  1. Hello everyone! The wonderful C admin SirTacoface and the tadmin slide have helped to set up a design contest. TL;DR Imgur album available HERE. (But at least check the rules!) BACKGROUND: I have built a monopoly board on P at about 0,-500, along the north road from spawn. The purpose of the board is to have a playable mural of P history and community. Once it is complete, it will also be a fully functional and playable monopoly board (horses highly recommended). Players will be the game pieces. Monopoly money will be provided, "dice" will be available, and cards for chance and community chest will also be there. It should be a lot of fun once it's ready. However, all of the properties on that board are currently blank. There are 22 properties in all. This contest is to determine the designs for all 22 properties on that board. It will be built and decided upon by players of mcpublic/nerd.nu. Once the contest ends, I will be working on getting those designs placed on the board and will announce when it is ready for people to play monopoly. CONTEST RULES: The rules are pretty straightforward. Each property is 9x10 and designs can be any theme related to P. You could design a property to reflect a city, a build, a player, an inside-joke, whatever you like. It just must be related to P. However, you must stick to the standard server rules, such as no NSFW builds, no racism or homophobia, etc. While a normal property piece on a monopoly board is flat, you do not need to worry about that with this board. You also do not need to add the color bars (such as blue for Park Place). They will be the flat area next to your piece so people playing the monopoly board can run by if they like. You should also design one where the materials can be reasonably acquired on P, or it may not be completed. A lot of beacons and skulls would be awesome, but almost impossible to complete when there's so many properties. Captive mobs in your design may also be difficult (but possible in some cases), so keep that in mind. You do not need to be a regular p.nerd.nu player to enter. Anyone is welcome to design while the contest is open and vote once the contest closes. HOW TO ENTER: Log onto C.nerd.nu and use the command "/mvtp contest-monopoly". It will warp you to the contest area, where there are a bunch of 10x10 plots. Please remember to make your design 9x10 instead of 10x10. Use "/plotme" to get a plot and build away! You will only get one plot. Please use the closest available plots to the rules board so that people browsing the designs will see your build. Please also add a sign with your name and the name of your build. For example, if you decide to do a design based on the Unity spaceship, you might title it "Unity". This will help players remember your design when it comes to vote. Finish your design before 3/23! HOW TO VOTE: The contest will close on Monday, 3/23. You will no longer be able to claim or modify a plot on that date. We will then have 1 week of voting, which will end on Monday, 3/30. Voting will be done by poll on this forum. I will take screenshots of each design and link them with the options. If possible, we will keep the warp active so people can browse the builds in person, but I will need to check with the admins on that. The plan is for each person to have 5 total votes to allocate as they please. I will do my best to set that up in a way that prevents any funny business and allows you all to pick your favorites without issue. If the poll mechanism on the forum does not work for that purpose, we will do old fashion replies and I will hand count them. WARNING: While there are 22 properties available, only one property of any theme will be included on the board. This means that if two Unity properties win enough votes, only the design with the most votes will be placed on the actual board. Be sure to check other plots to see what themes they are doing before you decide on yours. There is a very real possibility of splitting votes! Keep that in mind when you design! Feel free to ask questions or raise suggestions. If there are any problems, we may modify the rules and we will do our best to let people know of those changes. You can also message or /mail me in game. Have fun!
  2. I had an idea that we could just allow TNT to blow up in a region. Like you would make a region and then allow TNT to be blown up in that area. This would be a nice system because it would prevent abuse of TNT, as mods would be able to discern whether or not it's a safe location for the TNT to go off. Leave comments/suggestions below
  3. Only way I know is to break through the nether roof? Do we have a plan for how to deal with that?
  4. Hey guys, with the start of the new Rev the rush for land is as crazy as ever. However I think there seems to be some sort of misunderstanding on what warrants protections. Over the last week I have seen many modreqs for town protections where the town simply consists of roads going all of the place to claim land and a few buildings in one spot. I often deny these requests as I do not see those as fit for protections, but then the player(s) just go to a different mod and have them protect it. To me this is not ok and causes a problem. I don't have a problem with mods viewing things differently and all of us having our own opinions but when it comes to protections we need to be clear on what we protect. Not just have users go mod to mod until someone protects there land. From my understanding, we only protect actual builds and not empty land. The problem occurs when towns surround chunks of land with roads and then ask for them to be protected. In my mind that is basically land claiming. You are building nothing in between the land and simply building roads to grab the land. Another common one I see is people building small temporary farms and then want them to be protected simply so that chunk of land can't be built on. I would be happy to provide examples of this from this rev if asked. The entire purpose of protections is to prevent griefing and not grab land. Can we please come to some sort of conclusion on what qualifies this? It has often been "it is up to mod discretion" yet I see lots of empty land in between the roads being protected simply because players keep asking different mods.
