  1. Are we really starting with this again? Judging by last revs online stats, i'm more of a survival player than you or PeteLucas. Perhaps if we stopped trying to exclude people, more people would want to play.
  2. When the server restarts it saves the map before shutting down. Lately when the servers have been getting stuck, it has been when they are coming back up so no data loss should be happening then. A DoS attack cannot cause server data loss, it cab cause your connection to time out and maybe a minute or so of your blocks being placed won't get trough to the server, but you most likely will notice nothing happening on the server in that time period, In order to debug these reports I need exact times (date, hour, minute) and locations (x,y,z) of any missing blocks.
  3. I see a lot of people really excited about the new rev and I also definitely see a few people not excited. There is no way to ever please everyone and so there will never be a "vast majority of players" that choose exactly 1 set of plugins and config options and game rules etc. The s admins didn't ignore anyones opinion here, they held meetings, read forum and subreddit posts and thought long and hard. The biggest thing I feel people were asking for was simply to try out new things. Remember, this is also a "test" rev, so if things don't work out, they will change again. Just give it a try, I think right now the biggest hurdle to S coming back is simply people stuck into what THEY view the server as and being completely unwilling to change. Since everyone views the server slightly differently, this just can't work.
  4. I'm actively trying to figure out why the servers all of a sudden seem to be stalling on reboots, it seems to only really be affecting c and s but it's a hard issue to debug. I hadn't heard about any kind of rollbacks though before this thread so next time it happens, or if you can remember a specific time it already has please get me the following information: exact time of build, exact time of restart, approx length of rollback, exact location in the world so I can look into it some more.

  6. It will be daytime the entire event. The nether is 1:8, so it'll start at 2000/8 out and keep the ratio as it contracts Yes Participants will not be able to hear spectators in game at least. Providing coordinates via any other means is also against the rules. If you know of someone cheating, tell them to stop or report them as that will ruin the game and reduce the chances of us having more uhc events. Once your time expires, it will reduce your health by 1 hearts every minute. No You may only join as 1 person, and may not spectate as an alt until you are killed.   9. On a more serious note, if time runs out and more than 1 person is still alive. I will TP them to a small enclosure and force them to fight.

  12. Ultra Hardcore (UHC) #1 When: Saturday, July 19th. Event server opens at 12:30pm EDT. Match starts at 1:00pm EDT. How Long: 4 hours max, ends at 5:00pm EDT or earlier if someone wins before then. Who can play: This event is open to all What: This UHC event will be a free for all, last man standing. The game will be mostly vanilla (no SafeBuckets, fire spread on, mob griefing on, you can create portals etc), with the end disabled and a shrinking world border. The map is 2000x2000 to start off, with the border periodically shrinking to a final size of 200x200 Players who get close to the border will suffer blindness and slowness effects until they move away. Players who cross the border are teleported back. If you are outside the new border you will be moved inside, sometimes violently, resulting in damage taken. Health will not regenerate naturally, you must either craft a golden apple or create a regeneration or instant health potion. Golden apples and glistering melons recipes are tweaked requiring ingots instead of nuggets. Your in game achievements will also be broadcast as you achieve them, thus giving everyone an indication of how far along you are! When the event server opens up, you will have 30 minutes to "/join" the match. Once the start time comes around, anyone not registered will be set to "Spectator Mode". Spectators will be completely invisible to the participants. Prize: A shrine in the survival rev 26 spawn!

    I will be using SportBukkit which has custom modifications that specifically make it so any vanished people do not interfere with arrows or pearls. Vanished players will also not be tracked by mobs and will be able to view contents of chests, but not be able to make permanent changes.

    Perhaps once 1.8 is released and there is a bukkit release available we can use the new feature. But that is possibly months away so for now we will be sticking with 1.7. You won't be able to see other players perspectives, but you will be able to fly around following them, teleport to different players and events (a fight or death etc), access their inventory and chests.

    I'm planning on it being 4 hours long. Meaning that the world border will shrink down far enough, like to 100x100 by that time so it will effectively force everyone to battle. Though I may make it weighted more towards the end of the event since logging out at the 3:40 mark makes a much bigger difference than logging out 0:30 in

    What I'm actually thinking of doing, just to make it as inclusive as possible and minimize logistics with organizing teams and players is to just have everyone able to join the server 30 minutes prior to kickoff and team up (max 3 players per team). Teams will then be evenly dispersed around the map when its about to start. To combat people logging off and waiting until the last minute to rejoin, i think I'm going to have a timer that counts your offline time, once it gets to 15 minutes it starts taking 1 hp away every minute and since you don't regain health that is a pretty big deterrent. I think the end will also be disabled (no point in going there unless you want to hide, which i feel is lame lol) but the nether will be open with a fortress so you can get potion ingredients to regain health that way. My biggest challenge so far has been what to do with the people who die early, or anyone else for that matter. I've finally gotten a setup that should allow truly invisibly spectators. The normal way of vanishing isn't complete, you essentially still interact with arrows and mobs can track you etc. This setup should remove all those so anyone can fly around the map and watch the entire event!

  20. So, I want to start actually advertising and a few players are very vocal about us advertising as well. The problem though with using our existing donation setup is that we just don't have fast/easy access to that money. So what I would like to do is setup nerd.nu/donate so you can select "General Fund" or "Advertising" and, unless someone else wants to accept the funds, it would come to me and I would use it only for the advertising. Let me know what y'all think or if you know of a better way.

  23. Unless someone else on staff wants to take up responsibility, it falls on me. I feel my almost 2 years as staff/admin have proven that I am here for the long haul, and not looking to steal anyones money.
