  1. Requesting an update on this. Thanksgiving time is in roughly 1 week and there is little progress done as far as I know. I worry we'll not be able to make the suggested deadline for the drive unless we begin now.
  2. I feel all we need to do is make it (culturally) acceptable for those desiring the mod position to send a PM to either a head admin or server admin outlining why they want to be/should be a mod, which is what we already do with players wanting to suggest someone else. We can then bring their name up in the suggestion thread as we already do, possibly alongside a quoting of their reasons. If they are received negatively by general consensus, a head admin, or an admin of the server that that player frequents, can then send them a PM outlining some of the concerns presented for why they were turned down. I don't see why there needs to be any more paperwork involved than that.
  3. Certainly an interesting idea. nerd.nu is actually pretty weird compared to most popular minecraft servers in that we don't use a lobby system.
  4. Also willing to help set up, making floating islands with WE is always fun for me. I played a lot of minigames servers near the end of last rev. This sounds sort of like Annihilation on the shotbow.net servers, for those interested in further inspiration.
  5. If I remember correctly, the term "Carebear" was used initially as a pejorative by those who favored S, and many PvE players embraced that term. Many players tend to associate themselves with one server because it requires significant investments of time, and it oftentimes leads to players specializing in that particular area. Also, most of the suggested "hate" that I've noticed has been, as previously suggested, circlejerk between the community and not actual conflict. I also saw that post. I believe it received so much negative criticism in such a short time that the author removed it.
  6. We were just talking about this in Mumble yesterday....Witchcraft I tells ya! Thanks though. I can already think of a few uses for this.
  7. I liked 3 and New Vegas, but they were almost completely different games from the originals in terms of style and narrative imo
  8. The early Command and Conquers, Mass Effect(2 in particular), I loved the first 2 Fallouts, Super Smash Bros, and Star Wars Battlefront, just to name a few.
  9. I really appreciate this move. This is a huge step towards transparency and letting the community feel like they have a say in things.
  10. Voting has now begun. Please pick your favorite set of server icons. The contest has been approved by the admins now, so we're going with it. With 1.7 out, we can now represent the servers via an icon on the server listing. Rather than letting the staff make it, we've decided to let the community come up with their own. Post the icons on this thread in order to submit them. The guidelines for the the submissions are as follows: You must submit 5 icons, one of each: PvE, Survival, Creative, Event, and Chaos mode. The icon must be in PNG format sized at 64*64 pixels. This is due to Mojang's specifications for the image. imgur links are preferred While we seek unique icons for each server, submission sets with a cohesive look are preferable. Voting may be changed for well liked submissions that particularly reflect a specific server. The icons must comply with server rules(must be SFW; no racism, sexism, or homophobia) Particularly low quality/effort submissions will be ignored at our discretion. An example of a low effort submission: http://i.imgur.com/vYSXWyn.png The deadline for the submissions is 2 weeks, ending at 11:59 PM EST on Saturday, November 10. This post will be edited shortly after to include a poll, and voting will continue for another week. Good luck!
  11. Dang. Your artistic skills rival my own. I'll have to try extra hard now.
  12. Well this is a convenient post, as I was reluctant to propose my idea through a separate thread. This could perhaps go along with whatever ingame event we eventually decide on. I was inspired by a joke going around on Mumble about doing a drunken karaoke night. While I don't encourage alcohol consumption for the event, I think it could be fun if players who donate could request songs for willing staff members to sing on Mumble. I distinctly recall karaoke being done during the holidays last December for fun, and it attracted a rather sizable crowd of people. I feel that if we go along with this idea, it would see a good turnout, considering how players would already be on mumble for the event. It would also provide incentive to donate aside from just being nice, while at the same time reminding the community that the mods and admins are people too since we'd be doing it for a good cause.
  13. While we're still in 1.6, and I have no rush to see that change for a while, I was reading the recently released official changelog for 1.7 found here: https://mojang.com/2013/10/minecraft-1-7-the-update-that-changed-the-world/ I noted that in 1.7: Servers can now put a 64×64 image called “server-icon.png” in their folder, that you will see on your server list. I think this would be a great opportunity to get the community involved in something everyone can see when they log in. The competition could be either separate for each server, or one overarching design for all 3. We could then narrow down the entries to a voting poll on the forums to see which one is liked the most. I'd like to see what the staff and the community have to say about this idea.
  14. My advice: live in a swamp and always carry a looting sword with you, which is what I do currently for slimeballs. Failing that, you can always barter for some in the #trade channel.
  15. It was brought up ingame under what is currently modreq #1283 on PvE: "Could you tell me how many oak wood and oak leaves make up my tree?" There have been cases in the past where we have allowed players to ask what their total edits are for a particular block(barring ore edits), but there are also those who feel logblock should be a tool use solely for tracking grief. I'd like to see a discussion and ultimate decision on what should and shouldn't be allowed so that we may reference it in future instances.
