a soundcloud of it. Pve is the one attracting players, if the active players (and a few pretenders) said yes to all those things knowing they came from a Civ server then it's a happy coincidence to become ever so slightly more like Pve.
Pete it's good you have a lot to say but please don't go too far into attacking people or saying it's like a real war.

What change do you think you'll find in yourself in the next year? I'm thinking pennies.
uhhhh
Feel like trying again? Or just find the extra meanings?

A couple questions about the next C revision.

6) & 11) Users can make and run events, make and produce videos.
9) There's not much to say, and it'll never be high priority.
10) Ideally with a plugin to not affect redstone, like Cork. Possibly with a plugin to respect region borders, like Glacier.
