  1. Could temporarily lock the next hopper in line when an item enters to give the hopper below a brief moment to drain it if applicable. Would slow down the sorter, but it'd work. Really hoping that the Spigot update is implimented, though...

  3. Conflicts aside, with it looking like it will literally be larger than a lot of complete towns, he could have put it somewhere that wasn't right next to a developing one. But yea, now that it's there, you should talk to him and see if you can build underneath it, if it's going to be built in the sky. He might also to condense it vertically a little, giving more room underneath. Depends on what it is.
  4. I like how this is going, for the most part~ Heh...I used to be empathetic toward absolutely everyone, but now I'm more on the spectrum of thick-skinned. That doesn't affect too much how I behave in conversation, but I still think that listing off any specific situations that the staff decide an absolute stance toward would be helpful, while keeping the rules just open enough to cover other bases; each specific example makes it that much clearer what the intent of a rule is, and eliminates another loophole that people may try to skirt. It'd also act as a guide for newer, lower ranked or future staff. I do understand that there's a high liklihood of people not reading it, but that was the reason for suggesting 2 sets of rules; a short set that gives the general feeling, and a long set that gets into the details for those who are in need of those details. (I'm sure there're people won't even read the short set, but oh well.)

  6. You quoted J's post to me xD Anyway, yea, that's why I was hoping the rewritten rules would be more about specific cases. So many interpretations currently, so many blanks to fill, and so many things that have to be ignored to keep from going overboard.

Can't say I agree with the word not being allowed, but if you agree with eachother that the word shouldn't be used under any circumstances, then I'd say just block it outright like all-caps messages and skip the drama. It'd be possible to change the filter to only work on "gay ", " gay", "gay.", ect to avoid filtering names and the like, wouldn't it? (Again, I don't agree with the decision, but...if that's how it is, let's just get it over with.)
  8. I mostly like the proposition for the long version of the rules. Fits with that idea we discussed about covering the bases on behalf of people who don't have/don't display common sense, or those that try to skirt the rules just because they can. Gives people a better idea of what they should avoid, and staff a clearer picture of what's permissible, what isn't, and what the intent of the ruleset is. The only change I'd suggest is using more common words. I think words like pejorative might be beyond some people's understanding, and would slightly defeat the purpose of making the rules more clear and straightforward. Enforcement's a bit of a seperate matter.

  10. Ooh...if I read that right, we'll be able to modify parts of the NBT tags? Looking forward to it a lot more if that's the case :D I don't know about allowing this specifically on PvE, but Creative might benefit from use of the invisibility tag. The floating items bring out a few extra uses.
  11. Briefly addressing children being homophobic and whatnot, that's just how kids are these days. Regularly rode a schoolbus with my brother not too many years ago, also listened a few times while he played some version of CoD on multiplayer...and it was just amazing how they talked. It's a difference in parents raising their kids rather than the culture of the world; I don't think I've ever even heard my brother say 'crap', but the kids on that bus used worse language than I ever had. I was about a decade older than them, even at that time. Rather than homophobia, it's a general lack of taught decency, with homophobic slurrs being an additional weapon. Just thought that was an interesting topic. Back to the issue at hand...yea, it's basically fine how things are now. As far as children seeing things, screw the children, there's an age/parental advisory agreement to even play this game. Treatment of the word should only go by what's decided to not inflame tensions, rather than a desire not to expose people to life. If they have internet access, it'll happen eventually. While I wouldn't want to see a blanket policy here either (this is one of few good servers that doesn't overly control its population), if staff at some point agree that the word shouldn't be allowed under any circumstances, then it should be filtered out like CAPS messages to get it over with, rather than having to manually kick and warn every time. I still think it's a bad idea, but yea, just avoid the trouble if it ever gets to that point. On this specific instance (I think 'kicked for being homosexual' was a seperate case from Aypop's), if Slide asked people to stop, then they should have regardless of the rules, and taken it to pms/to clanchat/to other staff/to here to discuss when he did. Sounds like trouble was being asked for when they went on with it. Sexuality is similar to politics/religion; fundamentally there's nothing wrong with discussing the topics, but they're prone to turning into complete shitstorms on the turn of a dime. But as far as what to do about it? They could show a little more discretion when taking action against the word, sure, but that applies to any rule. As it stands, it is a difficult issue, and a single staff member shouldn't be pressured into making the decision one way or another mid-game; easy enough for people to drop it and take the discussion elsewhere/make it private, like a political discussion that looks to the current staff member like it's about to burst, rather than pushing the envelope on something that puts people in an uncomfortable position due to a blurry line between ok and not ok.