  16. You were banned for killing all of the sheep in the Rose City farms. For starters, alcohol consumption is not a valid excuse. You're responsible for your account. And considering your track record you should be well aware of the rules by now. You're banned for 2 weeks. Please reply on the 20th stating the rules you have broken to be unbanned.
  17. If beds are going to be implemented I feel like we'd need to make a rule stating that players cannot break the beds of other players to reset their spawn(regardless of whether or not they replace the bed afterwards). Could also implement LWC on beds if that's a possibility to prevent that.
  18. I feel like between free melons at spawn and UMC's effort to make large public farms surrounding spawn will negate the issue that new players will starve. There are also plenty of people on PvE who enjoy helping new players get started on the server.
  19. That's totally fine. The hubs are intended to allow towns to connect to them via normal rails if you don't want to learn CARBON.
  20. As can be pretty easily guessed, I plan to build a CARBON network next rev in my quest to create an organized, easily accessible rail network for everyone. My goal this rev is to make it as easy as possible for towns to link into the network, where they can access a wide variety of destinations and further explore the map and all that the community has to offer. How to get involved: I'm going to need as much help as possible for this server-wide project. If you're interested in helping out or showing support from your town, contact me via ingame mail, on Reddit, the forums, or in this post. Even something as trivial as a donation of a stack of iron at the start of the rev can go a long way if even a few people do it. If you have rail plans of your own, feel free to mention them. CARBON Hubs: I'm going to be building several CARBON hubs located across the map, particularly at the cardinals. These stations will allow towns to connect to them via normal rail lines, without having to rely on a specific town and ensuring the process be as neutral as possible. These stations will be located at cardinals of roughly 800 out from spawn There will also be a station located at spawn run by UMC, which is planned to be CARBON compatible. Connecting in and the number of destinations: IDs will be limited mainly to towns and "significant builds". However, there is no limit to the number of towns that can build rails going into hubs, so I encourage anyone and everyone to build rails going in to them. The number of ID numbers is planned to be 32, but the units will be built in such a way that there will be support for 64 if need be. The Network: It's going to be a bidirectional loop at about 600 blocks out from spawn. Additional smart lines will be built later on connecting to the UMC station. But there's an added twist: I am going to try making the lines above ground. The redstone will be covered up with dirt/sand to make it less ugly. My goal with this is to bring back those above ground rails we've come to miss while retaining all the function of a rail network. The Nether: I plan to do what I can in the nether alongside UMC in a timely manner to get nether rails(carbon) up and running. Please do me a favor and make your portal as accessible as possible so I can get to work on it ASAP and avoid repeating the issues I faced rev 11. The rails in the nether will be covered in either glass or slabs to reduce collisions with the pigmen populace. If there is a particular aesthetic design you want to bring up, I'm open to suggestions. Overall, I'm hoping to make this the best rail network yet, and I wish you all luck in the coming revision. Also, forgive the horrible formatting. Tried to highlight as many important pieces of info as possible :P
  21. Most of this discussion seems to be heated speculation on what certain staff did or said, what their motives were, or what kind of person they are. It's great that some of you feel so strongly about this, but I don't feel in the long run that it's productive to discuss. In order to properly address the issues people are facing, I want to see a clear consensus on the exact problems we need to work out and focus on before even attempting to move forward. Otherwise it's just going to be a bunch of misguided bickering and drama. I don't care if it sounds blatantly obvious to you or anyone else what the exact problems are. I have yet to see an agreement on the problem at hand and want to see that done. I fully agree and expect everyone involved to be civil about it. We've had enough drama in recent times. Now it's time to move on from that. So what exactly is the elephant in the room: Are people unhappy that they feel out of the loop? How can we as staff better keep people informed and keep the community involved and feeling they have a say in things and help remove this conceived "us vs them" mentality? Is the community simply angry at the actions of a few staff members and not the entirety of it? How do we plan to work it out with those individuals and prevent incidents like this from happening again? Can we even prevent incidents like this? If it can't be prevented or addressed entirely is there really a reason for getting the community involved? Discuss.
  22. Mob grief would be disabled in this case. Yeah I'm not sure what the situation is on the Attributes system, but potion effects are implemented as mob compatible already, as well as the possibility of giving mobs better gear.
  23. As far as hard mode goes, there were also some ideas thrown around here: https://nerd.nu/forum/index.php?/topic/395-raising-p-difficulty/?p=2824 Particularly in regards to making mobs stronger the further from spawn they are.
  24. Requesting an update on this, as my inquiry still hasn't been answered.
