  1. According to the internet, I'd be tempted to say you won. Though, I know those things are not water proof...
  2. Pretty sure anyone can delete their PM convos, and it is removed from the other person's inbox. Why does it matter?
  3. If you showed me where this^ was, then there would be no need for discussion.
  4. That is my point, if you do it as an event, it does stick around until you hit ok. If you do it as an announcement, it comes and goes the same as it does when someone boots a game. That's all I'm trying to say, I'm ok with the one that flashes and is gone, but no need to have to click ok for every single one. Edit: Guess I didn't read your statement right, I was at work on my phone when I posted this.
  5. I flipped through the options, but I didn't notice an option to disable event notifications. Where would this option be?
  6. But, if this becomes as popular as people hope, it will be notifications all the time. We have people around the world playing games, and many different games at that. So you'll be getting notifications for TF2, garry's mod, civ 5, borderlands, etc. I don't want to have to choose to either remove myself from the group, or live with a barrage of notifications for games I care nothing about.
  7. I strongly urge against making events in steam, because it makes a window pop up on everyone in the group's screen. If I'm busy and working on something, I don't want a notification that I have to stop and click ok to clear away. If you do it as announcements, a notification appears at the bottom and goes away.
  8. If that is your intent, an email sent to outage@nerd.nu would be much more effective.
  9. "nerd.nu homepage no longer refers to pve players as carebears" Yeah, I had that changed. Still not a fan of the bot in IRC referring to S players as something like "little shits", but I had no control over that.
  10. I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is partially my fault. It was around this time that I became a PAdmin, and we were looking at options to help with the terrible lag. I do believe this is due to the moblimiter stuff. After a certain number of mobs in a chunk, no more will naturally spawn (this goes for anything). Thinks like cows/chickens/pigs can be bred past that limit, but will be culled on chunk unload. Since there is no way to "breed" zombies/skeletons/creepers, they are limited to the chunk limit. The problem I see in this is that many of the darkroom designs I've seen has dark spots with water to push them when they step of the spawn pad. This is a very slow way of getting them to the player, thus you hit the cap before many get built up. The best way to maximize a darkroom grinder would be to prevent any mobs from being in the chunk (including underground). I don't really think there is a way to revive dark room grinders to their previous glory without bringing back the game crippling lag of the old days.
  11. This would be the hardest part. From experience, the hardest part of a new rev is making the map. I spent a fair bit of time on the PvE Rev 10 terrain, but still didn't put as much effort as thrawn21 and Wickedcoolsteve put into some of their maps. It could end up being too much for admins to custom make maps to fit the "season" feel.
  12. Can we get a poll going on what type of hat?
  13. I assume this thread is because your last one was closed. Cyotie gave a reason that the thread was being closed. There had been multiple threads like it, and unless the Heads put a stop to it, it would never end. No matter which way it went, people from the losing side would complain about the outcome. The Heads did not want the discussion to continue there, because while it continues, players will complain that nothing is coming of it, and that they are being ignored. A decision was made, and people need to live with it for some time before bringing it up again. As much as these are community based servers, they are not community ran servers. The staff works to do what is best for the servers as a whole, using the thoughts of the community as a source of information. The community very rarely comes to a unanimous decision on anything, so staff has to pick a side and stick with it. Also, you say Heads can even go as far as removing someone's comment if they notify them why, I don't see how them closing the thread is any different (assuming they give the reasons, as Cyotie did). I think closing threads of topics that have run their course is much better than removing anything someone says (assuming it is within the rules).
  14. And then there would be threads like this titled "Why are posts being deleted"

  16. Ex- Head Admin here, hope that works for you. As crock said: This is the reason they are not made public. Many times, there are 20-30 names that are brought up via nerd.nu/applyformod and other sources. Once a name is brought up, any staff that knows the player can give their opinion on them. The reason there is so long between rounds of new mods is that it gives staff a chance to keep an eye on some of the nominated players. Some staff will go up and actually speak with them, while some just observe them from a distance. I know many times I would just watch from a distance, because some people act different if you're directly interacting with them than if they are just chatting with their friends. You can see the way they answer questions in chat, and their general attitude towards things. Some issues with players are not even well known among all staff, so someone may post some chat logs of an incident or something. Staff is not in the business of making every fault a player has done public. It is discussed enough for each staff member to make an informed decision. Ninja Edit: Figured I'd throw this in too. When the "final list" is made public in the staff voting thread, it isn't too late for someone to be removed. If you ever see a player on the vote thread that you have an issue or concern with, feel free to PM any of the Head Admins. Most of them don't bite, just Cyotie.