  5. In the 1.8 info thread on reddit it was said villagers would farm. None of the villagers in solace farm, none will accept thrown crops. Are the villagers nerfed/bugged/something? I submitted a modreq but haven't heard anything such as "it's a bug" or "we're looking into it". Would like some info as the farm mechanic is integral to breeding villagers.
  6. It's that time of the Rev again for the Whiteoak End of Rev Event where we get absolutely destroyed! This Thursday at 6PM PST (8PM EST - Time Converter) we will be hosting our Nightoak Event! For those that don't know, Nightoak is an Event we at Whiteoak host at then end of every PvE Rev where we fight endless swarms of Doppelgangers and Withers. For the Event we so far have over 400 Doppelgangers and are gladly taking donations of diamonds so that we can get even more dopples! If you would like to donate please contact SwitchViewz, Ghrey303, or SirLyle. More information about how to get there and about the arena can be found inside this Imgur Album. I hope to see everyone there and hope that your all ready to get absolutely and utterly destroyed!
  7. So as you can see below I had to scrap my good iron golem farm due to how hoppers calculate on Spigot. That being said I am working on a 27 village Iron Farm and currently have the middle "tower" completed and is operational as you can see in the picture above. However, I am doing this 95% on my own and am in desperate need of materials... Mainly Glass, Stone Brick, Dirt, and Wood. If you would like to donate I would greatly appreciate it. I have setup donation Chests at the "entrance" to Darklight at -1275 -1500. The best way to get there is using the Ambrosia Nether Portal and then by heading west on the road until you get to Darklight. Thanks to all of those that help out in advance. Currently the Grinder is not setup for public access but will be once I get a few of the other towers done. Sincerely, Blockbuster I have tested multiple different 1.8 Iron Grinder options against the current server constraints and have determined which Iron Grinder I would like to build next revision for my town and the server. It outputs around 1200-1400 iron/hr. The build itself isn't actually that big, but it is a little resource intensive. For those of you that are interested in helping I will be setting up donation chests at COORDS TBD LATER with signs stating how much of each item is still needed. The basic "barebone" item list is listed below meaning this is exactly what i need to make it operational, but not pleasing to the eye: Cobblestone - 4802 ~ 76 Stacks Redstone - 3176 ~ 50 Stacks Wood Logs - 2695 ~ 43 Stacks Iron - 908 ~ 15 Stacks Nether Quartz - 776 ~ 13 Stacks Sand - 591 ~ 10 Stacks Slimeball - 142 ~ 3 Stacks Glowstone - 61 ~ 1 Stack String - 18 ~ 1 Stack The nether quartz is definitely going to be the slowest thing to obtain even though it is plumped and in the overworld. Thank you in advance to anyone that donates and I hope everyone has fun on this upcoming rev LIST OF SUPPORTERS BlockbusterUPDATE #3 - 2/18 1:26 PM EST So I have successfully created the build on single player and also on a local spigot 1.8 server, still am unsure if it will work on PvE with there specific settings though. UPDATE #2 - 2/13 10:42 AM EST So i have been reading through the comments in regard to the difficulties people have been having with replicating this build. A majority of the issues are caused by stupidity, but some have to do with server settings and spigot. I am going to try and talk to a tech admin and see if he can run the world save i have against the pve server build that way I can make sure it will work on the server otherwise i am going to have to scrap the project and look into doing a different one. UPDATE #1 - 2/13 10:39 AM EST If you plan on helping donate materials let me know so i can add you to a list on here and make sure to add your name to the lobby of the build.
