  1. About three months ago, a general meeting was held on Mumble during which several topics brought up by the community were discussed. In an effort by the staff to continue keeping our channels of communication open to you guys, we'd like to begin planning another meeting. These meetings are led by staff and can be attended by anyone with access to Mumble, our voice chat service. A recording of the meeting will also be provided afterward. The goal of this meeting will be to keep players up-to-date, share plans and ideas for the future of this community, and answer questions. In order to structure an organized meeting, though, we need a collection of topics with which to create an agenda. That's where you come in - please use this form to submit your ideas on what topics should be covered in the meeting. The suggestion form will close on Wednesday, January 14, and an announcement containing the meeting time and agenda will be posted by Sunday, January 18. We will do our best to accommodate your suggestions, but if yours is not covered in the meeting, keep in mind that the floor will be open to questions during the latter part of the meeting.
  2. Apologies, I'll take the blame for this - this was a proposed change that ended up getting implemented without much discussion. Note that in your profile settings, under the "Comments and Visitors" section, there is a checkbox to "Show last 5 visitors on my profile". This feature has been re-enabled - again, sorry for the confusion.

Are you creating this with an image editing program? I can try to create another mockup with LaTeX; that might reduce the file size and standardize the format a little.

This is something I've been wanting to see for a while, but never took the initiative to start - it's a great bridge between the staff and community. I think it's awesome you're doing this, and I'd be happy to lend any support to the project that you need.
  5. Thank you for your response, and I apologize for the delay. You've been unbanned - enjoy.
  6. spencak, You were actually banned for chat spam. Since it's been over two years since your ban, though, I'm willing to unban you. Just take a look through our rules and reply here once you've done so stating that you've read and agree to abide by them, and I'll go ahead and remove your ban.
  7. While I'm not particularly opposed to resetting the ban length after each evasion, I'm a little worried about using an exponential model like this. The problem is that they don't appreciably increase the ban length for relatively short bans, but in particular when a player evades using several accounts, the ban length can become unwieldy and hardly separable from a permanent ban. For example, consider a scenario in which a player gets themselves banned for a day. If they evade at some point during their ban, then one more day is added to their ban length. I find this a little too lenient; if people are going to continue breaking our rules even after they've been banned, it seems like we'd be letting them off the hook. This model also brings up the question of how we would deal with bans for which a ban period wasn't announced; if a player is just told to read the rules and reply to be unbanned and we discover afterward that they've logged in with an alt account, how would their unban date be altered? Assuming I've interpreted your proposal correctly, I think the exponential model also grows too quickly after subsequent evasions. In the case that a player gets banned for a month, they're looking at over two and a half years for 5 evasions, or upwards of 21 years for 8 - and this is under the assumption that they evaded on all of their accounts at the same time, immediately after the ban. That seems pretty permanent to me in the scope of a Minecraft ban, and I think most people can agree it's possible for anyone to mature over a long enough time span. Give players a window of opportunity, and they're much more likely to strive toward it. As a side note, I'm going to see if we can get a finalized policy on this agreed upon and published sooner rather than later.
  8. I already spoke with jchance about this, but I'm in favor of allowing access to WorldEdit for players, if we can get some system in place that limits and logs its edits.
  9. Apparently "Show 'Edit by' line" is unchecked by default for admins, so it's pretty easy to miss. I don't view the existence of this feature as a big deal by any means, but I wouldn't miss it if it were removed.
  10. Rev 25's carto is available here; as far as I'm aware, it's up to date. It would be nice if all of the maps could be moved to the same parent directory, though, instead of having them split between http://nerd.nu/maps/ and http://redditpublic.com/carto/.
  11. thelifelessone, Upon review of the situation, we have decided to unban you from the servers. Apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.
  12. When our new policy does get put into effect, I believe we should require the owners of accounts banned for evasion whose main account was already unbanned to submit a new appeal in order to have their alts unbanned. I don't think it would be fair of us to apply one set of rules to accounts unbanned after this is implemented and apply a different, stricter policy to those unbanned beforehand. Keep in mind that this change isn't happening because people are demanding it; it's occurring because we've decided that the new policy is more fair.
  13. Apologies for not holding more of the speedbuilding contests, but I'd like to emphasize jchance's point that events don't need to be hosted by the admins. I've been busy lately and haven't been able to host too many speedbuilding contests, but that shouldn't stop people from having fun. If you'd like to host an event, then by all means, do so; admins aren't the only ones who can plan them. The staff will more than likely be willing to support you if you ask for it. I posted some of my thoughts on the topic here a while ago.
  14. Let me make myself more clear. Go to the rules page at http://nerd.nu/rules and copy the rule that you broke from there. Then paste that rule into your response here so I know that you understand. Once you've done that, I will unban you.
  15. I welcome discussion on how having only upvotes compares to having neither upvotes nor downvotes, but I also ask that we wait a while to see how the new system works out. If it becomes clear after a time that having only upvotes aren't benefiting discussion, then sure, we can revisit the decision, but for now, I think it's worth it to try out the option that the plurality of the community voted for. For those complaining that the most recent poll wasn't "official": No, it wasn't. It was a player-generated poll intended to gauge the community's thoughts on how the upvote/downvote system should be altered. The admins didn't treat the poll as a decisive result, but rather as a strong indication of which option the community favored; and since we felt a change would need to be made soon, it made sense to consider the results of the latest poll in coming to a decision. If you believe the poll didn't do its job of quantifying which option the community preferred based on the fact that it wasn't run by a staff member: I agree that it's not a bad idea for the staff to take a more active role in getting the community's opinions on matters, but I think it would be both redundant and inappropriate for us to clone an existing poll on the premise that, since it wasn't posted by a staff member, it couldn't be trusted.
  16. Apologies, I may have confused you by accidentally placing the link over the wrong word. Read the rules here, then reply on this thread stating that you have read and agreed to the rules and quoting the specific rule you broke.
  17. Please reply with the information I asked you to provide:
  18. Downvotes have been disabled due to them ultimately having a negative impact on forum discussion. This decision was made as a result of two public polls: one with inconclusive results, and another more recent poll favoring the removal of downvotes. Instead of downvoting: If a post breaks our server rules, you can click the "Report" button at the bottom of the post. If a post does not contribute to discussion and is deconstructive/trollish, you can also report it. If you disagree with a post, you can either post a reply explaining why you disagree, or upvote a response that supports your beliefs. Thank you all for providing your feedback on the topic. We hope this change will improve the quality of discussion on the forums.
  19. Sir_Walmsley, You have been unbanned. Please make sure you have familiarized yourself with our rules before playing again.
  20. Sir_Walmsley, Thank you for appealing. I want to let you know that I have seen this, and I will hopefully be able to respond by tomorrow.
  21. Please reply with the additional information I asked you to include:
  22. Davinator333, You were banned for griefing on the Creative server. Since it's been almost a year since you were banned, I'm willing to unban you if you reply here stating that you have read and agree to our rules, in addition to quoting the specific rule that you broke.