It's been described by some staff as being against the rules when the context its used in is negative...just hard to say what's negative and what's not since people have different opinions, I guess. The comment looks simple enough, you were stating something that was pretty much already said, but then there's the possibility of people seeing it as negative just because the word gets so much flak. Thoughts on this subject plz.
  13. Would it be possible to set this up with powertools? If it's possible for names of items to be checked, treat armor stands with the name "Armed", "Small", and "Small Armed" as special cases. Upon attempted placement, deny placement, consume item, create specified stand type at targeted block facing player. Then, a person could just rename the stand and place whatever version they want. Relies on having a way for powertools to check item names though.

  15. Well, there's another one that skips hoppers even when loaded, but rather than going into chests they just go through the line without being sucked in by the filter. Also caused by Spigot. Hoping they do something about that too.

  17. Depends on if you can lock in part of the command and have the player only define the arm placement. Still need a way of checking for a stand, though. I think editing the preexisting stand in the world would be less likely to be accidentally abusable. I think. Identify block one block to the north of the player (or general cardinal direction player is facing depending on difficulty), if non-armorstand return error if armorstand check for relevant NBT, if present replace if not add.
  18. The biggest problem I see as a cause of this 'toxic' thing is the way that people make their arguments, suggestions, rebuttals, or whatever the post of the time may be. Rather than countering ideas and giving alternatives, or simply stating a difference of opinions and trying to back up why that difference exists, many discussions on subjects of actual substance quickly devolve into personal attacks, sometimes with the original post. A difference in ideas leads to insults on a person's level of intelligence and a lack of legitimacy. This isn't limited to 'toxic' players from what I've seen; more often than not, that seems like a lable used by both sides of an argument to delegitimize the other perticipant. I try to point that sort of thing out if I see it while hoping for a tone change, and expect people to do the same to me if I become guilty of it in a discussion, because such patterns don't benefit anyone. I get the arguments for freedom of speech and having thicker skin and playing around and whatnot, but slinging insults makes it much less likely for the opinions and examples that the person persents to be taken seriously. It makes valid discussions ignorable. People should learn to take criticism and take a joke, yes, but I don't think personal insults or group-shaming are welcome in any way. We had this discussion with the shaming of towns getting too rampant in the past, albeit it was to a lesser extent than the issues discribed here. If I'm available at the time, I'll get on the Mumble thing. You've been warned ;D

People who build in the prestine area surrounding my/the current town's builds which makes me want to be a person who claims giant swaths of land without building in them. Something more legitimate, when a few hundred people get on and mining blocks becomes a strategy game based around how long after breaking a block to keep the button pressed, which blocks to aim at based on predicting which ones are actually broken vs ones that look broken but aren't broken yet server-side, and luck. It's interesting, sure, but it's also a little annoying.

  21. Yea, I'd like allowing it as an optional region flag, while being disallowed in the primary world region. It'd be preferable if, upon entering a region that doesn't allow TNT, the entity would immediately be deleted. I forget if that's how it works or not. There might be an option for it. Or, I might be thinking of Towny. I'd still seperately disable explosion block damage globally and allow it only in the specified regions, for extra safety. I'm more excited for the player damage aspect. I have a long-term project where TNT would be useful if it's allowed to damage players, but not blocks.