  8. Spawn is mostly complete, but we figured it would be nice to let some mods help out. Since most of us are slightly mediocre with interiors, we figured some help was required, so now is your opportunity to add your mark to spawn! The theme is an abandoned coastal pirate village. Mainly what needs to be done; Buildings filled and furnished according to their purpose (Which will be marked at their entrance.) Ruinifying spawn. Not too much, but it needs a "worn down" feel Spawn is pretty dark, so maybe some lighting solutions to fit the theme The boat is entirely off limits for editing, but you can look at it. Spawn is blocked off by a close world border, so no exploring. Remember this isn't meant to give you a leg up on the competition! If you would like to help out, post here so I can add you to the whitelist. The server is on 1.8, so you'll need the corresponding client in order to connect. Using [redacted], one of us should be able to /mode you once you join. And remember, anything here, or at spawn is strictly confidential, and shouldn't be shared with anyone else. Added peoples: Switchviewz, Socarch26, StatelyFandango, Wondrland, Silversunet01, pez252, nealsmith
  9. So with the rev nearing an end(SoonTM), and with several recent threads bringing up the concept of player retention on PvE, I figured I'd make a post. Please keep in mind that this does not reflect the official PAdmins' opinions as a whole, though we'll certainly pay attention to any ideas/thoughts presented. I also recognize some of these ideas could potentially be controversial, so please keep an open mind. So with that out of the way, is long term player retention over the rev something that should be looked into, and how are ways that we could possibly go about that? Or are people fine with the general status quo of huge spike at the start that then balances out to 40-60ish 'regulars'? It's no surprise that many players join for the initial rush of land, which then teeters off once infrastructure is quickly built up due to minecraft's horribly simple progression system. Would using artificial means(plugins/map design) to slow down this progression(such as is done on servers like CivCraft for example) be something that would encourage people to stick around more? This begs the question of how vanilla we wish to be. There has also been some thought towards random custom dungeons being spread out to give players incentive to explore, as well as providing challenge beyond minecraft's simple concept of PvE. Another concept brought up here and here was that players don't have things to do as the rev goes on. Would players be fine with for example admin endorsed community projects that give players something to do, or other means the PAdmins could provide more longterm stimulus other than an event like a 5k/holiday event/ect? Or would that take away from the spirit of the server in that everything outside of spawn is 100% player run? Lastly, there's the hot topic of rev ends, and whether they should be longer/shorter, or given specific dates of ending. That also ties into player retention as revs and maps can become stale for many, which is something to look out for. However on the other side of the coin making revs too short prevents the massive infrastructure and town buildup that makes our server so great. This has been discussed many times in the past, and I'm not sure if there really is a right or wrong answer, but it can certainly bear discussing.
  10. Hi there everyone! First of all, I wanted to thank everyone for their congratulations and such. I can't wait to work with everyone, staff and members alike, to help bring great things to all our servers. Next, I have had a few people ask me and other admins questions regarding my new position. To answer the first question I've been asked: yes, I do have quite a few ideas for different events for each of the servers and can't wait to set them in motion. Some time this week I hope to meet with all the server admins to discuss ideas and time frames so we can start things as soon as possible. In addition to the new events I will be running, I will also be hosting the moderator run arenas on Survival, speed builds on Creative, and (hopefully/possibly) that lovely game of Spleef on PvE. In regards to the Event server, what I hope to do is host three to four major events on it a year. The Head Admins and I are already discussing getting a donation event set up, so be looking out for that! All the other events will be hosted on our current servers: Survival, PvE, and Creative. I also want to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to the community to bring any ideas they have for possible events. My idea with this is not to take over any ideas the members of our community have but work along side you to make it happen. This way we can work together as a team to make our servers as great as possible. If you have any ideas, please don't hesitate to PM me here on the forums. Another way to reach me is IRC; if I am working at the office then just message LRO|Office instead of LadyRavenOwl. All of you are also more than welcomed to message me via Steam, my username is LadyRavenOwl. Speaking of Steam, another thing that I will start directing is Steam Events! I am looking forward to extending our community and having fun outside our virtual legos. If you have any ideas for that, hit me up and we can talk about it!
  11. Hello everyone, We need to have a donation drive sometime soon, so I figured I would start a thread about planning it. The goal of the drive will be to provide funding for the servers for another year, and according to Deaygo we would need $4500 to do that. Here are a few things that we need to discuss before moving forward. What type of event should we have? When should we have the drive? How can we get the word out about the drive? I would like to ask everyone to comment asap so we can get this thing moving.

    PvE Map Poll

Greetings nerd.nu! As you may have noticed now, we are well past three months into the PvE rev, and it’s about time to look forward to the next one - somewhat.* Specifically, we are looking for feedback on a good PvE map - what biomes there should be, what features should be on it, how big it should be, questions like that. So with that being said, here’s a poll with some of these questions and more - and if there’s anything you’d like to mention that’s not in the poll questions, comment down below. Our goal is to build an interesting and enjoyable map, and the results of this poll will definitely influence how the map is created. *Padmins retain official word regarding the end of the rev and such announcements will be posted visibly; any comments to the contrary are pure speculation and should be taken with grains of salt.
  13. In light of the recent events, mostly regarding the position TheAcademician has decided to take. It got me thinking, especially since people have been longing for a change, why don't we implement Server Tech Admins? It's clear that players would like their server admins to spend a little more time in-game, and being a more solid part of the community, but when it comes down to it, things need to get done. While the server admins are busy resolving player disputes and organising events, talking with players, etc, the server techs can be busy working on new plugins or fixing bugs, whatever it is techs do when it comes to doing things for a specific server. Doing so would make it easier for each server to run on it's own, because it would let those in charge focus on what needs to be done that way the Nerd tech admins can work on bigger things that apply to all the servers, for example, Nerd techs can work on optimising the newest version of KitchenSink, meanwhile the Creative techs work on the latest version of WorldEdit. One of the things that we recently discussed was the desire for more active admins, and I believe that this would definitely help that problem. The players that do dedicate a lot of their time to moderating and being a part of the server can be the server admins meanwhile working in tandem with the ones in the background that want to help out by giving us more fun things to work with. Of course doing so would be a big undertaking and not one that would happen overnight, but I am certain that implementing it would help nerd take a step in the right direction. -Magnyus
  14. One idea I thought of was to start something new for server admins, an inauguration post. Basically when a player gets elevated to an admin position, the new server admin would prepare a post (short or lengthy) about what expectations the community should have for them, what some of their plans are as admin, they're past on the server, etc. I think if server admins did this it would show more publicly their care for the server they'll be admin of, and possibly assist in keeping the community content. Also in the process, this should alleviate some of the tension between the player community and staff by keeping everyone connected through direct communication. Thoughts?
  15. Tomorrow, December 16th, Event will be opening for the Winter Holiday maze! Enjoy snow filled adventures with murderous snowballs and killer snow golems, mazes of awesome, parkour, and more! In the center of the maze you will find a Christmas Tree. slide23 wrote an awesome plug in that allows the community to help decorate it! You can place any one block; place carefully though because you won't be able to break it after! I've included a list of different heads for you all to use in case you don't want to use your own. :D There is also a scavenger hunt on this Event round! I've hidden 26 heads around the map with easy-signs to hit for points (you must hit the sign for credit). Those who find all the heads will be credited flair and possible forum tags. Many thanks to everyone who helped make this Event possible and dealing with my controlling anal retentive...... awesomeness. A special thanks to the following: Mrgauthier34, without him half the things on Event wouldn't have been constructed. He's a true trooper and has probably dealt with my controlling shenanigans more than anyone on here (besides meebs slide23). He's been a bau5 at getting things done in a timely fashion as well. cab417 and rtr69, also badasses. Thank you so much for helping myself and MrG out. You've been awesome and great to work with. JudgeDread, beautiful build as always. Denevien and redwall_hp, you two are awesome. The plugins you two wrote for this are amazing and you're not even tech admins. :D smiler100 and slide23, both of you are equally awesome. The adjustments and plugins that were written to make this Event even better are so awesome and Event wouldn't be nearly as amazing without them. SirTacoface, thank you for building a brilliant parkour course for everyone to enjoy and adding a new depth to the map. :D xkittypuppetx, the Christmas Tree that you built for the center of the maze is wonderful and I greatly appreciate your work on it. It looks great and I really enjoyed working with you on Event. SwitchViewz, though you occasionally freak me out, (:P), a lovely spawn as usual. Thank you for making the time with school and your life to make it for me. Also a special thanks to my two speed build arena winners, Segadude20000 and ultrahub. You guys are great. :D
  16. Hello everyone, long time lurker ultrahub here with an idea that has been rattling around my head for some time now. Based on recent discussions that have come up, I feel now would be an appropriate time to put my idea out. The Idea I would like to see some sort of battle server for organized pvp and possibly minigames, I'm thinking hunger games, capture the flag, team deathmatch, and other game modes. This server would run separate to the others, so no major changes would be needed for any existing server. The idea is to have a server that everyone else on the other servers can hop to and from at their leisure to participate in the games. Maybe have some sort of command that let's you queue for the next round of something while building or hunting down your enemies. Then, once it's time you are transported to the battle server for a quick battle, and once it's done you are taken back to a lobby. From there you can go into another game or take a portal back to the server you were previously on. Why I Think It Will Help I believe that we can solve a few of our issues with a server like this, namely bringing in new players. Admitably I think Nerd is falling behind a little when it comes to some other servers I have played on, however no other server has the same attitude and community feel. I think by having a more direct pvp environment, it will attract a lot of "tourists" if you will, then those people would be more inclined to explore the other servers once they had their fun on the battle server. This will undoubtedly draw a lot of pvpers, and many may stick around on S. The reason I think this is simple, people want action immediately. Not everyone wants to start from scratch when it comes to a survival pvp server, as most servers offer a "starter kit". However people will be more inclined to stay and explore our existing servers if they have a direct way of getting to some action. I also think this would be a great compromise for the rest of our servers as well, as I know many people who like to pvp but don't want to play on S, myself included. I feel this may be the closest we can get to pleasing new and old players alike, without drastically chainging our existing servers. End Comments I don't know how possible this would be, and I don't know jack about plugins or the inner workings of the server hardware, but I really do believe this would be a great help to our servers. I know we pride ourselves on being as close to vanilla minecraft as we can, but I think we can't fall too far behind other servers. I'm not saying we should change our ways, but adding in something new as a separate entity to spice things up in addition to our current setup may be just what we need. We could even take this a step farther and have community made maps for our games, I would be more than willing to make a few if needed. I think our community could make a battle server like this stand out from the rest with our... "charm"... or whatever you would call it. Thanks for reading my wall of text, would love to hear constructive comments and suggestions, ultrahub out.
  17. This is just a quick reminder to add notes if you guys warn someone for something. There have been a few instances of someone being warned for something, but no note is made which is not good. Adding notes helps us document rule breaking and allows us to see when we need to take further actions.
  18. Holiday Greetings! This weekend I will be hosting two speed builds with three rounds each on the Event Server! You can enter up to one round in both sections, meaning you can do both Gingerbread Houses and Snow Forts. Gingerbread House Speed Build Arena by Contest Winner: Segadude20000 The Gingerbread House Speed Build will start promptly Saturday, December 6th at 6p CST. Not in this time zone? Calculate your time here! Watch out though! This is first come, first serve! Rules of Engagement Three rounds of 15 minutes each Your final result must resemble a gingerbread house You may request flowing lava and water from a moderator, just ask via /modreq or World Chat! :D General speed building rules apply Three winners from each round will be selected, resulting in nine winners total. These nine winners will be displayed in the Gumdrop Forest during the Christmas Event! :D Snow Fort Speed Build Arena by Contest Winner: ultrahub This Speed Build will start promptly Sunday, December 7th at 2p CST. Calculate your time here for this event. Due to more limited spaces during this speed build, I will take reservations via forum mail, server mail, or if you can catch me on a server (Survival is a good bet) via PM! Precedence will be given to those who signed up over walk-ins. Rules of Engagement Three rounds of 30 minutes each Build a badass snowfort (being able to enter the snow fort will give brownie points!) You may request flowing lava and water from a moderator, just ask via /modreq or World Chat! :D General speed building rules apply One winner from each round will be selected, resulting in three winners total. These winners will be displayed on the Christmas Event in the Snowball Fight Area, so keep that in mind for your design! In the event of a tie for the winner during judging, the two participants will enter a build off between each other with less time given. >:D Haven't done a speed build competition and want to know more about it before getting snowy? Check out LetsBFehr's post here! Please note: NSFW builds and/or NSFW signs will not be tolerated. All server rules apply to this contest and the Event server. If you interfere with the builders in any way (including, but not limited to, blocking them or altering their build) you will be given ONE warning kick. If this persists then you will be banned from ALL servers for the duration of the Speed Build. Please be respectful of the builders and the event.
  19. PvE Suggestions To follow in the footsteps of S and C, PvE will also be maintaining a suggestions page here. We encourage you to send your suggestions there and vote on what you see! Though we cannot feasibly accommodate all suggestions, we do actively notice any new suggestions for P that are brought up, and with this page we can also gauge demand for specific requests. Please bring all your suggestions for P there, though you may also get in touch with us over the subreddit, the forums, email (admins@nerd.nu - note all admins will see your email), and in-game if you have something you'd like to bring to our attention specifically. PvE Changelog We will also be maintaining a changelog for the server, and we will endeavor to note any changes that impact gameplay in this log. Bigger updates will also have a corresponding subreddit post linked in the log. As with the other changelogs, though anyone may post to this thread, the Padmins reserve the right to remove posts from view when the next log entry is posted, mainly to keep the log uncluttered as it lengthens.
  20. Hello everyone, here's what I have for the new alt banning policy. Alt Account Banning Policy - A minimum of 2 weeks will be added to the original ban length for every account used to evade a ban on any of our servers. Any accounts used to evade a ban will be banned for the same amount of time as the original banned account. Admins reserve the right to add additional time depending on the circumstances, and only appealed bans will be lifted. We decided to give everyone a week to comment and make any changes to the policy before implementing it. However, since there is a holiday this week I decided to not count that day as part of the week, so please comment below if you have anything you would like to add or change by December 1st.
  21. Hello all! I am issuing a contest to build two speed build arenas for the Event server. The deadline for this contest is Monday evening, November 24th. If you are interested in having your build entered, please build in single player and provide your schematic/world for download (DropBox is a viable form, as well as GoogleDrive, etc). The build criteria is as follows: Snowfort Build Arena: 6 (no more than 8) 50 x 50 plots Stands Christmas/Winter Theme Gingerbread House Build** Arena: 10 20 x 20 plots Stands Christmas/Winter Theme Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favour! **Realized that I should clarify that. It's to build Gingerbread houses, not made from Gingerbread. :D
  22. The staff meeting has been set to this Thursday, November 6th at 8p CST/9p EST. I will post the meeting agenda on Wednesday, November 5th for all staff members to see. Please note that if it is not on the agenda, then it will not be discussed. This is to prevent blindsiding and personal arguments. If you have something you want discussed and added to the agenda, please message me on IRC or on the forums. If for some reason you cannot make this meeting, there will be a recording and notes posted. I will have the notes posted by the following day and the recording I will have up as soon as possible. If you're interested in recording the meeting, please message me. If enough people cannot make this meeting, then I will schedule a secondary meeting to discuss the same topics at another time. Please be on time, as I intend to start the meeting promptly at 8p CST/9p EST. :D
  23. The fourth portal is open again tonight at 12a CDT giving you access to the Event Server!! Enjoy the multi-level maze of spawn before wandering out into the 451 x 451 maze. There are two exits that will lead you to different attractions on the edges, this includes the Pumpkin Patch which is showcasing our Championship Speed Build Winners, a hot Nether area with a portal to more exciting things, the orchard, and much much more! Beware though! The dark forest has PvP enabled so make a dash for your life against your best friend! While I'm at this I would like to take this moment to give special thanks to the staff members and players helping me make this possible: Spawn: SwitchViewz, MonroeZabaleta, Rokku117, Pinko_Eric, SirLyle Mrgauthier34: The list of all the different things he's done is far too long to write out but without him this event couldn't have been possible. Creative Speed Build Arena: unce Mumberthrax: Different Plug-in Ideas, Region Help, The Spider Spawners You All Will Hate :D Everything Technical and Training Me to Use World Edit plus Lots of Building: slide23 TheAcademician: Plug-ins of SO MUCH AWESOME and Other Technical Things Writing a Plug-in For Aesthetic Purposes, the Barn, the Rivers, and other building: JudgeDread Diamond_Lover123: The Beautiful Pixel Art Above The Maze Redstone: TheRandomnatrix, Israphels, Aypop General Testing: All server admins You guys really have been fabulous and I really appreciate all your hard work. Thank you all so so much!! EDIT~!! Those who complete the maze will get subreddit flair after the Event! Make sure you hit the sign at the end to celebrate!
